Thanks for all your thougths about MIL. I know she is only trying to help but I just feel smothered at times.
I think I have packed about 3 of each vests and sleepsuits. Going on the theory if I need anymore DP can bring them in.

Princesspowersparkle · 11/07/2007 18:57

Following on from Myfairones Question- what about nappies? How many of them have you put in? Its blooming difficult this hospital bag lark. Myfairone got me thinking about my bag so I have 'reviewed' it and now need to get a bigger bag!!

On another subject- is anyone planning or has had in the past a water birth? What did you wear?

x

twoplusone · 11/07/2007 19:57

It is the EHIC card that she has not the E111 thank you all.. I just forget that they have changed the name She still doees need insurance I phoned the EHIC, I asked them how I could get insurance for her, explained the situation, but they cant help!! Going to speak to mam again.

My breast pump arrived today, (got my aunty to send hers over instead of buying a new one..) I figured I know where it has come from and once sterilised, does it really matter she has used it.

Having to explain to dd about Leukemia, as one of her close friends from school has just been diagnosed. She is 10yrs old). The school have explained things to the children, and I am trying to be truthful with her. Luckily it sounds like they have caught it early but she is still going back to the uk for chemo.. bless her. I hate to think what her parents are going through.

Sorry I m full of news today..
Promise I will try and be more cheery..

Caroline1852 · 11/07/2007 20:08

You know when pregnant dogs move round and round in circles, rucking up their beds (muttering something grumpy and unreasonable in dog language)? Well that is me. I have turned into a pregnant labrador. DP has gone off to bath DD, I am sure he is wondering why he now shares his home with a labrador bitch.

Twoplusone - Don't you have an army family helpline for that sort of thing. It seems ridiculous that they do not help you on such matters, it must be very frustrating reaching dead ends all the time and not getting sensible answers.

OP posts:
Catz · 11/07/2007 20:20

On the vest/sleepsuit question - my hosp gave out a list of things to pack that said 6 of each! This seems a bit excessive but being a dutiful 1st timer I have done as I was told. My bag is absolutely huge once you've got those in, a pack of nappies, couple of packs of maternity towels, towel for bath, dressing gown etc. Worried I'll look as if I'm going on holiday when I drag my huge bag in!

Caroline1852 · 11/07/2007 20:25

Put pack of nappies in car (just a few in the bag) ditto the maternity towels, ditto 3 out of the 6 vesties and babygrows. Presumably your DH?DP will be coming to see you every day (in the car!) and he can just bring you what you need. Perhaps leave a few loose carrier bags with all these items in the car for unabashed ferrying in hospital corridors. Ditto anything else which you feel you might need but not sure.

Miaou · 11/07/2007 20:32

pps I had a waterbirth with ds (can't have one this time, different hospital, no pool ). I went in naked, felt awfully embarrassed leaving my nightie on the bed and walking across to the pool, but once in I was so glad I hadn't worn anything as it was so hot and clothing would have just got in the way!

Baby's head has descended further today - owwwww! Tis very sore to walk, though I think I am getting used to it as it doesn't hurt as much now as it did earlier on today. Loads of BH contractions, some taking my breath away. Dh is convinced I'm going to give birth before the weekend but I'm not being drawn down that route - I'm due in 10 days so technically speaking it could be another 20 days before the birth

Bodkin · 11/07/2007 21:01

Calling KYTE! Are you there somewhere? I remembered you posting about a chime you wear around your neck, and MrsMcJnr was asking about something similar... is it part of your priest gear , or something you bought for the baby?

All well here, we are thinking of calling her Isla, middle name tbc.

Princesspowersparkle · 11/07/2007 21:01

Thanks Miaou. I'm pretty shy so was thinking of at least a vest top but pretty sure I'll be as nature intended by the end (providing I do get the pool as there is only 1....).

Gosh I'm so thick. Didn't think of leaving a packet of nappies in the car. What a muppet brain I am!!!

@ my DH. Really want to go and see the new Harry Potter film on Friday but because I'm due a week on Friday he won't let me. I think he thinks I'll go into labour in the cinema. So blooming what????? I'm fed up, uncomfy and only Harry Potter will be able to make me feel better! (Well that and the baby coming but I can't see that happening yet.) Hurumph.

lynnec · 11/07/2007 21:05

Not been around for a few weeks, and theres been so many lo born
Congratulations to all!!

im not due for another 2 weeks, but this evening i have quite bad period type pain in the lower area of my back...its there constantly....not coming and going...seems to be back and stomache....is this just bh or what?????This is the first time ive had it for so long...going to take a nice bath and see how i get on with that. x

bilblio · 11/07/2007 21:19

Congratulations Bodkin! I think you're husband is right on the "If Carlsberg did labour..."

Just a thought, with all these 2 paracetamol births... If I take 2 paracetamol now what's the chance of it starting my labour? I'm fed up now too.

Typhoonsmum - lots of sympathy, I had to put up with people at work doing everything for me for 8 months. It drove me mad. I'd probably just not tell her about your plans and hope she starts getting on with her life a bit more, but like other people say, she's probably that used to looking after others that it's become second nature.

Twoplusone - sorry no advice, banks and insurance drive me mad. Hope you get some answers soon.

Sleepsuits and nappies, I have a full pack of nappies, 2 sleepsuits, 4 vests. Hopefully that'll be enough.

We had a near miss with the camera yesterday. I'd put it on to charge, I wouldn't have checked it except that the cats were being daft so I decided to take a picture of them, and the camera died. It helps when charging cameras to check they're plugged in.

Having a really really achey day today, not helped by the fact that my parents came up and I decided to help them do the gardening. I can barely walk now my stomach is so sore, but at least the garden looks good again. Mum is thrilled that my nesting instinct made me chop down the honeysuckle. She's been wanting to do it for 2 years and I wouldn't let her.

keiralou · 11/07/2007 21:33

Sorry I've not been around for a while. Every time I catch up on all your news I feel too exhausted to post mine!! Big congratulations to all the new mums - some very inspirational birth stories!!!

LynneC - keep us informed of any further devlopments on the twinges and pain!!

My LO was back to back 2 weeks ago. Have spent ime on all 4's, had reflexology, sitting forward etc all in a desparate bid to move it. Went back to MW last week and LO had moved to the left. This week, it had moved again - this time to the right - aaarggghhh!! Why won't it move and stop in the middle???? Cannot go through the same labour experience I had when DD was born back to back!!

Otherwise am feeling fine. Get twinges, lots of movement and all the rest, but don't feel like LO will be born yet. And I bloody well hope it isn't - we are having major re-building works done on our house. It is full of dust, dirt, workmen and teabgas splattered across the kitchen worktop. The MW suggested I scrub the kitchen floor - er I really don't think so as it is too minging!!! MW also suggested I could have a sweep on Monday - 2 days before LO is due. DH said we are not ready for baby to be born yet, so has told me to stall it. DD was almost 2 weeks late and he is banking on LO also being late. Really need to clean the house, am desparate to truly 'nest', but see little point. HELP!!!!

Phew - feel exhausted now. Think I need to go and eat cholcolate!!

Gosh lots of signs today then. Are you still there Catz and PrincessPS or have things moved on I wonder-eeek!

Typhoonsmum: MIL sounds very lost poor lass, but I can imagine it does make you feel guilty. Try and encourage SIL as another outlet for her maybe.

Myfairone- I hope you are feeling a little better now.

2+1- What a nightmare with the insurance, last thing you need hey.Is there not a bank ombudsman that you can threaten them with if they don't come up with the goods? ((((hug))))
Any news on your tightenings?. I will ask about meptid-I hadn't heard of that one.

Tigsy-hope your pelvis has recovered-mines still groaning under the weight!

Chooster- well done on the lack of epidural.

Keiralou- me too with the OP, what happened 1st time around?

I am really listening to my hypnotherapy tapes again which is helping me to relax a lot as I had a panic last night. I don't suppose anyone else has had a hypnobirth before have they?

Princesspowersparkle · 12/07/2007 01:26

Chrissybobs- nope, I'm still here. Felt fine by mid afternoon. Grrr! Glad to see I'm not the only one still up. Had begun to panic as had actually managed to sleep at night for the last 2 nights. Back to no sleep now though! You having trouble too?
Have MW tomorrow (well today really) so hopefully she'll tell me things are progressing which is something I need to hear now!

Wish I'd heard of hypnobirthing earlier but was too late really by the time I did. I think it would help me. Going to try and spend some time each day concentrating on the baby and doing visulisation etc in the vague hope it helps me to cope better with contractions!!

Caroline1852 · 12/07/2007 01:44

Grr, up doing my night patrol.

Princesspowersparkle · 12/07/2007 01:48

Not much fun hey Caroline? I'm sitting here reading my book, eating a swizzle lolly (don't ask) with mumsnet on the laptop which I am checking occassionally to see if there is anyone to talk to!
I think we might just finish this thread off!
