Ooooh hello everyone. My midwife came out to see me yesterday to go through all the paperwork that is generated by me moving areas. She is lovely, so professional. We also discovered that my previous midwife had written the wrong blood group down on my notes ! That was the final straw and dh and I are considering making a formal complaint about how poor she was/is.

Today I went up to the local hospital to meet the consultant, who unfortunately has decided that I need to have a GTT (), which I am having done tomorrow (due to the amount of sugar in my urine). I am sure it will come back clear, and he seemed to think it was precautionary, but I didn't really feel like arguing with him about it! I'm glad it's tomorrow though; then I don't have time to get worked up about it.

To all you cramp sufferers - oh sympathy coming your way! I always feel like I am about one small stretch away from agonising cramp - horrible, isn't it? And yes - pregnancy is definitely 8 weeks too long - I'm getting tired of being pregnant now and want to do the baby bit (better get the room sorted out first though!). I got the moses basket out the other day, checked I had everything I needed ... then the cat discovered it and has been sleeping in it - I haven't the heart to turf him out as it is his sanctuary from ds who can't seem to leave him alone! But now I will have to wash all the bedding again, then hide it from the cat ... grr

MadmumNika, glad to hear all went well at the hospital!

JennsterFrogLover · 12/06/2007 21:55

JAM might you have had cramp so badly you pulled your muscle? I've heard it happen.

Jamantha · 12/06/2007 21:55

Am really fed up with this lark now. If it's not one thing it's another. In past few weeks have had worries over BP and oedema (is it PE?) and glucose (is it diabetes?) and just as they all come up negative (hoorah!) I have long lasting UTI with much pain, and tonight I speak to midwife at ante natal class about tender swelling on tummy and she thinks it's my bladder and I should go to the day assessment unit who'll probably refer me to urologist. Bah and double bah! So got to ring MW tomorrow to remind her to ring day unit to get me appointment and then take it from there.

Jamantha · 12/06/2007 21:57

Miaou - we've deliberately kept moses basket chocka full of assorted baby tat (or do I mean vital equipment?) so that cat can't amke herself cosy and get into thinking it's her bed.

JennsterFrogLover · 12/06/2007 22:00

Good luck tomorrow jamantha and Miaou

Jamantha · 12/06/2007 22:10

Thanks Jennster. Really wanted to have nice smooth last week at work tidying up "loose ends" and it's turning into madness. And really want to have something other than moans to report here too.

dewmeadow · 13/06/2007 08:03

What sort of shop do you buy sweet alond oil ir rose oil in?

I can just picture the scene - "Do you have any oilssuitable for perenium (sp?) massage please?" !!!!!!!!

Myfairone · 13/06/2007 08:20

Morning all!

Dewmeadow, I have seen those oils in Holland & Barrett so try one of those or another health food store.

I have been attempting to massage my peri-whats it but seem to be unsuccessful, not even sure if I have been doing it right! I am using Bio-oil but now feel left out that you are all going to smell like roses!

Leg cramps-arghgghghghgh....i wake up in the night just as I feel it start to tense. This morning it was 3am and I was bouncing around trying to make it go away! Brings tears to your eyes doesn't it!

I am off work at the moment and so glad of it! My last week is next week but this heat is killing me. My commute involves an hour train journey followed by a 20 minute walk and I am just not up for it this week. Hoping they wont start my maternity leave early but hey ho if they do!

HOpe you are all well and enjoying your last few weeks of pregnancy!!!!!!! bwaaaaaa! We are nearly there girls, not long now!

Big hugs

Neals Yard for oils.

Wish me luck as I'm off to day assessment in an hour. Feeling worse and very uncomfortable/moderately painful and had leak of some kind of fluid this morning on getting up ( not sure what kind of fluid though) so suspect that either UTI has got a lot worse or this is the start of it On the other hand I could just be completely paranoid But either way they've said I should go in to be checked out. So have hastily finished packing bags just in case, they'll probably stay in the car but at least I'll have some bits with me if I do need to stay in overnight for any reason.

MelissaM · 13/06/2007 09:13

Found you! We are a chatty lot.

Cyee and others - thanks for the reassurance. Was starting to feel like a bad mum already! Had major row with mum later on Monday, but seems to have cleared the air. I left list of jobs on table when I went back to bed too. when I got up she asked what really needed doing, so the first job she did was the oven, and windows while the ovencleaner was working! . Had a lovely morning with her yesterday shopping, which we haven't done for years. Have been doing the massage when I remember, but probably only every other day! I guess some is better than none. Myfairone, I've been using bio-oil too, so your not the only one not smelling of roses/almonds.

Catz - glad things are going well now and looks like you can have the birth you want. Must remember to get some raspberry leaf something, although starting to feel like this lo isn't going to be in here much longer. Feeling very low and head has been partially engaged for weeks!

Madmumnika, glad all is well. Take it easy.

Typhoonsmum, glad gtt results ok.

Abgirl - sounds like your lo is going to be here very soon. Hope all goes well.

Good luck Jamantha and Miaou. Hope all goes well today. JAM goodluck for tomorrow.

Myfairone · 13/06/2007 10:14

Jamantha - Good luck! I hope it all goes well.

Justaboutmanaging - I hope you get what you want!

Melissa - Sorry to hear about the upset with your Mum. Its not easy being pregnant is it?

Can anyone tell me why I feel miserable today!? I have no reason to be (other than the fact I'm hot, huge and uncomfortable!) I have taken the week off of work and so should be happy to just hang around doing very little but feel frustrated, irritable and a whole host of emotions I havent even put my finger on yet!!!!

Beyonceen · 13/06/2007 10:17

Hi all. Nearly there!! 8 months pregnant sounds much more respectable doesn't it? Feeling really tired all the time now. Wondered if anyone remembers when to take raspberry leaf tea? Also, i know this has been covered but how much weight should i have put on? and here's a tricky one. Does anyone know which way LO is lying just by feeling? I really can't tell and feel a bit stupid when my preg friend says " oh baby's the right way round again" How can you tell??
God, another question, sorry, haven't been on for ages, I'm getting really bad cramp in my calves in the morning. I mean scream out loud cramp. I rub and rub until it goes away but what's causing it??
So many wee things. Hope you are all resting resting. (Yeah, makes me laugh too with two toddlers)x

Beyonceen · 13/06/2007 10:19

Melissa, just saw your post re cramps! so glad I'm not alone!

Chooster · 13/06/2007 13:14

Wow, been away from here for a few days it there's a whole new thread!

Sorry to hear all those with niggles and worries - especially jamantha - you've really been through it haven't you! Fingers crossed the day centre check is OK. Your labour worries make wonder who will be first to go. Particularly as some of you are getting really close . I'm not even 35 wks yet so feel like there's ages yet.

Myfairone - Sorry you are feeling low - Its probably just frustration and being fed up with all the niggles and worries that come with being pregnant. I know my size is getting me down a bit. Just because I can't move that quickly anymore and get out of breath so easily!!! Grrrrr

Thanks girls for reminding me about the massaging - I didn't do it with DS but I'll give it a go this time... So, almond oil eh? I'll put this on my list of things to buy and do as soon as maternity leave starts next Friday

emmyb · 13/06/2007 14:40

Hi all ive not written for yonks but have been reading everyday.
Hope all is well Jam.
Well I started maternity leave on Mon. What bliss. i now have energy to go on the computer (couldn't at work anyway) and even made the tea for the last two days and planning on a fish pie tonight!!

Just been to see mw and there was a slight trace of glucose in urine. But they need two positive tests before they will do a GTT. They will retest next week but by then ill be nearlly 38 weeks anyway so i dont know if they will do anything anyway. What do they do if you are diabetic?

Ive had my bloods retaken today aswell as they wwerent conclusive but again Ive only 3 weeks left till due date anyway.

Seems like Im going to have a large babs. At my 32 week scan they estimated he was 5lb 7. Today she said he was a solid baby and I may be lucky and not go full term!!! OMG how big is this baby going to be?? DD was 8lb 6 which was just write. I was big when born and my brother and sister were well over 10lb ahhhh.

My cramps have subsided since stopping work as I was on feet most of the day. Ive also felt that lo has changed position and Im finging it easier to get in and out of bed and have got rid of all cushions now. Weird!!

Packed my bag today but need a nighty from somewhere.
Anyway its good to be back and I will be able to talk a bit more now instaed of grabbing a quick read when I can.

Hey firststar - Wondered where you were!

Well my mood improved but still felt very weird today...I think I may have been having Braxton Hicks but really not sure. I feel like my tummy goes really hard (almost like a cramp) and the skin feels really tight. Is that right? ALso baby feels like its lying really low. Just felt really under the weather today (thank god I wasnt at work!)

My Mum has been looking at me all day saying 'why dont you go and lay down'! (bless her!) but lying down is the last thing I felt like. Its bad enough not sleeping at night, let alone trying to sleep in the day!

Maternity leave starts for real next Friday! wooohoooo...cannot wait!

Big hugs to all.

pulapula · 13/06/2007 16:12

hi Firststar,

Yes, i'm no longer breech, but am having a section for other reasons, so it makes no difference really, except that it is more comfortable now the way baby is lying.

Caroline, I meant to say thanks for the advice re. preparing for section. I have already started eating more healthily, and making sure i take things easy at the end.

I have a haircut and pedicure booked for friday, and my parents are coming to collect DD early on Sat for the weekend, although DH wants to use the time to give the house a thorough clean! I said I can help with dusting, but that's all. We will hopefully have a nice meal out too.

Firststar,

Yes, it does show breech babies can turn late on- mine turned around 36.5 weeks. I assumed once space was tight, it wouldn't be possible.

I also find a short catnap helps. When DD has her lunchtime nap i can often be found snoozing on the sofa!

bilblio · 13/06/2007 17:28

Miaou - I can't believe how lax your last midwife was, I'd definitely put in a complaint.
I have the same problem with cats, we've been really careful keeping the door shut on the LO's room, but they manage to make a mad dash in there every time either of us go in. We're using a carrycot instead of a moses basket and I'm keeping it stored upsidedown inside the cot. Thankfully they've not found either yet.

MelissaM - glad you sorted everything out with your Mum, and that you''re getting your jobs done

Jamantha - Hope everything checks out okay at the hospital.

All those with cramps, my midwife told me to drink a pint of milk a day to keep them at bay. It seems to have worked, if I forget for a couple of days I get the feeling like I'm going to get cramp, but it just reminds me to drink another milkshake. Bananas are supposed to help too (potassium) but I loath bananas so I'm sticking with the milk.

I did my last sleep-in shift last night, so I've one shift on Friday and I'm Done! They did try to talk me into doing a sleep-in on Friday too as someone is sick, but they believed my excuse.

I'm tying to spend the day cleaning up in an attempt to keep my mind off the fact my Dad is going in for an angiogram (sp?) tomorrow. He needs a heart valve replacing so from the results of this test they'll decide when they're going to do it. We're hoping they'll wait until at least September rather than in the next few weeks. He's generally fit and healthy, they told him when he was 40 that he'd have to have it replaced when he was about 45-50 but if he kept fit it'd last longer, he's 65 now and it's only in the last couple of years that its started causing problems. The doctors biggest concern is that he's an extremely nervous patient, it's written all over his notes, and his worrying is more likely to trigger problems than anything else.
Anyhow, back to cleaning cupboards out.
