@Fiep I don't do Facebook! Never had an account. Thanks anyway 🙂

If anyone is interested in a great big list of baby names, you can download the data at ons.gov.uk. I've just downloaded the most recent data (2016 although 2017 should be available soon) and have a list of over 6000 boys names and 7000 girls names, in order of popularity, to trawl through! I want a name which is recognisable but not popular.

snowbrigade · 11/08/2018 10:23

Hi all,

I hope it is ok to join in! I'm 14 weeks today with due date of the 9th of February. Currently anxiously waiting for the screening results for the blood tests, scan was about a week and a half ago, NT measurement was ok. So hope no news so far is good news.

I've also started showing so obviously that people have started offering seats on the train and someone at work guessed.....Hmm This happened way earlier than I thought it would. Anyone had same happen to them?

MakeLemonade · 11/08/2018 10:49

You can also take Rennie’s deflatine which helps with bloating.

Alicejj8x · 11/08/2018 11:27

@AliceRR
Yeah they are hard boiled sweets really nice :)
Yes to the glacier mints

Celebelly · 11/08/2018 11:34

Welcome @snowbrigade! I'm also due on Feb 9th! No news def good news with scan - if there was something wrong they would have contacted you by now I think. I was told I'd get a call the same week with mine. Letter with results arrived towards the end of the following week.

AliceRR · 11/08/2018 16:31

@Alicejj8x I’ve sent DH to Morrison’s with a list and they are on it! While I wait for my Dominos order to arrive 😬🍕

twiglet · 11/08/2018 16:52

@jeanzbeanz yes the listeria risk is fully known for fruit and veg by NHS and food standards agency they just don't say not to have it when your pregnant due to the need for nutrients over risk. The last few outbreaks have been on processed fruit and veg so frozen, pre sliced etc (DH used to work for the food standards agency).

Another fascinating thing - children whose mothers drink lightly during pregnancy (1-2 glasses of wine per day during second and third trimesters) produce more intelligent children on average.

I'm not sure I'd call two glasses of wine a day for six months drinking lightly?!

Be very careful about standalone alcohol studies that claim things like that. The overwhelming belief among experts is that it's best to avoid alcohol. If you look at the research from Fetal Alcohol organisations, there's evidence in there that even small amounts of alcohol can have effects on certain aspects of a fetus's development. They don't yet know to what extent some of these manifest in childhood, but the advice is very clearly to abstain.

It's up to everyone what they are comfortable doing, but please do proper research into it and don't just accept what you read. www.nofas.org/light-drinking/ has some links to studies and information.

And a word on Expecting Better:
www.nofas.org/2013/08/16/emily_oster/

Remember, she is not a doctor or a health researcher. Some of her stuff is interesting, but the alcohol stuff in particular is pretty flawed. It's a shame as there's some good stuff in that book, but after the alcohol section I just lost all faith in it.

Placemarking....

DragonFlew · 11/08/2018 17:45

Oh girls I'm so disheartened. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and still no scan date!
I phoned the mw on Friday morning and left a message asking her to chase it for me. But she didn't pick up the message until 5pm by which point hospital scan staff had all gone home and it's closed at weekends!

We went out with some family today and a new 9 week old baby, of course all the questions started 'will you have any more kids' etc etc, of course we don't want to tell anyone un til after the scan!

I think I'm just being emotional and need to vent! How long did you have to wait for your scans? I mean from getting a date for it, was it within a week or 2 weeks or something?

Celebelly · 11/08/2018 17:51

I can't believe you haven't had a scan date yet!! I'm not surprised you're upset about it.

I'm in Scotland so I'm not sure how things differ if you're not, but I had my booking in appointment at 6+4 and got a date for my scan in the post within a week. I then got a date for my 20-week scan in the post three days after my 12-week scan. So it seems nuts to me that you are 12 weeks and still not even a date!

MakeLemonade · 11/08/2018 17:53

@DragonFlew I had my scan appointment within a week of informing my doc at about six weeks. I would start to get very stroppy about now in your shoes!

Phone first thing Monday, follow up with an email, call other parts of maternity services if you need to - you just need someone to take responsibility for getting it booked in. Be persistent, stay on hold, take names etc. It’s annoying to have to be a pain in the arse but they really shouldn’t be this slow and you don’t want to miss your window.

lanalawr · 11/08/2018 18:03

@DragonFlew That's so frustrating! It's hard to say what the timings and process would be as different areas work in different ways. For example, in my area the midwife books your 12 week scan at your booking appointment. I had a two week wait for the scan. You can see from the other messages though that it really depends on where you are. Would you be able to get a phone number for the department you'll have your scan in and contact them directly?

MrsY87 · 11/08/2018 18:08

@DragonFlew can you not call up the ultra sound department directly? We have to complete a form and send that in to make our scan appointments, the mw doesn't do it for you. I then got my appointment through about 5 days after posting the form. Have you had your booking appointment yet? I'd definitely chase it on Monday until you get an appointment, they always leave space for urgent appointments so I'm sure they'll be able to fit you in before 14w. Not the stress you need though.

Yakadee · 11/08/2018 18:23

@MrsY87 - my mw booked my scan at my booking in appointment too. That was at 7 weeks. This is so frustrating for you x

DragonFlew · 11/08/2018 18:41

I'll ring again Monday, the trouble is it's just answerphone so it wont be picked up until the evening again. And then probably forgotten about.

DragonFlew · 11/08/2018 18:43

I dont have a direct number for the ultrasound department.
I had my booking 2 weeks ago and the midwife filled out the form to send to the hospital, so I was expecting something by now!

lanalawr · 11/08/2018 18:49

Does google help with the number? Or you could try ringing the hospital switchboard maybe?

UndercoverLauren · 11/08/2018 18:57

Just had the first vom of my pregnancy 🎈🎉🎊 I'm 12 weeks so thought I'd got away with it, but today's been really exhausting, plus I accidentally had caffeine for the first time in ages, then I had a long drive.

Notquiteagandt · 11/08/2018 19:02

@DragonFlew think it varies area to area how you do it. Here you book yourself once your drs signed a referal. You get midwife and scan appointments through then.
Can you not phone your local antinatal dept and book direct?

.........

Just read through my notes from my scan properly. What percentile are you all at for suze? Im booked in for growth scans so not concerned. Just a little worried that it looks like babies really really small.

Notquiteagandt · 11/08/2018 19:03

*size

Since2016 · 11/08/2018 19:33

Depends on how they’re booked. At my hospital the 12w scan is in the antenatal clinic - so booked by them, the 20w is in radiology.

@dragonflew - I got mine at 8 weeks. 2 weeks after self referring. I’ve got my 20week scan booked in and my additional scans in September already booked - got the letters today. You need to kick up a fuss on Monday. Go through PALS as they will be able to navigate who to speak to.

MakeLemonade · 11/08/2018 19:51

Have a look on the hospital website, mine has a few different numbers and I’d phone the maternity ward if all else fails (that number will def be there) and demand a number that gets you through to a person.

What’s your health authority? If you’re happy to share it, someone might be able to help/have more numbers.

AliceRR · 11/08/2018 19:52

@DragonFlew I had date confirmed verbally on 25 July when I was 11+4 and it came in the post a couple of days later and it was for 10 August when I thought I was 12+4 but scan suggest 13+5 🙂 Booking appointment was same day.

It was annoying as I was nearly 12 weeks when I got the date and then had to wait another 2 weeks. I think it’s different everywhere but then will have to fit you in soon anyway but I felt they had fitted mine in about as late as they could have. I hope you hear something positive soon
