hello

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
justbeme · 29/05/2007 21:54

its on some leaflet theyve given me... i'll find it...

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 21:55

BCG straight away? Don't know about that. I thought it was vitamin K for blood clotting they gave them.

My answer would be no to BCG. Not straight away. IMO babies react a week or so after their imms at 8/12 weeks. They don't need it (and nor do we) at one week old. Imagine you just get some sort of feeding done and then they get out of sorts because of a jab? no no no no no no. Not for me to be honest!

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 21:56

In the UK, immunisation against TB with the BCG vaccine is offered to:

Babies living in areas of the UK where there is a high rate of TB. That is, areas where the incidence of TB is 40 cases per 100,000 people per year, or greater.
Babies whose parents or grandparents have lived in a country with a high rate of TB. That is, countries where the incidence of TB is 40 cases per 100,000 people per year, or greater.
The following groups of people who have not previously been immunised.
Immigrants to the UK from countries where TB is common.
People at risk due to their job. For example, health workers, prison staff, etc.
Close contacts of people with active TB.
People who intend to live for one month or more in countries with a high TB rate.

does any of this apply to you????

justbeme · 29/05/2007 21:57

Its to protect against TB
We all had it at secondary school didnt we?? and its the injection that leaves a little lump on your arm (ohhh my poor baby!!)

It doesnt say much more

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 21:57

No, am not a secret midwife, but her arse was sticking right out and then she stuck the boot in! She's a big girl too, I reckon. I don't remember any of the others winding me like she does! 10 pounds plus at full-term I think! Em was 9 pounds 13

justbeme · 29/05/2007 21:59

No - it doesnt apply - and your right, it would/could muck the poor little one up so soon after being born - think I'll decline then - Glad I asked you.

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:00

yup thats right here is some info

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:01

Don't think any of mine have had it actually

justbeme · 29/05/2007 22:03

Im off to have a cuppa now - and make my DP's sarnies for work - so have a good evening all!! x

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:04

N'night JBM! Glad to have helped!

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:04

it does seem strange unless there is an increased incidence of TB being reported where you live but still you need to be coughed on by someone carrying TB to actually get it - so not exactly high risk i wouldn't think - i'd definately question the reason for even offering it. hope this helps.

justbeme · 29/05/2007 22:05

Thanks all !!
Night .....

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:06

Foxy do you feel like this Lo is bigger than your last 3 - have they all gone up in birth weight so far?

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:07

you're welcome JBM - goodnight x

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:08

Yep, 8.4, 8.13, 9.6 (not 9.13 as I said earlier!)

so I'm going for 9.13 on 07.07.07! (one of my best friends is getting married in Russia that day and I'd better have a bloody good reason for not going!)

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:11

oh FAB dob - almost worth being late for!!
both my other 2 were born on the 13th of the month so i've convinced myself that it's 13/06/07 for this LO - was hoping for 13/05/07 but clearly NOT!!!!!

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:13

LOL! Am 13th myself, so a good day to be born on! Be worth waiting for. What will that be, about a week late?

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:13

i've so far has DS at 6lbs13 then DD at 7lbs9 so thinking about 8lbs4 for this one??????

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:13

do you know what you are having?

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:14

yesh just over a week, 9 days late - i'm due on mon 4th!!!! thats THIS monday FFS

hollyandalice · 29/05/2007 22:14

Bloody hell! I went to make some toast and dp jumped on the puter! Git!

My dd was 8 11, so I'm on course for this to be a whopper!

DaisysGotSausageFeet · 29/05/2007 22:15

DS was 8 lbs 3.5 ozs....will this lo be heavier? I thought boys were usually heavier then girls and was hoping for a nice wee 7.5 lber

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:15

WHOAA! That is soon! What's the percentage of babies who come on time or early?

DesperateDerlor · 29/05/2007 22:15

don't know they don't tell you here - against poilcy plus you only get one scan at 14 weeks anyway - think it's a girl though, don't know why just a feeling

foxybrown · 29/05/2007 22:16

Bad luck daisy! DD heaviest of them all! But she came out with long, long nails and was rather chubby being overcooked!
