Are the doplers worth it girls? I've heard so many people yell at the idea of getting one!

BunBunMum · 30/05/2018 20:34

@December2018 you should be ok to fly at 26 weeks. Just check your airlines policy as some want a ‘fitness to fly’ certificate from a Dr after a set number of weeks

December2018 · 30/05/2018 20:41

I would recommend... apart from getting myself all upset because I couldn't find anything it was totally worth it once I heard it and I've got a little recording on my phone that will be nice to look back on... my oh keeps listening to it thru his headphones it's really sweet to watch

December2018 · 30/05/2018 20:43

Yeah I also read that I would need to get a doctors letter... in some places they can charge upto £40.... for a piece of paper 😖

MagicalCreatures · 30/05/2018 21:25

Eeek!!!
Well my Doppler arrived today.
My sister used one throughout her pregnancy and loved it. So I was definitely going to get one.
I was apprehensive about using it so early - I’m 9+6 but....
I tried it as soon as I got home and within 3 minutes heard the beautiful sound of baby’s heartbeat. About 183 bpm.
So when DH got home, I couldn’t wait to show him and now I can’t find it. I feel so bad for him.
We did have dinner though and now I’m thinking maybe that makes it harder to find with a full heavy stomach. Who knows.
But it’s definitely worth it.
Ill have another go in a few days because I really want to record it. Wasn’t prepared the first time. Typically x

It's each to their own but there's lots of warnings about dopplers providing false reassurance which then stops a mum going in to be monitored when they should be. I've seen lots on the count the kicks campaign about avoiding them so personally won't get one. If you get one, just please make sure you get any little worry checked out rather than relying on your doppler.

Cakelaur · 31/05/2018 09:22

@balalalala yeah I've seen a lot of negative feedback. I'm just thinking about it for a bit of fun. I can't keep booking a scan every two weeks for the whole pregnancy and I'm just thinking until I can feel movement. Would be nice to be able to hear the heartbeat. I'm hoping at nearly 12 weeks I should be able to hear it. 🤞🏻

balalalala · 31/05/2018 09:47

From 16 weeks your midwife will also check during your appointments which should help you feel better!

Paranormalbouquet · 31/05/2018 09:53

Cake experienced midwives with hospital grade Dopplers often struggle to find heartbeat well into second trimester. When baby is so small and tucked away it’s very much dependent on its position and where your placenta is.

Paranormalbouquet · 31/05/2018 14:37

Had scan and bloods for harmony. Looks good. Measures 11+1. Moving a lot now. Now just have to get through cerclage tomorrow!

balalalala · 31/05/2018 15:05

That's great @paranormal when will you get the harmony results?

MrsTeaPlease · 31/05/2018 16:01

Just had our scan and measuring 12+2 so due date is 11th December. All looked well and can't believe how much little one has grown in less than 2 weeks!

Paranormalbouquet · 31/05/2018 16:07

Great picture Tea. Mine was hopping about so much was hard to get a good profile but all looked good! My big belly possibly got in the way too!

balalalala · 31/05/2018 16:49

Wow, what a great picture!

December2018 · 31/05/2018 17:31

Awww beautiful picture!!
That is very framable.... I've got mine tomorrow so nervous & happy lol

applesauce1 · 31/05/2018 17:42

Congratulations @MrsTeaPlease ! Looks totally beautiful!

We had ours today and were nearly late due to husband being stuck in traffic. I arrived on the antenatal ward in a less than composed fashion having sprinted up 4 flights of stairs and down a maze of corridors...

Baby was being very well behaved in the right position and quite still so she got the measurements easily. Then she pressed really hard and rubbed the wand hard on my tummy to get baby apple wriggling, kicking and waving. I just started welling up. It was amazing.
Measuring 12+1. Due 12th December.

Amazing pics ladies!!! Almost excited about mine on Wednesday. Although complete fear in me heart at the same time!!

Skittlelover · 31/05/2018 18:10

Congrats everyone what lovely scan pics and all very reassuring. Good luck for those going to scans this week! I'm feeling quite jealous as I'm still waiting on my date for my scan I'm 10+5 today so not very far behind. Just feels like it!!
Also anyone else get really faint all of a sudden? Had to get my hubbys young cousin round yesterday as I was by myself with my 15 month old. Was quite scary and didn't want to be incapacitated with him all alone. Any tips? Xx

Gazingers · 31/05/2018 18:23

Hi ladies! I know I’m late to your page but wondered if I might join you? Due on 31st December and feeling so sick 🙁 Could do with some pals who are going through the same! x

MrsTeaPlease · 31/05/2018 19:33

Aww lovely pic @applesauce1 think ours was asleep as was totally chilled and still! Hope that bodes well for when they are born! Grin @cakelaur I was terrified too, I think it's only natural when you are having to guess what is going on in there and can't feel anything! I can't help but thinking is that baby really in there, how can't I feel it?!xx

MrsTeaPlease · 31/05/2018 19:35

@gazingers congratulations! I'm 12+2 and and still feeling sick and apparently this baby doesn't like my guts either! So I'm with ya!

GoldilocksTheGraceless · 31/05/2018 19:41

Wow those pictures are absolutely incredible. Just showed OH and his face looked like he just realised this is really happening :)
@Gazingers I'm 10+4 today and still feeling v nauseous- you've come to the right place for support! Welcome!
@Skittlelover I had the same thing today, very dizzy all of a sudden. I guess just take your time as much as possible(!) and keep hydrated. If it gets v bad then call the doc?
