Hey. Sorry I've been quiet for a bit. Been struggling with my mental health so much so I've been referred to the mental health midwives. I'm so worried that something will go wrong my anxiety has gone into overdrive. On the plus side I have been feeling some sort of movement. I'm 16 weeks. And I got the cutest babygrow in the charity shop.

@mrsmistergav you're doing all the right things by getting a referral and looking after yourself. Wow I absolutely love the babygrow! I've only bought a sleepsuit from txmaxx to match DD's pjs, and a first Christmas babygrow for baby in the Sainsbury's sale so far. Reigning myself in til we find out the sex in a couple of weeks xx

sarahhh1984 · 11/06/2018 15:24

Not been on here properly as I was panicking about my 16-week mw appointment which was today (at 18+4!). Was worrying because I'd be asking for my referral to a consultant to discuss having an elc and I didn't think my mw would be very supportive as, first time round, she was all about home births and didn't seem keen on interventions.

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. Just got back from my appointment and she was wonderful. I brought it up towards the end and explained it was because I had such a bad time last time and the mental health repercussions were extensive - especially after being separated from DD to have surgery after I had a retained placenta.

Anyway, straight away, mw said that I wouldn't want to be putting myself through that again and she'd get my referral on the system right away. She said there's a higher chance of a retained placenta when it's happened once before and at least with an elc any risks will be calculated. So, pending an appointment with a consultant, I'll be going down the elc route.

So thrilled as I really thought I'd have to battle with my mw but she was so lovely and supportive that I got all emotional. I'm such a sap.

Also got to hear baby's heartbeat again. Was a good strong 149 and mw said she could tell baby was having a good wriggle.

20-week scan this time next week and I'll know if I'm Team Pink again or Team Blue this time!

TinyPawz · 11/06/2018 20:24

Had 16 week check up today too @ 17 weeks. All grand. Heard heartbeat for a few seconds but then flump moved.

On my way home I felt very ill and almost fainted while waiting on the bus. Had to ring my dm to meet me off the bus as I wouldn't have made it from the stop to my house. This never happened with my Dd. Not sure if because I'm older now or the heat. Frightened my Dd who was with me too. Poor wee poppet.

Hengine · 12/06/2018 13:33

That sounds a bit scary, hope you’re feeling better @Tinypawz
I’m impatiently waiting for my 16 week check, il be 18 weeks when I have it!
I’ve managed to get my whooping cough vaccine booked for the same day,
I can’t find much info about what they do at the 16 week check, I know I need to take a urine sample, what else do they do?

TinyPawz · 12/06/2018 13:55

Yep bring a sample, my doc also checked blood pressure and listened for baby heart beat.

sarahhh1984 · 12/06/2018 14:16

@TinyPawz That sounds frightening - hope you're OK now.

@Hengine My mw checked my urine sample, checked my blood pressure and listened to the baby's heartbeat with a doppler. She also gave me the form for my maternity exemption certificate (I wasn't able to get this at booking) had a general chat with me about my overall health, any concerns and sorted my referral to discuss an elc. Oh, and she went through my blood results and confirmed all was fine. Hope that helps!

Hengine · 12/06/2018 17:19

Yeah that’s great, thanks

GreenMeerkat · 12/06/2018 17:40

Hope you're okay @TinyPawz! How was your BP at your appointment? Mine is always really low during pregnancy which makes me feel very faint.

Had 20 week scan today. All healthy!

NoCatsHere · 12/06/2018 18:33

meerkat glad all was good at your scan.

All your 16 week appointments sound much better than mine from Monday. She checked my urine asked how I was but that was it! No blood pressure check and she said they don’t check for the heartbeat in case they can’t find it. Was so disappointed. She wasn’t great either - I’ve not had her before, like not very warm you know? I really wanted someone great as this will be my last pregnancy.

TinyPawz · 12/06/2018 18:33

Any scan pics @GreenMeerkat ? Did you find out the gender? Or keeping a surprise?

Bp was 120/70 so normal. I think it was because I hadn't eaten a lot. Grand today.

sarahhh1984 · 12/06/2018 19:07

Glad your scan went well @GreenMeerkat!

Sorry your 16-week appointment wasn't great @NoCatsHere. My mw gave us a choice as to whether we wanted her to listen for the heartbeat or not with the caveat that they may not find it as it's still early. We opted to go for it though as we'd already heard it when I was in hospital the other week.

MiniMinions · 12/06/2018 19:12

@mrsmistergav oh my I love that baby grow!! I managed to find a two piece "my first Christmas" in sainsburys sale rails - don't think it looks too girly (don't know what we are having yet!) so should be ok.

@sarahhh1984 so glad to hear that mw appt went well and things are moving in the direction you were hoping for. Wish I had got the maternity exemption form...I don't see her again until August! I might mention it when have first consultant appt in 2 weeks time.

@Hengine at my 16w appt as I'm blood rH- she took some more blood to see if I need the anti-d injection again this time or not.

@GreenMeerkat glad to hear all went ok at scan 😊

@TinyPawz Hope no more dizzy spells for you, I hate feeling faint.

@NoCatsHere Hope future appointments are better for you

Am counting down to next Tuesday when we have our scan and find out!! DS keeps saying brother and then sister so hope that finding out will help him get ready. Have got a definite bump but lots of squishy bloat above! Have felt the odd small movement but nothing proper yet. Maternity cover at work is all sorted now, HR keep asking for MatB form but wasn't given form this time and won't see mw until August now.

sarahhh1984 · 12/06/2018 19:19

@MiniMinions My mw said I'll get my MATB1 form at the 28 week appointment as there's no 25 week appointment the second time round. I'm wondering whether to text her to remind her nearer the time as my 28 week appointment will be at home so she'll need to bring it with her.

TinyPawz · 12/06/2018 19:24

@sarahhh1984 is 28weeks not too late to tell your employer? I thought it had to be in by 25 weeks.

sarahhh1984 · 12/06/2018 19:35

@TinyPawz I thought that but my mw seemed to think it was fine. I suspect women who need it earlier probably make arrangements to collect it between appointments. It's not really a problem for me as I'm self employed and I can send off for maternity allowance anytime from 25 weeks onwards. DH just needs a photocopy of it for his paternity leave but last time his employers were pretty relaxed about it as it was after 25 weeks when he took it in then. They just added it to his paperwork after the fact.

MeredithShepherd · 12/06/2018 20:37

I’m sure I got my MatB1 form at my scan appt last time?? I’m hoping I do again as 28 weeks is too late for it seeing as I’m hoping to finish work at 31 weeks due to DS starting school!

GreenMeerkat · 12/06/2018 20:46

Thanks all

Yes @TinyPawz we found out he was a boy at 16 week scan but confirmed today Grin

TinyPawz · 12/06/2018 23:25

@GreenMeerkat fabulous scan and yay for team blue. I'm hoping for a boy too. My family has 4 girls and only 1 boy who is 14. Would be nice for a wee chance. Time will tell. Will be delighted either way

GreenMeerkat · 13/06/2018 10:44

I got my Mat b1 form yesterday at my antenatal appointment after my scan.

Emma0902 · 14/06/2018 09:15

I didn't hear baby's heartbeat at my 16 week app neither. I am pretty sure i did last time so I was disappointed the midwife was covering for my normal midwife who'd been out all night at a home birth! The word birth got me all excited (no idea why🤣)

I'm 100% sure I've felt small movements aswell! My next midwife app isn't until 3rd Sept 😮 I was a bit shocked it was so far away, but the midwife told us we would be getting extra scans at 28,
34, 37 weeks I think it was since I got induced as my DD has stopped growing.

Emelene · 14/06/2018 13:26

I'm feeling movements too! First baby so I wasn't expecting it but it started like a "poking" feeling just after 17 weeks and now at 19.5 weeks the kicks are getting stronger and more frequent. It's so awesome! Grin

Melaniesunflower · 15/06/2018 18:53

Had 16 week appointment today, and managed to hear the heartbeat!! Baby was wriggling about and kept moving away from the probe....

MiniMinions · 16/06/2018 21:21

@Melaniesunflower glad appointment went well 😊

Been feeling a bit more movement today, counting down to 20w scan on Tuesday!!

sarahhh1984 · 17/06/2018 06:29

@Melaniesunflower, glad appointment went well! Lovely to hear baby was all wriggly!

My 20 week scan is tomorrow and I'm so excited. Besides that, I'm just waiting to hear from the hospital about an appointment with a consultant to discuss my elc.
