@Mayah good that you are starting to feel movements, can't wait for those again. But laying on your back after 16weeks isn't recommended. There is apparently an artery that can get squashed by the bump by laying on your back.

I have already got my pram and reusable nappies. Need to control myself to be fair

TinyPawz · 31/05/2018 16:13

My Dd (11 5'5") was with me shopping today and I showed her the 'tiny baby' sized clothes that she wore when she was born. The vest fit in her hand! She was amazed that she used to be so small.

MiniMinions · 31/05/2018 16:27

@TinyPawz just picked up the size 16 new look work trousers and they fit like an 18 (just with a baggy over bump bit!)so sticking with them so either give the 18 or 20 a go perhaps x

NoCatsHere · 31/05/2018 17:31

sarahhh luckily ds1 was a surprise so all early stuff is white/very unisex. It’s only really from about a year onwards I guess stuff becomes more blue and boy like!

sarahhh1984 · 31/05/2018 19:41

@NoCatsHere DD was a surprise too but unfortunately she was of the explosive nappy variety. So a lot of the really small unisex stuff didn't survive unstained. 🙈 It then got replaced with quite girly stuff - especially as it was a hot early summer after she was born so she wore a lot of little dresses.

sarahhh1984 · 01/06/2018 07:15

Woke up this morning with my chest and stomach covered in a rash. Sad DD has had either a mild case of chicken pox or a virus with a rash recently (doctor wasn't sure) so think I've caught it off her. I had chicken pox as a child so should be immune but know that's not foolproof. Going to call doctor's as soon as they open.

xXJenXx · 01/06/2018 12:07

We haven't bought anything yet...the Granny's have already made a start though and we got a lovely bag of goodies as a gift yesterday.

How many baby grows do we need in each size? I was thinking of trying to keep track of what we've got so we don't end up with too much of one thing...

We don't have a lot of storage space so would like to keep 'stuff' to a minimum.

Advice please everyone!

Just checking in after a week or so, my emails didn't tell me there were any new messages! Good to hear about the maternity clothes issues - I'm having similar! I'm 17 weeks toady, and I've been wearing a pair of size 36 maternity jeans from H&M all week and they've been great, but suddenly realised I need some smart black trousers for this weekend. I got some off ebay but as they're second hand they're very stretched and I don't think they're usable until I'm a bit further gone! So I'm going to go for my old trousers not done up, but with a black vest covering up the fastening. Luckily the people I'll be with know I'm pregnant so I can pass off any lack of smartness hopefully!

Someone asked about Tax Returns - it's my first year for doing it too, as I've just set up a company. We were recommended Free Agent which came with our bank account, and so I'm hoping that it's dead simple through that. Luckily I think I only need to do a couple of months anyway. Plus, work has made a mess up of my cycle to work scheme so that might complicate matters.... luckily I have a few accountant friends I can go to if need be.

Got the 20 week scan in 2 weeks, can't wait to find out the sex although we won't be telling anyone else!

I've ordered the yarn for my autumnal baby blanket - finally feeling well enough to consider crochet again! I got a prescription for anti sickness meds and it's helped a lot. I lost quite a bit of weight after holiday I think through a tummy bug (toilet end) but blood tests came back fine and I've put it back on now, so hopefully it was just a blip. But I really felt rough with it - headaches, tiredness, stomach cramps... Glad it's over!

Only just realised this morning that I shouldn't have used my anti-itch cream on insect bites. Who knew?!

MiniMinions · 01/06/2018 21:22

@sarahhh1984 hope nothing serious! What did doctors say?

@xXJenXx Think I bought one set of newborn short sleeve bodysuits and one set of sleepsuits and then a few sets of 0-3m of each. I figured if we needed more could send someone to supermarket for some more.

@pipsqueak126 we've also got scan in just over 2 weeks on the 19th. What colours have you gone for for the blanket? I'm thinking red, orange and yellow and just doing three rounds of each colour like one massive granny square but that's because that's all I've had a go at doing so far hehe. Any particular yarn you have gone for?

sarahhh1984 · 01/06/2018 21:33

@MiniMinions GP thought it was a virus (not chicken pox though) but wanted me to go to the Women's Hospital to be on the safe side. So spent the morning in the Emergency Room where they had to sit me in a separate room to everyone else in case rash was contagious. 🙈 Saw a lovely doctor though and confirmed it was just a virus that would probably go away on its own and posed no risk to baby. But she gave me advice on what to do if symptoms get worse. Also listened to baby's heartbeat which was first time I'd heard it. Nice strong rate of 152. Was a tiring morning but feel reassured which is good.

MiniMinions · 01/06/2018 21:41

@sarahhh1984 ah glad to hear nothing serious and I hope it calms down and disappears as quickly as it appeared. Yay for hearing babies heartbeat after all that worry as well x

TinyPawz · 01/06/2018 21:42

I should be finished the bulk of my first blanket today. Border to be decided once I know which gender. I'll post a photo later.

Shrimpi · 02/06/2018 00:30

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been posting for a while. Recently I think I have started to feel movements (at 16 weeks). Only when I am laying very still on my tummy. A faint flickering sensation low in the tummy. It does seem a bit early (it's my first pregnancy), but I've certainly been gassy before now and never had a sensation like it. Seeing midwife very soon for 17 week check. This horrible part of me keeps thinking it's gone, I'm not pregnant, I'm just crazy, there's going to be nothing on the 20 week scan. It makes me almost a little scared to "believe" in the movements. I didn't feel anxious before, not really! Maybe because I feel a bit more attached to it now. I'll feel better if MW can detect the FHR on doppler.

Pleased that things are going well for the rest of you. I wish I could knit! One thing I would say it's good to have some blankets as many hospitals I've worked in are very cold, especially on the delivery floor (ridiculously! Either that or they are boiling hot!). For some reason many parents don't bring any blanket or decent hat for their baby Hmm, even in the middle of winter. The NHS blankets are v thin and not designed with babies in mind.

sarahhh1984 · 02/06/2018 07:30

@Shrimpi When I was expecting DD I started to feel the movements you're describing at around 16 weeks so although it is early, it's not too early.

Regarding what you say about temperature on wards, it can really vary. I know Liverpool Women's is so hot that they advise you not to put a hat on baby indoors. They also only let you use their blankets for baby while you're there, although they have been designed specifically for babies. I booked on to a tour before DD was born and found that really helpful in deciding what to pack so anyone not sure I'd totally suggest seeing if your hospital offers that. It's crazy how much it can vary from hospital to hospital!

LastNightsMakeUp · 02/06/2018 12:01

Congratulations @Laurisi and @Emma0902! Can't wait to have our 20 week scan and find out for sure what team we are xx

sarahhh1984 · 02/06/2018 12:18

Congratulations @Laurisi and @Emma0902! Just had our 20 week scan confirmed for 18 June. Just need to find out if someone can mind DD as it's at 6pm. Don't want to take her with us as she'll be tired and grumpy. Otherwise will have to see if I can change it.

Mayah · 02/06/2018 12:49

@TinyPawz oh gosh, thank you for letting me know. I always thought it was a 3rd trimester thing. I don't spend too much time on my back, only if I'm lying awake in bed. But no more of that!

@Laurisi and @Emma0902 congrats on the scans! 50/50 so far, wonder how many of each there'll be in this group.

@Shrimpi I'm convinced there's nothing actually in there Grin My lower stomach is quite hard, even on an empty stomach/bowels so that's my only tell right now. Can't wait to be fat and kicked every 5 minutes to confirm it all (although, I will definitely regret saying that when it finally happens).

Kt2108 · 02/06/2018 13:02

Been stalking this post for ages but never posted! Was wondering how people approached telling work? I’m so so nervous it keeps me up at night thinking about it. ☹️

Laurisi · 02/06/2018 16:51

Thanks everyone think it feel more real now I can refer to He/ him
@Kt2108 just let your line manager etc know and they effectively start the ball rolling with everything. 😊

Melaniesunflower · 02/06/2018 18:05

Lovely to see the 20 week scans ladies, I finally get my 12 week scan at 14+3 on Monday, can't wait! I've been started to get paranoid again that I've imagined it all, or that something has gone wrong, despite the expanding waistline....

LastNightsMakeUp · 02/06/2018 18:30

Congratulations @Kt2108 with my dd I asked for a meeting with my line manager and I told him he was going to be an uncle 😂 he was so relieved as thought I was going to resign! It'll be fine. I was worried about it too and I really didn't need to be. Bite the bullet and just do it x

pipsqueak126 · 02/06/2018 18:33

@miniminions I've gone for a not-so-baby-friendly chunky yarn in acrylic and alpaca mix (by katia) as DH had already bought me some. I'm going for a v stitch pattern which I've seen work well and fast in chunky, stripes of beige interspersed with red, orange, yellow, green and brown. Then the border in whatever I've got left!

Re: back sleeping, is everyone avoiding even laying up in bed? (Like to watch TV) I have been struggling to train myself to sleep on my side and can just about stay there now with the aid of cuddling a pillow, but sitting up in bed is something I do a lot...

LastNightsMakeUp · 02/06/2018 18:43

@pipsqueak126 I'm still laying on my back (sat up) to watch tv etc. The advise relates to sleeping in the third trimester, I'm sure you're fine.
www.tommys.org/pregnancy-information/im-pregnant/pregnancy-calendar/third-trimester-weeks-29-40/sleep-position-pregnancy-qa
From my first pg I just found towards the third trimester I wasn't able to get comfortable on my back anyway, so it wasn't really an issue x
