Got my screening results back - 1/3471 for Down’s and 1/100000 for Edward’s or Patau. I’ll take that!

Great results blondie. Was that just from your nuchal or did you have the harmony test?

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/02/2018 14:10

Namechanged - how weird. I’ve also been dying for pate. Specifically duck liver. I thought maybe I could eat veggie but apparently that’s a no too. I settled for some cheese spread on crusty bread. Sad

I could also really go for some sushi. Mmm smoked salmon.

Sals27 · 23/02/2018 14:36

dingdong I havent eaten any but is smoked salmon not allowed? Shock I missed that one

kirinm · 23/02/2018 14:37

I've just realised that chorizo isn't allowed (the uncooked kind) and I've practically lived on that!

kirinm · 23/02/2018 14:41

I mean I've been eating the smoked version rather than completely raw.

Namechangedtoscream · 23/02/2018 14:44

Shellfish soft cheese pate and liver are all banned from what I know.

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/02/2018 14:54

Sals, smoked salmon is a no. Apparently it’s something to do with how it’s prepared. It’s a shame because it’s healthy and I love it!

It’s a bit over cautious really. It’s all to do with listeria, which is pretty rare in this country. There was an outbreak in the USA recently which was in soft cheese.

Namechangedtoscream · 23/02/2018 14:55

It's also vitamin A can seriously harm babies and there is a salmonella risk from some foods too

ShutTheFridgeUp · 23/02/2018 14:59

Cured meats are apparently fine if frozen for 3 or 4 days before consumption.

TheBlindspot · 23/02/2018 15:06

@Namechangedtoscream The issue with liver pate is 1) listeria risk. Fresh straight from the pack as soon as it's open the risk is extremely low and 2) it's too high in vitamin A which is high amounts is harmful to baby (pregnancy vitamins for example do not contain it).

To be honest, if you are craving it madly of you buy it fresh and have a small portion straight away the risks are tiny. I went to a Michelin starred restaurant two weeks ago and I had pate as my starter - I checked it was freshly made that day and I knew the portions were tiny, so I went for it. It was amazing.

With anything you're 'not allowed' - it's up to you to assess what the risks are and if you're happy with them. Some things - smoking, drinking etc are obviously complete no nos. Food I think you just need to apply common sense and check what the actual risks are, then make your own decision.

I ate probably a tablespoonful and was happy with that. After my DD was born I sent DD to Marks and Spencer for a French stick and a slab of pate and ate it while I was still in hospital. Yum!

LostMyBaubles · 23/02/2018 15:07

I read that too about them being ok if frozen first
Not that i eat anything like that lol

Ive been living off mainly crap but heyho ita food that's staying down!

TheBlindspot · 23/02/2018 15:07

I did not send DD to Marks and Spencer. She was a newborn. I sent DH! Grin

MonaTheMoaner · 23/02/2018 15:21

Remember my sickness went away about 8 weeks and I felt super lucky while you were all suffering? 12+1 and sick as a dog today. Nauseous and physically sick. That's my karma! Grin

Roeslein · 23/02/2018 15:39

Agree that with food it's about assessing the level of risk that you're comfortable with. I eat lunch at work, travel quite a bit for work so eat in airports etc. I don't see any way I could avoid, say, all raw vegetables (including those in sandwiches etc.), and obviously I don't how they've been washed. I also don't want to eat junk food everyday just to avoid the salad, although I do try to get soup when I can. The other day we had a lunch buffet during a meeting and everything had either deli meat or soft cheese in it - went for the soft cheese as it would have been very weird for me not to eat at all. Of course I wouldn't have any raw meat, raw / smoked fish or raw milk products, but that's just common sense. (Got food poisoning from salmon a few years ago, it wasn't fun.)

Anyway, scan went well! It was amazing seeing all the limbs etc. Didn't get a good pic though. :( Everything looking good, due date still 7-8 September! I guess I can start to feel excited now?

Came home and ordered some maternity jeans. :) This is getting real!

CuppaSarah · 23/02/2018 15:53

redrobin that's what happened with me, I'm having my bloods done on Monday at the outpatients in Bracknell urgent care clinic as well as my out of area booking in. I got my scan date before then though! They book your scan when they get your details. Your scans will be Hampshire way too I imagine, mines at Aldershot so lots of driving about! If I go over and you go early we might be in together!!

Sals27 · 23/02/2018 17:51

dingdong and all over smoked salmon loving ladies....NHS website says its fine Grin

All other*

RedRobin7 · 23/02/2018 18:13

@CuppaSarah Oh Bracknell would be much easier for me with the bloods. Did you ask to go there or did they tell you? I am rubbish at having bloods done - my blood never wants to come out so I end up feeling funny. I work in bracknell so less to travel! I hope I do get my scan date sooner - I already have dates I'm definitely not allowed off work around the 12 week mark so may need to change it!

Nixen · 23/02/2018 21:14

Hi everyone, checking in, I haven’t posted for a while as it’s been a busy few weeks at work! Hope everyone is okay?

We had our 12 week NHS scan today (12w 5d) and also got the Harmony test results at the FMC - low risk for everything thank goodness, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

We also found out today that we are having a little girl, which is very exciting!!! 💖 Makes it all seem very real!

MonaTheMoaner · 23/02/2018 21:56

@Nixen congratulations! That's fantastic news!

Has anyone found a solution for the back pain? Mine has really amped up in the last two days and it's debilitating.

Twinkletoes2018 · 23/02/2018 22:18

Just catching up on the new thread. Hope everyone's had a good day. I'm starting to feel a little better at 10+2 really looking forward to my scan on 8/3. It's lovely seeing some of your scan pictures.

TheBlindspot · 23/02/2018 22:36

@MonaTheMoaner When I was having my DD I got given a load of these cold things you stick on your back (the same company that make deep heat make them) as free samples at the baby show. I didn't use them until later on when I was bigger but they were a godsend. I can't remember what they're called I'll see if I can find a pic.

TheBlindspot · 23/02/2018 22:38

This is them. Awesome pain relief and drug free. Pregnancy safe.

Please may I join? It made me very happy to stumble across this thread!

First pregnancy, EDD 29/09/18.

I had an early dating scan a couple of weeks ago (6 weeks 6 days) and could see a strong heartbeat. I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow and now feeling very impatient waiting for the 12 week scan!
