@Hortonlovesahoo it’s a carbon monoxide test, here’s the info 😊

www.nhs.uk/start4life/carbon-monoxide

Hortonlovesahoo · 29/01/2018 19:50

oh! Thank you @Milney25. I've never heard of it.

milney25 · 29/01/2018 19:52

@peterpanwendy I don't think your anxiety it unusual!! What time is your scan? I bet you are counting down the hours!

Gem173 · 29/01/2018 19:56

I had to have a CO test, said it’s routine now just to check. Good result is between 0-3, as a non smoker I got 1, probably because of air pollution and many work friends smoke around me most days which I try to stay away from. Goodluck @peterpanwendy
Is this another early appt or your 12 week scan? Xx

E2017 · 29/01/2018 19:58

Good luck @peterpanwendy I was incredibly anxious about my scan which was this morning. By the time i got to this morning to be honest I was terrified and then relieved as soon as she said it was ok. Xx

Almostthere15 · 29/01/2018 20:02

Subo I'm so sorry to hear that. Be kind to yourself and take the time you need to grieve.

Scan this afternoon for me was great, had a hugely over full bladder and had to empty half which was as hard as it sounds. But we got a lovely view and baby was very busy in there.

Good luck to everyone having scans

LadesC · 29/01/2018 20:22

Sorry to hear your news Subo. Thinking of you both.

StrawberryLemonade · 29/01/2018 20:24

Our hospital usually charge £3 for scan pictures but you have to put change in the machine and get a token to give the sonographer. The machine was broken when I went to they were giving them free.

Tonight’s scan went well baby looks fine and she couldn’t see a reason for the bleed which is apparently a good thing. Didn’t get good pics as I forgot to drink so my bladder was empty. I feel reassured though which was the main aim.

Whichoneisit · 29/01/2018 20:38

strawberrylemonade glad you managed to get a scan and are feeling reassured.
milney that sounds very low risk to me. Is that from your nuchal scan and combined bloods or from a nifty test?
peterpanwendy completely normal to be anxious. Try and have a relaxing bath and a good sleep. Not too much longer to wait.

I had the CO test as a non smoker and blew 1. The midwife said 1-4 was normal range.

My hospital charges £3 per photo. They gave me quite a few more than I’d paid for!

somersetsinger · 29/01/2018 20:40

Subo2018, I'm so sorry to read your news. I hope you are surrounded by love and that you are able to take time to grieve your baby. Sending you all my support.

I've had to do a CO test for a previous booking appointment as well as this one. I had a high reading last time round and a midwife came to my house to check for carbon monoxide leaks. She didn't find anything and we decided it must have been environmental exposure on the journey to the appointment.

We've also always had to pay for scan photos. It's gone up to a pricey £15 in my area plus a hefty car parking charge. If possible, I'm having the baby at a relaxed rural midwife led unit with free parking!

Milney, you could ask your midwife to for more detail about your test results. I had a discussion with mine at the booking appointment. She told me the ratio for high risk was 1:150 or higher and that the average risk for my age (36) was somewhere around 1:250. My results (lower than this) felt good, given that I had this information. Hope this helps put yours in perspective too.

Congratulations to everyone who has had their 12ish week scan, thanks for sharing your photos and good luck to those with scans coming up.

milney25 · 29/01/2018 20:44

@Whichoneisit from the one at the hospital, the nuchal and combined I think that is! I've not had a harmony.

That's definitely helps @somersetsinger There's a lot of conflicting info online and I don't like to keep googling for fear of causing more anxiety. And let's be honest - none of us need that!

peterpanwendy · 29/01/2018 20:55

Thank you @milney25 not until 14:30 so I have a half day at work to get though first :(

@Gem173 it's technically my 12 week but because I ovulated so late I'm not actually 12 weeks which was picked up at the earlier private scan. I didn't get my BFP until AF was over 2 weeks late so it all makes sense but obviously I knew none of this at my booking appt so she booked me in as normal. I know it's cheeky but I heard (from the private clinic) that if this happens they have to give you another scan in the correct timeframe! I bet they change my dates again though.

Thank you @E2017 glad I am not alone in feeling like this. I am just so worried I want everything to be ok!

You're right @Whichoneisit I'm just going to have an early night, last thing I want to be is sleep deprived!

Thank you all, don't know what I'd do without this forum, I'd feel so alone!

milney25 · 29/01/2018 21:03

@peterpanwendy they should make all appointments first thing in the morning for the sake of our stress levels 😝

Whichoneisit · 29/01/2018 21:09

milney I’m not a mathematician but I think that makes your risk less than 1%? Maybe it’s better to think of it that way and I’m sure it would be even lower with a harmony so try not to worry.

CaffeineDragon · 29/01/2018 21:17

@Subo2018 I'm so, so sorry that you and your partner have to go through this. I wish you all the strength possible. xx

Kiki275 · 29/01/2018 21:57

@milney25 I have zero experience so I quote the only thing at the moment I trust to ; NHS guidelines.

The main thing that increases the chance of having a baby with Down's syndrome is the mother's age.
For example, a woman who is:
20 years of age has a 1 in 1,500 chance
30 years of age has a 1 in 800 chance
35 years of age has 1 in 270 chance
40 years of age has a 1 in 100 chance
45 years of age has a 1 in 50 or greater chance

Looking at these you have better than average odds and they make you younger... win win x

Gizzymum · 29/01/2018 22:35

@Stephiewoo I had to do a breath test thing and I've never smoked! My midwife said they do it with everyone now.

@peterpanwendy Scan pictures are £2 each where I live and we need the correct change too. I expect it would say in your scan info if you have to pay (but take some £1's just in case).
One tip I was given was that if you work for the NHS go in uniform!! I did last time and got 3 free photos.

@milney25 it's hard to say with those results but I'd guess they'd be low risk? And if you think about it, that's about a 1 in 1000 chance (or 0.1%) which for other things I'm sure you'd be happy with. If you are considering further tests I think aminocentesis has a higher chance of causing miscarriage than your baby does of having downs (based on the results you got).

StrawberryLemonade · 30/01/2018 05:44

milney I think your results are totally low risk. I can understand why you’d still be worried though- my last pregnancy I got a 1:50,000 result so anything less than that this time will seem high for me compared to last time (I don’t have my results yet). But looking at it logically your risk is extremely low.

Crissy83 · 30/01/2018 06:35

Thinking of you Subo, rest up and take all the time you need x

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/01/2018 06:54

Hmm I didn't have to do a CO test and didn't in last pregnancy either, nor with my daughter in 2004 (when I actually did smoke pre pregnancy!). Haven't smoked since 2011 though.

I think in my hospital you pay £3 per scan photo, card only, that's what my letter says.

Getting very impatient for harmony results now. They could come through as early as tomorrow but might be Friday.

Whichoneisit · 30/01/2018 07:19

grumpysquirrel hoping mine come today (day 8) but spoke with the hospital yesterday who said there has been some holiday in HK and there may be a delay

Hana327 · 30/01/2018 07:49

Hi all. Just catching up on all the news.
Sorry to all the ones who have received bad news. Thinking of u all!

Love some of the scan pictures. Some are very clear. We had our 12 week scan yesterday and they have changed my due date by a day so I am due on the 12th August now. It was absolutely amazing and there is only one baby...phew. after how ill I have been we did think there was a possibility of multiples!
Our scans our £5 for 1 or £10 for 3 but we got about 5 free as the person scanning was training! There was a professional checking over his work on a second computer so very relaxed with what he said.

misshannah · 30/01/2018 08:15

I didn't get asked to do a CO test. My MW did seem in a bit of a rush though and full of a cold so i couldn't wait to get out.

Our hospital is charging £10 per scan photo! OUCH. I think £10 is way to much to charge so they better be worth it! Scan isn't until 13th Feb though.

Last day of antibiotics yesterday for my 2nd bladder infection. Going to have to go back to doctors today as i don't think it has cleared up. Am so worried as it can't be good to have had 2 lots of antibiotics in the space of 1 month already. Can't help thinking something is really wrong. Sad

amzq87 · 30/01/2018 08:30

I did a CO test at my booking a few weeks back - I think it's been standard in my hospital trust for a long while now and we were one of the sites where mums who do smoke, got vouchers for giving up which they proved with their CO reading.

I'm really lucky because I'm a systems specialist at the trust where I get my treatment and one of the systems I look after is the one that stores the scans! Although I shouldn't look at my own record, it did mean free photos for me from the sonographer in exchange for some help I gave her - suppose there has to be some perks to working for the NHS these days lol :-) £10 is a lot though @misshannah !!

Hopefully you have just got a persistent infection - have you asked them to send a urine sample to the laboratory for culture? Could be worth it so they can give you some more specific antibiotics if they haven't already? X

amzq87 · 30/01/2018 08:33

@peterpanwendy good luck for the scan today chuck! I was worried about mine too but I really hope you enjoy it in the end xx
