@peterpanwendy I had such bad morning sickness last time, I was constantly exhausted and the thought of even taking a shower was such a chore. I can’t even imagine how you go to work, that in itself is like a major achievement if you ask me. I did feel like I was failing, the elder generation didn’t help, “they pushed out 20 children whilst tiling the roof”. I still do feel as though I’m not coping well because I see women who stroll through pregnancy and theres me at 10 weeks and I feel as though I’ve been pregnant for 10 months!

@Stephiewoo well done you!!! It must be so difficult, I’ve seen some women who chain smoke and quit during pregnancy...it gives them motivation as they are no longer quitting for themselves...one day at a time 🤗

Gem173 · 22/01/2018 20:21

@Stephiewoo glad I’m not going through it alone! And day one of not smoking! Congrats on stopping, I’m a non smoker but my oh smokes now vapes so I understand it can be a difficult process. Your doing the right thing and just got to stay in a positive mindset ! We all know you can do it :)
Oh and I think my constipation could be because of my pregnacare tablets but not too sure yet. It’s giving me lower backaches now tho :(
Anyone have a pregnancy pillow? Can you remind one? Are they good? Do they help? Sorry last night was the last straw as oh is literally pushing me against the wall and I just never seem to have room and my limbs ache from all the funny ways I have to sleep because of him xx

Gem173 · 22/01/2018 20:24

recommend * stupid autocorrect
And @horton I will try lookout for relief medication when I next go into boots!

Expecto · 22/01/2018 20:25

I had a HUGE pillow, looked like someone was slping in the bed when it was empty but I’m not going to take it out this time. I prefer pillow fortresses 👍🏻

Lucylou86 · 22/01/2018 20:26

@Expecto that's exactly how I feel, so nice to hear it isn't just me! Feel like I am being a drama queen!
My friend is 8 weeks ahead of me and seems to have breezed through so far. I have to keep reminding myself we are all different.
The emotions are all over the place the last couple of days

milney25 · 22/01/2018 20:30

@Gem173 I was wondering about pillows too. I had no idea that from the second trimester you are meant to sleep to sleep on your left hand side! It's really difficult! I keep waking on my back or right in a panic 😂

LadesC · 22/01/2018 20:34

Sorry to hear your news hettyturnip and bunbunmum. Thinking of you both.

Expecto · 22/01/2018 20:45

@lucylou ugh I hate that! The women that still look immaculate and then there’s me...I haven’t even run a comb through my hair since Friday and it looks like a ruddy birds nest 😂😂😂

Gem173 · 22/01/2018 20:54

@milney25 why the left side? I sleep whatever’s comfy haven’t even thought about it hurting baby

milney25 · 22/01/2018 20:57

@Gem173 it came up on my app, here's an article you can read:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/sleep-solutions/pregnancy-sleep-positions/amp

I don't think you need to worry about it until second trimester, but that starts this week for me.

Maybe the ladies with a bit of experience will tell us it doesn't matter too much and we can sleep how we like 😊

Gizzymum · 22/01/2018 21:05

As far as I know about the sleeping thing second trimester onwards:
-they recommend not sleeping on your back as the weight of the pregnancy can squash stuff. I think it's a similar reason for not sleeping on the right but less extreme.
-they say it doesn't matter if you wake up on your back/right side, just switch to the left and go back to sleep. Also try to fall asleep on your left.

I found having a pregnancy pillow helped as you drape your right leg over it and are therefore less likely to roll (at least that's what I found).

Try not to worry too much about it. Last pregnancy I had to switch sides 10+times a night due to back/hip pain and my LO turned out ok.

Whichoneisit · 22/01/2018 21:06

Can't catch up properly on the iPad. The consultant said he was 90% sure it was a boy but the bloods will confirm next week.
Another one with a cyst here. Have been getting some pain and flickering sensations and he found it when he checked. It's quite large so they'll keep an eye on it.
Told DD and DS. They cried happy tears. They were completely shocked! DS started to ask questions about whether we chose to have a baby so DH quickly distracted him. DD is 12 so no questions from her!

Buk88 · 22/01/2018 21:12

@lucylou @expecto- they are the worst! When I went for my early scan I had my hair scrapped back, my trackies on and my sick bowl in hand! I had to sit next to THE most together woman ever- I was so embarrassed! I tried to apologise through the heaves and she was so lovely too!

Gem173 · 22/01/2018 21:22

Thanks ladies x

Expecto · 22/01/2018 21:27

@Bukk88 that’s the one I’ve got but it’s huge! Oh and you’re talking about having a sick bowl...I was the one clutching my mouth running from the waiting area all over the shop trying to find a loo to throw up in. Don’t even know how I made it to the loo in time!

Gem173 · 22/01/2018 21:44

Bought this pillow as I’m 5’5 so 12ft would be too big! Hope it’s as good as you say haha

August 2018 #3 - booking appointments and 12 week scans!
Expecto · 22/01/2018 21:55

@Gem the 12ft one is the length of the bed basically. I’d find my husband sprawled out over it too sometimes. It is very comfy but like I said it does take up a lot of space on the bed so doubt I’ll be getting it back out this time. So far a pillow between my legs seems to be working well enough

peterpanwendy · 22/01/2018 22:00

@Peoniesandcats that's a nice idea I might try it. I definitely like the sound of hypnobirthing (other end of the journey) it includes a lot of mindfulness and good for those with anxiety and a usually low pain threshold (me I think!)

@milney25 yes but unfortunately that is the default response and quite often people don't know how to react :( I think I will feel better after the next scan given that all is well.

Thank you @Frescoed I do quite like the idea of swimming so might give that a try, haven't done it regularly in a few years though.

@Hortonlovesahoo so sorry your nausea is bad also, it's worse when around people who don't know because you just have to hide it!

@Expecto it's not nice is it 😓 I also find people are really unsympathetic it's so strange! are you finding it easier this time around?

Expecto · 22/01/2018 22:08

@peterpanwendy my sickness was weird last time, I was occasionally vomiting until 14 weeks and then after that to 22 weeks it was just constant and I mean constant vomiting. This time is different, I feel like I’m vomitting more in the first trimester (still not a lot though touch wood) and I’m hoping beyond all hopes that because I’m vomitting more now that I won’t get it in the second trimester...only thing that’s really getting to me is not being able to wash my face or brush my teeth with yakking up 😠

Expecto · 22/01/2018 22:10

...even so compared to the debilitating vomiting I had last time I can’t complain but I have every sympathy for women who get it. Especially women who go to work and those with children.

Gem173 · 23/01/2018 06:32

9 weeks today!! Getting closer to the first hurdle of the12 week scan 🤨

misshannah · 23/01/2018 06:57

9+2 for me today. @Gem173 I bought the same pillow - it's heaven!!!

I have another urine infection so need to get emergency appointment at Doctors today. Had one 2-3weeks ago and was given anti-biopics. Thought it had cleared up but came back with a vengeance at 3am this morning. Anybody else suffering with uti infections?

Feeling really guilty as my equivalent starts at work today. She'll walk into a miserable office and have no support as I'm not there. Hopefully the team will grow up and sort themselves out... one can dream!

Gem173 · 23/01/2018 07:17

@misshannah I had them before getting pregnant when I came straight off the pill, I had one then took antibiotics then it came back like a week later. Doctor said that for most women it’s cured by one course of antibiotics but for us we need a longer period of time to sort it out. Which does suck I always worry it will come back it’s so uncomfortable!
Looking forward to my pillow now!

StrawberryLemonade · 23/01/2018 07:23

@misshannah make sure you get a week of antibiotics which is what’s recommended in pregnancy. 3 days probably won’t be enough.
I’m 12w tomorrow... milestone I feel! I think the sickness is improving a bit but I have awful heartburn so that makes me feel sickly too!
