Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I’m not coping at the moment. Have a DS aged 5 who has autism and lately he’s been worse than ever. Yet again he’s in trouble at school, but we can’t move him somewhere more suitable as he doesn’t have his statement. It’s a complete nightmare. I thought long and hard about having a second child, and we waited until he seemed more settled and happy. Now I’m just wondering how I’ll ever cope.

bitzy12 · 18/01/2018 16:04

@dingdongdigeridoo feel for you, I have an autistic son too x

Sals27 · 18/01/2018 16:11

God I'm so bloated today, its especially noticeable when I'm sat at my desk. Its so bad I look like I have a little bump.

Congrats for the successful scans. I'm a little envious of you, I'll have to wait until 12/13 weeks to see mine for the first time. Midwife called this morning and put my booking in apt back by 2 weeks (it was supposed to be a week today), so I'll be 8+5 now. It works out quite nicely though as I'll tell my boss the day before so there will be no raised eyebrows about me ducking out for a few hours. I didn't want to tell him next week as it feels too early. We've not even told family yet!

Caimor23 · 18/01/2018 17:06

Is everyone having scans done now?? My midwife only scheduled mine for 12 weeks in, give or take. Is that normal? Sorry, first timer here!! Doesn't help that I'm American so anything I do know doesn't typically apply here Confused

MrsCaecilius · 18/01/2018 17:13

I'm 5 weeks today! GP appointment next Friday. Hopefully she'll be able to let me know what happens next and when. I'm clueless!

MonaTheMoaner · 18/01/2018 17:16

Totally normal. Early scans are done privately if you pay for them or on the NHS if you have a history of problems/pain or bleeding in early pregnancy to rule out an ectopic.

It’s completely normal for the first scan to be around 10-13 weeks.

Secondsop · 18/01/2018 17:28

@dingdongdigeridoo that sounds really hard. I have no helpful advice - I hope you are able to get the support you need.

@Caimor23 I only had an early scan because of some pains on one side - the doctor referred me so they could check it isn’t ectopic. If there’s no particular reason to scan early, such as symptoms or history of problems, it’s quite normal to have your first scan at around 12 weeks. Some people pay for an early one for reassurance though.

Super jealous of all the scans too! Today nausea has been far more manageable because I’ve been working at home, nibbling crackers/slices of apple/cucumber (thanks @kirinm) and sipping on squash. Commuting/work smells definitely makes it all 10 times worse.

Even managed to have some fruit and soup for lunch instead of bread.

Caimor23 · 18/01/2018 18:30

Oh great, thanks for explaining :)

Caimor23 · 18/01/2018 18:35

And @secondsop I hope your scan went well :)

Fia256 · 18/01/2018 18:59

I have major anxiety over my scan tomorrow. Really worrying it's going to be some form of bad news. It doesn't help that a friends just told me one of our friends is roughly similar stage to me, she doesn't know I am and I'm not supposed to know she is. I'm seeing her on Saturday when I'm sure she'll tell me her news, and while I'm happy regardless for her, it's going to be really tough for me if it all doesn't go well tomorrow!

Lineeye · 18/01/2018 19:03

@Fia256, I really hope all goes well tomorrow for you. The anxiety is awful and the worst part of early pregnancy. How far along will you be tomorrow?

Secondsop · 18/01/2018 19:29

@Fia256 all the best for tomorrow. My sister is pregnant at the moment although a couple of months ahead, and although I am nothing but delighted for her, I know I will find it extra hard around due date if my pregnancy doesn’t continue to progress, because of another baby in the family. And I know she will too because she is excited about us having babies at the same time.

@Caimor23 the scan went well thanks - it was very early so I have been given another appointment for when I’m 8 weeks.

Fingers crossed for all of those having early scans!

I had to tell my boss today, earlier than I had planned. The job I do covers 2 areas. The woman who works the other area announced she is 12 weeks pregnant yesterday. My boss asked me to meet with her this morning to discuss putting a case together for her maternity cover. Maternity is usually not covered (public services) but as our jobs are an 'essential function' she was going to try. I just asked if it would help her case if she had 2 posts to cover! She was lovely, she was last time though. I was off last week, I have one other colleague who is pregnant but last week another 3 announced they all were too! Definitely something in the water here, I'm number 6!

Fia256 · 18/01/2018 20:06

Thanks all

@Lineeye I'll be 6+5. Last time I had a scan at exactly 6 weeks and could very clearly see the heart flickering away. So regardless of what they say or not to worry at this stage etc, I'll take it as bad news if there's no flicker.

@Secondsop it makes it so difficult doesn't it! My best friend is also pregnant. Infact all 3 of us miscarriaged around the same time. Both the others were their first miscarriage, for me it was my third and I went on to have another after that, so I just feel like why is it always me! Which I know is selfish but it's so hard to not feel that way! I'm glad your scan went well today!

intelligentPutty · 18/01/2018 20:46

Big congratulations for all the good scans today.
@Fia256 I totally know where u are coming from and will be feeling pretty much the same in one weeks time when my scan is due. Will really be thinking of you and hope it goes well.

Paranormalbouquet · 19/01/2018 07:23

Best of luck Fia and anyone else having scans today! I’m secretly hoping you are a little further along than you thought- those lines were very strong quite early?

Mine is next Wednesday afternoon, anxious waiting but pleased I’ve held out as at least it should be clear at 8 weeks+. Even if it’s bad news.

Nausea bad again this morning. I seem to get a few hours reprieve in the middle of the day but bad in mornings and late afternoons. At least until pattern changes. Lovely DH said we can stay at home and relax all weekend which should help.

kirinm · 19/01/2018 07:41

Good luck today @Fia256 I'll be checking for updates.

I can't wait for a relaxing weekend @Paranormalbouquet

Boobs aren't that sore today but nausea is incessant so am trying not to overthink things.

HannahJH · 19/01/2018 07:58

Fia256 good luck today.

Great news on all other scans. I’m going to pay for one at 8 weeks if I’m lucky enough to get that far/have no reason for an Nhs one sooner!

Does anyone have any experience taking medication for nausea? Xx

iamloading · 19/01/2018 08:01

I have my scan on weds afternoon as well @Paranormalbouquet . Fingers crossed for us both and everyone who has scans before then

Fia256 · 19/01/2018 08:02

Thanks all, I'm really really nervous this morning but I can't change the outcome either way so will just have to try to relax! My nausea also seems to have returned, although that could just be nerves lol

@Paranormalbouquet haha, I wish that would be the case but I really doubt it as the first day I'd got a bfp I'd got a bfn that morning so think I caught it straight away! The lines did darken very fast though, so I'm praying there's only one in there Grin

kirinm · 19/01/2018 08:03

No idea on meds for nausea. I've read that the meds people take for HG only help stop you vomiting and don't get rid of the nausea so I'm guessing there isn't anything?

@Namechangedtoscream how are you doing?

kirinm · 19/01/2018 08:27

Oh god, I've started actually throwing up now. I don't know how you guys have stayed so calm about it.

Paranormalbouquet · 19/01/2018 08:36

My nausea is still coming and going a lot. Seems that I’m either nauseous or starving with little in between. But can only face carb based meals. Had pasta with red peppers last night which was good. Better than more toast anyway!

Iamloading my scan is really a cervix measurement but presume they’ll look to see if there’s a heartbeat at the same time.

MrsCaecilius · 19/01/2018 08:50

Does anyone know of any good sources of info for DH? He is v supportive, but is fining it hard to understand that impact pregnancy is having so early on!
