Pheebe · 30/04/2007 12:29

GRRRRRRRR letter arrived from the hospital that did my nuchal fold scan, thinking it was blood test results I stayed very calm made a coffee and sat down to open it ... IT WAS THE BILL!!! THEY SEND THE BILL BEFORE I GET THE RESULTS!!! Thought I was ok with it but I'm obviously alot more nervous than I thought.

Apricott · 30/04/2007 13:32

Pheebe - that's rotten. No doubt results will be with you soon. I had to pay on the day - and at £180 it was the most expensive I've heard of so far. Those guys must be raking it in!

Pheebe · 30/04/2007 14:07

Mine was 134 for the scan then another 90 for the blood tests. The scan was well worth it but this bit sucks, in some ways I dont want to know now

honeyapple · 30/04/2007 14:39

Cor that's pricey!
i thought mine was bad enough at £100 plus £30 for bloods (which I didnt bother with)

Apricott · 30/04/2007 14:44

Bloody oath! (as we've all started saying since DH moved over from NZ) - my 180 included blood tests! Now feeling I got off quite lightly. I know what you mean about not wanting to know. That's how I felt too.

Right - back to work - no more peeking on here - am having grave difficulty focussing on work at the mo. Bet I'm not alone!

MrsFish · 30/04/2007 15:12

I have just chased my results up from the blood test as it has been nearly 3 weeks. I don't have the full results, but apparently I am low risk on both counts, so that is great.

Its amazing how different regions differ on scans etc. I haven't had to pay out anything?

I had the dating scan at 12 weeks, will have my 20 week scan, and had blood tests at the doctors for the down syndrome etc. Is the nuchal scan seperate from the two I have stated?

Mumpbump · 30/04/2007 15:28

Good afternoon! Just popping in briefly - well, actually it's taken me so long to read through all the posts, I don't have time to post much back! Just to say to MrsFish that I think some HA offer nuchal fold scans as a routine, but the majority don't. It is different from a dating scan and if you had it, they should have given you a statistical risk analysis of DS. Sounds like you probably didn't, but if your bloods are good, then might not be worth it as it does the same thing, ie. gives you a 1 in x chance, rather than a yes or no answer.

Must go, but will try to post something tomorrow. Hope you all had fab sunny weekends and are feeling well!

Pheebe · 30/04/2007 17:55

Hi MrsFish
Mump is right, what I had done was an additional scan called a nuchal fold scan. Most HAs don't offer it so I had it done privately. It can only be done between 11+2 and 14+2 weeks so way before the NHS triple blood test (at 16 weeks).

Apricott, I'm struggling to concentrate on anything, let alone work at the moment. preganancy brain has kicked in with a vengence this week. The long pauses from DH followed by loud laughs when I've said something incredibly dumb are way too familiar from my last pregnancy. Didn't expect it this early on though

Anyone heard from Maisy yet???

maisym · 30/04/2007 19:25

had a check up & scan - all ok - baby jumping about!! SO relieved. The doctor doesn't know why I had the bleeding - perhaps some contractions in the evening - she thinks it could be stress & tiredness. My cervix is open slightly but this is ok after 4 kids - had a scan of the cervix to check everything is ok. Have to take progestrone tablets as well as thyroxine!! have a medicine schedule!!

What a thing to happen. I will be taking things easier. I've arrange some daycare for my 1yr old - will be difficult but I have to be able to sit down in the day (docs orders!).

The doc said no need for an amnio but still thinking about this.

hope everyone is ok and that no one has this type of scare xxxx

Pheebe · 30/04/2007 19:30

Maisy thats fantastic news, I'm so pleased and relieved for you. well done! Now resign yourself to large helpings of daytime tv!!!

ejt1764 · 30/04/2007 19:32

Evening all!

Good news - I had my triple test results back today (took nearly 3 weeks, I was beginnng to panic!) ... and I am .... low risk!!

Am a bit - one of the members of my department is retiring in July, so we advertised her job - closing date was today - we've had 37 applications! I've been through them all, and have had to be really ruthless - the person spec. was really detailed - giving all sorts of clues as to what we're looking for. Anybody who obviously hadn't referred to it has gone in the 'not a chance' pile ... I can see me having a late night while I try to come up with a preliminary shortlist ...

Apologies to everybody else ... As level French help coming up now!
BB - I teach WJEC, (and am one of their A level examiners!) - do you have an external examiner coming in, or is your teacher going to do the exam?
If it's the external coming in, make sure that you have something prepared about your future plans ... it'd be something a bit unusual to talk about having a baby!

Also, you probably won't have to talk about all three of your topics - you can choose which order they go in, so talk about your favourite 1st - with any luck, you won't get onto your 3rd topic. Also make sure that you refer to France or a French-speaking country in each of your topics - you get a large proportion of the marks from showing your knowledge of sciety.

Remember, each section of your exam lasts (only) 6-7 minutes - absolute maximum we're allowed to do is 14 minutes! I have a timer in my exams that beeps after each period of 7 minutes - it makes sure that I (and the candidates!) don't go over time!

French A level help over now!

Take care all ... off to wde through application forms again ...

ejt1764 · 30/04/2007 19:33

fab news Maisy!!!!

Now ... take it easy !

J20BABY · 30/04/2007 21:16

hi everyone, just popping in to say hi, might not be on much in the next week as have to be moved by mon 7th may, i just found out today, and the whole of the new house needs decorating, am very stressed but excited, lovely big house it is

don't move too fast without me, or wont be able to keep up, great news maisym, and hope everyone else is good x

OP posts:
maisym · 30/04/2007 22:25

thanks for your kind thoughts xxx

phebee - love homes under the hammer!

ejt - happy to hear your test results are good.

j20 - hope the move goes well. It's hard work doing up a house - hope things go well

bb - hope your not having to work too hard for your french exam - best wishes.

Apricott · 01/05/2007 09:25

Morning all!

Great news Maisym - what a relief!!

ejt - how were the applicants? I've been seriously thinking of retraining as a language teacher in the (am now beginning to think mistaken) belief that they are in short supply/high demand. Might pick your brains further at some point if that's ok with you

MrsFish - seems that the nuchal fold scan is usually mentioned only to, shall we say, women of a certain age, who have a v high risk just because of that. Maybe you're just too young!

Ho hum, I hear work calling...

Mumpbump · 01/05/2007 10:44

Morning all!

Good news, maisy!! Really pleased for you. Make sure you take it easy. What I wouldn't do for a day of bedrest right now - ds was up at 05:30...

BB - good luck with your French exam - when is it?

EJT - excellent news with the triple test results!

J2O - hope the move goes well! Perhaps you should invite some friends around and have a painting party! Some of our friends did this and it's amazing how many people are happy to help out with something like this...

Pheebe - I'm with you on the concentration. Also finding it hard to get motivated at work - am completely distracted by other things at the moment!

Hi to everyone else. Had a massive bump when I woke up this morning - presumably pushed forward by my bladder. It felt really hard too so I am guessing I felt the baby's back! I reckon I will finally give up the fight and start wearing maternity clothes by the end of next week! I only have one suit that still fits me and wearing it every day is a drag. No-one has asked whether I'm pg yet though so I guess it can't be too obvious - wishful thinking!!

We're off to France on Saturday morning to the Champagne region for a black tie dinner in the evening. I am quite excited, but half of me wants to just have a weekend doing nothing at home - I am soo tired!!

Hope everyone who is at home gets out to enjoy the sunshine today!!!

MrsFish · 01/05/2007 11:29

Thanks Apricott

My bloods results show low risk, so I'm a happy bunny, just counting the days till my next scan now.

Woooozle100 · 01/05/2007 12:26

Helloo everyone. Am a bit late joining in here I know - I was too scared to join before but now I feel happier that pg is viable, here I am. In a nutshell - I carry 2 chromo abnormalities (balanced translocation) and any pg is 50/50 as to whether it is passed on. This is my 5th pg. My dd is 2 and she has chromo abnormality - means she has some probs with health, growth and development but is doing grand at the minute (piccies are on my profile)

Had cvs with this pg and results show baby is not even a carrier. Abs delighted!

I recognise a lot of the names from the pg after mc thread.

Mumpbump · 01/05/2007 12:28

Hello EJB! Now I'm going to get even more confused between the two theads!!!

honeyapple · 01/05/2007 12:57

And confused between the 2 names-

ejb1976 and ejt1764 !!!

goodness me- can't one of you change...

Lots of good news on this thread- so lots of hugs to all those concerned.

MrsFish- in my neck of the woods women are only offered a 20 wk scan. Scandalous IMO. So I really felt I had to have a scan... and nuchal is just what the private clinics offer. TBH I wasnt really going for the nuchal test as such, I just wanted to see baby and know it was alive and kicking.

Mumpbump · 01/05/2007 13:11

Thought I'd bring the scan list over from the last thread so here it is... Not sure about the "etiquette", but I took Missnatalie off the list as it seemed a bit insensitive to have all of the "all fine" and then her bad result I hope she won't mind if she sees it...

Welcome ejb. I noticed from the stats thread that you are a brummie, whereabouts, I am in Sutton Coldfield..

I hope everyone is well.

I heard the heartbeat on Thursday last week.

Good luck to Polarmummy for tomorrow.

PolarMummy · 01/05/2007 17:37

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a long time, but I have been lurking and trying to keep up with you all!

Thanks for the good wishes WinnieThePooh, I am both really excited about tomorrow and rather worried as well, worried because I am reading about so many of you needing to wear maternity clothes and having nice bumps and I don't have a bump at all, I am just telling myself its because I was bigger than the rest of you to start with so its going to take longer to show and trying to tell myself to stop being a paranoid freak! Hopefully I will be back on here tomorrow or Thurs with a big grin telling you all everything is fine.

J20BABY · 01/05/2007 20:50

so polarmummy is maybe going to be the first to find out the flavour of bump, then me and mrsfish. so who is going to find out?

i definately am if possible, i'm desperate to know!

had an hectic day, got up at 5;30 been packing and loading what i can into the car and taking it to the new house, and haven't stopped till now, dd has picked bright pink and purple paint for her room, trying to get her room and mine decorated and carpeted by tommorrow night before i take the big furniture on thur morning.

a painting party sounds great, but my family are useless at helping me and a few friends have offered to help, but half of them are pg, and they all have dc so it would be difficult, unless we appoint one person as childminder not me though!

i've got an appointment with mw tommorrow, to test my iron levels, i bet if the tested my adrenelin at the moment, it would go through the roof!

anyway, enough rambling, hope your all well x
