thats a hard one Gemma, because its horrible going to A&E if you dont feel it is an actual emergency, and they might be a bit off with you for wasting their time.

Seems like the MW wasnt really listening when all you wanted was a bit of a chat. Can you feel the baby? Do you have any gut feeling of what you want to do?

I suppose if she says go, it would be best to go but what a pain! But, on the other hand if there was anything wrong and you didnt go you would feel so bad.

Mmmm well that was a really helpful and decisive post from me wasnt it

gemmamc · 14/05/2007 17:41

Kezza, thanks. Don't worry - I am not really expecting people to decide for me. Although I will take in consideration to what advice people may have for me (thanks).

Well, I don't feel particularly bad right now (apart from stress, that is...) and I have felt some movement today, so I am pretty enclined to wait till the morning and calling the GP's surgery. It's not like anything dramatic happened today....

She really didn't listen to me, whereas the GP did - so my gut instinct is to trust him not some person on the phone who I am not sure was even a midwife.

Mumpbump · 14/05/2007 17:45

Gemma - I would ring your hospital's EPU. They have always been very reassuring whenever I have had cause to speak to them although they will also say that if you're concerned, you should go in to get it checked up. But I think at the end of the day, there is a limited amount of diagnosis they can do without seeing you face to face and doing a scan.

Tallis - sorry to hear about your friend's baby. How awful for them...

I agree that the initial novelty has worn off, the worries are beginning to fade as people start to feel their lo's move and we are in a bit of a lull period, before we start getting seriously big. I think I'm getting my maternity stuff down from the loft either tonight or (at the latest) this weekend!!

buffythenappyslayer21 · 14/05/2007 17:56

gemma-havent you got a local mw you can ring for advice?we have them here, but i always feel like im bothering them when i ring (rang a few times when was having dd,mainly because of bleeding and spd pain) so im really trying not to ring them this time!!(unless something happened)

im getting the periody type pain, but jsut normal discharge.it hurts more when im moving but if im sat still its ok.so im wondering if its anything to do with the spd pain.(i mean if spd pain is hurting in pubic area, then maybe its like straining the muscles down there----if there are any left after 5 kids!!!)

have you rang nhs direct gemma?you could ring and ask to speak to a nurse, she might be able to put your mind at rest.

good luck to mrsfish and j20 for tomorrow!!cat wait for my scan!!

know exactly what you all mean about hitting the wall.its like we were all sooooo excited in the beginning, and now its just a case of waiting for the next mw appointment!!and i definately cant wait for this blooming stage to start.it will be sooo nice to have a bit more energy and feel pregnant and not just fat!!

alicet · 14/05/2007 18:07

I have been getting tightenings for the last week - was initially signed off work (due back wed) - my midwife and GP said it was probably braxton hicks but couldn't rule out prem labour and that I needed to rest. They have continued but I am less worried since the gp said if they were bh's they will settle into a pattern. Baby still moving at all else good. I guess if you're worried try resting - that helped me (not sure if this is practical for you - the days when my ds is at home means thats not really an option!!). Likely nothing to worry about though was the message I got - they were just being cautious to sign me off work I think. There is another lass on here who had similar things - her name is ejt-something - sorry my baby brain means my memory is terrible at the moment!!!! Have also had reassurance from friends who have had similar things. But the bottom line is if you're worried get it checked out by either a gp or midwife.

Good luck to those who have scans this week and I'll look forward to hearing all about them! Hope those who want to know the sex manage to find out - I really want to know and can't wait for my scan next week!! Although anxious as well that alls well - its a bit of an emotional rollercoaster!

Anyway, must fly - catch you soon....

gemmamc · 14/05/2007 18:08

buffy - no, that's the problem. The midwifes I saw for the booking appt only gave me a hospital number to call.

mumpbump - good idea to call the EPAU. I checked their website and they see women up to the 18th week (well, that starts tomorrow but never mind) whereas the midwifes at the number I called will deal with women after 18 weeks. So I seem to be right in between, but at the EPAU they were nicer....and actually put me through to a registrar once when I called...
They open at 8.30 am tomorrow so will go for that option. They are closed now anyway, so A&E would probably make me come back tomorrow for a scan, etc..

thanks to all for your advice. i am sure I (we) will be fine.

buffythenappyslayer21 · 14/05/2007 18:13

gemma hope your ok,and let us know how you get on tomorrow xxx

J20BABY · 14/05/2007 18:45

poor you Gem, try not to worry, but if it gets any worse, ring them back and/or go to a&e.

can't wait till tommorrow now, even though i'm apprehensive.

trying not to think about it, i bet i don't sleep tonight, will post as soon as i get back to let you all know how it went

MrsFish · 14/05/2007 19:15

J20 - I am hoping to find out the sex tommorrow, he/she had better play nice.

greedygreedyguzzler · 14/05/2007 20:42

oh dear! such a lot going on for everyone and none of it good! sorry to hear all the news about peoples friends losing babies. it does make you feel lucky and scared at the smae time doesn't it?

ok everyone..............if we have reached a wall lets just clamber over it and then we are on the downward slope to our lovley little babies being born. most of us must be nearly halfway by now and after tht time will fly by!

for some of you this will prob be your last pg so try and enjoy it as much as you can or at least get comfort that this is the last time you will ever feel like this!

i am getting VERY excited about baby and october really isn't far away at all, so start getting excited again girls and just try to accept that you are going to feel a bit pants for the next few months but then you will have a lovely little baby at the end of it.

honeyapple · 14/05/2007 20:42

Good luck everyone who is having scans! I can't wait to hear what flavours we are having so far... I wonder whether there will be a 50/50 split...

Gem- hope you feel better soon. I think a whitish discharge is quite normal though.

J20BABY · 15/05/2007 08:12

good message greedy, will try to look at it that way from now on

mrsfish, me tooooooooo!!!!!

will have fingers crossed for you, (and myself!) but hopefully no legs crossed! and hope everything is ok, even if we don't find out the sex, i suppose the main thing is, everything is developing well.

will post when i get in x

What time is your scan J20?

Mine is at 2pm

karlou · 15/05/2007 11:53

Hi! I'm new here - I'm due on Oct 28th and this will be my third baby. I've already got 2 daughters aged 8 and 5. I've been feeling a bit rough recently - I've had blood in my urine which has come back negative for infection but I've been completely lacking in energy and feeling really thirsty. Saw the GP yesterday and there's still blood so he's sent another sample off and I might need a blood test later in the week. I suffer from unexplained haematuria quite often anyway and had a plethora of tests a while back so I supsect this latest sample won't tell us anything new. I don't know why he couldn't do the blood test at the same time!
Sorry for the rant on my first post here!
Oh my 20 week scan date is 12th June btw!

Tallis · 15/05/2007 11:59

Welcome to the clan, Karlou - you'll find lots of sympathetic ears here because many of us have been feeling a bit low recently. So sorry to hear about the blood-in-urine problem: and yes, why can't doctors do more joined-up-thinking and do blood test at the same time? It's not an enormous leap of logic after all, is it, just to rule something out.

Have updated the scans list, though it will need further editing once Mrs Fish and J2O report back later today, and then Kezza tomorrow.

MrsFish - 15th May (20wk or thereabouts)
j20 15th May, 10 am(20 Week)

Mumpbump · 15/05/2007 12:00

Congratulations and welcome, Karlou! Hope you get the bleeding sorted out. Doesn't sound like much fun...

Hoping that the scans go well, MrsFish, J2O and Gemma, and you get to find out the sex if you want to! Do you think we should update the stats thread with this info? We're not going to find out the sex of our baby anyway, but it would be good to see what the split is!

Bit tired today as ds woke up at 04:30 and came into bed with us. Was too tired to face trying to settle him back to sleep. But he's such a little wriggler and wrapped his arm tightly around my neck so I didn't sleep very well, until we both got up at 06:00. Baby is kicking away so feeling quite positive, as is dh, two weeks tomorrow until my scan!!!

Hi Nezi - congratulations and welcome to you too! Sorry to hear about your first baby, but fingers crossed for a safe arrival this time...

There is a stats thread if you want to add your details (good reason for bringing the stats thread up to top to encourage people to add gender to their details...)

stats thread

KezzaG · 15/05/2007 13:21

Hi Nezi and Karlou.

Nezi, so sorry to hear of your poor little girl, you must be understandably nervous this time.

Just a flying visit from me as I am just off to my consultant appointment. dont know what to expect, think it is procedure following a section. I have been to Boots to buy a sample bottle as they dont provide them round here and I couldnt face taking my wee to hospital in a giant Evian bottle

Will catch up with todays scans later. I am stupidly excited for J20 and MrsFish today

WinnieThePooh · 15/05/2007 13:33

Welcome to the newbies.

Good luck to those with scans over the next week. I won't be on much this week as we are off on holiday on Saturday and I need to get sorted for it.

I have had terrible thrush recently. I got so bad yesterday I went to the docs. She gave me a liquid pessary form of CAnesten which seems to have done the trick.

I hope everyone else is well.

J20BABY · 15/05/2007 13:46

hi all

i'm back, welcome to the newbies

everything was fine at the scan, got 2 pictures the same though, and they're not very good, as she kept moving, but not enough to see her facial features very well, and had to pay £4 for the pictures, but my early scan pics where quite good, so don't mind too much

good luck fort mrsfish.

hope everyone else is feeling a bit better today x

J20 congrats I am sure you are thrilled. Did you have any feelings yourself that you were having a girl? Ohh you are the first to find out, part of me is very jealous but at the same point I want the surprise I am just not very good at waiting

You can focus on your girls names now can't wait to hear them.

I wonder how MrsFish is getting on and if her LO is being as co-operative as your little girl
