Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MKG · 24/04/2007 13:14

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry everyone feels like crap today. I happy though. The sun is shining, I slept wonderfully, and could still use another hour or so. Bump is ok, not too exciting here I'm afraid. He's head down though which is good, and very low. I still think is going to bust out everytime he gets the hiccups.

The only complaint that I have is that yesterday and today I woke up with the worst bloody nose. It just keeps coming. Must be the change in weather here. Oh well.

I've decided that my baby shower is on saturday for the following reasons.

  1. My sister brought presents for the shower and insisted that I open it. I got cute clothes for the baby.
  2. My sister in laws keep calling to ask if there is anything that I need for the baby.
  3. I made an appointment weeks ago for a haircut and an eyebrow wax for Saturday and my mom keeps telling me she'll come along so that she can watch ds. I told her it would be easier if I dropped him off at her house, but no she has to come with.

I tell you something is up. If it's supposed to be a surprise. People here suck at keeping them.

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2007 13:16

mmmmm ben and jerry's.........

Am eating vast tub of cous cous with salmon on top (yes it's farmed and bright pink, and ive had it twice already this week) It is yum!

Lupins, calm thoughts. Just move all your stuff over to his side of the bed, presumably he didnt specify where you have to put it? SCBU do that, make you think they wont be home for ages and then suddenly say "take them home then..." Dont worry about the boob/bottle thing. When the twins were put in different hospitals (one had suspected meningitis and bronchiolitis and needed a ventilator again) i couldnt be in 2 places at once to feed them so each had bottles. It made no difference to their feeding from me though.

Lwatkins are you there? Sounds like you had cramps and sickness. It does feel alot like labour pains, the nasty spasms from your poorly gut. Hope you are ok now, stick to plain food and rest your tummy.

MKG · 24/04/2007 13:17

Lupins Congratulations!! Don 't worry everything has a way of working themselves out. If you don't have a place for him to sleep let him sleep in his stroller or carseat. That's where ds slept for the first 2 weeks anyway, just because he liked it.

You will be fine and everything will come together.

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2007 13:24

hello MKG sounds like you may be right about the shower, at least you can wear something nice and be kinda ready!

The postie just dropped of my belly cast kit! I had it as an after thought the other night. I hate my photo taken so thought this would be a good way to remeberand have a record of the bump without me ducking behind a couch/tree etc...

I will def post some piccies once DH has done it, i may do it tonight as it would be a shame to get it and then not be able to use it. No coming out baby, it cost £20, so fairly extravagant i feel to waste.

Lwatkins · 24/04/2007 13:28

Afternoon......

Had a shte nights sleep, in pain, felt like my arse was falling to the bottom of the world, badly sick that left my heartburn even worse than ever before, no sleep until about 6 this morning and even then I kept waking up every 10 mins or so to pee or turn over. The bottom of my stomach is now covered is feckin stretchmarks that are so itchy it may drive me to insanity, and my room resembles something out of a bomb site due to the fact I can't bend to pick things up. Oh I feel sorry for my flatmates having to live with me today, steal my milk will they the basards!

Lupins - Oh yey for you and wee Arlen. Don't panic though, your little boy is coming home that's all that really matters Very happy to hear he is doing so well.

LG&T - Hugs sounds like such a character. Can't help but chuckle at some of the things you report he's doing. It's one of those things that you wanna laugh at but cry at the same time lol!

MrsJB - sorry to hear your feeling so crappy! Chin up, not long left.

PinkJ - don't fret, it'll probably be nothing to worry about. Keep us updated though.

SOH - even your posts sound energetic! Glad your in such a good mood, can you send me some of your happy please!!!

TYG - glad that your mum's stay is going ok, and DOH at your DH forgetting about m/w. It's ok though, cause you can just take it out on him when your in labour. Give his hand a good crushing that sort of thing

Hello to everyone else!

Pinkjenny · 24/04/2007 14:13

Lupins -thanks for the hug - I'm probably being slightly over dramatic as usual. So pleased Arlen is coming home, love the name by the way.

SOH - white blood cell count is 17.8. I have no idea whether that is really high or not! Am trying to remember that surely if they were really concerned they'd get me in now for tests.

Bought a big cheesecake to cheer myself up anyway. Any excuse!

Its amazing how quickly you stop thinking of yourself and just think about your LO and their wellbeing (I'm sure she likes cheesecake too.) Everything that happens I now think, is she ok, is she ok. Crazy.

Pinkjenny · 24/04/2007 14:16

MKG - I am convinced I have a surprise shower on Saturday too!

My aunty rang me and told me to keep the date in the diary as she would book Dancing on Ice - but it's not on in Manchester this weekend.

My mum has become very interested in the whereabouts of every friend I mention, and she ran about like a mad woman on Saturday buying things that I wasn't allowed to see.

I wonder if we're right!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 24/04/2007 14:24

PinkJ, you reminded me about the strep B test this morning. They will test you for it if they are concerned, as long as you get the antibiotics whilsh=t in Labour all will be fine if it is that, try not to worry.

I have a question about it if any one knows, maybe for lg&t? When I had my test at 34 weeks for it, all my midwife did was after she had done my internal she wiped her fingers on a swab stick and popped it into a tube. Do you know if this is normal. It didn't seem very accurate to me? The results have come back negative but I was just wondering would it be that obvious if it was there? IYKWIM

OP posts:
MKG · 24/04/2007 14:36

So is group B strep testing not typically done over there? Here it's one of those mandatory tests that we all have done.

MrsJaffa,

I wouldn't worry about the results you got, but it should be done just like a pap smear. I would imagine that doing a digital exam and then putting that on a swab would not be very accurate.

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2007 14:39

Hmmmm MRrsJB, to test for strep b im pretty sure it is a high vaginal swab. This involves the tube you mention with a swab on the end, a good scrape round the cervix with the tip of the swab and in to the tube. Her way doesnt sound very accurate or sterile. Maybe you should ask how they do the test next time you see her and feign ignorance at already having it done. She may tell you and then simply say, "oh but all you did was wipe your hand on the swab, is that ok"

Im pretty sure it would show up any abnormality it had managed to grab on it's hand swipe though. Just depends if it got on her hands, nice.......Oh the things we talk about

Eat that cheesecake, im just munching a toblerone. Not very healthy after my cous cous, bowl of all bran with a bananna and dried fruit ive had today.

Hugs is asleep on the couch!!!! Blissful silence and uninterrupted toblerone

BefnalBub · 24/04/2007 14:51

mrs jb at your midwife!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 24/04/2007 15:28

Thanks for that, I did think at the time, hmmm can that be accurate? The french for you. I will check it out with her I think at my next appointment.

MKG, Step b is not tested routine in the UK. It is here in France, well, sort of by the sounds of it.

Just found out that my cousin has had her baby a couple of weeks early. A little girl that weighed just under 7lbs and has been named Ava Ann. She wasn't due until the 11th May and she has had the baby today of all days - her Dad's Birthday lol! Mother and baby are both doing fine

Oh, I want mine! Mind I can't go popping early whilst I'm still at uni. From May 5th onwards is ok - watch me go 2 weeks overdue!

AbbyLou · 24/04/2007 19:19

Evening all! Not had much time to catch up today, been busy visiting a friend who's due 3 weeks after me. We met at NCT classes last time and her ds and mine are good little playmates. It was nice just to sit and chat about......being pregnant!! It's always good to compare notes isn't it?
LWatkins - congrats to your cousin. She was due the day before me, it makes me want mine NOW!!
Lupin - great news, really happy for you!
Well after yesterdays little wobble I have been very good and tried not to worry. I woke up this morning with another mega headache and it's been there on and off all day but not as bad as yesterday. My ankles are still really swollen and I guess my legs may be too as I couldn't do the zips to the top on my boots!! No sign anywhere else though!

Lwatkins · 24/04/2007 20:23

Very quiet in here today!

Have just made lasagne and it's cooking away in the oven now, mmmmmm. I'm knackered from making it, everything just seems to make me sleepy at the minute!

Abby sorry to hear you headaches still giving you grief. Nice that you met up with a friend and chatted though. I only know one person with a child who's gonna be 2 soon. Wish I had a pregnant budy and people with babies around me! Mind I have my cousins!

dorisdaily · 24/04/2007 20:35

MrsJB - I had a swab for gbs yesterday due to high white blood cells and it was done high in the cervix but it sounds like its all a bit hit and miss anyway as most women carry gbs in the gut and i does just depend on wether its down that region and if your waters go first and early.
My waters broke at 37wks with DD so they did a swab as a precaution and it came back positive 2 days after she was born luckily she hadn't contracted it during birth - I do think its quite rare for it to be a problem - hope this makes you feel bit better. This websites good for info www.gbss.org.uk

Juicylucytoo · 24/04/2007 20:45

Great news Lupins.

Feel like a big fat lump today. Need to sleep. Going to bed.

Too many days left to work. Knackered and can't face it anymore.

Night all!

scootermum · 24/04/2007 21:48

Evening all,

Am having some pretty bad what-I-only-hope are BH...whilst sitting and finishing another NVQ unit!2 more to go-baby stay put till its done..I am heartily sick of it now and fear the standard of my work is declining apace with my interest in it..

Now I dont want to freak you out SOH,but today at Toddler group DD had to be pulled out of a sandpit becuase she was eating mouthfuls of sand....wierd huh? What were the other bits of your dream again?I aint going near any beaches just in case...

largegandt-your poor KK were returned to me today..I had high hopes they would have somehow been preserved perfectly by the power of tuperware so I could scoff them, but alas they were rotten so I had to give them a ceromonial burial..(alright, i chucked them in the bin...but the sentiment was there..)

Bumps and Babes first May meet up is at my house tomorrow-feel really nervous about it for some reason-well probably as about 6 more people have replied and there is little room in my house for more than 3 at the best of times...still have baked fairy cakes and even got the cake stand out ready-and have cleaned the house from top to bottom today, much to DD's disgust as she wanted to play instead..

Have house survey in morning, (it will probably turn out the house is ruddy falling down knowing our luck), then GP to get a mole checked, then this meeting...all assuming these pains are BH and not the real thing...

Sorry to hear people are in pain/fed up/tearful...for what its worth I have been by turn all three today..However in the last half an hour have started to feel relatively chipper despite BH, so it goes to show-I am slowly going insane...

Great news Lupins!How exciting..

Am driving up to Mum and Dads tomorrow night-so DH can cane some revision and I can hopefully finish NVQ in time for next week...however at least they have a PC so it wont take me an hour a night to catch up as it is at the mo...

Looking forward to Monday..am going to go shopping as well and possibly to an exhibition of my friends pictures somewhere in Hackney, and maybe if not totally exhausted, out for tea with some other friends-so am going to make a real day of it-dont know when I will get chance again!

scootermum · 24/04/2007 21:51

Sorry about the mammoth post-feel like I have alot to say by the time I get on..ruddy DH and his'work' laptop...

anneme · 25/04/2007 00:24

Anyone awake now? Can't sleep but at least I was in bed by 10.00 so have had some sleep already.

Saw consultant and had scan today. LO v healthy etc etc but, at 36+5 it is at least 8lb 5oz or so (although I know that this can be wrong). They have filled in the graphs in my notes and its size is almost off the top of the graph. The consequence being, despite having got LO to turn, I am def on for a cs on 9 May. I kept asking things like "if it came early - like tonight - could I have it naturally?" and the dr said "well, maybe if it arrived in the next couple of days otherwise it is likely to be an emergency cs" Now I am worried I will go into labour early! I had been planning a pineapple/raspberry tea/curry/shagging fest to get things going but NO! DH was really sweet - he knows that I am not keen on cs and when I said that I was terrified about the idea of an op he did point out that he could not understand how I could be terrified of an op and not of childbirth. Poor thing was almost in tears because he is worried about me - particularly when they mentioned the incontinence word again. I am lucky with him he's so lovely...I'm going all sentimental now.
Right, am off to watch some crap tv before going to bed and before I start weeping emotionally at the loveliness of DH (who, incidentally I can hear snoring throught the floor - am in the room above. That has bought me down to earth!).

Juicylucytoo · 25/04/2007 09:00

anneme - sorry to hear you have to have a cs. But on the bright side a planned cs is much better than an emergency one (so I'm told) and you'll be holding your baby in less than 2 weeks. That's got to be something to look forward to. Try not to worry too much. Concentrate on the positive if you can. xx

largeginandtonic · 25/04/2007 09:21

Good luck with the weekend of help scoot and i hope you manage to get some work done before the LO makes an appearance!

Aneme hope you make it to your section date, im in the same boat. Really hoping i dont go in to labour early so it is at least a planned section.

Im meeting a MNetter today! A fellow twin mummy from the multiples site. She has a toddler and 4 week old twins!!! Im gonna go all gooey i just know it. Hope it doesnt put me in to labour!!!

I may be gone for the rest of the day, grieving to be done....

aprilmeadow · 25/04/2007 09:25

Anneme - sorry to hear that you need a cs & at the size of bubs already! I guess at least you know when bubs will arrive.

OMG i have just had the best news..... well news that probably isnt that important, BUT LG&T & Lupins will understand. Tesco's in Camberley (about 15 mins from home) stocks...... wait for it..... KK's!!!!!!! Pick'n'Mix, make your own dozen YUMMMMMMMMY

It was ds's 2nd birthday yesterday and we had a pretty good day - when he was behaving himself. We took him to BirdWorld and he loved looking at all the parrots, peacocks, owls etc. They also have an aquarium and we spent ages looking at Nemo and his 'dad'. He had soooooo many presents, its going to take me days to write the thank you notes. I have popped a few more pics onto my profile of the kids.

I hope that you are all feeling well today and that babies are behaivng and not causing you to much discomfort.

MrsJB, How are you doing??
