I had to change midwives as my old session clashed with twins clinic and my new one is so nice!

She gave me helpful advice. She confidently found both boys heartbeats and was just generally reassuring.

I am definitely sticking with this session!

That's great @clareb83. Do you have the same midwife every time?

ClareB83 · 12/02/2018 17:19

I should do yes apart from if she's on leave. I wasn't that keen on my last one - she was quite flappy - so it was a pleasant change.

That's fantastic! I've seen a different person every time I've been in, a real mix from one who I thought was fab and hilarious to another who was fine but thought I am younger than I am so was being quite patronising until she realised (although ill take the compliment that at 31 she thought I was going to be a teenage mum Grin) and then one who was just ok.

ClareB83 · 12/02/2018 21:14

Yeah I'd take teenage Mum!

Good morning ladies,
@ClareB83 glad to hear your happy with the new midwife.
How is everyone feeling?
I feel as if time is dragging on a bit now and it feels like ages until 36week scan.
What is everyone doing at the moment to prepare for birth/the bundles of joy?
(I'm on annual leave for a week and feel lost😣sad I know)

ClareB83 · 13/02/2018 08:01

DH has been putting up blackout blinds, deep cleaning the carpets and baby proofing furniture, blind cords etc

I have been mainly sitting still. This was our last free weekend until April 😳.

We have so many medical appointments with twins I think that makes things go a bit quicker eg two this week and two next week.

We've also read a few baby books and made our own bullet point list of milestones and to dos by month.

We're also adding to a baby wish list things as we realise we need them eg first aid supplies.

I'm resisting buying anything else until after the baby shower.

I have my 20 week scan today, at last!! The baby has been seriously busting some moves in there so I'm keen to see what it's up to.

I've also been hit big time with a cold and I've been awake since 4.30am. I'm just about managing to keep my eyes open now!

We've been adding nappies, wipes, etc to our food shop, but like you Clare we're holding off until after the baby shower. My family live 4 hours away and I get calls every week because someone wants to give us a cot or moses basket, or have bought us more clothes. They're so keen, there's not been a new baby in the family for some time! We're also looking to move house so anything we do have is living in boxes for the time being.

To cover us I've been popping the odd £20 aside whenever I can so that I can get online in those last few weeks on maternity leave and buy anything we're missing.

Shutupanddance1 · 13/02/2018 09:28

I’m 23 weeks now and I think time has flown by but I have a toddler to run after Shock

I’m keeping Rennie in business with the heartburn tablets Grin

We have looked up a new car seat. It’s literally the only thing we have to buy - so sad as I feel like this baby is going to have nothing of its own! But like PP, we’ve been adding in packet wipes here and packet nappies every so often into the weekly shop. We’ve enough size ones (as my DD stayed in them like 2 weeks) so we are just buying size 2s as I know I’ll need them for longer.

Northernbeachbum · 13/02/2018 11:09

Oooh you're lucky @mummyloves09 getting another scan. I'm considering whether to have a private one just as a treat

I don't feel like we've done much, got a travel system. Need to get new mattresses for the cot and Moses basket. Enjoying the ability to do what we want when we want Grin

Time feels like it's flying by a bit. I've worked out how long I've got til maternity.....not long

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 13/02/2018 12:49

All I'm really doing to prepare for the baby is trying to get Ds attuned to the idea. He loves other people's babies and seems quite excited although he was terrified at the 20 week scan. I still have all of his stuff plus we are in Scotland so will get a baby box. On the one hand, I feel bad that I'm not really buying new stuff but I just can't justify it when we already have so much.

In terms of the preparing for getting baby out, I'm considering hypnobirthing even though I'm hopefully having an elective section because I have a shed load of nerves due to what happened with Ds. I'm also considering menu planning with a view to filling the freezer or paying someone to make a ton of food for us (DH is a star but other than steak he's not the best cook).

Physically I feel great apart from having a cold and getting kicked in the bladder every time I cough. Time seems to be flying though.

ElizabethLemon · 13/02/2018 16:47

@Dinosauratemydaffodils how old is your DS? We’ve had a few wobbles recently about the baby, “you’ll love him more than me” etc. which has upset me so we are trying to keep DS involved and positive, he’s had some interesting name suggestions!

My H and I are both off this week so we had a bit of a clear out. Hopefully we’ll pop to ikea at the end of the week and grab some storage stuff. We still need to get rid of one bit of furniture in our room and move some stuff around so that we can fit the crib in. I also need to paint the crib! It feels like there’s loads of time to sort stuff out but I know it’ll end up going really quickly and I’ll have a mad panic at the end.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 13/02/2018 17:24

@ElizabethLemon He turns three this week. He's asked if he'll still be my baby when the baby comes a couple of times and whether the baby will be sharing his room (his cousins share and I think that's got him worried) but on the whole he's been pretty positive so far.

How old is your Ds?

ElizabethLemon · 13/02/2018 18:15

@Dinosauratemydaffodils aah my ds gets cross when I call him my baby, I’ve explained to him that he’ll be my baby even when he’s 45! He’s 6 almost 7 so it will be a big adjustment but he’s very excited.

expertonnothing · 14/02/2018 07:46

Hi all, I'm due 10 June but will be having a section the week before.

I'm now 23 + 3 and still no bump....anyone else like this??

My first pregnancy was the same and I had a 9lb baby!

PrimeraVez · 14/02/2018 10:58

Hi ladies, just catching up. I'm nearly 23 weeks now and feeling a lot of kicks! Bump is pretty big as well already - I compared some photos to my pregnancy and I would say this time I'm showing about 4 weeks ahead.

I''m another one who is feeling bad that this DC won't have much new stuff. DC1 hasn't yet turned 2, so we still have everything hanging around from him - pram, cot, car seat, Snuzpod etc. I'll buy new bedding and sleepsuits, but that will be about it.

Does anyone know anything about getting a breast pump serviced/refurbished? I have a Medela Swing that I used A LOT with DS and I wonder if I need to replace any parts? God, I am dreading the idea of pumping again!!

NotEnoughHandCreamInTheWorld · 14/02/2018 12:01

Hello ... I'm late. As usual Grin
Due end of June, had our 20wk scan on Monday and looks like a little girl.
This will be my 2nd, my ds is 4.

Addy2 · 14/02/2018 14:39

Not buying anything yet really. Feels a bit early still, even though I feel huge. Considering antenatal classes- there's a daisy birthing class, NCT essentials /signature and hypnobirthing to choose from. First timer though, anyone done any of them before? Were any particularly good /worth it?

Snoopy30 · 14/02/2018 16:08

I'm almost 24 weeks with my first and pretty much haven't bought anything yet, should i be panicking!? Confused I've written a list and researched lots online but haven't felt ready to buy things up until now (previous early mc has made me far more cautious). Will probably start in the next couple of weeks though, i think i'll need to with the length of list i've got!
Booked myself in for a 4D scan in a few weeks time, cant wait to see her again!

Alice0606 · 15/02/2018 02:17

Wow @expertonnothing I’m 24 + 1 and have a very obvious bump!

Anyone else getting lumbar back pain? Sitting still for any length of time is painful atm, but walking around and doing things helps.

Preparations are going pretty well. My cousins are giving us a few bits and pieces and our lovely next door neighbour has given us ALL her baby stuff! (I think she was glad to be rid of it!) I had fun going through everything - some of it is totally worn out, other bits are brand new! This is our first, so there’s still quite a lot we need. I’ve been buying lots of bits on eBay to keep the cost down. DH has complained that I’m rushing and getting prepared way too early, I think he actually feels a bit left out because I’ve done all the research and buying. :(

DH has suggested going to The Baby Show at the Excel in a couple of weeks. Anyone else thinking of going? Has anyone been before? I’m not sure whether it will be useful, or lots companies trying to sell us all sorts of extras we don’t really need and can’t really afford.

ClareB83 · 15/02/2018 06:53

I thought about going @Alice0606 but since we already have the pushchair and car seats I don't think it's worth it. I also suspect it'll be mainly the pricier brands there.

In terms of your DH maybe you could delegate certain things to him eg mine did the car seats, baby proofing and seems to have taken responsibility for first aid as well?

I definitely have a bump at 24+6 but sometimes I feel huge and other times I see mums just having one baby who are bigger than me at 20ish weeks and don't feel so big. Yesterday my phlebotomist was surprised it was twins and told me that I will get big. Midwife says my uterus is measuring a little big though as expected for twins and they are measuring fine so that's the main thing.

OP posts:
Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/02/2018 17:39

I have quite a long waist so I think that hides the bump quite well although I feel huge. I bloated up at like six weeks but haven't grown massively since and I'm 23 weeks. At my 20 week scan baby was measuring bang on for dates so is just doing a brilliant job of lurking.

With my first, we didn't really buy anything before 30 odd weeks and we still needed to get stuff afterwards, including clothes as I'd only bought 0-3 months and they were too big for him. His going home from hospital photo is this ball of clothes with a mop of black hair sticking out of the top.

@Addy2 I'm considering hypnobirthing. I had a bit of a dodgy experience with ds and it's been suggested by friends, Dr sister in law and her OB best mate as well as the community midwives. I'm going to mention it to the consultant when I see her next week and if she's positive, will be booking some sessions.

Shutupanddance1 · 15/02/2018 19:06

I wouldn’t feel bad not buying anything yet - you have plenty of time. I would say to buy the bulky heavy stuff now when you are still more mobile as later on it gets harder to physically traipse around the shops.

I’ve a proper bump - but second time round always looks a bit bigger from what I’ve been told, that and the chocolate Blush Gave a friend of mine some of my maternity stuff last time round and now she’s moved so I can’t get them back Sad - I know I’ve only 17 weeks to go but I really don’t want to be stuck wearing the same 4 outfits at the end as nothing else fits!

Winterfellismyhome · 15/02/2018 19:13

Hi all, im actually due beginning of july but I wanted to ask about baby movements. We had a 20 week scan yesterday and she seems okay and can see her moving on the scan but havent felt anything yet. Im also overweight so i dont know if that has an impact. When did everyone feel the baby move or kick?

Lizwilkinson88 · 15/02/2018 19:24

Hey, I didn't feel that much at 20 weeks, had felt slight movement but nothing too much, I'm now 24 weeks and feel him everyday, I know everyone says it, but you will soon start to feel your baby.
