@ClareB83 thanks, I think its the comparison to my dc1 that made it a bit shocking. Although I had a growth scan later on with with him where they estimated that he was well over 7lbs!

How many scans have you got left before your c section?

ClareB83 · 13/03/2018 17:29

I think I only have three booked (31, 33 and 35 weeks), but every time I go to hospital at the moment they rearrange all my appointments. And sometimes at twin clinic they do a quick scan too. It's going big to be here before know it isn't it?

I think the weight measurement is the least reliable. It was the abdominal one on twin 2 that caused concern time before last and I think it was a just a bad view. At this last scan they did about four tries before they were happy.

@ElizabethLemon from what I gather the growth scans can be a bit inaccurate but I'm sure if they thought baby was too big they'd say Smile

@clareb83 any news on the bike? When do they book you in for a c section out of interest?

I've been having massive movements lately, really weird to get used to. I'm still not convinced our dates are right

ClareB83 · 13/03/2018 18:18

Forensics say there's no point coming as it has rained. Not sure how that affects evidence inside a garage but can't be arsed to argue about this. Neighbour says he'll download the cctv and pop it over to us on a usb stick one evening. So no real news. DH has been browsing new bikes with bigger engines 🙄

We know the c section will be sometimes between 36 and 37 weeks but they won't give us a specific date until about 3 weeks beforehand. I think it's a bit daft, just get it booked!

I know what you mean about bigger movements as well. I feel like I can feel them repositioning, moving a limb, shifting much more clearly in the last week or so.

OP posts:
ClareB83 · 13/03/2018 19:02

Also why don't you think your dates are right @Northernbeachbum?

OP posts:
Northernbeachbum · 13/03/2018 19:37

You'll have to suggest one with a side car for the boys to go in Grin

That does seem a little illogical, be good to know sooner and if it's only a week leeway why not book it! I'm sure there's some odd NHS logic

Oh because the pregnancy app we've got seems to be a good 2 weeks behind what we are experiencing. I was on the pill so obviously it's all been guess work Blush

Cookie1831 · 13/03/2018 19:48

Well I ended up having loads of tightenings last night and today so rang the midwife and was sent to delivery floor listened to baby but too early for a trace or anything, they did a speculum exam and cervix long and posterior so although uncomfortable definitely not labour have just stretched my ligaments some more and set off a pile of Braxton Hicks doh!x

ClareB83 · 13/03/2018 20:15

Glad it wasn't labour @Cookie1831!

Ah I see @Northernbeachbum - that must be odd. And you must be double guessing when to start mat leave as well.

No way are the boys allowed on the motorbike. Even if I was ok with it, my mum's Dad was in a terrible motorcycle accident with two of his sons in a sidecar. He was paralysed and ultimately died from complications leaving a young widow and 8 children behind. My Mum would justifiably lose her mind.

OP posts:
Northernbeachbum · 13/03/2018 20:56

@cookie1831 that must have been a bit unnerving but great news that you're only having Braxton hicks. I've been having them every few days just mildly but as soon as I get up and walk around I can ease them off thankfully

Well I'm going off relatively early anyway as my job involves a vast amount of driving and being hours and hours away later on just unnerves me and I'm already having back problems from too much time on the road (massage booked for next week though)

@clareb83 wow yes that makes perfect sense as why they won't be going on it!! Maybe just sit on it in the garage and make engine noises Smile

ClareB83 · 13/03/2018 21:20

DH is under strict instructions to be an uncool Dad so the boys think motorbikes are uncool. Foolproof right?!!!

I have a desk job but still happy I only have 6.5 weeks to go. Nearly three hours commuting for each office day is going to get too much really soon.

OP posts:
Northernbeachbum · 14/03/2018 00:26

Haha I think that's a brilliant plan!!! Plenty of dad dancing and bad clothes choices and you're sorted Smile

Are you able to work from home at all? I'm hoping I might be allowed to one day a week towards the end

Alice0606 · 14/03/2018 00:31

@cookie1831 I did the same thing this evening, only slipped down a few stairs, but petrified my poor hubby. Don’t think I’ve done anything more than bruise myself though. Hopefully you won’t feel too sore in the morning.

@ElizabethLemon we had a scan yesterday at 27+5 and he was estimated to weigh just over 1kg. That’s 45th centile, so 3lb is definitely big. Did they say what centile that is? They didn’t tell us, but it was on the scan report in my notes.

@ClareB83 so sorry to hear about your break in, such a horrible thing to happen. Home is meant to be somewhere you can feel safe and secure. :( Fellow East Londoner here, but we’re not planning on staying. Like you, I already owned a house here, but hubby hates London, so we’re going to sell up and move closer to my parents.

ClareB83 · 14/03/2018 07:41

@Northernbeachbum I'm working from home at least once a week already and last week announced I'd be doing more as the office chair makes me so stiff.

@Alice0606 my DH is a West London guy and our friends are all West and the journey to both families is quicker from the West, so it's probably where we'll end up. But our commutes are easier out East and obviously you get more house for your money. So it's a tricky one.

OP posts:
ClareB83 · 14/03/2018 07:42

Also my feet are so swollen now. They're like puffy monsters at the bottom of my legs. Couldn't even face trying to squeeze boots on this morning.

OP posts:
ElizabethLemon · 14/03/2018 09:18

Clare, my dad had motorbikes and nor me or my siblings have ever considered riding one. Although my sister often rides her pushbike home from the pub 🙄.

They haven’t given an over all percentile but have plotted his measurements which all seem to be middle to high. 3lbs is 1.3kg. Abdominal size is at almost 95th though! They said my ds1 had a big abdomin too but when he was born he had a completely normal belly!

Also I’ve gained 3kg since the beginning of pregnancy and according to the growth scan almost half of that would be baby. I feel like I’ve gained more than that, my face and thighs are definitely —huge— bigger.

Anyway, who knows! Everything is fine and the hospital don’t have any concerns so I’m not going to ruminate and work myself up. The main thing is that my BP has been fine so far and my placenta and blood flow are all good which is what they have been monitoring me for.

Community midwife is coming over a little later so I’ve got some frantic tidying to do!

SparklesandBubbles · 14/03/2018 10:31

@ElizabethLemon - mine was estimated at 3lb3oZ at my 28 growth scan. Also worrying I'm cooking a huge baby! 3kg is nothing for you to put on. I've managed to put on 8kg already!! Really hoping I don't put on too much more. That said I'm doing better than with my first - managed to put on 20kg with him - god knows how - I had a lot of water retention with him though.

@Cookie1831 glad it wasn't labour. I've been getting a few tightenings but not much. I didn't with my First either.

@Northernbeachbum That must be quite difficult not knowing precise dates. I know 100% my date is accurate as we only DTD once - the joys of having a toddler and not much sleep!!

@ClareB83 - can you work from home more? With my first I ended up working from home 2 days a week sometimes more if I didn't feel up to going in. It made such a massive difference not having to trek into the city and meant I didn't have to take mat leave early.

Shutupanddance1 · 14/03/2018 12:30

@sparklesandbubbles - I put on 20kg with my first as well but I had pre eclampsia. Once I had my DD, 2 weeks later I had lost more than half of it although my feet were horribly sweaty all the time from the fluid retention! I’ve put on 9kg so far (I’m 27 weeks) so happy that it hopefully won’t be as much this time Confused

So sorry to hear about your break in Clare - that must be horrible.

Alice0606 · 14/03/2018 13:19

@ElizabethLemon I think the weight is calculated from the head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length - so I’m guessing it’s the big AC measurement pushing up the estimated weight. Our measurements have been totally different on each scan - I suspect it massively depends on the sonographer, angles etc.

On fundal height measurements my bump is sitting on the 90th centile, so personally I’m hoping the scan is more accurate! Tbh, as long as he’s healthy and growing as he should I’m not going to worry too much about the birth yet! buries head deeply in sand

3kg weight gain sounds very little for a big baby. I’ve gained 6.5kg so far. According to the weight tracker in my pregnancy app that’s within the normal range for my starting weight and height, but it feels like a lot! It seems very individual.

Do you have more scans booked? Our next one is at 32 weeks. I’m guessing they get more accurate as we get closer to our due dates.

How many appointments has everyone else been having? I’ve had 3 in the last week (obstetrics, fetal medicine and midwife) but my next one is with the midwife in 3 weeks. They seem to cluster!

HoneyBee03 · 14/03/2018 14:34

Just been catching up on the thread :) Good to hear everyone is doing well! Sorry about the bike theft @ClareB83 - a stress you probably don't need!

I was weighed recently and I've gained 7kg, but most people keep telling me I look no different and it's hard to tell I'm pregnant, so it's funny to see the weight going on. I ended up in hospital at the weekend with a bleed - me and my partner decided to get busy and what followed has put us off for a while! Been taking it easy for a few days and all is well, but I have another appointment next week with the midwife to follow it up.

I don't have any more scans unless they spot a problem, I have midwife appointments only from now on. I'd love to work out the weight of the baby, I guess I'll have no idea if I have no more scans lined up?

Alice0606 · 14/03/2018 16:00

@HoneyBee03
Just two scans (dating and anomaly) is the norm unless there’s any reason for concern. So no extra scans is mostly a good thing, although it is lovely to see our little wriggler more often.

Our baby has an echogenic bowel, which was picked up at the anomaly scan, so we’ve had extra appointments at the fetal medicine unit. So far it’s all been pretty reassuring. There were no ‘soft markers’ of any problems on the scans and he’s growing well. Blood tests for congenital infections came back negative. And the cystic fibrosis genetic testing came back as low risk.

Sometimes babies have an echogenic bowel for no apparent reason and are absolutely fine when they’re born. But as it can be an indicator of downs or cystic fibrosis and the screening doesn’t pick up every single case we just have to wait.

You might get a rough idea of the size of your baby from the fundal height measurements your midwife does. I think that’s more to check that they keep growing consistently than the absolute size though.

ClareB83 · 14/03/2018 17:38

I was doing one day a week at home already, I've upped it to two now and I might up it to three after Easter.

I'm glad you're not worrying @ElizabethLemon as it sounds perfectly fine to me. The weight estimates are also notoriously inaccurate. My friend was tells no me today how her little girl was estimated at 9kg and came out at 11kg!! My two boys will be lucky to weigh that much out together!

And it's good t hear your follow ups have been reassuring @Alice0606.

We have our baby shower on Sunday organised by my Mum and Aunt. I insisted guys were included and I have a rough idea who is coming but otherwise it's all a surprise which is lovely. I know some people think it's naff but I organised my best friends and we had a great time including the guys - it was just a chance to see everyone before you disappear into newborn limbo.

Northernbeachbum · 14/03/2018 18:41

We have no more scans and seem to have very few midwife related appointments. We have a consultant meeting for me to push for an ELCS but other than that we have very little

Is anyone planning on buying a heart rate monitor thingme for when baby arrives? Can't decide. And also read the new SIDS guidelines today after buying a sleepyhead.....the NHS SIDS guidelines are against them but I've heard nothing but good things and they've not been linked to anything happening. Bit confused now

Alice0606 · 14/03/2018 22:01

@ClareB83 please tell me you mean lb not kg! I shall be having nightmares about 11kg babies

We’re not having a baby shower, but I think I’ve bought pretty much everything we need for the first few months already. Blush
The one major thing left on the list is nappies. Has anyone tried, or thought about trying, washable nappies? I’m trying to decide whether they’d be a good idea. It would save us quite a lot of money in the long run. But how much extra work are they?

@Northernbeachbum Do you mean a fetal Doppler like the midwives use? Or some other sort of heart rate monitor? We weren’t planning on getting anything. I think the NHS advise against the fetal dopplers as they can give false reassurance.

We were in a similar position regarding the sleepyhead. It was recommended to us, but as you say, the current guidelines don’t support their use. We decided not to buy one at the moment and see how he sleeps without one. If he’s a terrible sleeper we’ll reconsider it.

ClareB83 · 14/03/2018 22:11

Gosh sorry yes @Alice0606 I meant lbs! 😳

And I think @Northernbeachbum means a monitor for after the baby is here that monitors movements, heartbeat etc in the cot. We got given a regular monitor and actually not sure we'll even use that at first, house is so small I think I'll just hear them.

OP posts:
ClareB83 · 14/03/2018 22:13

Also my SIL is pretty pro reusable nappies. But said not to do it when they're newborns as it'll be too much effort at first, but after that she recommends them. Not sure I can be bothered.
