@ClareB83 Could you get away with responding facetiously but in a "light-hearted" manner to these women? I wouldn't be able to stop myself. "What a helpful and supportive comment, thank you!" big smile "If there's one thing that will lessen the load of managing twins, it's knowing I have you two willing me on!" etc...?
I haven't yet had the stupid, "Your life is about to change" "You'll never sleep again" comments (I assume largely because I have as yet largely only told people close to me who aren't idiots) but am so prepared to shoot them down I am almost looking forward to them...!
I genuinely would love twins, and I do have some idea of the extra work from family and friends. I'm assured that it isn't twice the work, more like 1.5 times the work, and personally I think it would be worth it for the cuteness/in-built best friends/supreme efficiency of having two children for the price of one maternity leave. One friend has the most adorable outfits for her baby twin boys, eg Buzz Lightyear and Woody...I would totally be that mother!
I do think it can be more difficult if the twins aren't your first children, eg if you have a toddler and then twins, which is why I had my fingers crossed for twins first go!
