willisurvive wow, what a lovely scan! So pleased you're starting to feel more excited. You can do it!

cautious my bible for pregnancy can-I-or-can't-I questions is Expecting Better by Emily Oster. She looks at all the actual evidence for things like caffeine, alcohol, foods, exercise etc, and draws very sensible conclusions. I can't remember exactly what she says - happy to dig out book and screen shot if anyone wants - but based on reading that I will have as much caffeine as I want, within reason, obv - I'm talking a few teas a day max (though I've been mostly having decaf as I've been feeling sick) and with alcohol if I really fancy it I will absolutely have a mulled wine or a small champagne etc.

estrele your MW is being unnecessarily strict!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 26/10/2017 08:53

willisurvive those are amazing pictures!! I'm glad you're starting to feel a bit excited about twins too!

Re alcohol - I may have the odd glass here and there, but I'm not missing it as much this time around. It'll be odd to have xmas without some mulled wine though - I guess we'll have to start sharing our best mulled apple juice recipes! If anyone wants some good decaf tea, I've found the clipper stuff (ordered on Amazon as it's way cheaper than in supermarkets) is really good. I've been drinking it for years now and love it.

Elvi1 · 26/10/2017 10:00

I haven't fancied any alcohol over the last month as I've felt so sick and I didn't particularly miss it in my last pregnancy, but I'll also probably have the odd glass here and there. It's traditional in my family to have a snowball at Christmas and Christmas isn't Christmas without a mulled wine 🍷. Talk of Christmas makes me want to go out and buy my ingredient for my Christmas puddings right now! (If I wasn't feeling so blimmin sick!).

HerSymphonyAndSong · 26/10/2017 10:22

I have gone off alcohol anyway, but if that improves I will have a glass occasionally

In Expecting Better she indicates that it’s the quantity drunk in one sitting that may be more of a concern than the quantity over the whole pregnancy. So a bottle of wine drunk over the course of a week might be ok but not a bottle of wine in one evening iyswim (your mileage may vary)

LadyPug · 26/10/2017 10:46

Completely off alcohol here, last time I had half a glass of fizz at a friends wedding when I was full term but I wasn’t pregnant at Christmas last time. This time I’ll probably have a small glass of fizz on Christmas Day and one on New Year’s Eve and that will be it! I’m not a big drinker normally but right now even the thought of it is gross, first trimester does funny things to you doesn’t it!

timeisnotaline · 26/10/2017 11:34

Clipper tea noted. Will be very happy for some hot mulled apple juice recipes, I will have some mulled wine but obv very moderately! What is a snowball?

I couldn't drink any of these things right now but looking forward to getting into 2nd trimester and enjoying a cup of tea again :)

Whatamuddleduck · 26/10/2017 12:26

DP and my friends are happily benefitting from me not drinking. We have a spate of weddings and I appear to be the designated driver. I'll have an occasional sip of DP's beer but otherwise not fussed.
That is unless the bean starts demanding beer. It's already got me to give up tomato sauce and demands baked potatoes. Anyone else at the mercy of their cravings?

Haha Elvi, one of my favourite Xmas memories is my then boyfriend propping my Mum up around my hometown as she went on a hunt for advocaat as he'd never had a snowball. He's somehow my husband now and I'm not sure he's had one since!

Decaf Yorkshire tea and Redbush tea are also both good.

cautiousoptimist1 · 26/10/2017 12:32

muddleduck, I didn't have any cravings last time but this time I just had to have cottage cheese (which I'm not especially fond of, have not eaten it since I left home!), I bought crackers to go with it but really wanted to just eat it with a spoon. The only version they had was with sweet chilli in and it looked disgusting but satisfied the craving.

cautiousoptimist1 · 26/10/2017 12:33

I developed an aversion to brown rice last time. My DD is now 16 months and I still can't eat it.

Goldie1234 · 26/10/2017 12:43

Hello everyone ! Hoping to join you guys ? Due 1st / 2nd May, with baby from first round IVF following a MMC earlier this year... so keeping everything crossed all the time !

Had a lovely scan this week (have had heaps of reassurance scans, too, as Ive been super anxious. We just went to our hospital EPU and they're free!) all looking perfect with the baby and the doc thinks it's a girl !!! So if anyone is still due there 12 week scan be sure to pester them for a gender if you'd like to know. I was only a day or two off being 13 weeks when they did the scan so that might have helped.

Glad everyone here is doing well, even with some normal anxiety and surprises ! And so nice seeing all the scan pics! Especially twins eeks !

Ladypug- a reassurance scan will make you feel so much better, much better than worrying all the time!

Time - I've been prescribed laxido to keep everything moving. And a glass of prune juice every morning helps! But I'm uncomfortable all the time, too!

Good to hear everyone is looking forward to a glass of bubbly at Christmas ! Makes me feel a bit sick thinking of it now ha but might have changed my mind by then !

Needmorehands · 26/10/2017 13:42

What beautiful clear pictures willisurvive :) I'm glad you're starting to feel excited now.
I work in a coffee shop so am actually really surprised that no-one has said anything about my massively reduced caffeine intake! still not drinking decaf though! And I certainly will be enjoying the odd glass of mulled wine at Christmas, probably lower alcohol content than my Christmas cake tbh :D

LadyPug · 26/10/2017 14:36

Lovely pictures iwillsurvive glad you’re feeling more excited about it all, I think it’s just the shock isn’t it?

I have so many cravings (namely breadsticks with pickled onions) plus as many jacket potatoes as I can eat, ham and mustard and fresh orange juice with pulpy bits in it (had identical cravings last time so think it’s another girl!)

Welcome Goldie and thank you, yes I’m so pleased I’ve booked it - although nervous as it gets closer! Congrats on your pregnancy!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 26/10/2017 14:46

Feeling grim these last couple of days. I think it might be the flu jab making nausea worse

CaptainsCat · 26/10/2017 16:00

Had my 12 week scan today, one little baby with a little heartbeat Smile I've not been posting here much yet, I hardly believed I was pregnant until today, despite terrible sickness which only now seems to be tailing off! My due date has been made earlier too, due on 7th May now!

Elvi1 · 26/10/2017 16:16

Welcome Goldie. The sonographer offered to guess the gender for our first child at our 12-13 week scan (although we declined).

Haha cautious that experience must have made him think I must marry into this family! Not many people know what a snowball is (advocate and cream soda) and I have definitely had mixed reactions when I've tried to share our tradition with my friends and husband. But yeah, the thought of drinking makes me feel very ill at the moment!

Interested to know where people are based? I'm in London.

Whatamuddleduck · 26/10/2017 17:05

Cautious- every thing on your list is exactly what I want to eat, except the pickles. I bloody love pickles but little bean doesn't want anything with vinegar. Sat eating a net of baby bell- yum! After eating baked potato and a whole pot of cottage cheese for lunch. I wonder what the need for potatoes is about? Just carbs maybe?

Ive been getting little stinging pains in my abdomen all afternoon. Hopefully just every thing stretching. Some of the anxiety is back after feeling reassured by 12 week scan. So looking forward to feeling movement to I can stress less!

Poppy012 · 26/10/2017 17:08

I’m mad on jackets too at the min! Also having a few stretching pains, I suffer with hay fever all year round and whenever i sneeze get a terrible pain on my right side I’m sure I’ve pulled something literally have to hold my tummy or it’s so painful 😫

MegsMog · 26/10/2017 17:12

Elvi I'm London too, south west.

whatamuddle I've been thinking a lot about sushi. Like, spending time ogling sushi menus online Blush DH allergic to fish so it's not a craving that's very easy to indulge in, I've had rubbish M&S sushi a few times when going past but I need to sort myself out some time with a pile of tuna sashimi...

LadyPug · 26/10/2017 17:13

Sorry you’re feeling crap yoursymphony hopefully it gets better, got my flu jab in December, that’ll be fun! Haha!

Hooray on the 12 week scan captainscat I can’t wait for my scan and to start feeling better!

Elvi1 · 26/10/2017 18:04

Megs I'm in SE and with Kings (all going well!)

MegsMog · 26/10/2017 18:12

elvi ahh lovely! I'm under tommies but planning for a home birth (I self-referred to them as their home birth community team are ace, otherwise I think I'd have chosen a slightly closer hospital as it's a bit of a trek - only just in catchment!)

timeisnotaline · 26/10/2017 18:26

Advocaat and soda. I bet it will be delicious and my dh will down multiple in front of me grrr.

Thanks goldie ahem turns out the lactulose did the trick and I was up and most uncomfortable half the night Blush. And up the other half with my 2 year old, who had the nerve to pass out about 6:30 am and do nothing but scream and cry and try to attack me when I had to get him up. Zzzz

timeisnotaline · 26/10/2017 18:30

I'm in London, north London though by the way. I have booked a scan for Saturday when I'll be 10 weeks, I need the reassurance before telling work and I'm really struggling there so would like to explain myself!

Elvi1 · 26/10/2017 18:34

Ah cool! I like the idea of a home birth but I had a good experience at the Kings mid-wife led suite last time so I think I will opt for that again.
