Lets get started!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BeachBunni · 23/04/2007 12:55

Ha ha skidaddle so the choices are no sex b/c of thrush or no sex b/c of stinky garlic pong. Well I did say I'd try anything
Has anyone else got dates for their 12wk scan? Doctor told me I've a higher chance of ectopic so would get called early. Now in 8th wk and running for post every day only to be disppointed when bills, statements, junk mail. Seriously considering paying for a private scan as sick of worrying over every ache and pain. Should I mention to the doc tomorrow or is it out of his hands now? Sorry 1st pg and totally clueless.

BeansterMum · 23/04/2007 13:28

lucky you beachbunni for a) having the energy and b) the inclination to even think about having sex

As for talking to the Doc - definitely, that's what they are there for. You could always ask for the phone number of the MW and at least then you will have someone to ask (other that MN of course) or discuss your concerns with. If you're already in the system, just talking to someone from your MW team may advance things a tad too?

BeachBunni · 23/04/2007 13:41

Unfortunately I have the inclination for sex by my dp doesn't
The doc didn't even mention mws to me. Just printed off a sheet on planning to get pregnant (bit late now) told me my EDD and what hospital I would be going to. Not sure what way our care works in N. Ireland but think I will def say to him tomorrow as planning to visit my parents in Spain soon and don't want to be panicking the whole time.

thelady · 23/04/2007 14:06

Lucy, if you click the little 'flip' link at the top, the order is reversed, but you have to do it each time you load a discussion....

Lucy1977 · 23/04/2007 15:46

Thanks theLady, much better!

where is your hotel? (understand you wont want to say exactly just wondering if close to Glasgow or Edinburgh or up in the Highlands etc.

BeachBunni Not sure if this is the same in all countries but in Scotland we can choose which hospital to give birth in. I didn't realise until I met my now-good-friend who's a midwife at a postnatal group after having DD.

Newsflash - scanning dept just called me again and said my dating scan has been moved to 4th May! Oh, now I'm panicking - having similar worries to Skidaddle.

Lucy

Nbg · 23/04/2007 15:48

Thats good Lucy!
Surely you feel some sort of relief?

Lucy1977 · 23/04/2007 16:00

Nbg - yes I am glad that I'll (hopefully) see the wee bubba a wk on Friday but I remember how terribly nervous I was at the scans with DD. I need to think more positively.

How's everyone doing?

Lucy

skidaddle · 23/04/2007 16:08

Hi Lucy,

I know what you mean - you've been impatient to have the scan and now it's almost here it suddenly becomes a bit daunting. It will be so wonderful when you've actually had it though and you KNOW everything is fine.

I'm still worrying about my lack of symptoms - I don't know if the gp will have one those things to hear the baby's heartbeat - or if that's even possible so early (I'm 8+3) so would it be better to go and see the mw? I almost don't want to go in case it is bad news and then today would be the last day that I'd thought I was having a baby IYKWIM. But then again it will probably be good news and I can relax and enjoy my ms-less pregnancy.

Best of luck with yours anyway - 2nd May is only a week and a bit away!!

Nbg · 23/04/2007 16:11

Skidaddle, sorry to dash your hopes but you'll be lucky if they use a doppler on you.

Theres a very very slim chance you'll hear anything.
Try to relax as best you can. Have you got any plans this week?
I know its hard as it seems to take over all your thoughts doesnt it.

skidaddle · 23/04/2007 16:15

so is the only way to find out that all is OK to have an early scan? Can you request one on the NHS or do you have to pay?

Ambi · 23/04/2007 16:29

Wow scan chat already, feel ages away for me, but that's ok. Can barely stay awake at the mo, went to bed at 8pm on sat (saddo) was up at 3.30am starving. Putting weight back on at an alarming rate (eating like a bloody horse has summat to do with it, me thinks ) trousers that were very loose 2 weeks ago, now fit snugly!!

Got booking in appt on Weds, looking forward to it, liking the thinking behind the dating chat earlier, makes me feel further along, ie in 7th week instead 6&4, will use that in future..

Still no ms, hurrah, sorry if you've got it! Feel a little unwell now but only cos I ate a little too much for lunch..eyes bigger than belly and all that (although the damn belly is catching up!!)

Finding it really difficult keeping it a secret as it's our first and want to tell everyone (nothing exciting happens with us very often!!)

Hopefully will have sold my MX5 this week, loved that damned sports car, but onwards and upwards to different stage of our lives...

mrsdarcy · 23/04/2007 16:38

Skidaddle - they can't hear the baby's heartbeat with a sonicaid until the 2nd trimester. The only way to find out at this stage if things are ok is to do a scan, which they usually do vaginally as they get a better picture of the baby.

I saw our lovely midwife today so am officially booked in. She agreed with "normal" care, so I'll see the consultant and have a dating scan in about a month, then back to see the midwife at 16 weeks. So fron the medical point of view things are going to be pretty quiet for a while over here, which suits me fine.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok today.

skidaddle · 23/04/2007 16:56

Thanks Mrsdarcy, feeling a bit calmer now that I've talked to a lovely officemate who assured me it was all fine, rather than scaremonger officemates who told me to go straight to the docs!! Will try to stay positive and wait until the 12wk scan.. and pray for some ms

Glad you decided on 'normal' care - I hope it makes the whole experience more relaxing for you, and great you've got a lovely midwife. I had the most brilliant mw ever last time and it made such a difference.

fifisworld · 23/04/2007 16:56

This thread is very busy its so hard to keep up, especially as i seem to spend most of my time asleep lately.
Im struggling with staying awake long enough to get things done. Im up for work at 5.30 out the house with ds at 7,back home at 4 then sorting the house and back in bed by 8,so i made the most of the weekend and got as much sleep packed in as i could.
Ive got my booking in appointment on wed. Im going to ask if i can get a scan any earlier than 12 weeks as im going on holiday and dont want to be worried while im away. Also im worried incase im having twins i seemed to have totally bloated out already.

skidaddle · 23/04/2007 16:57

ambi at your belly catching up with your eyes!! I know the feeling...

BeachBunni · 23/04/2007 17:04

Oh good luck everyone with their scans
Yes Lucy I did get a choice between two hospitals but one doesn't have a unit for sick babies - the name escapes me now - and I'd be too concerned if something went wrong. So I'm giving birth in the same hospital I was born in!
I know it's not the done thing Ambi but we've already told people just warned them it's early days so anything can happen. Didn't have much choice in the matter actually. Had two friends loudly quiery infront of everyone if I was pg as I wasn't drinking at parties. Our grins kind of gave the game away. We're not superstitious anyway and I feel more relaxed now it's out in the open.

Lucy1977 · 23/04/2007 17:18

Skidaddle, yes you can get early scans on the NHS (my dating scan is NHS as my LMP isn't definate). I had an early scan with DD as I'd just come of the pill and had bad pains so went to the Doctor and he told me to phone the Early Pregnancy Unit at a local hospital and they told me to go in the next day for a scan.

Fifisworld, I work Tues-Thurs and find it hard to catch up on the thread then!

Glad your appointment went well MrsDarcy.

Ambi - he hee, enjoy over eating when you feel like it, I remember towards the end of my pregnancy with DD i couldn't only eat tiny meals as my bump was so big!

Lucy

Nbg · 23/04/2007 17:21

I'd post a pic of my scan photo but for some reason it wont let me upload onto my profile

Skidaddle, if you have a good research, you might be able to fnd a cheapish scanning place.

Caz10 · 23/04/2007 18:43

Goodness what a busy day on here! I'm guessing most of you have access at work? It's probably best that I don't..("boys and girls please get on with your work quietly while your teacher obsesses over mumsnet...")!!

YES to eyes bigger than belly, with belly catching up fast. At the moment all I seem to do is sleep, eat and work. Only stop feeling sick when I eat so am just doing it as much as possible! Trying to be healthy but really just feel like eating stodge all the time.

Scans seem a long way off for me too. Doc said it would be AROUND 12 weeks - well I'm thinking that could be anything from 10-14 and there is a whole month of a difference in there! Glad my midwife apt is at 9 weeks, as I want to chat to her re CVC etc too.

My friend was in at the Nuffield for complicated "feminine" issues and said it was wonderful.

Don't know if I have already said this, but I have told 2 close friends, and without being pessimistic, I picked them on the basis that they will be v supportive if I do m/c. I think it would be too hard to handle if only Dh and I had know we were pregnant to start with. Have told mum for the same reason.

Hope everyone is well, and as it's only 7pm, not long till pregnant ladies' bedtime ha ha!

Caz10 · 23/04/2007 18:43

D'oh that should be CVS

mad4girls · 23/04/2007 19:05

hi guys sorry ive been quiet but thought id let the dust settle over weekend

hope everyone well been busy on here today

i went to docs on thrus and she said there were no mw apt until june, which she said was too long to wait as we have a 10 wk scan here,

and that has to be booked by the mw about a fortnight before which takes us to three wks away as i think i around 7 wk now

she said a mw would ring me back by tomrrow and havent heard owt yet so hopefully nt too long as want to arrange round school holidays as kids dont know yet and there is noone to have kids,

my ms is in regular pattern now once in morning and then im fine for breakfast.

peanutbutter · 23/04/2007 19:17

hello everyone!

well i've been to the Drs and it was so nice to be talking about referring me for my booking in appointments and whatnot. After questioning me a bit she said it's highly likely i'm around 6 weeks (had a mc in March and no period since, so it's hard to work out exactly). I feel happy enough with that, so that's what we'll go on for now.

It was soooooooo stressful in the clinic though. They're having building works so there's only a tiny corridor packed with hardbacked chairs for a waiting area at the moment - ds wouldn't sit on my knee and just wanted to run up and down. When they called my name I took my eye off him for 2 seconds while I picked up our coats and bags and heard an almighty crash - he'd pulled the CD player off the windowsill by the power lead hanging down!! I could feel my cheeks burning as everyone was looking, and a bead of sweat trickling down my side under my blouse....To top it off, ds had diarrhoea in his nappy and the smell was revolting. I think the whole surgery collectively breathed a sigh of relief once we'd gone

My due date is 20th December

cazzybabs · 23/04/2007 21:15

oh peanut butter that is just the sort of the thing that frequently happens to me...

this is not as but am supposed to be organising the enternaiment for dd and another dd's joint party. But in between ms, exhaustern and inspection never got round to confirming it and now they are booked for that date . Oh god now have to fess up to toher mum who has multiple children and is a world famous scientist....

FurryFox · 23/04/2007 21:37

Hi all, can't believe how much I've missed in just a couple of days.

Welcome to the new girls and congratulations

Hope everyone is ok, have tried to have a read though all the posts I've missed.

As some of you may remember had some brown discharge last week. On Saturday had a bit of bright red blood, rang the hospital and they said not to worry as can be quite common and I wasn't having any pain but if it got worse or any pain to ring back. Anyway was fine the rest of Saturday but on Sunday had more bleeding and a little bit more than before. Also just didn't feel pg anymore, didn't feel tired and boobs weren't sore so obviously thought the worse. So, went to the docs this morning to get a referal letter for a scan. Had felt sick all day but thought it was just nerves. Had scan at 4pm. The sac and yolk were both there but as quite early in pg decided to do an internal scan. Was a bit worried about it but it was fine. Found a heartbeat almost straight away so very relieved. They thought there might be a little area where the bleeding was coming from but nothing to worry about. I'm measuring 5+3 which is roughly what we thought and my EDD is 14th December Am still having a bit of brown discharge but trying not to worry about it too much as she said it would be old blood anyway.

Sorry for looooong post, just wanted to update you all Hope you're all well
