Brilliant news stationary, newbie and mrs crocopop good to hear how much you're enjoying your squishy newborns Smile

Today has been a bit emotional, I was prepared to go with my body and baby but not so much to make a decision about induction with my head! Savage I've read the evidence based birth website about induction vs waiting and it was really helpful. Still not totally settled on what to do tomorrow if they have space for us to go in but do feel that after a long walk and chat with DP we'll be able to discuss and decide in the morning.

Meanwhile, here is some duckling eating posh lettuce they are seriously costing us a small fortune after today's outdoor messy play session spam. They're getting feathers Grin

@1004rise last time I thought it was weird that I was transferred to the antenatal ward in a wheelchair holding my just newly squeezed out baby, yet once there they insisted that baby could only be moved rooms via the wheeled cot. My bed was next to the loo but still remember panicking at having to leave her alone for 2 mins after dh went home.

This time we got to stay in the labour ward in our own room and discharged after 6 hours. Further to walk to the loo but no silent fights with neighbouring bays over curtains/visitor space etc.

Brightsmoke · 14/05/2017 19:10

Congratulations Stationary, Newbie and Crocopop, lovely news to read and catch up on :)

Good luck with the decision tomorrow Dream, I've been struggling with induction vs waiting, but I am so stressed with the waiting, I'm going for induction, and it's a relief now I know the end is finally in sight! Ducklings are just adorable, such fluffy cuties.

Thanks for baby spam Rise and Jenny, very cute babies.

Good luck to everyone getting twinges, fingers crossed for you all!

1 full day to go before my induction, though I'm sure I will meet baby on Thursday, it's been this stubborn so far I'm sure it's going to continue and take the max time at induction too 😂

savagehk · 14/05/2017 19:44

Good luck dream!

I think you're supposed to ask a midwife/nurse to come babysit while you go wee/shower. My notes last time mention that (for instance) I declined to get out of bed until Mr SHK came back to the hospital. There was no way I was going to go shower and leave my baby in a third-person's care (plus I wasn't sure I could move my legs yet, I had such a massive epidural it took ages for sensation to return).

Sipperskipper · 14/05/2017 20:34

Wishing those booked / thinking about inductions in the next couple of days all the best.

Badgerbird · 14/05/2017 20:34

Wow coming thick and fast! Big congratulations newbie mrscroc and stationary! Smile

sunflower glad ctg was ok and as I was saying to raspberry at least you get to see their little face on scan again. Stressful though Brew

fox mine have decided I'm only allowed £27 a week MA Envy Gotta appeal especially as I've been earning pretty well and I paid any outstanding NI (they'd taken test period during time before tax return due!) just 2 weeks or so ago. So annoying!

Good luck on your decision making dream. You can only do what you feel is best at the time :)

teainbed · 14/05/2017 21:00

@Badgerbird I had to pay some extra NI to get the full MA, but initially was told it was £27 too. The NICs were only £40ish. A letter came from HMRC a few days later.

teainbed · 14/05/2017 21:01

Sorry it was next years NICs I had to pay in advance.

lullaby23 · 14/05/2017 21:18

Congratulations newbie stationary & mrscroco lovely to hear of more new arrivals ❤️❤️❤️

MrsJW15 · 14/05/2017 21:22

Congratulations Stationary and MrsCrocopop

Walked a lot today and have had some tightening feelings low down. Hoping this goes somewhere...

Also spent some time in a friend's hot tub this afternoon which was a relief from discomfort! Even though I had to keep getting out to avoid getting to hot.

Rabbitykins55 · 14/05/2017 22:12

Another arrival this morning! A boy! Will post story etc later when things are settled down. Smile

CoxsOrangePippin · 14/05/2017 22:36

rabbity that's wonderful! Congrats.

Badgerbird · 14/05/2017 22:39

Yeah I wouldn't mind tea but I've already done that but they don't seem to have caught up yet! Confused

Oh wow rabbity congratulations! Smile

teainbed · 14/05/2017 22:58

Yes it took them about a week to get the second letter to me @Badgerbird how long has it been? They were helpful when I phoned them.

teainbed · 14/05/2017 22:58

Congratulations @Rabbitykins55 !

1004Rise · 14/05/2017 23:50

Congratulations @Rabbitykins55 !!!

I can only conclude the people I'm sharing a ward with are weird... all 3 have disappeared somewhere else and left their babies for at least 15 minute stretches (not altogether, at least I don't think so Hmm)

Oh we've discovered cluster feeding Confused

lullaby23 · 15/05/2017 01:16

Congratulations rabbity!

That is abit strange rise I suppose midwives are a bit stretched to stand guard while you have a shower but I would be a bit worried about leaving a newborn! I will have my own room and loo but think I'll shower when DH is visiting.

newbieho · 15/05/2017 06:35

Congratulations @jennymac31 @stationaryace @mrscrocopop @Rabbitykins55
on your little ones arrival. Apologies if I have missed anyone Blush

Squishy picture @1004Rise 😍

Hope the tests go OK @ClaireSunflower

Thank tou for the links @teainbed to the articles, very helpful

@dreamofhungarianlanterns your ducklings are ♥️ please keep us posted

Sonnet18 · 15/05/2017 06:48

Oh wow! More babies! Congratulations everyone! This is so lovely to wake up to!

Weird about leaving babies on the ward. I didn't do that at all and only left when dh was there from what I remember.

So I'm still pregnant. Got my sweep later today (if cervix is favourable) though just don't have a good feeling about it... I am starting to feel a bit like the oldest kid at summer camp here...still hanging on...

newbieho · 15/05/2017 06:52

Thanks for good wishes everyone. Baby and I are on postnatal ward due to the assisted delivery checks. I need to leave him on his own while going to the loo next door and getting the tray with meals but I am taking a shower only when DH is visiting. Could not leave the little one on his own for so long. Midwives on postnatal ward are helpful but super busy. Plenty of babies arrived over the last couple of days.

Baby has been struggling with breastfeeding positioning but it looks like we are making a progress. Fingers crossed x

Couple of observations in case anyone is interested:

  • disposable knickers are a godsend (I have got lady tena) as you can just throw them away
  • as mentioned before you really need big maternity pads (at least at the beginning)
  • take the painkillers offered as afterpains/ stitches can hurt
  • it feels superb to be able to bend again and be heartburn - free
  • meconium is tricky to take off from the baby's bottom but cotton pad and water are the best, no need to use fancy wipes
  • if you want to breastfeed don't be shy asking BF counsellor (if there is one available) for help. I found them more knowledgeable then midwives on the ward.
newbieho · 15/05/2017 06:53

And hope those of you who feel twinges/ cervix stabbings are going to feel better soon. Hang on there girls, the babies are on their way Smile

ClaireSunflower · 15/05/2017 07:04

Glad to hear you and baby are well @newbieho and it sounds like you are doing great Smile and thanks for the advice, hopefully they will let you go home soon.

So exciting there have been so many babies in the last few days! 39+1 today here and no signs this baby is coming any time soon. Woke up at 4.30am today. I'm actually looking forward to being woken up by the baby as at least I'll be up for a reason and not just from hip pain and insomnia!

Autumnsweater · 15/05/2017 07:06

Weird about people leaving their babies on the ward Rise?!

Have just realised don't have a nappy bin for nursery... What kind of size should I get? Assume will be emptied very regularly and just used as quick stash for night changes etc...

All getting very real reading about everyone's babies.. I've a gut feeling mine will be overdue and won't be for a few weeks though.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 15/05/2017 07:13

Congratulations rabbity! Thanks for the advice newbie hopefully bright and I will be making use of it very soon. Bright you sound like having a decision made has really cheered you up, really pleased. I have woken up feeling excited, all the baby news, pics and good wishes has definitely helped thank you Smile

PeachIcedT · 15/05/2017 07:23

Thank you for that advice @newbieho. I hope you are comfortable and can be discharged before too long. Glad to hear you are making BF progress.

Congratulations to @Rabbitykins55 on your baby, hope you are recovering well.

There certainly has been a baby arrival influx recently which is great! I love hearing all the news. At 40+1 I can't help but thinking I've got a while yet. Getting to the point where I'm a bit too apprehensive about wandering too far away on my own.
