5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Bawbles I will also check out kindred bravely. My bust has not increased in anyway yet but the boobs are more sensitive so these soft bras are great. I am still wearing 36C/D.

OP posts:
wildone81 · 08/05/2017 18:10

How do you know what size bra's to get though?!

mynameisntLinda · 08/05/2017 18:44

wildone81 I went to an independent bra shop in my town and got fitted for one, they suggested being able to fit a small fist in the cup as that's often how much they grow.
I went from a 32DD to a 34G by the time I had milk. And I'm a 32FF now so they've not changed back down much but I doubt they'll get much bigger. I didnt keep amy of my old bras though and after a while I went back to normal bras and just pulled the cup down when feeding so I only ever had 3 feeding bras.
I'm not wearing maternity bras now. Just been properly fitted so no risk of causing mastitis etc.
Try the boob or bust facebook page they're excellent.

Bawbles · 08/05/2017 19:58

Linda I just bought new 'normal' bras when I boobs grew this pregnancy. I'm usually a 32ff but currently 34g. I find most maternity bras just press my boobs together uncomfortably Hmm

I'll get fitted for feeding bras at 37 weeks ish, prob just get two and will use the stretchy/comfy ones for night time or if everything is in the wash

Seahawk80 · 09/05/2017 07:22

@wildone81 my sister has had 2 sections and said maxi dresses are the best thing to wear afterwards.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I might pack my bag today. 32 weeks now and had second growth scan yesterday and baby is
still mr/miss average so that's good.

Notyetthere · 09/05/2017 08:06

Sea damned I have a few comfy maxi dresses but none of them have easily accessible boobage top part.

ButterflyFree · 09/05/2017 08:07

Thanks for all the bra recommendations ladies - so far I've just been living in cotton racer-back crop-tops from Calvin Klein and PrettyLittleThing (especially comfy for sleeping), but I'll be needing a bit more structural support than that soon enough as I'm now up to a 34E...

I've developed a pattern of having one awful night's sleep followed by an excellent one, usually because I'm so tired from the bad night that I'm comatose by the next one! Baby seems to be at that stage where he's still small enough to have plenty of room to wiggle about A LOT, but also big enough to make his every move veryyyyy strongly felt. I could only manage about 3 hours on and off last night as he was so active. Felt like he was about to burst out the side of my tummy!

Off for another 4D scan today - will be interesting to compare the clarity with the one we had at 20 weeks. Can't wait to see his little face again 😍

TinklingTheIvories · 09/05/2017 09:17

Just sat in the hospital having had my first bloods for the glucose tolerance test. Haven't eaten in what feels like forever. Can't eat until I've had some more bloods done in a few hours.

Maxi dress sounds like a plan. Nice and light too for July when it'll be hot! Started planning the hospital bags last night, just making some lists based on what others have got. Can't believe how real it's all getting!!

ButterflyFree · 09/05/2017 09:24

I've ordered this maxi nursing dress from ASOS - seems simple and practical. I'm thinking it might be a good option for leaving the hospital in, especially as it's black!

Just picked this up on eBay!

There's a particular dress by Seraphine I'm after but it's pricey so I thought I'd try out a bit of a bargain first and see if they're worth the hype. Looks sooo comfy though and it's nursing so can be used afterwards too.

That dress is so pretty@ButterflyFree

Bawbles · 09/05/2017 17:04

I love that dress glitters!

Butterfly I bought similar from ASOS but hadn't considered taking for hospital - great idea!

Just had health visitor round, she stayed over 1.5 hours. Seemed lovely, had a good chat.

glitterglitters · 09/05/2017 17:14

Thanks @Bawbles Grin

mynameisntLinda · 09/05/2017 17:19

bawbles yeah I agree. And the maternity ones were just so unflattering..and that was before my boobs turned into a big floppy mess Confused
I never wore a bra at night, and don't wear 8one now either. Just a vest top...although I have accidentally squashed a nipple between the mattress and an arm a few times which hurts like hell lol. I found just having a vest top was easier for night time feeding and I only really leaked in a morning so used to put breast pads in my vest and hope it caught some milk (which sometimes it didn't so I got a soggy vest haha)
butterfly that looks like a nice dress.

VickyTheStitch · 09/05/2017 19:26

Lovely dress glitterglitters. I might have a look on eBay and see what nursing tops etc I could get.

Am 32 weeks today and went to see midwife. (Should have been last week but she only comes to my GP practice every fortnight). Baby is spot on in size but he's breech at the moment. So ideally need him to turn before the next appointment in a fortnight otherwise she said I'll have to go for a scan and consider ways of turning him.

Went through my hospital bag this evening and I think I've got everything except an old nightshirt for during labour. I went and got rid of a load of clothes including old t-shirts etc before I fell pregnant. Might go and get a cheap nightie or oversized t-shirt from Primark. I have a proper nursing nightie and dressing gown to wear after he's arrived.

Will do go through baby's hospital bag tomorrow I think.

mynameisntLinda · 09/05/2017 20:14

Don't worry too much vicky there's loads of time for baby to turn yet. I think there's a group on Facebook called spinning babies which I've heard others talk about in a homebirth group in on. As long as they're not feet first then breech isn't the end of the world. Hopefully he'll spin round for you though to make things easier xx

ButterflyFree · 09/05/2017 20:40

Funnily enough I was just reading about baby positions in the womb on the Spinning Babies website - spinningbabies.com/learn-more/baby-positions/other-fetal-positions/sidewaystransverse/ - because from the 4D scan today the sonographer was a bit surprised that baby is still in a transverse lie at this stage! But reading their page, I don't think I have anything to be concerned about for at least another 3-4 weeks...

glitterglitters · 09/05/2017 20:57

I know of people who were being prepped for a c-section and then the baby turned literally at the last second 🙊

I remember feeling dd1 turn at about 36ish weeks. It was the most bizarre feeling ever.

mynameisntLinda · 09/05/2017 21:57

At 40+1 ds1 wasn't fully engaged and I only knew when giving birth (at 41+1) that he actually had his arm folded over his head and came out facing up (back to back). I don't want to know babys position once i get near the end, i think it might just give me something to worry about that I shouldn't be worrying about if that makes sense.

Bawbles · 10/05/2017 10:20

I've had midwife this morning, 31+4 and measuring 34weeks. I was two weeks ahead at last appointment too so baby is following same line. Nice strong heartbeat and head is low down so feeling quite reassured today.

Vicky there's plenty of time for baby to move yet. If baby doesn't look into the pros and cons of allowing the consultant to turn them as it's not for everyone and there are other options to try such as chiropractic care.

Kitsandkids · 10/05/2017 12:04

Hello all. I've been to a sling library session today to look into how to use slings. Think I know what I'm doing with a stretchy wrap now but I think I'll buy one rather than pay each month to hire.

To be honest I wasn't very impressed with the group. The organisers didn't speak to you unless you spoke to them and the demos were so quick I wouldn't have known what I was doing if I hadn't asked her to show me specifically how to use the wrap. I am quite shy by nature but can push myself forward when I need to but I felt sorry for other shy mums who might not have had the confidence. So I'd rather buy and not go back.

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 12:26

That's such a shame @Kitsandkids Sad I guess it's really luck of the draw with these things, often as they are run independently.

The stretchy wraps are brilliant for those early days (only way I got stuff done around 3-6 weeks including using the toilet!!)

Notyetthere · 10/05/2017 17:35

Bawbles glad your midwife appointment went well. At my 31wks appointment baby's head was down but I have since had so much movement that I reckon she is transverse. I will have to wait till next week to find out st 34wk appointment.

The thing about turning the baby, I was completely put off by the methods available to turn the baby at the hospital. The list of what could happen with regards to stressing the baby put me right off. I guess I need to talk through the methods with my midwife for some reassurance or else I opt for a csection if baby really is breach.

We received our pram yesterday and the car seat today. Very pleased with it, easily manoeuvrable even with one hand. Carry cot seems to be smaller than I expected so I don't anticipate we will use till 6 months as it says on uppababy website. We can however use the carrycot for overnight sleeping which I guess could be useful in the early days and also use downstairs during the day. I told dh yo take it outside and test it out but he didn't want to get any dirt on the wheelsGrin

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 10/05/2017 17:38

On the subject of stretchy wraps, how is it using them in the summer months? A friend lent me hers and I have practiced using it by watching you tube videos but I reckon it could get very warm having a baby tied to you?

OP posts:
Spindelina · 10/05/2017 18:40

Very warm indeed, notyet. It's OK if you are happy in just a bra and nappy between you (so round the house) or in a vest top for going out.

I found SSC best last time (also July baby). But not the ergo (the newborn insert is basically a quilt).
