5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

I used a stretchy with ds1 and that was june-july and found it ok. I just wore a vest top and treated the wrap as if it was a layer of clothing. Baby was just in a babygro or cotton sleep suit. Was great for dog walking and dh used it a couple of times too.
Once he was bigger I switched to a ring sling but the one sidedness made me ache once he was bigger.
All mine were eBay cheapies just search palm and pond.

natienka · 10/05/2017 21:45

Not sure anyone suggested that yet but there's homeopathic remedies to turn babies, as well as acupuncture and reflexology.

I'm totally freaking out about baby clothes... How many of each?! I've got all sizes already but maybe not enough? And where can I get a newborn summer hat that my baby won't drown in?

wildone81 · 10/05/2017 22:20

Sun hats, I hadn't even thought about sun hats Shock

Notyetthere · 11/05/2017 08:13

Sun hats weren't on my radar! I think I will buy one once baby is here.

We are told to monitor babies movements and if the pattern changes or reduces to call it in and get checked. I had increased movement last night that I could not sleep. She moved vigorously all night from when I went to bed till 5am. It felt like she would tear out of my skin at any time. I have never had this amount of movement before. It feels like she has not rested I'm the last 10 hrs. In fact she is moving now. Anybody have this kind of change?

After writing a blog post yesterday about how utterly unprepared and disorganised I am, having still not purchased a single baby-related item yet...

DH came home last night with a completely unused rose gold/camel flair Mima Xari 3-in-1 travel system!! Gifted by one of his teammates, who was about to throw it, because his wife never took their baby out in it in the hot Dubai weather and by the time she was finally ready to brave the outdoors with her little one he'd already outgrown the pram. What a stroke of luck! Saved us a good £1400 or so. At last I feel like we at least have SOMETHING for the baby 😅

Twixes · 11/05/2017 08:45

Hi ladies,
Hope you're all keeping well.

Love the maxi dress posted upthread, unfortunately maxi dresses are hideous on me because I'm way to short but I'm envious of those who can pull them off :-/

I've now sorted all my newborn and 0-3 month baby clothes and I think all I need are a couple more 0-3 months and I'm sorted :) Well...sorted for clothes...I have a mountain of other things to do but I'm sure it'll all come together.

I wouldn't worry about sunhats too much, the likelihood of your baby being in direct sunlight is probably pretty slim. If you're outside you'll most likely have him/her in her carry cot with a sun canopy up :)

I've another growth scan tomorrow, fingers crossed she's still tracking the same line!

glitterglitters · 11/05/2017 08:48

Wouldn't worry too much about sunhats but there are a few in places like Asda and Tesco etc. Super cheap as well. X

mynameisntLinda · 11/05/2017 09:01

I wouldn't worry about sun hats. Like twixes says they're not going to really be in the sun either in pram or sling.
@natienka I wouldn't worry about clothes. Just have a few newborn and 0-3 ready like vests and cotton sleep suits. Most places are open 24 hours these days and it better to go and buy than end up getting rid of stuff that's never been worn because you have too much. We sadly had lots unborn because it was grown out of before it was worn (he wasn't a tiny baby though so newborn stuff lasted about 3 weeks lol)
@notyetthere if you're worried just call and get checked. How's movement this morning? I've not really noticed much of a pattern (maybe I'm not paying enough attention this time round) but she was flipping about all over the place this morning.

LuciBee231015 · 11/05/2017 10:25

I plan on washing all my baby bits this weekend. I keep saying it and then it doesn't get done but I really want to do it!

Washing baby clothes and getting some fitted sheets for my Moses basket are the last things I need to do. I'm fully prepared otherwise... well I think I am anyway.

Got my 34 week midwife appointment tomorrow

Notyetthere · 11/05/2017 11:06

Linda still moving even now sat at my desk. She has a definite pattern - starts slow at about 5.30am till I wake up at about 6.45am. I then get flatters on the train to work. There is always some movement at between 2pm -4pm. I then get lots of movement between hrs of 7.30pm to 9.30pm(dh calls it witching hrs).

OP posts:
LuciBee231015 · 11/05/2017 11:40

Not, thats pretty much exactly the same pattern as me!!

I keep getting the feeling that I have strained both sides of my groin. I'm not in pain or anything all the time, but every now and then I feel it. Assuming it's everything getting stretched etc. Also this is going to sound really weird 🙈 But baby feels really low and sometimes feels like there is like a hand or something in my vag!! ...obviously I know there isn't but that's what it feels like!

rhodes2015 · 11/05/2017 12:02

Not, I also have similar pattern and yes luci I get the same I feel like a squirming feeling right down there!
I've had terrible back pain that came on all of a sudden on Monday and really hurts when I put weight on my right leg. But had midwife appointment yesterday and she felt baby and said she was back to back so that is what will be causing the pain. I hope she turns round soon.

mynameisntLinda · 11/05/2017 14:44

luci maybe it's waving hello Grin
not if there's a pattern that's a good thing. I pretty much just notice her wiggle every couple of hours or so but it's like a minute of movement then nothing again. I know I shouldn't compare coz all pregnancies are different but ds1 had much more obvious movements and I could almost set my watch by him. Used to wake me up at 4am kicking about (still wakes up about 4am and he's 2!)

Just been looking into being a milk donor. Minimum donation is 2 litres.. that's a lot of milk to store in the freezer and a lot to express. Might register anyway as it would be nice to do something useful for other babies if I could.

Lallypopstick · 11/05/2017 16:49

I haven't really noticed a pattern either other than he / she moves more at night or when I'm lying down. Occasionally I feel movements during the day, but I assume I don't notice them most of the time. Probably because I'm usually distracted by the near constant heartburn!

Notyetthere · 11/05/2017 17:26

I think maybe she went hyper last night because I had a vitamin c lozenge (like a berrocca but Tesco's own) with the spatone iron water to help my body absorb the iron better but it was very sweet. Maybe the sugar got to her.

I have bitten the bullet and paid for antenatal classes starting 29th May. I took the last space in that class. I paid £120 for classes run by former midwives who will tailor the classes to be relevant to the local hospitals as to what facilities are available. I wasn't willing to pay £250 for the NCT ones though. While I have read lots about the whole process from how to write a birth plan, pain relief, managing breach, stages of labour, assisted birth, etc... I doubt that dh has all the information so the classes really are for dh's benefit more than me. But then I'm sure I will learn a thing or two and meet other mums to be. I also thing dh was slightly disappointed when I told him wks ago that we didn't need the classes. That has been playing on my mind since.

Lally oh the heartburn! I have taken to swigging gaviscon straight from the bottle instead of using a spoon.

OP posts:
VickyTheStitch · 11/05/2017 18:07

Thanks @ButterflyFree for the link. I will check it out.

Had my second antenatal class today - on breastfeeding. Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the information and have come home thinking how complicated breastfeeding seems. I know feeding isn't easy for many new Mums but am feeling a bit anxious now.

glitterglitters · 11/05/2017 19:05

Try not to get to worked up about breastfeeding @VickyTheStitch I remember being totally overwhelmed but just taking it one feed at a time helps and just take each day as it comes. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Spindelina · 11/05/2017 19:47

I was completely clued up about the technicalities of breastfeeding last time round, and it still went wrong.

Things you need to know (and that I will find out this time!):

  • phone number of NCT helpline (or other helpline)
  • details of local bf support groups (NCT, la leche league, hospital-based, etc)
  • where and when those groups meet, and especially importantly, which if any will be meeting in July / August.

If it goes fine, you will get sufficient support from midwives. If it goes badly, don't rely on midwives or HVs - their training is too often poor and/or outdated. You need help from people who know what they are talking about.

VickyTheStitch · 11/05/2017 20:09

thanks @glitterglitters and @Spindelina!

mynameisntLinda · 11/05/2017 22:57

Sure start centre was a great resource for by for me and the la lech league usually have a local facebook group you can join.
I struggled for nearly 6 weeks with bf but it got easier and now it's a breeze. Even after having by for 2 years I'm still not expecting this one to be plain sailing. Just remember that baby is learning as well as you so it can take time.
1 feed at a time is defo good advice from glitters

Notyetthere · 12/05/2017 08:22

Linda I have already marked out the Surestart days when the breastfeeding consultant is in for drop in support. In fact they seem to have a few things going on at our children's centre that I think I will be using their services a lot. At least at the beginning.

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 12/05/2017 12:30

The surestart bf mum groups were a godsend in the early days. Helped me get my confidence up, trained volunteers on hand and it just got me out of the house.

AND they make you tea and coffee with lids so it won't get cold 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Lallypopstick · 12/05/2017 12:46

Anyone else find that by this time on Friday, all they want to do it sleep? I don't have a physically demanding job at all, so I'm not sure why I'm this tired. My sleep is still really good as well.

Doesn't bode well for baby time!

glitterglitters · 12/05/2017 13:39

Lol yep. I'm falling asleep on the sofa right now watching CBeebies.

Having a newborn is exhausting and I look back and am amazed at how little sleep I was able to function on. 🙊🙈

Spindelina · 12/05/2017 13:56

Just bear in mind that all those trained volunteers will probably be on holiday in August!
