5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Morning all!! Haven't posted in a good while so thought I'd check in!

Huge congratulations on the birth of your twins @Bluebird - and a very well done to you!! Enjoy every minute!

I'm currently on holiday, lying awake in bed because I've come down with a cold :( Damn this weakened immune system!! Also attempted to break my little toe yesterday by kicking a concrete kerb while wearing flip flops - ouch!!

This is our last holiday just the two of us (until we're old and grey lol) so trying to make the most of it!!

mynameisntLinda · 07/05/2017 08:19

Gone some where nice @catrash ?
I'm about to fly solo with a 2 year old today to spain...wish me luck!! Hope my fit to fly letter is suitable if asked for it.

CatRash · 07/05/2017 09:07

Spain as well @Mynameisntlinda!! First time I've been to Spain - finding it very touristy but kind of expected it to be so!!

Where abouts in Spain are you going?

At least it's a short flight so hopefully you little one won't get too bored! I took my fit to fly note with me but wasn't asked for it on the way out. I knew if I got one I wouldn't be asked but if I didn't then I would definitely be asked!!

Bawbles · 07/05/2017 14:02

Congrats on the birth of your babies bluebird First July thread birth and it's a double whammy!

I've been absent for a bit as been on holiday and time has just flown.

All ok here, have been feeling a lot less mobile now bump is so big and heavy. Baby is a comical little thing already and lets me know when he/she is uncomfy. If I sit in my desk chair for more than a few minutes baby starts giving very sharp kicks and jabs, different to usual pattern of movements. I have been sat on my birthing ball for the last two weeks at my desk which baby seems to prefer.

I've started buying bits for hospital bag, I'd not bought baby any clothes at all until last weekend when I bought a three pack of baby grows which are now washed and put aside. I have got DD old newborn clothes packed away somewhere but though perhaps this baby should have something new Blush

I also bought myself a new dressing gown as I really regretted not taking one last time particularly when I went on the ward with other mums and all their visitors. I felt quite exposed going to the shower etc in my nightwear. I found a thin pretty one in mamas and papas that won't take up much room but covers everything.

We did the hypnobirthing course last weekend which I found really helpful. I'm feeling really positive about the birth.

We went shopping yesterday and bought the last of the 'equipment' including a sleepyhead pod, baby bath and changing mat so feeling prepared now.

Health visitor is coming on Tuesday and have midwife on Wednesday so a busy week, not really sure what the health visitor is for at this point though.

Lallypopstick · 07/05/2017 20:25

Anyone else have fairly constant crotch pain? Seems to be worse when I've been lying down for a while.

glitterglitters · 07/05/2017 20:40

Like achey or stabby dagger pains.

My pelvis clicks at the moment 😱

Bawbles · 07/05/2017 21:08

lally yes I do. Yesterday I worried I was going in early labour, intermittent intense pains in my vagina and back.

I think he/she is just tunnelling down in readiness however it gave me cause for concern

Notyetthere · 07/05/2017 22:48

Yes I do have the same pain. I am pretty confident it's my pubic bone. It is also painful when I am turning in bed. Or when I am sat down for too long. I have to walk it off and the joints seem to adjust to a less painful position. Or sometimes I find that if I have a wee the pains subsides a little; maybe it's not even connected and that it is the fact that I walked it off to that the pain subsides. Oh and the waddle helps with the pain😂, shifts the joints about a bit😂😂😂. Ok seriously it is uncomfortable but I refuse to cry about the discomfort. Embrace the waddle and keep knees together.

Today I have put my hospital bag contents into the bag. 3 babies on the July thread, I had to get a move on.
Dark towel
An old nighty for labour
A strappy nighty for breastfeeding
A light cotton dressing gown
2 nursing dresses(might even go home in one of them)
1 nursing top plus leggings
8 black full briefs
2 packs of Tesco maternity pads
Cloth breast pads
2 nursing bras
Flip flops
Socks
Shower gel
Moisturiser
Wash cloth
Deodorant
Hairband
Femfresh wipes
Lanisoh nipple cream

I will pack last minute - phone charger, pillow, energy drinks from fridge, bottle of frozen water. List is stuck to the bag to remove before DH and I leave for hospital.

I plan to also take witch hazel, aloe Vera gel and lavender oil to put on the maternity pads to help with soreness but I won't get it until closer to the time as baby could be breach lead to csection, etc.

I won't also forget the makeup bag.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 07/05/2017 22:51

Not to or get snacks too but not sure exactly which ones. I know I will need something to give me energy for labouring but I'm not usually a snack person.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 07/05/2017 22:53

32+1 today and I'm huge! I can now rest DHs beer can on my bellyGrin

OP posts:
bluebird1235 · 08/05/2017 00:36

The one thing I packed which has been a life saver is my cheap sports bra. I bought a couple for what was supposed to be the last couple of months of my pregnancy as that was all I was really comfortable in, and DH chucked them in the bag as we packed rather hastily. Now I use them for pumping. I've cut two holes in to fit the pump funnel parts and can pump hands free while I surf the net and it's really useful! I use breast pads to cover the holes when I'm not feeding.

Spindelina · 08/05/2017 07:04

Energy gels / drinks (from running shops) are good. Some of them taste pretty grim though!

rhodes2015 · 08/05/2017 07:26

I have the crotch pain too lally oh the pain turning over in bed 😖

32weeks tomorrow here. I handed my job over to my cover last week and I'm just shadowing her now until I leave so basically I have no job. It so boring and the days drag. I was due to finish on 16june but I might bring it forward a week to the 9th June. Work have said it's ok to decide closer to.

Bawbles · 08/05/2017 07:29

Bluebird that's a genius idea about the sports bra Grin

Not I'm wincing at the thought of femfresh wipes post birth. I remember having to pour a jug of water over my bits to alleviate the stinging when I had a wee last time so any type of chemical/product Shock

Are people packing separate labour/hospital bags. I recall last time I did one bag and it wasn't ideal (Dh was emptying all the baby things onto the floor looking for socks when I got cold feet in labour)
I was thinking a labour bag with things I'll need immediately after birth too then a hospital bag with the bulk of the clothes/toiletries

Spindelina · 08/05/2017 07:39

Last time I had a sports hold-all thing with a long zip, and three carrier bags inside that, all accessible from the long zip. That worked pretty well. And another bag at home for DH to get if I had to stay in more than one night.

mynameisntLinda · 08/05/2017 07:59

@catrash we are in la manga which is in cartagena region. Fles into murcia yesterday. Son asked for mummy milk at tske off snd fell asleep. Only woke up about 20 mins before landing which is a win!! It was the airport that was the boring bit. He loved watching the planes but trying to get s 2 year old, 2 cases a handbag about was no easy task especially st nearly 7 months preg. I didn't get asked for my fly note either. Some helpful passengers helped me with my cases on more than one occasion.stadf weren't very helpful.

@lallypopstick yes I know what you mean, mine is worse when I get up at night or if I've been sat for ages. Had it for a while and mw suggested a belly support during the day would help (although I never bought one).
The standby pains haven't been so bad but I do remember them being uncomfortable first time round.

Notyetthere · 08/05/2017 08:35

Linda I have a support belt but it seems to be only useful when standing or walking. Very uncomfortable sitting down with the belt on as the velcro parts are bulky and dig in.

Bawbles I think I will have to get rid of the femfresh wipes! Lol. Sports water bottle with a squart top should do the trick. Glad I listed the contents of my bag to ensure no pointless things were packed. Ouch.

I am taking 2 bags. One for baby's things and another for my things. I have not really distinguished between labour and post birth bag. I don't really have that mch for labouring in. Socks are in a side pocket with flipflops. An old nightie, a large tshirt which I think I might wear to hospital and keeping on for a while and snacks. What else would I need for labouring?

OP posts:
bluebird1235 · 08/05/2017 10:02

The other thing I had which was helpful was a pad for writing things down. My labour was far from normal and it wasn't until I showed my midwife my list of times that I had had pains (with associated strengths and comments next to them!) that she decided that I probably was in labour after all. Just helpful to have it all in one place and easy to forget quite what's going on when you aren't following a particularly good pattern...

Bawbles · 08/05/2017 10:16

not food, drinks and my maternity notes will fill half my labour bag. I didn't have enough last time so am packing plenty as don't want dp having to keep going off to restock if we are ages.

I've just prepared some mini packs of 'essentials' so
a ziplock bag with old nighty/spare bra/pads/bed mat (in case waters are leaking for car)
A clear bag with 1x babygrow/vest/hat/nappy/muslin
A bag with my bits in (flannel, bobbles, brush, lipbalm, water spray)
Slippers, socks and dressing gown
Reading materials, camera and chargers
Purse with loads of change

July 2017 #5 - Third Trimester is Here!
Lallypopstick · 08/05/2017 11:46

I'm not pleased that other people are suffering with crotch pain but also I'm glad I'm not alone. No wonder pregnant people waddle!

I've got a little suitcase I was going to take into hospital but I think I'll probably need another bag as well. One with my things, and one with just baby things. And plenty of snacks and juice cartons.

Notyetthere · 08/05/2017 12:29

I forgot to mention - I also packed 2 plastic bags for dirty clothes.

Bawbles I have already got the bed mat in the glove compartment in the car for exactly this occasion!

We will also have a separate bag for life with all the food and drinks.

We get concessionary parking of £1.50 a day for partners of inpatients on maternity wards so I will probably have a few coins with me. I don't know about vending machines so during my next visit I will take a tour around to see what is available if we end up there at 3am!

There is a costa at the hospital which isn't too far from the maternity ward so I can picture DH going there a few times. However, he knows that I don't like coffee breath!

As for babies bag, I used the zip lock bags to pack but I didn't pack a whole outfit lie you did. I packed separate bags for each size(newborn or 0-3 months) therefore there are 2 bags for vests, 2 bags for long sleeved bodysuits and 2 bags for babygrows. All are clearly marked. I then packed another zip lock bag of size 1 nappies and another for size 2. Socks are in another zip lock bag and hats/mitts are in another. At worst, DH will end up with lots of ziplock bags on the floor but at least they will all be marked as to their contents.

Bluebird good idea about the note pad. We have also downloaded the contractions counter onto DH's phone.

Spin good idea about another bag at home for DH to pick up if we are there for more nights. I think my current bag has about 3 days worth of clothes. Not sure about the pads though - I have 40 pads and I don't know how many I will need but I could always ask DH or someone else to buy me more if I need them at the hospital. I Might need to top up on food/drinks but we can deal with that closer to the time.

On the subject of bras, someone on another thread posted a link to the cheap nursing bras they got from amazon. I ordered a pair from the same link and they are very comfy! I have worn them over the last 7 days and they are very comfy that I might order some more either closer to the time or just after giving birth when I know how much boobs have expanded by.

I'm in denial about bag packing...but think I need to get over it! Keep telling myself I'll do it once Nursery's finished, and we should get that done this week.

Can't decide if I should take nighties or pj's for post delivery though. Know I'm having a section so pj's would work for access to scars, and I think I'd feel more comfortable in trousers and a vest, but might need a nightie for immediately after whilst I've got a catheter in? Hoping I'll only be in for 1 or 2 night, and would like to be in normal clothes (joggers and a vest or a maxi dress) as soon as possible so I just feel a bit more human but don't know if they discourage that?

mynameisntLinda · 08/05/2017 13:39

wildone I've not packed a bag either. Not gonna bother until nearer the time. I'd only end up doubting myself and repacking it nearer the time like I do when I come on holiday lol
I can highly recommend the Lucozade isotopic drinks for labour. They have a sports cap for easy drinking, nice flavour and really help with energy.
I'm gonna pack an emergency hospital bag just in case that's where I end up but it will be very minimal based on what I took last time (which I packed just after giving both haha)
For baby
2 baby outfits
Nappies
Muslins

For me
Breast pads
Maternity pads
Cloth (for putting on your down belows when you wee as it can be sore)
Cloth (for washing face or freshening up
Underware
Change of clothes
Phone charger/power bank (which we didn't have last time)
Money and change
Possibly going to get a manual breast pump. If baby doesn't take to it I can express and cup/syringe feed if needs be and will stop me getting sore. First baby was a terrible latcher

Car seat I'll put in the car nearer the date and then it's ready in case we do go to hospital and can just leave with baby.

mynameisntLinda · 08/05/2017 13:41

@Wildone I didn't take any night ward with me and had the hospital gown on whilst I had a catheter in. Then the next day I put normal clothes on. Didnt have a section but had the catheter because of the stitching they had to do.

Bawbles · 08/05/2017 13:44

wild I know what you mean about wearing normal clothes. I'll pack some maternity leggings and vests as can wear these under my dressing gown to feel less exposed.

not I have those bras. My boobs are a tricky size (very small back with large cup) so I struggle with non cup sized (the large ones are too big on my ribs) but found these comfy, couldn't wear everyday so I'll take these to hospital and also get fitted for a size specific one (I ended up a 34H at the end of last pregnancy)

I also bought a gorgeous sleep/nursing bra from amazon by a brand called kindred bravely, it says it's 'French terry' but is the softest cotton stretchy racer back that comes in small/medium/large standard or busty. Ideal for home/hospital and no fastenings/drop cups - it's wrapover so cups just stretch to the side.
