5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Don't worry @rhodes2015 she might not fully engage until you're actually in labour. You're more engaged than I am :)

HaichM · 21/06/2017 17:08

Sorry for being an ignoramous but how do raspberry leaf tea and epo help?

DS's head engaged at 32 weeks and he never came back out but I don't remember them telling me how much he was engaged. This time baby is head down and mostly on my left side but I've been told its less usual for 2nd babies to engage.

Sorry to hear about all the swellings but exciting that some babies may be starting to arrive.

I've not been too bad today. No bh so no added nausea and I had a nice nap at lunch time. Kudos and I'm in awe of those still going to work. I was struggling with the commute before the heatwave (why do buses still have the radiators on?) so I'm glad I'm at home. I had a tidy and sorted through our pile of baby stuff, organising things according to type and size, which at least felt like I was being productie despite not yet having a bed for baby or a nursery. I also packed my hospital bag - not that I expect to need it for a few weeks - so the basics are ready.

Great news about your dh butterfly, will keep my fingers crossed.

Who was it who said I should message them about the facebook group?

Sewingbeatshousework · 21/06/2017 17:38

Bloody irritable uterus! Been getting strong tightenings with cramps and backache every 2 mins for 2 hours, I really hope when the time comes this means my womb is prepped and ready to go with no fuss 😂

Raspberry leaf is meant to tone the uterus, leading to a shorter labour I believe. EPO apparently softens the cervix, some people also massage it on their perineal area to help it stretch without tearing 😊

CatRash · 21/06/2017 17:47

@Mawita – what a lovely pregnancy angel you had there!! I’ve tried buckets of ice, massage, my u-shaped pregnancy pillow has been relegated to the end of the bed to be my new stacked foot pillow and last night I slept with bandages soaked in cool water around my feet and ankles…with a fan blowing on them.

And it all makes no difference :(

Loving the astronaut!! Very cool!

@Rhodes2015 – Sorry to hear you’re bored already - just think though this could be the last time you have ‘you’ time for a long long time! I’m looking forward to starting maternity leave but will probably be bored too after a week lol!

Aww @Notyetthere sorry to hear you’re suffering too! Mine aren’t going down overnight but I’m hoping the cooler days we have predicted have some effect.

@Nat2311 Hope the health visitor meeting went well. We met ours today and she was really nice, I actually found it quite useful what she went through but I was wondering what it was all about beforehand – it’s actually quite nice they make the effort to meet you pre-birth rather than only afterwards.

Keep us updated on the potential waters – rather exciting!!

@ButterflyFree – that’s good news on your DH - fingers crossed he’s useless for any physical work!!

When do the midwife’s start telling you how engaged you are? Only 34+6 so haven’t seen midwife since last week but no mention of anything being engaged – only being head down. He/She is massively all up in my ribs all the time though so I’m assuming definitely not engaged yet? Is engaging the same as your bump dropping? I’m really clueless!

HaichM · 21/06/2017 18:29

Engaged for me is the head is in the birth canal. It meant he stayed head there, shoulders grinding on my pelvis and bum stuck under my ribs for 7 weeks. He stayed like that the whole time, and only really twisted around. My bump didn't drop, whatever that is and sometimes I looked like I had a 3rd boob when I leant backwards. Made bending really difficult.

Thanks for the epo and raspberry leaf info. I might pick some up nearer the time

glitterglitters · 21/06/2017 18:35

In your notes you'll find a mark out of 5. It depends on your midwife though.

So mine reads 2/5, which is 2/5 palpable with my midwife. This means she can only feel 40% of their head as the rest is in the birth canal.

It's a good indicator that things are progressing but ultimately means jack shit of when they arrive WinkGrin

If you've had a baby before they can fully engage and then pop back out as well. So you could have them 80% down and then they'll just pull themselves back out till you're in labour. They're tricky little things these babies.

Algebraic · 21/06/2017 21:13

Not sure if it's the heat making me more bothered about this but I had a squizz through my notes after midwife today. I have been switched over to my hospital of choice which happens to belong to a different trust even though it's just down the road. This means reprinting of notes and a new hospital number. I decided to read through the new notes and so much information is wrong! Wrong GP, wrong EDD, wrong weight, wrong title, wrong medications listed.... Feeling quite irked that midwife said 'oh it'll take me 40 mins to transfer you over because I have to make sure all the record are correct', and kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to switch... well yes I did want to. But it's not even been done correctly Confused

Notyetthere · 21/06/2017 21:22

This being my 1st, I'm not sure what contractions should be like. I have had cramps in the last few hours but they are lower down like pain from pressure onto the cervix. There is no pain further up the bump. If it's a contraction should you not feel the pain all the way up the bump? I initially thought I needed a poo but it's more like a period pain now. I thought even if its not contractions I might as well start timing them and see where I end up. It might still be a poo though Grin. I've had loose poos today. Sorry for TMI.

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 21/06/2017 22:00

A lot of labour is having the urge to pooh Grin. Get timing 👌🏼

Lallypopstick · 21/06/2017 22:34

Not that sounds like it could be something. Agree with glitters, get timing!

Weird pregnancy side effect - I used to hate my feet being touched but now all I want is a foot rub. I've booked a manicure for this week but I'm wishing it was a pedicure now. Maybe next week I'll book one.

Notyetthere · 21/06/2017 22:36

OK Glitter I will definitely keep up with the counting. Still getting the cramps so this could lead somewhere. Also still passing the 'show' everytime I have a wee. I will be very disappointed if nothing comes of this.Angry

OP posts:
Twixes · 21/06/2017 22:42

@Notyetthere that all sounds v promising. Keep us posted.

@Lallypopstick I'm the same with my feet, I've been foot massage mad this pregnancy, I think it's a restless leg-type thing?

Man is it muggy tonight!! Going to be another lie on top of the covers one. Day 1 of my maternity leave today and I did zilch, I was a proper sloth and I loved it! Consultant appointment tomorrow, I'm hoping to get a full run down on what I can expect for my ELCS

glitterglitters · 21/06/2017 23:29

Oh god tonight has been a fucking shit storm.

Two year old is currently being walked around the streets by her grandad in an attempt to pacify/cool off/exorcise her of Satan.

Took me two hours of hugging her to go to sleep tonight. A whole two hours of sweaty huggy drippy mess.

Then she has fallen out of her bed for the first time ever. Blocking the door so I can't fit through pre pregnancy let alone 38+2 weeks.

She has then screamed hysterically for over an hour to the point I thought someone may call the police on us.

Soooo much fun Sad this weather can do one. I could possibly have coped with dh home (he's on nights) or if I wasn't pregnant but I'm starting to question how capable I am going to be with two of the little buggers after tonight's drama. ShockConfused

ButterflyFree · 22/06/2017 00:06

Oh @Algebraic that would drive me nuts about all the incorrect transcriptions in your new set of notes! I'm such a stickler for detail so I don't blame you for being irritated by it. And surely it's pretty important that they should indeed be accurate!!! Are they small errors or wildly off the mark?

@Notyetthere if I were a betting woman I'd say you need to change your username to 'almost there' 😂 sounds like baby will be on the way sooner rather than later! How exciting.

@Twixes and @Lallypopstick - I usually quite enjoy pedicures anyway but I've definitely been more inclined to a foot massage recently too. Probably something to do with relieving the pressure on our feet from carrying this extra weight around.

Gosh @glitterglitters what a stressful night you've had, and with DH away on night shift too!! Poor you... and your poor DD - is she ok after her fall out of the bed? Hope she didn't bump anything too badly but I'm sure she's shaken up regardless. 💐

Hoping for more positive news tomorrow morning when DH goes back to the military base to submit all his documents... Another good thing that happened today was that his club finally issued my renewed health insurance policy - it's given to all employees & their families and purchased by the club as a corporate package, but it expired at the end of the season in May and due to it being the off-season they weren't in any rush to renew it... We had tried to renew mine by ourselves but were told it wasn't possible as it's a corporate deal, and the Kensington Wing started chasing for a deposit payment for the midwife delivery package in order to confirm my booking. They gave us a deadline of the end of this week to pay - if the insurance hadn't been renewed in time we would've had to fork out £8k for the deposit and then later submit the bill to the insurance company for a refund, so I'm glad the insurance came through today and have promised to issue the payment approval to C&W tomorrow.

In celebration of that, I went to Harrods tonight and got some adorable personalised towels, bathrobes and onesies from 'My 1st Years' - it's a lovely little company I'm sure most of you are already aware of. They sell in John Lewis/Peter Jones and online too. They had some snuggle suits and onesies on offer so I got overly broody and splurged a bit, but they're all 0-6 months in size so they'll last a fair while. The lady who was doing the embroidery personalisation asked if it was for my baby, and when I said yes she replied "Wow you decided the name early" - I told her I'm 34+5 and she didn't believe me!!! 😅

But actually we had decided both our boy and girl names pretty early on - certainly by 12 weeks we were set on the two options, so then once we found out at 18 weeks that we're having a boy, we've been referring to him by his name ever since. It got me wondering if everyone else has already chosen their little ones' names yet, or are some still up for debate..?!

glitterglitters · 22/06/2017 00:11

@ButterflyFree she's asleep. Just!!! I don't want to jinx it though.

That company is gorgeous btw I remember they made Prince George his robe he wore when he met Obama ( I think they let him stay up last his bedtime especially!)

I think we're decided on names but we're not 100% until they're born. I'm intrigued to see if they change (my name changed when I was born. And my dad added my middle name registering me without consulting my mum who wasn't there!) Grin

mynameisntLinda · 22/06/2017 06:47

@HaichM im yet to find anything scientific for either of those working so personally ive never bothered. Would be hard to say if its a placebo or coincidence. Towards the end all the old wives tales will get tried though im sure lol.

@mawita i had a baby shower first timecourtesy of mil but didnt make any wish list. Mil is throwing me another shower this time too even though i said not too (in a nice way). I ended uo with 3 bouncers last time so a wosh list might have been a good idea. Always good to have varying prices kn your list depending on guests.
Things that are always useful
Car mirror (so you can see them jn their car seat)
Size 1 nappies/cloth nappy
Muslins
Cellular blankets
Bouncer
Breastpump / bottles
Dream sheep

@glitterglitters ah sod the hv have your reflexology done. Hv called to do my sons 2 year review so shes coming on the 3rd juky but if baby is here then ill just cancel it. Turns out they still have my old address even thiugh ive rang twice to make sure they have the new one so maybe thats why ive not heard from the hv for new baby as she didnt even know i was pregant. HVs are optional anyway so im not too fussed about having to cancel their visits.

Ive got some anusol ointment, apparently its not as strong so hopefully that will work soon.
Got some innocent smoothie to take my iron tablets with. Its quite nice and full of vitamin c

glitterglitters · 22/06/2017 07:30

lol I like your logic @mynameisntLinda I'll give the hv a call because if it's for the 2 year review my dd isn't even at the house! Lol

Toddler has woken up all sweetness and light.

Hmm

I love her to pieces but my god!!!!

Lallypopstick · 22/06/2017 07:50

@ButterflyFree we're the same as @glitterglitters in that we have front runner names for both genders but we're going to decide for definite when the baby gets here. I have a lot of pregnant friends due after me, some of whom have found out gender. I know from looking at the baby name boards that generally people on Mumsnet think it's fine if someone uses the same name, but I wouldn't really like it with a close friend, so hopefully no one will have the same ideas as us.

@Notyetthere any progress with the counting?

Mawita · 22/06/2017 08:06

@glitter @carrash and*@butterfly* glad you liked the nursery theme!

Thanks for the wish list tips @mynameisntlinda

@notthereyet hoping to meet your baby this weekend!

@glitterglitters sounds like nightmare night! You poor thing! You sound like a superhero to me looking after the toddler on your own this far along.

@butterfly were you secretly hoping for waters action while walking around Harrods?

I am going to visit them on my first mat week!

I am off today and working from home tomorrow so feeling relieved I don't have to commute or wear shoes. Wink

My last week at work next week so excited to be done with it although I got an invitation to speak at an event the week after and I am tempted as it would be profile building for me... but is it worth it just before I go on Mat leave?

Going to breastfeeding NCT session today 9 to 1!

I am excited at how many babies are on their way.

LuciBee231015 · 22/06/2017 08:44

Not - any update?!

I have more BH for about 90 mins last night that were pretty regular.

I woke up at 5am this morning with a real bad period belly ache. Had to get up and try and pace about as I couldn't just lay there with it. Moving around didn't help. It only lasted about 4-5 mins I think and then went and nothing since though. My body is proper teasing me it's so frustrating! I have no bloody show or anything which is rather disappointing!

It's my due date tomorrow and I'm booked in for a sweep, so will see if that gets anything going.

Last night was so muggy too, had our big fan on in the bedroom but was still so hot!

How is everyone else doing today?

I've got MIL coming down and we're going to go for lunch. I can't really be bothered but suppose it will get me out.

Twixes · 22/06/2017 08:58

@ButterflyFree Phew to getting your insurance sorted, that would've been a pain having to claim that back. I detest paperwork, particularly for that kind of thing because it's always so complicated!

@HaichM I have to agree with @mynameisntLinda I did all the raspberry leaf tea, clary sage etc with DS1 but I don't think there's anything scientific in it, so never had much faith in it. It's good to keep you distracted though!

On names; we're expecting a girl and have a name chosen since I got my Harmony results at about 12 weeks. Slight problem in that I don't know how it'll go down with my sister...Was actually thinking of posting on the baby name forum about it.

To give a bit of background - we have one DS who's 20 months old and he's named after my dad who died a month before I became pregnant. He's got the full version of my dad's name, e.g. we call him Robert when my dad was always known as Bobby. But my sis has always said she loves the name Bobby, well before my dad ever got sick so I felt a teeny teeny tiny bit bad that I was using her name (albeit the full version) before she had kids.

Roll on to this pregnancy and again we've chosen a name that's quite like her favourite girl's name. For example, my sister's favourite girl's name is Frances and we've chosen Francesca (not the real names by the way!). So, the name we've chosen is basically the same name as my sister's favourite girl's name but in a different language.

What should I do? I think I need to run it past her but I'm not sure how to approach it...on top of everything her and her fiance have been experiencing fertility issues which might make her more sensitive about this. It's very difficult...we have absolutely no other names on our list!

To be honest my example of Frances v Francesca isn't great, it's more like we've chosen Elena and her fav name is Ellen or
Eliza is the name we've chosen and Beth is a name my sister likes

nat2311 · 22/06/2017 09:40

@glitterglitters sounds like a nightmare night!

@Notyetthere have everything crossed that things are developing on for you! So exciting!

@LuciBee231015 fingers crossed the sweep gets things going tomorrow! I'm also going to lunch with my MIL today hopefully to somewhere with air con! Last night seemed extra muggy and even with fan still couldn't sleep so ended up on sofa from 4 😭

@ButterflyFree we've got some names that we like but haven't agreed on one yet. We've both got our favourites but have said we will wait til he's here to decide. We have a middle name that's definite so far.

I went to midwife unit yesterday to check about waters - they said they were still intact but baby was sat 'just there' so could have been a leak but they couldn't see one. Said the cramps are promising but that it could also go on a while! Had more painful cramps this morning and some serious fanny daggers that I don't know whether to laugh or cry about but hopefully means he's doing what he needs to!

nat2311 · 22/06/2017 09:43

@Twixes could you bring up the name you're thinking about in front of your sister and see how she reacts? If it's not exactly the same I don't think she can say too much?

Twixes · 22/06/2017 09:51

We haven't told anyone the name we've chosen for fear of various reactions. There was another slightly unusual name that I said to my mum I liked before I was preg and she turned her nose up at it so don't want something similar to happen!

It's possible I won't see my sister before now and the 5th so I think it's either going to be a phonecall/call into her specifically or not raise it at all.

I should also add that I definitely wouldn't mind if she chose a variant of our dad's name - you certainly can't keep dibs on that! or if she went on to have a girl and used her version of the name. I just want her to be happy. I'd love if she was pregnant, I know it'd make her so happy.

Spindelina · 22/06/2017 09:57

We too have a front runner name (we know it's a boy), but not definitely decided.

Annual leave today, and I'm traipsing round town buying stuff for DDs birthday party. Very very glad the weather's changed!
