5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

That is so shit. Sad another offer of an unmumsnetty hug Flowers

ButterflyFree · 18/06/2017 16:57

Thank you for the unmumsnetty hugs @Spindelina @glitterglitters 😩💐 much needed (but will be more so tomorrow night when he flies off).

Unfortunately not @Lallypopstick @nat2311 - despite the strong family culture there, they don't make any such allowances 😢 DH's best friend was in the last batch of call-ups and his wife gave birth to their daughter on a Monday while he was in the military camp... He wasn't even allowed phone communication with her until the Thursday, and wasn't allowed out to see her and meet his baby for 2 weeks! It's my worst nightmare 💔

nat2311 · 18/06/2017 17:06

It's an unimaginable situation for you to have to be in seems so unfair I can't imagine how you must be feeling.

Lallypopstick · 18/06/2017 21:29

@ButterflyFree could he pretend to have a dodgy knee or something, so he fails the medical? Get him to start practicing a limp.

LuciBee231015 · 19/06/2017 07:26

Butterfly you poor thing... is there really nothing you can do?

Well i had a day of my sister putting pressure on me to be at the birth yesterday. Saying that she would be angry with me if I didn't tell her as soon as something happened or anything starts as she wants to be there...cos it's all about her obviously. I don't want her there and have said from the beginning that I just want me and DH. She literally would not stop going on about it. So she'll be finding out at the last minute now, that backfired...

LuciBee231015 · 19/06/2017 07:28

Woke up this morning at 4.20 to another painful contraction literally felt like it went on forever, if that's the start I have no idea how I will cope with the rest of it! Was just the one again tho, nothing followed. I'm 39+3 today

glitterglitters · 19/06/2017 08:09

Eeek! @LuciBee231015 what is it with sisters. I've told dh to "forget" to tell mine Wink you'll be so distracted in the meantime.

Has anybody got any hand and feet swelling at all? It's not massively bad but I can "feel" it. I can't work out if it's the heat though. I feel ok otherwise and I'm hydrated etc but I'm definitely getting it checked out in the meantime.

38 weeks today Shock

LuciBee231015 · 19/06/2017 08:17

I've had very minimal swelling to be honest, only a little bit since it's been really hot. Have taken my wedding rings off now, did that last week. Just try and take it easy

rhodes2015 · 19/06/2017 08:22

glitters I had terrible swelling in my feet yesterday. I couldn't even bend my toes they were so swollen and they went white when I pressed on them. I was a bit worried but I do think mine was the heat, i ran them under cold water which made them feel so much better & raised them up before I went to sleep and they are still a little puffed up this morning but nothing like yesterday.

butterfly I can't believe this has happened. What a worry for you. So so unfair x

Twixes · 19/06/2017 09:06

Hello everyone, just catching up on all the chat now.

Well done on the nursery decoration girls, they are beautiful! We've done next to nothing but I don't plan on her moving into her own room for a few months so I suppose I have plenty of time :) Our nursery is somewhere between those beautifully decorated ones and Spindelinas

Butterflyfree that is awful news about your DH! I can't imagine how upset you must be. Thank god you're getting the best of private obstetric care, I hope they make a really big fuss of you in hospital.

I'm so over this pregnancy lark. Had to do the GTT on Friday because of polyhydraminos and I must've passed it because I didn't hear from them. I'm pleased I passed but the weight of this excess amniotic fluid is starting to take its toll on my pelvis. I'm in excruciating pain for a few minutes when I get up in the morning and turning at night is so uncomfortable. I'm also getting weird chinese burn-type pains to the right of my belly button which are horrible.

On top of all my aches and pains I now have another horrible head cold. I literally have had a cold since before Christmas!!!!! I might have a couple of weeks where I'm just blowing my nose regularly and then bam! I get another really bad one where I'm totally bunged up with a headache and general misery.

On top of everything is the god-awful heat! I 'slept' outside the covers last night - inverted commas there because I barely 'slept' a wink. I was awake half the night feeling sorry for myself, listening to a morse-code like tinnitus in my ear and my toddler coughing in the next room every 10 seconds. The poor baby has my cold as well. I've a full day in work today, I'm at home tomorrow and then Wednesday is my last day. Yippee!

2 weeks and 2 days til I have this baby...!

Twixes · 19/06/2017 09:13

As for the swelling I haven't swelled up too much this time around. With DS I ballooned up huge, so much so I wonder if I had borderline preeclampsia. (I also had other symptoms like bad rib pain...)

At about 32 weeks I had a massive struggle to take off my wedding rings and very nearly had to get them cut off. I was expecting a repeat of the same this time round and took my rings off at about 28 weeks and I've been wearing another ring of mine in place of my wedding set, but typically I haven't really swelled at all! I'm not going to take any risks in putting my wedding ring back on as I know you can swell up in a matter of hours. I'd hate to get my wedding band cut off as it'd completely ruin the eternity ring setting!

Spindelina · 19/06/2017 09:22

I'm not sure what's swelling and what's weight gain, but my feet are bigger and my rings tighter. Didn't exactly sleep brilliantly last night either.

But we got the covers on the Moses basket yesterday, so that's progress! Also finished painting the new fitted shelves, so DH can go mad moving stuff around and I can pack the bags this evening. 37 weeks tomorrow, so kust in time!

I've decamped from my office to a nearby lab that's slightly cooler. Might have to decamp again later to somewhere even further away - we shall see.

ButterflyFree · 19/06/2017 10:23

Morning ladies, thank you for all your lovely messages 💐

We're going to the UAE embassy now to see if there's anything that can be arranged/delayed from this end, seeing as my DH is considered the head of the family what with both our fathers having passed away and me not having any brothers... there's a small possibility they might delay his military service on those grounds.

@Lallypopstick funny you should mention faking a knee injury - it's actually another of the tactics we're going to try 😅 He's had 2 major (anterior cruciate ligament) surgeries on his knee, so if he submits the medical reports from those surgeries he should at least be assigned to a daily office job related to the military, rather than out in the field and at the base camp. The problem is that he is a professional footballer though so they may well just turn around and tell him "well you recovered enough from your surgeries to be fit enough to play, so you're fit enough for combat". Either way it means 1 year away from playing football, which at the age of 26 is not great for his career ☹️

mynameisntLinda · 19/06/2017 10:43

Im so behind lol
@glitterglitters love those nails!! And i second paying someone to clean the oven. Had ours done when we moved in last july but might get it done again.

butterfly love those nails. I used to love painting my nails but i rarely seem to get the chance. I still have a decent collection of barry m nail varnish but not much artsy stuff. Never been a fan of acrylics. I sont leas much of a girly life so they never lasted long before i broke them or picked them off

ButterflyFree · 19/06/2017 10:43

🙋🏼 I'm another one who's had some swelling in the past few days... Mainly my feet; we were out shopping on Saturday and I suddenly noticed my right foot barely fit in my slip-on sandal anymore. Looked ridiculous!! I've been sitting with my feet in cold water quite regularly at home, and running my wrists under the cold tap also helps a lot.

I really feel for you struggling to sleep in this heat, it's so sticky and unbearable. The air conditioning unit DH and I bought from Currys when we first arrived in London has been an absolute godsend - the best £200 ever spent! It has enabled us to sleep very comfortably so well worth it.

mynameisntLinda · 19/06/2017 10:47

Re not wanting anyone to know youre in labour nobody knew when i had my first...other than my mumsnet thread. I tjink 6 of us ended up havjng our babies that day. I didnt knowni was in labour and then as others had alresdy had babies they were up chatting anyway so it was nice to have a bit of night tjme company...plus it's been nice to look on the old thread at timings.its the only way i know when my waters went etc.
My mil will be told this time but thays because shes having the 2 year old.
I think hed been born abiut 3 hours before anyone knew.

Hope its good news butterfly xx

nat2311 · 19/06/2017 11:06

I've had bad swelling since last week in my feet had to buy bigger flip flops as the others were cutting in and trainers are long gone! My hands swelled up Friday so went to get checked but they were happy it's just the heat :)

Got my growth scan in an hour excited to see him again seems so long since the 20wk scan!

And yeah if any of us manages to sleep in this heat they deserve a medal! I am definitely not coping with the heat!

glitterglitters · 19/06/2017 11:09

Oh @ButterflyFree that sounds promising. Everything crossed for you guys. I was wondering about his work and how that would affect it, I guess they expect things like this to happen with it being mandatory. With regards to the injury football and military service are totally different things. Surely there's a case for safeguarding his career and supplementing for his family?

Hopefully it'll all be sorted quickly!!!

Feet are def swollen. I took my engagement ring off a few weeks back. I don't wear my wedding band because I end up with a hideous reaction. No idea why, people laugh when I say I'm allergic to it but it's really heartbreaking and I'd love to wear it.

I can't even work out if it's the heat or the discomfort that's keeping me up now. I have to literally exhaust myself till I drop off now and even then it's not great. All good practice I guess but still Confused

rhodes2015 · 19/06/2017 11:19

butterfly got everything crossed for you! X

I slept until 7am this morning.... I consider that a massive lie in! Running round visiting dads for Father's Day and the heat + taking the dog out for a little walk yesterday took its toll I think.

Spindelina · 19/06/2017 14:08

Just got back from lunch. Not entirely sure how I'm going to get home this afternoon without keeling over. Slowly, certainly.

mynameisntLinda · 19/06/2017 15:25

@nat2311 how was the growth scan?

turns out I am anaemic and it was missed, so got a perscription to pic up and then i'm going to be popping iron pills like theyre smarties. Hopefully enough time to influence the growth scan on Monday.

I slept from 10-4, then the 2 year old came in and we slept again until 7. Did have the fan going though which helped a lot.
My car is killer at the moment coz the air con is broke so it's now defo on my to do list to fix. Not really got the money to fix it but pffft that's what the 0% credit card is for :D

user1463564478 · 19/06/2017 15:37

It's LuciBee231015 managed to kick myself out of mumsnet and now my under name has changed? Any ideas how I change it back?!

I had another one of my contraction pains whilst out shopping for a fan... quite intense. Do these things build up over time or can they just switch on and be regular at any time?

Anyway... no joy with the fan everywhere sold out so I returned home with a Burger King 🙈

Algebraic · 19/06/2017 15:59

@ButterflyFree everything crossed for you that your plan works out!

No there has been no response from LL since I pointed out what it said in the contract and said I was in no condition to move. Think it's very unfair to leave it hanging over our heads. Have been having bouts of feeling very upset about it.

I ordered a fan from Argos today through fast track so have just been to pick it up. Every person in there was picking one up GrinI've assembled it and it is literal bliss.

glitterglitters · 19/06/2017 16:08

Love our tower fan. Also a cold damp flannel on my neck at night. Ahhh

@LuciBee231015 @user1463564478 they can build up over time so you might be in quite early stages. Just keep an eye and if they start coming for frequently just start taking a note. Even if it's not immediate each painful one means some progress.

Just had a manicure and pedicure with soak and foot massage. Soooo needed with my swollen feet. Ended up getting turquoise holographic on my fingers and pink on my toes. I can't really see my toes too closely but toddler has assured me they are "byooootifoool" Grin

HaichM · 19/06/2017 16:14

Hi ladies can I join this thread?

I am 34 weeks tomorrow, am on Mat leave and due 1st August but DS was a few days early so I'm hoping for a July baby. I've had a rough pregnancy with hyperemsis and pregnancy vertigo but for the most part it has calmed down and now it's all about the heat and general discomfort and some pain.

I haven't had any swelling yet - as far as I can tell - but the crook of my elbows has been really itchy the last few days, which I'm guessing is due to the heat. I am also another one who has had major trouble sleeping due to the heat and the general discomfort. My DH has picked up a fan today so I really hope that works as I can't seem to catch up during the day either.

We don't have a nursery or a bed for baby yet (we're picking up a next to me crib from my brother in 2 weeks). We've just bought a house and are waiting for the solicitors to do their stuff and give us a completion date. The rough estimate they gave at the start was around my due date, so we're obviously hoping for something sooner but I wouldn't be surprised if baby came first. I don't know which would be easier - packing and moving while quite heavily pregnant or doing it with a newborn...

I hope everyone is coping with the heat today.
