5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

My usual weight is between 56-58kg but I was 60kg (9 stone 4) in December, when I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant, and I was 62kg in February. I'm now 73kg (11 stone 4) so that's exactly 2 stone up in the last 3-4 months! I was surprised the midwife didn't weigh me at my first appointment here in the UK. In Dubai I was weighed at every single appointment.

Booked in to see my 'link' consultant Gubby Ayida next week - apparently she's amazing - I've been paired with her by the hospital and they require an introductory appointment to meet her at 34 weeks, but all staying well and low-risk, I won't actually need her there at the birth as I've gone for the midwife-led care package. I think it's nice that they insist on meeting with the link consultant anyway, just in case any complications arise later and she needs to get involved in the birth. They also make sure you meet all the midwives beforehand so that you won't be dealing with any unfamiliar faces when you go in for the birth, regardless of who's on shift etc.

bluebird1235 · 09/06/2017 19:19

I'm glad to hear I'm not the the only one who put on a bit of weight!! I was 70kg ish to start with but got up to 95kg!! Shock I was so concerned about the twins being small and premature and read so much about how my diet affects it that I just ate and ate, though mostly good stuff (and a lot of chocolate spread!). It seems to have paid off though as the boys are nice and big!

I'm now back to about 82kg so clearly I was eating a bit too much. I might start exercising soon....

I'm glad you're all doing so well. I can't wait for your descriptions of birth etc after all of the fanny dagger stories!

nat2311 · 09/06/2017 20:21

I haven't weighed myself since the booking appointment but mw said she will be at the next appointment so will wait to hear the damage then!

How are you and the twins @bluebird1235?

Lallypopstick · 10/06/2017 01:02

My heartburn seems to have crept back worse than ever in the last couple of days. Annoying.

Nat I've not been weighed since first app

Lallypopstick · 10/06/2017 01:03

Oops - fat and tired fingers. I've not been weighed since first appointment which I'm glad about. I'll worry about weight loss after the baby is here!

bluebird1235 · 10/06/2017 05:57

We're all good thank you! Boys still in hospital but growing well and exceeding everyone's expectations. I can't wait to get them home!

I've not been worrying about my (rather flabby) tummy and the extra weight just yet - I think I'll do that once the boys are home and settled. I have got used to people asking me if I'm pregnant and offering me a seat on the bus though!! Oh well!

mynameisntLinda · 10/06/2017 09:28

I don't even know why the mw weighed me but she wasn't my normal mw.
Mil has ds today because we were going to try and make some progress on doing the garden but it's absolutely chucking it down Angry So I think we'll clear the garage instead because it's just becoming a dumping ground.
Currently watching birth info videos for a study I was selected for by the birthbliss-academy. New videos and info are released every week still got another 4 modules so I'm hoping I get to the end of it. Some really interesting info. I've just learnt that "oxcytocin" is Greek for "quick birth" ...which leads me to think that seen as chocolate also releases oxytocin I should stock up on dairy milk for a few weeks time..thats good logic right haha

TinklingTheIvories · 10/06/2017 11:46

Linda - makes perfect sense! Bring on the chocolate!

Since moving hospitals I've been weighed every time I've been. Not weighed at the midwife, just at the hospital anti-natal clinic. Weird.

glitterglitters · 10/06/2017 11:49

I'm tempted to weigh myself but think I may cry lol

glitterglitters · 10/06/2017 11:52

Yep. Shouldn't have done that 🙊

rhodes2015 · 10/06/2017 14:20

😂😂Glitters I felt the same when I weighed myself last week

glitterglitters · 10/06/2017 14:23

I did it in kilos so I wouldn't understand. Then googled it. I'm up 30lbs. I wasn't small to start with either. Sob sob sob.

Oh well. Tbh I've not really been good about my diet since I had number 1. Hopefully this will give me a good kick up the arse when #2 arrives.

Stupid thing is I cook really healthily but then end up eating trash when dd has gone to bed Hmm

Notyetthere · 10/06/2017 16:57

Bluebird it's good to know the babies are doing very well.

37 weeks today! Been on the evening primrose oil for a week now and bouncing on the ball every evening.

I don't think I have put on more than 5kg but then I was always bigger with a high Bmi of 33 so we are encouraged not to put too much on anyway. My stomach is squashed so much I can't eat the portions I used to before I got pregnant.

We have been out for a pub lunch and now chilled in the garden enjoying a tonic pretending it has gin in it.

About 2hrs ago I had a moment where I thought my waters had started to go but I'm really not sure. It like a warm liquid, soaked through my dress, must have been maybe about 1oz but I didn't get the urge to wee, it just came out. I have now put in a sanitary towel to see what more comes out. It's been dry since then though so I don't know anymore. I will have to keep an eye on it. Baby feels very low down and so much pressure down there that when walking or standing I feel like baby wants to come out. The pressure eases when I sit down. I haven't felt any twinges that I would think, this is it! More of baby moving and getting in awkward positions but that is not unusual. Either way, it's all very exciting!

OP posts:
Kitsandkids · 10/06/2017 20:13

Good luck Notyet, sounds promising.

When mine went there was a real gush - I woke up thinking I was wetting the bed. I had thought a couple of hours previously (when I actually got up for a wee!) that there was quite a bit of pressure down below. Mine were pink tinged so I knew it was definite waters, not wee. They also continued to leak from then until the birth 2 days later - I had to sit on a towel in the car to hospital as I was totally soaking through the maternity pads I was wearing!

I've had a bit of a difficult couple of days. Baby was weighed on Wed and had lost about 9.5% of body weight which the midwife said was on the high side but they'd weigh again on Friday. When they weighed on Friday the loss had gone up to 14%. So we had to take baby to hospital.

Once there she was put on light therapy for jaundice and I had to start topping up breast feeds with formula as she was dehydrated. I felt awful - I thought she was fine. I think that, luckily, they caught things in good time and if she hadn't been sent in she would have started going downhill at home, as she had started to struggle to feed and wet and dirty nappies were become less frequent.

Anyway, yesterday was a bit stressful but today her levels are so much better so I feel much calmer about things. And she's weeing and pooing like a good'un! Grin I do feel a bit crap that my breast milk isn't providing her with everything she needs for whatever reason, but I just tell myself that formula isn't poison and if that's what she needs instead then so be it.

She's going to be weighed in the morning and if she's gained we'll be allowed home. Fingers crossed!!

Spindelina · 10/06/2017 22:01

Exciting stuff, notyet! I had my waters broken with DD, so no idea what it's like for them to go on their own.

Kits, sorry to hear you've been readmitted - but if she's been under the blue lights, it sounds like you're in the right place. DD got readmitted (12.5% loss on day 3), but put on enough for us to be discharged again after 36 hours. We never got back to exclusively bf (see earlier rants about lack of support over the summer Blush), but you are absolutely right that in the grand scheme of things, it's a tiny thing. Doesn't always feel like it though Sad.

ButterflyFree · 10/06/2017 22:25

Sounds like things might get moving sooner rather than later @Notyetthere !

Bless you @Kitsandkids, don't beat yourself up about not being able to EBF right now... as you said, the main thing is that she's being monitored and making good progress with the formula as supplement. Maybe in a little while you will be able to go back to EBF once her weight and growth are a bit more stable, but if not, don't blame yourself! She can get nourishment from both sources. You're doing great Flowers

I barely slept last night thanks to excruciating aches in both legs, which still haven't really subsided until now. I tried a warm bubble bath, light exercise at home, a gentle stroll through the park, but nothing has eased the discomfort as yet. It feels like I'm being stretched out from my ankles and it goes all the way up through my calves to my hamstrings. The fanny daggers are also out in full force at the moment, plus I've been having quite a lot of odourless discharge (sorry if TMI 🙈) since yesterday - having to change pantyliners every couple of hours. Not quite sure as to its significance. I'm 33 weeks today.

Lallypopstick · 11/06/2017 05:37

Butterfly hope you slept better last night.

I had a bath then tried an ice pack on my groin to try and relieve some of the pain down there. I think mine seems to be worse when I've done quite a bit of walking but it's not like I can avoid that for the next 5 weeks!

Kits how is she doing today? Have the extra feeds helped?

Not - any progress with you?

mynameisntLinda · 11/06/2017 08:37

Sounds exciting not . I didn't feel any wee urge when my waters went 1st time so it could have been them. I was in the bath when mine went though so I just felt a pop but no idea how much cane out.

kits how are things going today? Sounds like she made improvement yesterday which is good. Could it be that the latch wasnt spot in so wasnt getting enough milk at a feed? Thats what was suggested to me so i expressed and gave bottles of bm and expressed at same time. Ds was only slight jaundice and we didn't have to be admitted but I'm sure I was told it was more common in bf babies (although could be mis remembering). If a few formula feeds are what do the trick then it's what's best. Hope you get home soon x

Notyetthere · 11/06/2017 14:46

Sorry ladies, must have been a false alarm. Nothing has happened since. If anything it all been dry down there. But I know what came out yesterday wasn't wee. I really was excited. She does feel very low, it is very uncomfortable walking or standing for any long periods of time but no more twinges☹️.

Lally I like the idea an ice pack but I don't exactly where to put it short of shoving it up my bits to get to the target! I am going to some ironing wearing the bump support belt and see if it gives some relief.

Oh Kits I'm sorry you have had to go through that. Hope baby is now putting on weight as expected and will be home soon. Amen to impressive amounts of poos and wees!

Butterfly how are you feeling now? Hope the pain subsided?

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 11/06/2017 16:33

Atleast baby stays in there longer for her lungs to develop a bit more and put on a more fat.

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 11/06/2017 17:03

It's just the waiting game now @Notyetthere I've been feeling like this the last week
Like I'm going to go at any minute, "damp" feeling etc it's really up and down emotionally and physically.

I have put an incontinence pad under my sheet in bed (sexy!) to protect our mattress and it made me so hot last night I thought my waters had gone but it was just sweat Envy

@Kitsandkids sorry to hear that things have been tough. If you us any IV fluids etc (which bubs being early I'd guess is probably the case) it can give them a slightly higher birth weight. Main thing is they are filling nappies and contented now and that is all that matters.

The jaundice will go and in a few weeks time it'll be a distant memory. You're doing amazing! And if you want to ebf it's still totally possible. Smile

I had a good old whinge earlier. I was so focused on getting dd's birthday out of the way I'm now like "argh crap! Nothing to focus on" and feeling like I can't get about to do stuff. So I've booked some pregnancy reflexology, a gel manicure (pretty certain I'm going to get something wildly inappropriate like unicorn nails or super glitter bejazzlment), booked a trim in, lunch with my sister and if I'm still sans baby next week I'll go for a pedicure, leg wax etc until they come. I was worried about cost but I doubt I'll get to leave the house for a while anyway so might as well! Grin

nat2311 · 11/06/2017 17:16

@glitterglitters I don't blame you! I'm on day 2 of a week away in Cornwall and already feeling defeated with the walking and tiredness - what's getting me through is the pregnancy massage I've booked for Friday at the on site spa! Surely we all deserve a couple of treats after the last few months!

@Kitsandkids sorry to hear things didn't stick to plan but glad all is heading in the right direction now!

@ButterflyFree hope you're feeling a bit better now!

nat2311 · 11/06/2017 17:17

@Notyetthere hopefully there will be some more
Development soon!

glitterglitters · 11/06/2017 17:38

Ohhh I bet Cornwall is bliss in this weather but SO much walking and hills etc. I hope OH is offering lots of foot rubs in the
meantime 👌🏼

Ive told dh tonight we are having a takeaway because I've spent the weekend making curry for 10, from scratch and I'll be damned if I'm spending another minute cooking Grin

Dh is good but colour blind so attempts to give us food poisoning can't see when the meat changes colour when he's cooking so it's just as much effort.

I'm toying with starting to wear maternity pads when I go out now.

My dm's waters broke with me in the middle of Brent Cross Tesco and I'm terrified a)that'll happen to me b) will I have to clean it up?! Grin

nat2311 · 11/06/2017 23:16

Yes Cornwall is great OH is trying to help keep my feet swelling to a minimum which is just seems impossible!

I've heard that if your waters go in certain shops you get free stuff - I could have heard wrong though!
