5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

I'm definitely with you both on the needing to pee in the night. I wonder how squashed our bladders are at this stage?!

glitterglitters · 02/06/2017 23:31

Omg you'd all crack up at me right now. I've found a comfy spot but it just happens to be on the floor next to my bed with about ten pillows, fan directly on me with my duvet .... in nothing but my pants. Grin

glitterglitters · 02/06/2017 23:31

*blinking crazy lady.

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 07:46

Ended up climbing back into bed but I was a lot more comfortable and slept for 7 hours straight without getting up. Yayyyyy!!!

mynameisntLinda · 03/06/2017 08:12

@catrash I'm afraid you have to dtd for it to have a chance of working. It's a chemical (or enzyme can't remember which) that is in sperm that is supposed to come into contact with the cervix and help to soften it for labour. Not sure how scientific it is. I'd rather dtd than eat a truck full of pineapple though bleurgh.
@iamreginaphalange yes fingers crossed for cooperative babies!!
glitters I'm surprised you moved. I'd have been tempted to stay on the floor!

mynameisntLinda · 03/06/2017 08:19

Sperm
You can help your body along with sex (prostaglandins in semen help soften the cervix, and an orgasm may cause contractions that can encourage hormone release & cervical dilation), nipple stimulation (hormone release & uterine contractions), evening primrose oil applied to the cervix (helps prep the cervix).

Although.. a study in 2012 suggests no difference. www.nbcnews.com/health/actually-sex-doesnt-induce-labor-study-says-1C7203852

And from personal experience I had the libido of a teenage boy last time and j still got to just over 41 weeks..so I say it doesn't work lol. Oxytocin is needed once early Labour starts so queue some funny box sets or stand up comedy! Lol nipple stimulation is supposedly useful but if anyone touched mine I'd cry. So sore!! (Almost cried this morning when the toddler squished my nipple between his elbow and the bed😭)

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 08:27

I'm with you @mynameisntLinda on this one. I got to 41+2 before madam showed up. We tried everything including sex, long walks, spicy food, clary sage massage, pineapple, bouncing on my ball etc etc.

They definitely come when they are ready Confused call it par for the course for the way the next 20+ years will be Grin

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 08:28

And I watched Step Brothers and danced around my living room to 80s music in labour last time. I hold The Cure and Will Ferrell personally responsible for swiftness of labour.

Boats and ho's!!!

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 11:43

Just got a letter from the HV about an antenatal appointment. I'll be 39+2. Cutting it a touch fine 🙊

It's the same hv as I had before though and she's lovely so not too worried. X

mynameisntLinda · 03/06/2017 13:33

Hahaha yes glitters!!
I've not even heard from any HVs. Son who was 2 in April hasn't had 2 year review either coz they're 4 months behind.

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 14:19

@mynameisntLinda We've been waiting for our 2 year review (dd is 2 next Friday). She didn't have a 1 year review because we were not "at risk" so they didn't deem it necessary.

I'm actually rather surprised I'm having a home visit. Though the tone of this letter is a lot more "this is your allocated time" whereas the last one was all fluffy and had clip art of a stork on it Grin

LuciBee231015 · 03/06/2017 20:58

I haven't heard anything from a health visitor...?

Does anyone get a pain in their bag that feels like the baby is scratching your cervix or something like that. Have been getting it now and then over the past few weeks but loads tonight.

glitterglitters · 03/06/2017 21:03

Yeah they feel like they scratch your insides with their little nails. Totally normal.

Thing the hv thing is based on your area etc x

Kitsandkids · 03/06/2017 21:03

Well I'm still in hospital and baby seems in no hurry to come out. But what's annoying is that I am having contractions, they get to about one every three minutes, then tail off to one every 20 minutes or so. So midwifed keep saying I'm not in labour, nothing's happening etc. But I haven't slept for more than about 20 minutes at once since Thursday night, as every time I drift off I get a pain and wake up! I'm so tired!

LuciBee231015 · 03/06/2017 21:12

Thanks glitters! Such a weird feeling, wonder what it means!

Oh kits, you must be exhausted! Have they examined you at all to see if your dialating?

ButterflyFree · 04/06/2017 01:48

Don't think I'll be getting much sleep tonight after what's unfolded here in London 😰

DH and I bought a car today and were taking it for a lovely first nighttime cruise along our favourite scenic route; crossing Vauxhall Bridge to the south side of the river at about 10:15pm and then crossing back to the north side at Westminster Bridge. Just as we passed Big Ben we had to pull over to let a flurry of emergency vehicles hurtle by, and the onslaught of rushing sirens continued in the opposite direction to us as we drove all along the Embankment back towards Chelsea. We knew it must be something huge judging by the level of response, and kept refreshing BBC News on the phone until it showed up as breaking news.

I know it's my oversensitive pregnancy hormones playing a huge part but I can't help but feel terrified and emotional at the thought of bringing a new life into this horrible world in just a few weeks' time 😓 My heart hurts.

Lallypopstick · 04/06/2017 03:13

ButterflyFree how frightening to be so close. I woke up for a nighttime toilet trip and now I can't get back to sleep. I know what you mean about feeling emotional at bringing a baby into the world. I don't want to live in fear, but when attacks like this are happening more often, how can we feel safe?

Lots of love to our London / south east mamas on here xx

Notyetthere · 04/06/2017 04:44

I haven't slept either. It is very sad. I work at London bridge which has had my mum in a panic all night begging me not go back until the start of maternity leave in 2 weeks. It breaks my heart to see my mum like this. What has the world come to!

glitterglitters · 04/06/2017 09:05

I can't get hold of my brother. He went out with friends last night after golf and to mark a particular day and he's not responded to my texts etc. I don't think it's anything untoward but I'm feeling so anxious.

I used to live right by there and drink in the pubs, even worked in one or two. I'm just so sad about it all.

@ButterflyFree I'm so sorry you got caught up in it. It's not fair at all and I am really starting to question things now about the world.

I grew up with my dad working in this "area" of expertise and nothing has ever really rattled me too much. I've always been aware of how close we were to being attacked. Have never let it affect my life and brushed it off in the past but now I'm at a loss. I feel like I can't go places I love or have to question every choice I make, not just for myself but for my kids. It's really no way to live. Sad

ButterflyFree · 04/06/2017 10:48

Oh gosh @glitterglitters you must be so anxious to hear from him - hopefully he gets in touch soon; please let us know when he does. 🙏🏻💐

I also have a family member who was professionally privy to a great deal of that sort of information, so I grew up more aware of the threat levels than most... but this current style of attack is just so hard to detect and prevent; so random, and seemingly requiring so little coordination yet causing so much carnage. I think that's what makes it particularly chilling.

London is my birthplace and my home; I love this city and nobody will ever be able to change my mind on that, but during my sleepless night I couldn't help feeling bump's little kicks and wiggles and thinking 'maybe we'd be better off back in the bubble-like safe haven that is Dubai' 😔

glitterglitters · 04/06/2017 11:11

He just text me. Got too much sun playing golf yesterday and went home early with a headache. I'm so relived and he's teasing me for worrying

That's thing it's random. It's more unhinged people than anybody specific and there's no organisation to it. It's just disenfranchised people taking their own (extremely warped) interpretations of things and trying to push it onto everybody else.

I know what you mean @ButterflyFree I was born in London and lived there. It's a home to me and when things like this happen it's like someone has hurt a part of you. Portsmouth (where I live) is pretty safe I think but being a naval city and being a "hotspot" for radicals does make me a bit anxious which is something I've never thought I'd say.

Guy from my dh's class at school was killed in Syria fighting for Isis. Apparently at school he drank, smoked, pissed about, wasn't even remotely religious at all so it was quite the surprise when it came out.

We've just got to try and focus on our children now and not let the big bad world get in our heads. FlowersFlowersFlowers

Algebraic · 04/06/2017 11:20

Just heard from my brother and he is thankfully safe in London, as were friends out in the area last night. Sounds pessimistic but I just think these attacks are going to just keep happening with increasing regularity.

mynameisntLinda · 04/06/2017 11:27

Hope all's well for any Londoners

There's always been war and attacks and so many terror attacks are prevented, we just don't hear about those. No doubt when any of us were growing up there was conflict and our parents/grandparents probably felt the same. World war, faulklands, it's etc.

It's always more sensitive when it's on your doors step though. My cousins best friend was killed in Manchester bombing and she was very shook up, especially as she should have been going with another friend but offered the ticket to her best friend instead.and the other friend is still in hospital :(
All we can do is teach our kids to be strong and not live in fear.

kits that sounds rubbish :( could they not give an epidural or something just so that you can get sleep? It's quite common for Labour not to progress when stuck in hospital but I know that doesn't make it any easier to cope with :(

mynameisntLinda · 04/06/2017 11:29

algerbraic glad yo hear they're safe Flowers

glitterglitters · 04/06/2017 11:46

That's good to hear @Algebraic

That's so horrendous @mynameisntLinda my sil's 9 yo cousin got caught in Manchester and ended up in hospital. I think it shows that the UK is still quite a small country really and it things like this do have massive repercussions for everybody really. The degrees of separation are going to get smaller as time passes.

We can just do the best we can for our families really and not let it destroy our daily lives n
