5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

@Lallypopstick I've bought disposable metal trays so I'll heat through in the oven. They'll already be cooked when I freeze them so it'll literally be a case of heating them through.

Twixes · 26/05/2017 08:21

So annoying Mawita that you have GD, definitely go away if you can. Being in water when you're heavily pregnant is the business. I was a big fan with DS and went swimming most days.

Third growth scan for me today, 33 weeks. Plot that line little baby!

Notyetthere · 26/05/2017 11:55

Lally yes I have foil trays that make the perfect individual pies. I think i bought them on ebay or amazon. The ones for shepherds pies are slightly bigger bse you have to account for the mash topping. For example shepherds pie - I cook the mince and the mash. I then assemble in foil tray and sprinkle with rosemary on top. I finish by drizzling with olive oil on top(for crispiness), cool and wrap in Sandwich bag and freezer. I bake the pie straight from freezer for about 45 mins. Same for chicken pie - straight from freezer to oven for about 30-40 mins.

For summer I might have them with salad instead of veg but I love a chicken pie with a serving of broccoli on the side.

For winter months I might have a serving of mash, veg and gravy.

Some meals you do have to defrost first. I made Nigella's Asian beef short ribs and I froze half the amount for another meal. There is enough for a meal for 4 to 6 people in the freezer. It's already in a ceramic oven tray. I just need to take out the night before, defrost and oven bake afterwards for 1hr. But I bet I could also bake it straight from freezer with a slightly longer cooking time.

As for the bourginion, bse it's goes with almost all carbs- rice, mash, jacket potato, couscous, etc I just microwave the individual amount straight from freezer. I freeze it the Chinese delivery pots.

Whatever you do, label everything in the freezer! Dh ended up microwaving a lump of gravy thinking it was bourginion Grin

@notyetthere I tend to batch cook anyway but I use these
www.amazon.co.uk/d/Food-Storage/Plastic-Microwave-Freezer-Safe-containers/B00N8Z0YDC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1495799629&sr=8-3&keywords=food+storage+containers+with+lids&tag=mumsnetforum-21
You can get them from Costco too. I prefer them to foil trays because then I can microwave if needed.
Making Pea and Ham soup this weekend. I also tend to use my slow cooker quite a bit. Turn it on in a morning and tea is ready when we get home then I freeze the other portions.
@LuciBee231015 Group B isn't routine and it's not something i'm bothering with after looking into it. It's rare that it causes complications, and even if you do have group B strep it's still not that likely it will cause a problem so is it worth worrying about the what ifs? And even in the rare event baby was ill from it you'd still be in hospital (or at home with MW if homebirth) because they get ill soon after birth if theyre going to be ill so you'd still be safe to be treated.
That's just my view anyway, I know some would rather test and know for sure but I just feel like if I was told I had strep B it would cause unnecessary worry. (Plus im sure MW said you can be tested and be negative and then get it before birth anyway so it's not fool proof testing. About a third of the population carry it and never know)

@Mawita that's annoying about the GD. What do they do to help control it or does it just require more monitoring? not something I now much about. We do have diabetes in the family but theres been none at all for the last 2 generations so we seem to have escaped inheriting it
I bought some new clothes yesterday but they weren't maternity ones. I ended up with a last minute trim to Birmingham for work and needed something respectible (as I was in leggings and a vest at the time) so nipped to asda. They've got some nice strappy tops that have an elasticated back so I managed to get away with just buying a size up, and bought an oversized light blue shirt for over the top in my normal size.

mynameisntLinda · 26/05/2017 13:05

Oh re batch cooking there is a lean in 15 recipie for courgette and tuna fritters which are a lovely light snack and they are freezable.
I think this is the link
mk-today.com/tuna-courgette-fritters-from-the-bodycoach/

mynameisntLinda · 26/05/2017 13:08

@Lallypopstick i microwave mine usually just because it's quicker. I think when time is limited with a newborn a microwave is easier. if I have time to reheat in the oven i'd just cook from fresh.
Stuff you can eat with one hand is also helpful, soup, casserole (with the meat already cut) etc are a big help. Trying to feed/cuddle a baby and eat spaghetti bolognaise didn't end well in my experience lmao

LuciBee231015 · 26/05/2017 17:59

Had my 36 week appointment today. Baby's heartbeat all good, I'm measuring at the top of my chart but apparently that's fine, baby low and head down. I asked about strep b but midwife said don't worry about it, so I'm not!
Got a really bad stitch pain on my right side as I got up off the bed though and made me feel faint so had to sit there for a few minutes.
She also recommended that next week I start drinking raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on my ball, eating spicy food and having sex!!

mynameisntLinda · 26/05/2017 18:30

Sounds like a good appointment!
Ahh sod the raspberry leaf tea, it's all load of tosh.
Speaking of spicy food...well food in general..anyone else got no appetite? Like right now I feel hungry, but there isn't a food in the world that I feel like eating. Not sure if it's just because it's warm though. I feel hungry but just don't want to or cba eating

glitterglitters · 26/05/2017 18:44

I get appetite in fits and starts but am apprehensive to eat in case I get horrendous heartburn again. Sad

rhodes2015 · 26/05/2017 19:09

mynameisntlinda same here but again not sure if it's the heat! I had a huge Tesco shop delivered on Tuesday and we've barely touched it! I haven't had a decent evening meal all week.
luci it's really not long for you at all is it! glad all was good at midwife appointment, I seem to be measuring top of my chart too. Keep thinking I'm going to have an enormous baby! I had a growth scan yesterday and it estimated she was 5lb10oz, not sure how accurate growth scan measurements are tho??

Notyetthere · 26/05/2017 21:15

Linda yes I do have those for the meals I intend to microwave like casseroles and curries. I do however make the rice/ jacket potato/mash from scratch but then those are quick and easy. But chicken pies need baking to avoid the dreaded soggy pastry/bottom. Also I like the crispiness you get on top of a cottage or shepherds pie you get from baking in oven. That is where the foil trays come in.

Loving those tuna fritters. Tesco delivered a few tuna cans yesterday so looks like I have something simple to start with on Sunday.

wildone81 · 27/05/2017 02:18

It's 27 degrees in our bedroom (bloody growegg thermometer thing-think I'd rather not know specifics!!!) and I feel like I'm cooking from the bump out 😡 anyone else praying for rain?

LuciBee231015 · 27/05/2017 07:03

I have no appetite either. I'm hungry but I don't want anything, it's frustrating. Sometimes I'm not even hungry!

I've been up since 6.30 this morning, got a wash in the machine already. Going to start my cleaning and have it done early so I've got the rest of the day to relax in the sunshine!

My midwife said she swears by the raspberry leaf tea, I read up about it and wasn't impressed at all really but I'll give it a go anyway. Spicy food isn't really ok the agenda considering I don't fancy anything and I have heartburn most of the time! Was up in the night swiging gaviscon from the bottle! Sex... I think that's a no as well. Did it about a week ago and really didn't enjoy it at all!! Lol

nat2311 · 27/05/2017 08:53

My appetite goes up and down one minute I couldn't eat a thing and then 5 mins later I want a 3 course meal and wouldn't leave a crumb!

Been up since 5.30 combination of the heat and constant need to pee!

We've got about 20 round for a BBQ today- we decided against a baby shower so we're doing this instead.

Hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend!

LuciBee231015 · 27/05/2017 10:03

I woke up in the night with like a period tummy ache, only lasted a minute or so, fell back to sleep and then was woken up by another one, again only lasting a minute or so and then nothing else. Wonder if my body is getting me in to practice 😳

glitterglitters · 27/05/2017 11:26

@LuciBee231015 sounds about right. Practice contractions and false labour can be very common at this point. I've been getting them in the night and it's so uncomfortable 😣 not actual labour though.

Have downloaded a contraction timer to my phone now just in case.

I went 9 days over with my dd. I tried spicy food (apparently it irritates the bowel), bumpy drives, lots of sex, clary sage massage (don't go anywhere near this before term as it does cause contractions but didn't work for me) and nothing did anything in the end

They definitely come when they're ready GrinConfused

glitterglitters · 27/05/2017 12:09

Has anybody used fybogel or lactulose at all?

Twixes · 27/05/2017 20:54

I've used lactulose- take 10ml and see how you get on x

mcnics · 28/05/2017 09:24

Morning all!

Sorry I've been a bit MIA as of late but it's all been a bit crazy here! 34+4 today, feeling pretty big (put on over 2.5 stone!!) but still pretty mobile without too many complaints.

Finally exchanged on the house on Friday, completion date of 31st so been packing packing packing! Also finally got cover for my job at work and cover for my assistants job too so into training mode.

OH has just been offered a permanent role at his work (after being on temp contracts for over 2 years!) so that's super exciting too.

Started NCT classes yesterday and pleased with the quality of the class and hopefully make some friends too (although we are definitely the youngest there at 27 and 28!)

Put lots of bits aside for the hospital bag, still want to label some bits up and get some disposable pants etc, but will finalise once we're all settled.

Off to another wedding today, moving furniture etc next weekend, baby shower weekend after, last day at work on 16th June, then another wedding on 17th.. I feel like time is flying by!

Sleeping isn't great ATM with the heat and needing to pee every 2 hours but treating it as practice for night feeding!!

How is everyone else getting on?

LuciBee231015 · 28/05/2017 14:50

I cleaned the shower earlier and am now in serious pain in my left lower back. I need to lay down but literally can't. Any position is so painful. The only thing that eases it is standing up and my feet are hurting! 😩

glitterglitters · 28/05/2017 18:53

I'm having somewhat painful, somewhat frequent braxton hicks 😰

I'm sat on the sofa trying to chill out and haven't said anything to my husband yet as he'll freak out.

Probably nothing to worry about and I'll keep an eye on it but feeling a bit ooooh errrr right now Confused

glitterglitters · 28/05/2017 18:53

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow.

Kitsandkids · 29/05/2017 08:53

I had a last antenatal class at the hospital on Saturday, which was interesting. We got a tour of the delivery rooms etc. They also went into details of what could happen during the birth which was a bit traumatic!

One thing they did mention was the injection they give to make the placenta come quickly, after the baby's birth. They said you don't have to have it but 99% of people at my hospital do. If you don't have it it just takes about an hour for the placenta to come away rather than 5 minutes. I'm not too sure what to do. I hate drugs when there's no 'need' for drugs and I'm kind of thinking, if your body's designed to take an hour then just let it take an hour. But then I'm thinking, if everyone else has it it must be fine. Hmmm, I shall think some more on it.

In other news my feet and ankles are now always quite swollen by evening time so I'm trying to keep them raised when possible, which seems to help a bit. I had problems with shoes fitting my stupidly wide feet before pregnancy anyway and now can only fit into one pair of sandals which I have to wear with every outfit.

glitterglitters · 29/05/2017 09:42

@Kitsandkids you could always put a time limit on it and say you'd like to pass it naturally but if after say... an hour it's not happening you could have it. I think the injection itself is just synthesised oxytocin so nothing to far from what would happen naturally.

Thankfully my bh eased off but I definitely got a bit worried last night and made me realise how much stuff I have left to do. 😫

Kitsandkids · 29/05/2017 15:11

I've not had any Braxton hicks. Midwives etc have been saying 'when you start contractions they'll feel like Braxton hicks to begin with' but I've not had any so won't know what that feels like!
