5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Ah @ButterflyFree I love Peter Jones - I used to live round the corner! I wanted to go there to look at buggies but we're in SE London now so it's a bit far.

LuciBee231015 · 24/05/2017 19:24

Hi ladies, feel like i haven't posted for ages! Been so busy with work, we're moving office Friday so been packing up and now got to unpack everything on Friday, absolutely dreading it to say the least, could really do without it.

I'm 35+5 today. Got my 36 week appointment on Friday. Does anyone know when you get tested for group b strep? Or do you have to ask? Baby feels so low and like it's running out of room in there! My feet have swollen up today too 😔

2 more weeks left at work for me, can't come soon enough. I'm ready for a rest now.

Lallypopstick · 24/05/2017 20:08

Luci my memory of the details is a bit hazy, but in my NCT class, we were told that Group B strep isn't routinely screened for. I can't remember why, so hopefully someone more helpful might come and tell you.

This link might explain things www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/patients/patient-information-leaflets/pregnancy/pi-groupb-streptococcus-gbs-infection-in-newborn-babies.pdf

LuciBee231015 · 24/05/2017 20:59

Thanks Lally. I thought it was a routine thing. Nit sure whether to ask for it? Has anyone else thought about it?

glitterglitters · 25/05/2017 08:17

No standard strep testing here, though I think they should.

I've given up today. Nothing fits anymore. All my maternity wear is tight and faffy and all my long tops are not long enough now.

Kitsandkids · 25/05/2017 09:59

I got some over the bump maternity jeans yesterday and I love them! So comfy and I no longer have to worry about exposing flesh if my top's not quite long enough! £18 from Peacocks. They're straight leg too, not skinny jeans (skinny anything is not a good look on me!).

LuciBee231015 · 25/05/2017 11:52

I'm going to ask about the strep testing at my appointment tomorrow.

I'm fed up and just want to finish work now. My whole job is changing from next week so feel like I can't be bothered to learn anything considering I'm going to be there for 2 weeks and someone is starting handover for my maternity leave on Tuesday. 9th June cannot come quick enough!!!!!

ButterflyFree · 25/05/2017 12:33

Thank you @bluebird1235 - keyboard warriors!

Yes @Seahawk80 Peter Jones is great isn't it. Used to be the only supplier for my school uniform back in the day; it's changed a fair bit since that time though. We went round the whole Baby department making a wish list, which they then printed out for us with all product codes and everything to make future orders easier. Very helpful.

Oh @glitterglitters I feel your pain 😩 after being borderline smug (!) about how tiny my bump was for such a long time, I feel literally in the past 2-3 days that I've suddenly ballooned and I hate it 😭 I hadn't had to wear any maternity clothes up until now, and I'd only bought a couple of basic leggings and tops, but I'm just generally feeling enormous and inelegant all of a sudden, and getting dressed to go out is a miserable task.

Notyetthere · 25/05/2017 13:18

Don't get me started on getting dressed! DH had to help me get my knickers and leggings on Saturday morning because the SPD had kicked up a gear. I could barely lift one leg high enough to get it through the pants. I think I am going to spend the rest of this pregnancy in dresses.

I am loving the warm weather. I don't have to catch the tube which can get very hot. Most of my trains have AC or you can open windows and there have been enough seats for everyone at my station to get one. The hardest part of my commute is the walk up the hill to my car from the station at the end of the day. I'm normally dying for a wee, pelvic playing games and baby normally like to poke the bladder about while I'm walking.

It's DH's bday on Monday so we are having a BBQ on Saturday. I am looking forward to that. I will try not to over do it as I normally have some poncey menu of skewers of lamb and pork, veg, etc. This time it is the normal sausages and burgers with shop bought lamb koftas. I might make sweet potato wedges bse they are easy. I look forward to just being with family and drinking tonic water and pretending its G&T.

Anybody planning to do a bit of batch cooking? I am going to start next week with individual (using foil trays) chicken pies, and shepherds pies. Mum will bring me some braising beef over the weekend so I think I will make beef bourguignon with it cooking it with a whole bottle of red wine. The only way we can get away with that much alcohol

I wonder what else I could make? Maybe cottage pies but I think I might get sick of pies by then.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 25/05/2017 13:33

A big pan of beef mince for spag bol, meatballs, chilli

OP posts:
Spindelina · 25/05/2017 13:35

DH is the cook, not me, but our most successful things in the freezer last time were chilli - heat up and serve with pretty much anything (rice, potatoes, tortillas, chips...) - and salmon and watercress pies - complete balanced meal in one container.

Once we've got half term over and I've finished painting our new shelves, he's going to start on moving the contents of our house around from room to room and batch cook. I just need to get those shelves painted first!

Notyetthere · 25/05/2017 13:48

Oh Spin I like the sound of the salmon and watercress pies. I will add it to my list. Mum bought me a couple of sides in Tesco when they were reduced in price.

Algebraic · 25/05/2017 14:10

If anyone is a beer drinker I tried Becks Blue non alcoholic beer and couldn't really tell the difference. The Sainsbury's sparkling white non alcoholic wine is also a great prosecco replacement if you add s bit of juice or a berry cordial. (Can you tell I've missed my drinking?)

TinklingTheIvories · 25/05/2017 14:29

I love becks blue!! It's been my occasional treat. I've taken the opportunity to try and eat healthier as I've cut alcohol. Feeling better generally, though not coping well in the heat Sad

glitterglitters · 25/05/2017 15:04

@Notyetthere I've just got back from Costco and stocked up on metal trays and loads of mince and pasta.

I'm thinking shepherds pie, lasagne, Tuna pasta bakes, chilli con carne.

Also bought a hench box of beans and cereal too. Grin

glitterglitters · 25/05/2017 15:06

Oh and a 30 pack of birdseye fishfingers for posh fishfinger sandwiches. Nom nom nom

Notyetthere · 25/05/2017 15:15

I do like Becks Blue. I never had beer before the non-alcoholic wines all have a sweetness to them yet so I have really got into the becks blue. I bet it would be quite refreshing during this heat.

OP posts:
Algebraic · 25/05/2017 15:33

Yes it's been really nice having one late afternoon. Something about a cold beer out of the bottle... I think I wouldn't know it wasn't alcoholic if nobody told me!

Our fridge is pathetically small with only an icebox so we're having to buy a separate freezer so we can start bulk cooking!

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2017 18:32

I'm in the garden waiting for DH to bring home some becks blue!

I'm going to batch cook. Thought lasagne, chilli and some apple cake. Not sure about stew in the summer. Think I won't go mad as I'm pretty relaxed about cooking and I've trained DH up. Plus we have loads of local takeaways if desperate. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend hello fresh. DH could cook 2 things until we started it, now he's much more confident. It works out about £6.50 pp per meal so not cheap but not horrendous, I don't think we can afford it once smp starts but we'll keep getting it for the first month or so. You can normally get a deal on your first few boxes or if anyone wants it I have codes for free boxes.

I don't work for them or anything just love the difference it's made to DH and his confidence about cooking!

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2017 18:33

Oh and the cherry tomato and sausage recipe from Jamie Oliver's at home book is the easiest recipe in the world -
Always my go to. It's not one to make in advance but it's 5 mins of prep and then 45 mins in the oven and it's delicious.

glitterglitters · 25/05/2017 18:43

@Seahawk80 have you made his sausage gnocchi it's amazinggggg

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2017 19:23

I'll have to try it @glitterglitters - DH loves gnocchi and I need a new recipe to cook for guests - I've made the cherry tomato one for everyone I know!

Mawita · 25/05/2017 21:41

Hi all!

It has been a while since my last post but have been reading....

I have missed alcohol the most beer specially so weird as I was never a big beer drinker before getting pregnant. Becks blue is good but I had one called Pittsburg 0 which was the best.

Was diagnosed with GD which really annoyed me as I mentioned it to my midwive at my booking appoiment (long family history of diabetes) and was told not to worry. I think the level of preventative care here is non existent. Had they taught me to manage my diet better I would have probably never developed it! Or at least monitor it closely from the beginning. @buttleflyfree do not let anyone tell you that you are not entitled to the NHS before you left and your family have probably made your contributions 2 times over. I will look for a way of having private care after this baby as I am very disappointed with the level this time.

Anyhow now at least they are paying more attention to me and I am getting extra scans to monitor the baby's size. Slightly worried as last week (30w) my fundal measurement was 32cm and this week (31+4) it was 35cm!! However the diabetes doctor said not to worry as it was a rough measurement... I just don't trust them now... am I being unreasonable?

Started the nursery 2 weeks ago, I now have a crib and a little rocker. ( both inherited) and a bunch of things that I don't know where to put. Will do some work on it this weekend.

Also made a list for the maternity bag and buying and packing it this weekend. You organized types have made me nervous!!

I have 4 weeks left at work and planning a last getaway to the sun in 2 weeks. ( am I crazy?) I just want time with me and my other half where we have nothing to do but eat and sleep. Also looking forward to being in a pool for long periods of time so I have no weight!

My manager has just hired someone so the likelihood is that I will only have a one week handover!!! But have made peace with it and decided it is not my problem anymore.

And last but no least I now only have 4 dresses that fit me. Confused so although not worth it considering I have 9 weeks left I am buying new clothes...

Have amazing evenings all!

Lallypopstick · 25/05/2017 22:47

Not and those of you who are batch cooking, I have a stupid question. Presumably you make and cook the food, then freeze it. So when you decide to eat it, how will you heat it up? Defrost then microwave / microwave from frozen? Or oven?
