5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Yep, by about 3pm every day I'm ready for bed!

Had my 34 week midwife appointment today. Belly measuring dead on 34 weeks top of my growth chart again 😳

Heartbeat all good. Baby head down and very low just above my pubic bone but not quite engaged in pelvis yet. I knew my belly had dropped, feels so low.

glitterglitters · 12/05/2017 14:05

@Spindelina that's a very good point! I forgot about everything being term time only. 🙈

Spindelina · 12/05/2017 14:20

Our bf problems started in earnest when we were readmitted on the 27th July (13% weight loss), and by September (when everything started up again) that boat had sailed. Still pissed off five years later! Not that I'm expecting volunteers to give up their holidays, but it would be nice to have professionals who either knew what they were talking about or at least didn't send us to NCT drop ins etc that weren't running.

Notyetthere · 12/05/2017 14:30

Spin I hadn't thought of holidays. Gah! Looks like support will have to be sought else where. I have lots of you tube videos saved where people share all kinds of breast feeding tips, managing problems like bleeding nipples, thrush, etc. There are some really good one uploaded by WHO that I will refer back to.

The other thing that I'm worried about is a tongue tie. I have a few recent threads on here about the tongue tie not being diagnosed or missed altogether.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 12/05/2017 14:46

The helplines will be open, and you will probably be able to get access to a bf counsellor (unfortunately, I really didn't get on with the one I spoke to). I managed to hire a hospital-grade pump through NCT in August. You will probably find a IBCLC consultant (for which you usually need to pay). So there is help out there, but you might need to be a bit more proactive - you might not be able to amble into your local surestart centre / village hall.

But now is the time to find out! Have those numbers to hand in case you have problems.

Also worth popping along to groups (la leche league / NCT etc) before the baby is born if you want to - people there may well know what is carrying on over the summer and what is stopping.

Will now stop ranting!

mynameisntLinda · 12/05/2017 15:00

Our sure start still runs sessions in the holidays. I still take my 2 year old sometimes to sing and sign and play sessions.
If you go onto your council's website you can usually get a timetable (ours does anyway and everything at all our sure starts is free, unlike in the next town when some sessions were chargeabke. Only a couple of quid but a lot of them ended up shut because people weren't Going.

Notyetthere · 12/05/2017 17:21

Spin rant away! That is why we have this thread. All good and bad experiences to be shared. You give advice about getting all the numbers in one place before baby gets here. I will also get the number of the ones that you can pay for if required.

OP posts:
thumbsupforthesixbillion · 12/05/2017 17:39

Good advice about collecting numbers and details in advance, I've just been given loads of info on local services and activities and didn't realise most of them close in the summer!

We have also put aside a bit of money in case our baby has a tongue tie (not sure how common this actually is but I keep coming across it!) so we can get it sorted privately if we need to, a friend of a friend had to pay £250 or so to get this done recently because the NHS waiting list was months long.

nat2311 · 12/05/2017 18:20

So I had a wee sample sent off to culture on Wednesday when my catheter was taken out - hospital rung me today and asked me to come in as it's shown the infection pseudomonas. Anyone have any experience of it?

Because I'd been feeling a bit better they're happy for me to be at home but have borderline temp and they've repeated my blood tests as infection markers were increasing rather than decreasing while still on antibiotics. Apparently it takes 3 days for the wee to culture so won't know til Monday if pseudomonas is still there and that's when they'll be more concerned but I feel on edge waiting 3 days.

Still got uti symptoms but I knew that would be likely as dip tests have been showing it but wasn't worried as still taking antibiotics but that's not a good thing apparently along with this infection Hmm

Feeling a bit down about it all now and wondered if anyone know anything about it?

Hadn't considered that the centres would shut for the holidays but will definitely check to see if the bf support group will still be going on!

Bawbles · 12/05/2017 21:42

Sorry to hear you aren't well Nat.

Just realised I never thanked whoever recommended the eBay China maternity knickers. I ordered a couple of pairs based on someone linking them on the old thread and they are perfect (dip low at the front) so now have a dozen pairs Blush

mynameisntLinda · 12/05/2017 23:17

Sorry nat not experienced it myself but from what I hear it's usually mild. Hopefully they can clear it up.
They keep telling me I have a water infection but I've not taken any antibiotics yet. I have zero symptoms and don't like taking stuff, especially antibiotics, unless I feel I really need to.
bawbles do you still have the link? I must have missed it but could do with some. I had disposable ones for afterwards last time and they were crap. Ended up just buying asda packs of knickers but they weren't very comfy. (Although not sure how comfy i could have been with 6 weeks of lochia, 3rd degree tearing and constipation that was more painful than birth. Maybe the knickers weren't the problem hahaha)

Anyone else's nipples killing them?? Not sure if it's just coz my son has a morning feed or if they were this sensitive last time. Even with a bra and a top on if anything touches my nipple I want to scream! Even when I take my bra off at the end of the day I have to carefully move my top because if it rubs past my nipple it's really sensitive.

ButterflyFree · 12/05/2017 23:50

It's 02:50 here in Dubai and I'm exhausted... Been in bed almost 3 hours, but baby is either playing a football match or practising karate in my belly, so sleep is evading me thus far!

Came across this image and found it so sweet that I cried (emotional pregnant woman alert), but I just wish my baby would behave like this and sleep at the same time as me 😅😂😩

natienka · 13/05/2017 07:35

Butterfly have you tried listening to some hypnobirthing scripts? They send me to sleep when nothing else works...

Things close over summer?? Need to ask locally as well....

mynameisntLinda · 13/05/2017 07:48

I love my hypnobirthing track. It's called rainbow relaxation but I'm always asleep before she even gets to talking about the rainbow lol

glitterglitters · 13/05/2017 08:48

You'll find that a lot of groups, both government/local authority run and independent (music groups etc) are run by parents. So often they close down over the holidays because of holidays. It's really down to the individual running etc.

Also be aware that if you go to any groups with your babies during the summer period it'll possibly be a little bit more manic than usual with older siblings knocking about.

ButterflyFree · 13/05/2017 09:42

Oh thank you @natienka @mynameisntLinda - I hadn't thought of trying to listen to any hypnobirthing tracks. Will give it a go!

Last night I was listening to soothing lullabies and made a playlist of songs I could imagine singing to baby to calm him down at night... I had an image in my mind of him being draped over my shoulder and patting his fat little nappy bum 😩 started weeping of course lol

Bawbles · 13/05/2017 10:04

mynameisntlinda
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361828196188

I'm not packing them for hospital as they are low cut so not ideal in case of c section but for pregnancy they are brilliant. All my underwear was rolling down at the front and driving me crazy. These are so cheap and comfy.

Defo need to size up though.

mynameisntLinda · 13/05/2017 13:38

Thanks. Will have a look at those xx

glitterglitters · 13/05/2017 13:46

Any other ladies getting quite painful twinges and braxton hicks. There's been a few times where I've been like "Christ. That's a bit intense/painful" etc.

danigrace · 13/05/2017 14:42

@nat2311 big hugs!! That does not sound fun, but it sounds like you're moving in the right direction at least. I really hope it all eases for you soon xx

@Bawbles I love those eBay cheapies!! I said a while back I'd bought 2 pairs at the beginning of getting pg then ordered a load more! Being cotton they'll be good for afterwards too when knickers need to be breathable. Like you say they fit so well and are really comfy and great quality.

@mynameisntLinda These were the ones I got but they do take a while to come www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Cotton-Pregnant-Women-Underwear-U-Shaped-Low-Waist-Maternity-Pregnancy-/272625618178?roken=cUgayN
If you have a bit of a browse on eBay can get the same ones in a little bundle for a bit more from a UK seller like here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CharmLeaks-Womens-Maternity-Knickers-Under-the-Bump-Cotton-Underwear-Nursing-of-/132084811317?roken=cUgayN

@glitterglitters not had any BH yet, quite want some!! Although I'll prob retract that if it happens lol

Another vote for hypnobirthing at bedtime! Often can't sleep without it. I've been enjoying the NatalHypnotherapy tracks.

mynameisntLinda · 13/05/2017 14:52

I never had any bh last time at all so hoping I said through this time too.
Might buy from UK seller instead so they get here quicker.
So bloody hot on holiday. I feel constantly out of breath! Got sunburnt really easily and have since been layering factor 50 on.
Heard about the nhs computer issues too. Maybe it's a good thing all our maternity notes are paper and not on computer!

glitterglitters · 13/05/2017 15:12

I didn't have any first time round @mynameisntLinda I didn't lose my plug or have a bloody show either. I just remember waking up the day I had dd and thinking "hmmmm today I don't know what's going on but I definitely don't want to be myself"

This time has been completely different though so anything can happen!

Bawbles · 13/05/2017 17:13

glitters yes the braxton hicks have been intense and frequent for me. My midwife said you have more in subsequent pregnancies.

I have worried a couple of times that I was going into early labour as they've been so sharp.

glitterglitters · 13/05/2017 17:30

Same @Bawbles !!! Dh thinks I'm being a drama queen but there's been a few "fuuuuckkk?!!??" moments so far.

Fiver says they go way overdue now!

mynameisntLinda · 13/05/2017 17:48

glitters this pregnancy has already been so different. I (probably stupidly) keep assuming I'm going over due anyway so have been making plans up to the end of June anyway haha.
I didn't get a show or remember loosing my plug. I'll probably notice Labour this time unlike last time. Lower back pain (which I thought was from sitting on the floor), dodgy tummy toilet trip iyswim (which I thought was from spicy pasta haha)
Getting in the bath at 2am should have struck me as unusual 😂
