Hi all,

Nothing to update really apart from being completely paranoid that about not really feeling the baby for a few days. I suspect it's because I've been to busy to notice but you can't help but worry can you?

Have added myself to the list. Hope you've all enjoyed at least some of the sunshine. I'm very jealous of those of you with exotic holidays coming up.

xx

Evening all, much at glam holidays. I've just been to central Lancs for the weekend - fab weather! 5 year old DD is rapidly becoming neurotic at thought of baby. We've just had the second evening of tears after 2 weeks of emotional behaviour. She's sussed out that this means her losing her place as only child, so there isn't much we can do except tell her repeatedly that mummy will love her just the same, the baby won't take anything that's hers, etc. Gosh I'm SOOO looking forward to the next 5 months of this, followed by (who knows?) some 20 years of recriminations, then her therapy induced claims that we ruined her life... Hey ho.

Hello Ladies - just back from a week in Cornwall where I have managed to acquire quite an impressive tan! (looks like barbados to me...) My GP says that tans last longer when you are pg, so here's hoping...

URGH! I still don't have my 20 week scan date through, am going to chase right now. Thanks for reminding me.

lots of love to all.

diddle · 16/04/2007 11:11

honey2theb - good luck for your scan tomorrow, wish mine was sooner than it is. want to see my little avocado again.

holly - good news about the tan. hope you're all relaxed now.

Do we have to be more careful in the sun? will i still be able to do a bit of sunbathing on holiday?

Floss - sorry laughed so much i got stitch.

I know the feeling too though, spent the evening at my moms last night, and was the only one not drinking, i do miss my red wine, and i too was knackered and not looking forward to driving home. Hate it that we're autonatically the taxi drivers.

Hopeitwontbebig · 16/04/2007 11:24

Morning all....

Hi Holly, was thinking hadn't heard from you for a while. Glad you had a good time in Cornwall, you were lucky with the weather then. Hope you get your 20 week scan sorted, that's a bit crap that they haven't sent you a date yet.

Hey FioFio, what's going on with your name then... you're getting me confused

Toadstall, funny. I'm sure your DD will love the baby when it arrives. Just remembered something, apparently when I was born, I 'bought' my big brother a lovely big pressie, he found it in my crib in the hospital the first time he saw me. This eased the pain for him, maybe an idea? Think I might do for my boys.

Floss, men huh? Was funny though, do feel for you. My DH got very drunk on Saturday night, I found him collapsed diagonally on the bed, that was fun trying to get him into bed. Worst thing is the sod never seems to get a hangover, if I'd drunk the amount he had I'd still be throwing up now!! Yuk, don't miss that.

We went to Somerset at the weekend and stayed with in laws. Boys had fun on Weston Super Mare pier. Costs a fortune though. We came back on Saturday evening. Got loads of gardening done yesterday and it's looking quite smart. I did lots of delegating! I also managed to jet wash the patio so it looks like new now.

We're probably going to go to France in June. We flew to Majorca last year in July, but my poor DS2 got bad sun burn, despite my best efforts to smother him in sun cream and cover him with a t-shirt. The poor mite had blisters on his arm, he's got a scar there now . I felt SOOOOOOOOO bad. We went to France in 2005, French Life Camping. It was really cheap and the accomodation was spottlessly clean. There was everything there that the kids needed, swimming pool with waterslides, kids club etc. Also it was great having a car, so we could go off exploring. In 2005 we paid for our holiday with Tesco Clubcard vouchers!! Would def recommend saving them up.

Anyway, got the delightful job of clearing up after my dog's 'accident' this morning, think maybe he'd got hold of something to eat on Saturday in Somerset that he shouldn't have. I don't know, you spend all this money buying a pedigree dog and they have useless delecate tummys. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry about sharing that, hope no-one's eating at the moment

Holly29 · 16/04/2007 11:29

Diddle

My GP said that as long as you don't sit in the sun during really long periods in the really hot bits of the day (i.e. microwaving your baby) it was OK to sit in the sun, and in fact it was quite good for you to do so for some time.

It is so true that I have picked up the sun faster than I usually do and it is deeper than usual and I wasn't really sunbathing but just walking around and things.

I'm seeing my midwife tonight so will ask her as well. x

Hello All,

MrsMar - Hope your shift wasn't too bad. Sorry I missed the 5.10 news (was it exciting?!) I know it's hard not to worry (I've been worried about everything since the minute I found out I was pg!! )but I'm sure your pains will just be everything inside stretching & growing. Good luck at the midwife's on Thurs. I've got the opposite worry of not being able to feel anything's in there at all.

I managed to get DH's help with the veg patch on Sunday so he got all the heavy jobs and I got to go shopping for seeds etc... Much more civilised I thought!

Talking of holidays I'm counting down to mine in June. We're going to Sardinia for a much needed final relaxing holiday before the baby arrives.

Floss - how was DP's head when he finally emerged? Did he remember much of the night before!? One good thing about being pg is I'm saving a fortune on not going out so much! I'm sure I'll be needing every penny I can get soon!

sophus · 16/04/2007 15:37

Argh, have lost the ability to work and i am soooo busy i should be working really hard. But all i want to do is to be dozing in the sunshine or walking along a beach with an ice-cream. So i am sitting at my desk pretending to be doing something v. important which is why i can't talk to anyone right now. In truth it's because i can't be arsed and risk falling asleep once they start regaling me with things they want me to make decisions about.
Someone give me a metaphorical kick up the backside.

Sophus

Totally sympathise. Am pretending that I am having first day back to work after hols crisis, but am actually having a snooze inside. Right = kick up the backside to us both!

Rin23 · 16/04/2007 16:34

hello everyone. Not been on over weekend due to broadband not working after house move.

Mrsmar - your pains sounds familiar, glad you were reassured - mine seem to come and go but it does seem normal, fingers crossed.
Also.. I'm doing the pre eclamp study at St Georges - and had the finger test - it is interesting! I'm hoping we might get some insight into whether we're at risk, though obviously just doing it for the greater good. And, I too am a fellow BBC er - at this rate of coincidence we'll be in the hospital in neighbouring beds!

Floss - LOL - totally sympathise with not drinking, specially when nearest and dearest are boozing to excess. It just didn't seem right when out at the weekend with the beer gardens in London all packed. The one glass isn't the same. And to think that this has to carry on if I manage to breastfeed.

Very impressed with those of you who have sorted maternity leave - I can't decide about whether to take 3 weeks prior to due date or 4. Will I be hot and bothered and dwelling on The Birth, or will it be all shady parks and cool swims... hmm.

poppy34 · 16/04/2007 19:49

Holly -let us know what your midwife says as off to morocco in a couple of weeks and not sure I'll have seen anyone by then.

My rant of day is this that I've had no appts or scheduled ones(apart from private dating and nuchal scan) at all . GP delayed sending my first referral after bounced from first hospital as too full, then told today second choice of hospital also full. So annoyed/anxious about what the hell is going to happen now (will get a bed somewhere but when/where and when I'll get into see anyone is a matter to guess). Lets hope nothing wrong with me or the LO... have booked to see GP next week but can't say I'm delighted with all this

Hopeitwontbebig · 16/04/2007 20:10

I saw this on another thread and it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny thought I'd share it here, promise it'll have you laughing... sneezing panda I wonder if we'll react like that when our LO sneezes in the middle of the night!!!

jasper74 · 17/04/2007 08:53

Hi everyone i am due in September and live in Bristol will find out today when i will have CS think it will be around 13th. This will be my 4th. I have DS1 6yrs in July DD2 was 4yrs in March and DS3 16months. I am very excited as always wanted 4 children. I have had 3 early mc's and feel very blessed. I am not looking forward to CS as very scared of needles and general hospital stuff but after my first 2 were emergencies all ideas of natural births vanish!! Have breastfed all 3 for minimum 14 mths each. Love being a mum but also hate it - hope you understand!
Very new to mumsnetting and enjoying it.
my 20wk scan is 27th Apr. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Holly29 · 17/04/2007 09:10

Hi Jasper!

Poppy, that sounds awful. I don't really know what to suggest other than some serious hassling of your GP.

Spoke to my midwife last night about sun, and she said that basically pg women lose some of their ability to control temperature, so that's why they don't recommend saunas/hottubs etc so it means you basically have to be more careful in the sun that usual. You can go in the sun as long as you don't go at the hottest times or for too long. You will burn/tan more easily too.

Incidentally, as she was listening to the wee one's HB, she mentioned that they had done studies on ultrasound gel which shows that it is just as effective as posh stretch mark creams at avoiding stretch marks. I said 'Oh I'm not going to bother about those creams, I think they're a waste of money and I don't mind if I get them' - then when we got home DH said 'I'd rather have a Holly without stretch marks, if that's at all possible...'. What happened to unconditional love????

spraklynewthing · 17/04/2007 09:12

Welcome Jasper74! Congrats on number 4 - I'm impressed! We are a lovely friendly lot her on the Sept thread so I am sure you'll feel at home in no time.

Had a very busy weekend and although I am loving the amazing weather - heaven! - I am feeling quite blue and down at the moment. DH and I have decided to bite the bullet and put our current property on the market. Whilst this is exciting I am also VERY daunted my the prospect of finding a new home and getting bigger and more hormonal by the day! I am a terrible house hunter, far too emotional about every house we see and get incredibly dispondent that the ones we do like go in 30 seconds!

Hey ho, all part of the fun!

Also have v. disturbing dreams. No matter how hard I try not to sleep on my back I alway wake up on it. Having a lot of dying dreams at the minute - hope that is only a passing phase.

Gosh, what a truly miserable post. And it all started with me welcoming Jasper. Ooops!

Hope everyone enjoys their hols. DH and I are being slightly less adventurous and going to stay in a lovely cottage in Yorkshire at the end of May, very much looking forward to it!

best wishes to all!

spraklynewthing · 17/04/2007 09:14

Poppy - forgot to say...heart goes out to you. I was 'missed off' lists uptil 11 weeks and that was bad enough. You have every right to be angry and upset - use this and ring everyone up and RANT. fingers crossed for you.

sparks02 · 17/04/2007 09:59

Hi all

Very jealous of all your holidays and maternity leave plans! Hasn't this weather been amazing!

I have my 20week scan on Thursday and I can't wait. Still have not felt baby move which makes me quite worried, but then i seem to have grown overnight so it is quite clear that baby is growing! I now have a noticeable bump and even get offered seats on the bus from time to time!

I was wondering if anyone else has been getting sore feet / swollen ankles after standing / walking for long periods?
I spent yesterday shopping and had a heavy backpack on and then went out in the evening and by the end of the day my feet were killing me and I noticed my ankles were really swollen!

One other thing I need some advice on - boobs!
I got fitted yesterday and seem to have grown from a D cup to an E! I knew they had grown but had no idea how much. The woman said I need to buy some maternity bras now and then get fitted for nursing bra's at 36 weeks - i thought i could save money and jump straight to a nursing bra now to get the most use out of it (to save buying a huge bra for just 4 months wear) - does anyone know if this is ok to do? Any of you still wearing underwire bras? Sorry i'm a bit of a novice on these things so could really use some advice!

Enjoy your day,
Sparks x

Puppie · 17/04/2007 10:17

Hi Sparks02! My boobs have also gone crazy! I'm not sure about wearing nursing bras yet but I went to Marks & Spencer for fittings and the lady said NOT to wear underwire anymore. She didn't say why tho!

Hopeitwontbebig · 17/04/2007 10:23

Morning all, welcome Jasper, I've added you on to scan list. When are you due? Wow 4 children, respect to you! I'm loving this growing list!!

Honey2theb - good luck for your scan today!!! Let us know if you find out the sex.

Sprakly, sorry you're feeling out of sorts, I have these days too from time to time. Get out in that sunshine, and treat yourself to something nice to eat!! That normally cheers me up a bit . We put our house on the market when I was 17 weeks when we were having DS2........ what a nightmare it is. V Stressful at the best of times, let alone when you're pregnant. I remember going into the estate agents and having a complete pregnant tantrum... It did the trick though, they starting booking more viewings! I hope it goes well for you. PS I've posted you a message on other thread. x

Holly, it's funny you should mention ultrasound gel, because I bought some cream specific for reducing stretch marks and it always leaves my skin horribly dry. Whenever I use my doppler I find that my skin is really well moisturised after using the gel... I did wonder whether the gel was good for skin. I def seem to get hotter in the sun, mostly on my head. Will have to invest in a lovely sun hat!

Poppy, hope you get your appointments sorted, what a nightmare for you, I'd be really fed up too.

Sparks - It is a problem this boobs thing isn't it. I'm still wearing underwire but am finding it increasingly uncomfortable. So far I've gone from a 34C to a 38D. Last pregnancies I went up to a 40E!! I'm just finding maternity bras SO unflattering, so far I've tried on ones from Debenhams and Mothercare. Let me know if you have any luck on that front (excuse pun!)

Nicki10 · 17/04/2007 10:39

Hi All

Sorry I haven't posted for ages! Have been away. Welcome to all the newbies.

Poppy I'm really sorry to hear your having problems sorting out your maternity care. Could you ring the hospitals direct and speak to the staff midwife?

Well I have got a very obvious bump now which is nice. I was so sick of looking fat!.

I also have a very embarrassing problem of leaky nipples already. I will be 18 weeks on Friday. So far it only happens at night and it started last week. Does anyone else have this? Is it normal this early on?

I am still in my underwired bras and I think I will be up until I give birth I am a 32G normally so any bra without underwiring in would be a disaster and also I can't find any that big anyway.

Rin23 · 17/04/2007 11:11

Sparks/ Puppie/ Nicki I'm still in underwire - being also on the large side, I'm afraid that non wire simply doesn't work. I read that as long as the wire doesn't cut into your breast at all, then you are fine - is this something to do with breast milk production? No leaking yet - but I've read it's normal to get it around now. I don't see why you can't wear a nursing bra - but I suppose it's hard to know the size as mine seem to be getting bigger all the time (groan).

Sprakly - sympathise with house move - having just done it all and still unpacking. It was exhausting - emotionally and physically and I had to rely on DH to do all the packing which meant we had crockery packed in with books and the odd shoe, but obviously I couldn't complain as he did do it! I wasn't prepared how emotional I'd feel at leaving my old place - I was a wreck! I'm sure hormones were partly to blame. The good news is that it is great now we're in. Good luck! I didn't find the the looking part too bad - so I really hope you find something nice.

Poppy - really hope you get your scan dates sorted soon, good luck!
