I guess in Scotland they do things differently, when I found out I was pregnant I rang a central number, they asked questions such as last period age name dob doctors etc, told me which midwife area I can go, made my midwifes appointment for 10week and also gave me my 12week scan appointment.
Due to me having to register the first 8weeks with the EPU I got an 8week scan and was told this wouldn't affect my 12week appointment.

Also I'm getting the downs test done via the NHS as part of my 12week appointment, is this not an option in England?

Otter16 · 24/03/2017 17:28

daisy really very sorry to hear your news X

Otter16 · 24/03/2017 17:31

Had scan today at 9+5 all good, hugely relieved, seemed like an eternity since 6+5. Had all my booking in bloods done too, so really tired (even more tired than the usual wall of exhaustion that is current life!)
Back in 4 weeks for next one. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I've told a few people after today so feeling a lot less isolated if that makes sense.

doomkittycleo · 24/03/2017 17:46

Lizzy they do offer the Down's syndrome test at 12 week scan in England. I got my booking in appointment (10 weeks) in the post and when I went today, she gave me the phone number to call and book my scan.

Not sure about early scans as I hadn't been offered one.

Starfish83 · 24/03/2017 18:15

Gimble, the addition of a hysterically laughing emoticon on my last post was an accident - apologies! The beaming smile emoticon is supposed to be there! x

NotMyPenguin · 24/03/2017 18:20

Had my booking in appointment today and it was brilliant. Apparently I will get to see the same community midwife throughout my pregnancy (and maybe at the birth if I have a home birth as I hope to!).

And I had a second private scan yesterday along with the results of the Harmony test, which were all fine. I did find out the gender but not sure if I want to share yet!

ppleasebob · 24/03/2017 18:20

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question - did those who are consultant led get both a midwife and a consultant appt for next time (16wks I think)?

Because of my history (neonatal death, retained placenta) I requested, and my midwife agreed, that I would be consultant led. I'm sure she said it would be a consultant appt at 16 weeks. But I've come home to a midwife letter instead and wasn't sure whether to call them, or wait it out for another letter.
Thanks!

powerpuffer · 24/03/2017 18:54

I'm consultant led and have a consultant appointment at 15 weeks and a midwife appointment at 16 weeks. The midwife said it will be a joint approach so I'll be doubly looked after which I'm happy with.

CritterPants · 24/03/2017 18:56

pplease - I would call. I also have a neonatal death in my history (velamentous cord insertion rupture at 39+3) and with my subsequent baby, I requested (and got) consultant care throughout (plus non-stress tests). I am expecting my third child now, and will be getting the same level of care. Post-loss pregnancy is stressful enough - you need lots of support. I'm not in the UK, but I am sure they will understand. Maybe get your DH to call - I know it's horrible having to explain your history on the phone repeatedly. :-(

10storeylovesong · 24/03/2017 19:13

I would call and make sure. I'm consultant led due to prem birth (27 weeks) and I have to make a 16 week apt with both midwife and consultant with reception after dating scan. I'll be 12+6 at scan but have had first consultant apt at 9 weeks.

BeanSprout79 · 24/03/2017 19:36

Hello Everyone,

I'm so sorry Daisy. Fx for you trying again.
I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday and I'm soooo nervous. The last time I had a scan (11 weeks) I was told my 'nugget' had died at 7 weeks so am excited but also dreading it.

Please can someone tell me what happens (if there is a live baby) with the downs testing? How long after the test do you get the results? I'm so nervous about everything and have never been through this before (properly) :)

doomkittycleo · 24/03/2017 19:45

Beansprout from what I've read if it's low risk you get a letter within the next week or so and if it's high risk, they call you.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 24/03/2017 19:46

Lovechild I had the Panorama test because I'm 40, and have had 12 early losses, and need to know if all is ok before I let myself get attached to this one. It tests for Downs, T13,T18, turners, triploidys, and think might be more that was listed. Results are within 7-10 calendar days, often 7 from what I've been told, and get told the gender too (unless you don't want to). I wouldn't want to continue a pregnancy if it had those sorts of conditions and I wouldn't want my children to find out we were having a baby only for us to get a bombshell at the 20 week scan. I need peace of mind asap after all I've gone through to get here.

Bean sprout assuming the baby cooperates they measure the nuchal fold at the back of the babies neck. The bigger it is the more likely there is something wrong. This measurement is combined with a blood sample they take and they give you odds. When I had my boys it was a case of no news is good news, if the results are bad they phone you, I got a letter about a week after the scan with my results. If baby isn't in a cooperating mood, then they can do another blood test, used to be triple test but think all areas may offer the quad test now, where odds are just from the blood test and don't use the nuchal fold (that was ds2) and again I got a letter about a week later.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 24/03/2017 19:48

Oh and I had Panorama as it tests for more things that Harmony and it is cheaper too! £335 or £395 if you have a scan beforehand to make sure baby is ok before spending the money

boxesoffrogs · 24/03/2017 20:03

colour snaps on the 11th April scan!

GimbleInTheWabe · 24/03/2017 20:18

beansprout at my scan today we got the trisomy blood test results within 45 minutes after the end of the scan and then the scan trisomy results obviously during. Not sure if that's usual procedure everywhere but I was at Kings College Hospital in London.

powerpuffer · 24/03/2017 20:54

Results within the hour too here in Kent. I'm so grateful for it as it means we can finally go public, all being well.

PingusMistress · 24/03/2017 22:14

Hi everyone, can I creep in and join you?

Had an early scan today that put my EDD as 29th October, so I'm hovering between this group and the early November one!

I also had my booking in appointment today, sounds like lots of you did too. They booked my 12 week scan and a consultant appointment at the same time. Regarding Downs testing, they said they will call in a couple of days if high risk, but otherwise you just get a letter in the post.

ppleasebob · 25/03/2017 06:50

Thanks 10storey, Power and Critter.

I'll definitely call them on Monday.

By the sounds of it I'll have both so hopefully the consultant letter isn't far behind. Better to check now though then a few weeks down the line!

boxesoffrogs · 25/03/2017 07:49

Hi pingu!

Random question, has anyone started showing yet? I was extremely bloated up until about 6 weeks, then it calmed down, but something seems to be emerging, no actual 'bump' but I look like I have eaten about three roast dinners and can't suck my tummy in properly!

I ask because I am going on holiday next week, with my mother (who doesn't know and won't be told until everything shows up ok on the scan). It is to a hot country so swim wear will have to be donned not a good look at the best of times! I only have bikinis which will make it a bit more obvious, so shall I go and buy a swimsuit (which will raise eyebrows anyway), or just style it out with claiming to have overdone it on the pies recently? I understand this is a massive first world problem...

ememem84 · 25/03/2017 08:03

Hello again!

I've got dates now for my 16 week apt and 20 week scan (had to change 20 week as dh is away with work and he desperately wants to be there) so it's moving along.

Have ordered maternity clothes from asos which have arrived. Two skinny jeans and two black skirts. I don't need them yet but was desperate to buy something haha!

Ventured into jojo maman Bebe too the other day and had a look. I was surprised at the selection of mat clothes. Having never had to consider them before I just thought they'd be all ick. Turns out I was wrong. So pretty and they don't look like maternity wear! Yay! Will need some dresses tops for work for the hot summer but will hold off on these until summer stock comes in.

Yay!

GimbleInTheWabe · 25/03/2017 08:19

boxes im 12+5 and I'm not showing at all yet! I think it depends how slim you were in the first place. I'm 5 ft 6 and a size 14 and I look pretty much the same as before, like you I can't suck my tummy in and I can feel a bit of a bump (beneath my layer of squidge ha!). From what I've seen, ladies who were slim or size 6/8/10 pre-preggers tend to show a little bump first.
If you're a similar size to me then I'd say go for the bikini if you'd feel more comfortable in that. Even if you have a little bump I'd say most people will just think you're a little bloated or just won't notice at all! Hope you're going somewhere nice?

10storeylovesong · 25/03/2017 08:31

I didn't think I was showing at all, but a friend of mine (who didn't know but has known we've been trying) came to mine last night, walked through the door and said "need to tell me anything, you've got a bump!". I've always had a really flat stomach so I suppose it's slightly more obvious. I've been putting off ordering maternity clothes until after my scan (superstitious!) but if all is well on Tuesday I'll be placing an order that evening! I've not gained weight by the scales but I'm really struggling fastening my jeans and my uniform trousers so may need to concede defeat!

10storeylovesong · 25/03/2017 08:33

Re the downs testing - am I the only one who's refused it? The midwife said they had a 50/50 uptake on the testing so I'm surprised to see no-one else so far on here saying they had.

ememem84 · 25/03/2017 08:33

Have also just been on new Look and bought a dress and a jumper in the sale.

Oops.
