Good luck potatoes

Booking in today ...why am I nervous? 😂

DH is coming with ...but the letter says I'll be seen alone for the first 15 minutes... any ideas why?

GimbleInTheWabe · 22/03/2017 10:57

Glitter the midwife will ask you about any problems with your home life e.g any abuse etc and the midwife gives you an opportunity to mention it without anyone else present.

DebsOctBaby · 22/03/2017 10:57

During my booking in they did ask certain questions about domestic abuse and mental health issues (for both parents) so guessing that's why you need to be alone. I went alone, just 45 minutes of paperwork so didn't need OH there but he will come to future

blu3sky · 22/03/2017 11:03

Scan yesterday. One very wriggly baby! Bean kept stretching but sonographer measured me ahead at 13+1 so new due date of 25th September. I think I'll stay in here rather than September thread as we might go over if I don't have another breech baby. So relieved I spent most of yesterday in tears and ended up with a massive sinus headache.

Scan was hard particularly because of bad memories with the hospital. Also hard because you're expected to drink a pint and a half (!!!!) an hour before the scan. Sickness meant I just about managed just under a pint and ate crackers to keep it down and the sonographer still said I had a very full bladder. It was painfully full, particularly with her pressing down for the scan. I was surprised I didn't wet myself! It's stupid they don't take into account short people. I'm too petite to cope with that much fluid!

Glitterbubble · 22/03/2017 12:01

Thanks gimble and debs ...thought so but thought I would check with some one who knows, thanks! Smile

Great news blu3sky!!!Grin

TippetyTapWriter · 22/03/2017 12:01

Had a bit more bleeding :( Not sure what to do. It's only a very small amount and pinky brown. Google tells me it's common but I didn't have any with my last pregnancy. Would I call the midwife or epu?

Cath1212 · 22/03/2017 12:14

DH came with me for my booking in because you could but it would have been fine for just me. They also ask questions such as is your partner the father of your baby - which I guess would give you the chance to say! The hubby was in for all of mine.

TippetyTapWriter - I am sure it probably is normal but maybe call the epu? Perhaps someone else will advise but its probably what I would do

powerpuffer · 22/03/2017 13:19

We don't have to have a full bladder for our scans down my way which I'm mightily relieved about. I think the newer scanners are clearer and don't need full bladders to enhance the image

thepotatoesofdefiance · 22/03/2017 15:59

Thanks, it went very well, one healthy wriggly baby and a due date of 2nd October! Also the vending machine in the waiting room had nik naks Grin On the other hand I had a trainee taking my bloods who made a bit of a hash of it so now rather bruised, but not bothered really after seeing my little one doing somersaults!

thepotatoesofdefiance · 22/03/2017 15:59

Congrats blu3sky!

mrsbumblebees · 22/03/2017 18:43

TippetyTapWriter - thinking of you and hope you managed to get some reassurance?

Congrats everyone who has had their scans, how exciting! How far along are most people when they have their first (non-private) scan? I got my date through today and it's not till the 13th April when I will be 12+6 which feels like forever away! I keep toying with the idea of a private scan because I am so impatient/anxious, but I had been hoping to wait for the NHS scan - just don't know what to do!

I also still haven't got a date for my booking appointment.... Confused

Corrinax · 22/03/2017 19:02

I have my dating scan on 3rd il b 12+2 but i couldnt wait and had a private scan at 8+3 n as the scan had some gd and bad news i had another one at 9+3 at the epu

I would defo go for private its worth every penny i was driving myself crazy!!

TippetyTapWriter · 22/03/2017 19:26

Thanks cath and mrsbumble. It's still going on, though still brownish and not much. I phoned the midwife and she said so long as it's not bright red and I'm not in pain with cramps it's nothing to worry about. Easier said than done! Fingers crossed it stops by tomorrow, especially as I'm going away for a few days on Friday.

Congrats to all those with positive scans. I don't have my scan date through yet but I'm only 10+3.

Phryn · 22/03/2017 19:42

Hi All, room for a newbie Smile?

I'm 12+1, EDD 3Rd Oct. We had a private scan at just over 8 weeks and saw a heart beat so I'm quietly optimistic that my NHS scan will be okay. Feels like I've been waiting for ages though as it's not till 30th March. Booking in appt tomorrow which feels like something.

A little about me - I live in Brighton with my husband and our energetic 21 month old. I work part time for the NHS. I'm not sure how we'll manage going from one to two children but I'm sure we'll cope somehow. Am most nervous about going back to the lack of sleep and having a bouncy toddler to entertain the following day! Love live music, the (sadly rare) opportunity these days to eat out and good gelato or milkshakes.

Pregnancy so far has not been easy, we had a miscarriage before having our first so it's been a good few months of much knicker checking, initial chronic sinusitis then huge nausea, insomnia and general knackeredness. I think my mini "bump" is mostly made of salt and vinegar squares!

Nice to meet you all Grin
My June 2015 group were a total lifeline during pregnancy and the early days and we're still very active via a Facebook group now over 2 years on!

mummabubs · 22/03/2017 20:01

Hi Phryn! Welcome :) I'm also 12+1 today by my estimated dates but have my dating scan tomorrow so October 3rd might change! 😊

mrsbumblebees · 22/03/2017 21:27

Hi Phyrn - good call on the salt and vinegar squares, I'm craving some right now! I seem to be living off crisps and toast at the moment!

DancingUnicorn · 22/03/2017 21:34

Hi phyrn ! :) There is also a Fb group for us too, if you (or anyone) is interested. I'd say dm MrsCharlieD but I can probably do it too... (if I can figure out how). Think I need an email address! Not that I'm a technophobe or anything

So glad to hear lots of positive news about scans! I'm just filling in forms for my booking on Sunday! So excited to finally get things moving. I'm currently overanalysing every twinge in my stomach (and there are lots!)

donkey86 · 22/03/2017 21:44

Hi phryn! I see you say you live in Brighton. DH and I are planning on moving there soon - certainly before the baby arrives, if at all possible. We've just accepted an offer on our flat in London and have several house viewings booked in for this Friday. Have you found it a good place to raise your first child so far?

PS my 'bump' is also just salt and vinegar squares so far. And McCoys :D It would be discos too if I could find any!

GimbleInTheWabe · 22/03/2017 23:59

Hello and welcome Phryn it's nice to have you with us! Jealous that you live in Brighton! I'm still stuck in the smoke and DP and I are currently playing the Bristol/Brighton Rightmove game.

Phryn · 23/03/2017 07:09

Thanks all for the welcome

donkey86 and Gimble we moved from Bristol to Brighton in Nov 2013. We loved Bristol (still do) but all our family lived in the South East and as we knew we wanted to start a family within the next few years we wanted to be closer to them. We picked Brighton because it was about an hour away from both sets of parents and the city has enough going on that you don't always have to go to London to do anything fun and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. It's also lovely to be living by the sea again as we did at uni in Swansea.

Brighton is also a great city to be a parent in. Lots of lovely parks and coffee cake places for mat leave and play dates after. Baby /toddler classes/groups going on all the time so you can pick what you fancy. We go to a really vibrant church which is very family focused which we've made really excellent friends through. NCT locally was really good as well and actually went through all the birth options and what can happen so we felt really prepared rather than being dogmatic about trying to do it all as workout intervention as possible. Some lovely NCT buddies of ours moved down just a few months before their daughter was born, just before the start of the course!

Good luck with your viewings donkey86 - whereabouts are you looking?

confusedat23 · 23/03/2017 08:12

Welcome newbies!

Dancing Can you add me to the FB group if I PM you the email address I use for Facebook (Please don't laugh I was only 14 when I made it Blush ) lol!

I will make a new list later on today so we can catch up, sorry I have been away... Tiredness is a killer! I am highly anaemic anyway and EPU suggested I really cut down the dose of my Iron tablets as they were making me constipated and I was drinking lactulose by the bottle Grin

I am another one with very little symptoms though, apart from exhaustion and a lack of patience with DH there really is nothing going on.

I have had 2 female colleagues comment on my bump which at 9 weeks with my first I didn't think I would have yet but oh well!!

It is really nice to hear all of the scan news from people! I don't have the date for mine yet but as has to be at 13+6 latest it will be by 26th April which feels like ages away!! So I am hoping it is well before then!

For all those struggling to get appointments I hope you get some news soon!

The Facebook group is private isn't it so no one else can see? I would like to join too Smile

Cath1212 · 23/03/2017 08:28

Welcome Phryn!

DancingUnicorn · 23/03/2017 09:03

Yes, it's a secret Facebook group so can't be found using a search and only members can see posts etc. I figured out how to do it stupidly pleased with myself!

Cath1212 · 23/03/2017 09:17

Fab! How do I join? Sorry I'm sure it's been said before but there are so many posts!!
