boxofrogs and doomkitty we are triplets I think I'm about 10 weeks and booking appointment on Friday! Feels like been waiting for an age!

claire don't worry think booking appointment is dull - my oh wanted to come but I said he should save his time off for scans!

Glitterbubble · 20/03/2017 21:24

Congratulations to the ladies with great scan news Grin
Oohhh hot mango pickle sounds amazingggg 😍😍

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/03/2017 21:25

So I need some advice here! This weekend DP and I are telling both or families but we don't really know how to do it.. as it's Mother's Day we had the idea of putting the scan photo in each of the mums cards and then they would open it and know that I'm expecting. I like this idea but the problem is DPs mum, as well as being lovely, isn't a particularly gushy kind of mum so may not know how to react. My mum can be unpredictable and my sister and her DH have had 2 very late miscarriages due to genetic problems with the babies and I would be the first to have any children in the family (they'll both be there). So I'm a bit worried about essentially making the mums react in front of everyone and putting all the pressure on them IYSWIM. I know my sister will be happy for me but obviously it'll be difficult for her, more so for her DH as he's v sensitive (not a great word but I can't think of a better one). Do you still think it's a good idea to do it this way? We don't want it to be a big announcement or anything but we can't think of another way to do it!

doomkittycleo · 21/03/2017 05:38

Gimble how about posting the cards a bit early or dropping them off the day before so that they can open them in the morning when everyone hasn't arrived yet. Make sure you tell them it's a very special card, so you want them to open them in private.

PeachesandPie · 21/03/2017 06:25

Gimble we told our parents last weekend and did something similar, said oh we've got some photos to show you then handed over the envelope with the scan pics in. I had concerns with how my mum would react so made sure I told her completely on her own, even though this meant waiting another day to tell her. Can you give your sister a copy of the scan at the same time so its not just the mums opening them?

DancingUnicorn · 21/03/2017 07:22

Maybe you could tell your sister in private first so she can warn her dh? Must be hard for them. I'm sure they will be thrilled for you, but that might take the pressure off that being their only reaction?

10storeylovesong · 21/03/2017 07:43

Although it's a lovely idea for your mothers, personally I wouldn't do it. I've been on the receiving end of having fertility issues and mc and how people have told me they're pregnant really made a difference. I always appreciated a text message beforehand, so I could cry in private then plaster on a smile when I saw them. I would have hated to have been surprised in front on people like that.

missm0use · 21/03/2017 07:58

Gimble that's a lovely idea of how to tell your mums. I would suggest that you tell your sister and her DH the day before. I'm sure they will be thrilled for you but the news might be hard for them to hear given their own losses - gives them a day to get their game faces on. Xx

DancingUnicorn · 21/03/2017 08:47

Any tips on how to feel less dizzy? Don't feel like I can even sit up atm.

doomkittycleo · 21/03/2017 08:54

Dancing, are you drinking enough? Dehydration can make dizziness worse as you need lots of fluids to keep your blood pressure from dropping.

GreedyDuck · 21/03/2017 09:34

Nice idea for your mums Gimble, but like others have said, I would let your sister know beforehand so that she can have a bit of cry (if she needs to) and then put her happy face on. I'm sure she'll be very happy for you, but I always found pregnancy announcements like a punch to the gut when I was struggling to conceive and far preferred to find out by email or phone rather than face to face.

UndersecretaryofWhimsy · 21/03/2017 09:59

Gimble I agree with others, I think that's a lovely idea but given the presence of your sister, I would not do it, even if you've told her in advance. Asking her to stand there smiling while this happens will undoubtedly feel like a bit of a kick in the teeth. I would probably tell both of them before you all get together - maybe you could do the card thing the day before or something as a PP said.

It sucks I know because you have every right to be happy and excited and so does your mum, but I have had losses and both my sisters have struggled with fertility and I do think we have a responsibility to be as kind and gentle in our good luck as we can.

10storeylovesong · 21/03/2017 10:08

dancing have you had your blood pressure tested? Mines always naturally very low anyway but drops in pregnancy and I've been struggling with dizziness. No advice of how to get rid though. I hoovered up yesterday and had to sit down afterwards as was pumping with sweat and felt like I was going to faint.

GimbleInTheWabe · 21/03/2017 10:15

Thank you so much everyone for your frank and helpful replies. I had veered away from telling her on the phone as I thought it may seem impersonal, but now I can totally see that it would be the best way to do it. I can keep it short and sweet and then neither her or her DH have the pressure to 'keep face' as it were for the rest of the day whilst everyone gushes. And with my mum I think I will give her the card away from everyone else on the day probably with my Dad too (I can't do it before as we live far away from each other) and then we can just tell the rest of my siblings and that way it isn't some big announcement and is more relaxed.

I think with DPs family we may still give his Mum the card with the scan inside as the situation isn't as complicated with them and we're meeting up to celebrate DPs 30th anyway. I can pretty much guarantee their reactions and there's already a little one in his family so it's not such a huge deal IYSWIM.

Phew! I feel so much better now having a plan with some (very!!) good advice behind me. Thank you all so much for replying and helping me out and for sharing your own experiences too, I really appreciate it.

pollybythesea · 21/03/2017 10:57

I have low blood pressure too dancing and 10 - the best things you can do are drink a lot of water and don't be afraid to increase your salt intake. Sprinkle a bit extra on every meal.

DancingUnicorn · 21/03/2017 11:47

Thanks doom, 10 and Polly. Am trying hard to drink, but struggling. I used to have low blood pressure but it increased to normal on the pill, so maybe it's dropped off since I stopped taking it. I'll persevere with the water! Currently feeling very sorry for myself lying in bed.

Glad you have a plan you are happy with gimble. Your sister will be happy for you, any sadness is for her losses, which I'm sure you realise. But it's kind of you to think about how she will react, and I'm sure she will appreciate it.

BAR91 · 21/03/2017 12:35

I thought I'd jump in I had a scan that put me at 7+5 a few weeks ago, putting me at 10+2 today. I didn't have an LMP date but I'd guessed at being a few days more than the scan said so that's not bad. Apparently the scan can be a few days out that early. Anyway hi :) I have a scan next Friday.

Babycarmen · 21/03/2017 12:38

Another one on the low blood pressure train here. Naturally low but worse with pregnancy. Nothing helps and I eat way too much salt already Blush

10+3 today and I just got a Fetal Doppler from my cousin and I heard the heartbeat!!!! Took a while to find so if you're a worrier I wouldn't recommend getting one yet but ohhh it was so emotional. Flowers

10storeylovesong · 21/03/2017 12:40

I feel like taken a massive step back today, literally everything that's passed my lips has been violently ejected, exorcist style.

I already eat a lot of salt, mainly with the excuse that it's to help my blood pressure!

pollybythesea · 21/03/2017 12:45

Ahh me too 10 - my nausea was kinda manageable last week but I've been hugging the toilet bowl the last two days all over again. Fingers crossed it does pass soooon

10storeylovesong · 21/03/2017 12:57

Definitely fingers crossed - I'm in work sat on the toilet floor and doing all my work on a tablet!

powerpuffer · 21/03/2017 13:20

Babycarmen I have a doppler too and love it! So reassuring to be able to listen to the heartbeat. You'll soon realise where baby usually is and then you'll find baby almost instantly. I listen for about 30 seconds a day and can usually find the heartbeat instantly. It's really helping DH bond too.

greentreeseverywhere · 21/03/2017 13:23

my iron came back really low on my booking in blood tests. which she said will explain some of my dizziness and I'm drinking double the water I use to but still dehydrated. could be your iron too dancing?

DancingUnicorn · 21/03/2017 14:10

Really wishing I'd already had booking in. Realised if I feel really dreadful I don't even know whether to call the midwife or the gp?! I feel like I've been waiting forever. :( (10+4 today)

KitKatSplat · 21/03/2017 14:11

Glad I'm not the only one who has reverted back in terms of nausea. Felt sick for 80% of today so far, except for when I was at the gym. Further on that note - today was the 1st time I actually felt something physically different in my belly when trying to do lifting and stretches. Like I'd eaten a massive bowl of pasta right beforehand. Weird. I'm on 10+2, btw.
