I found out the gender during my first pregnancy, not for 'colour coding' but as he had a lot of health issues and I was told he probably wouldn't make it , and during the numerous consultant apts and scans and the long scary days stuck in hospital, it helped to call him 'he' rather than 'it' and I felt like I bonded more.

10storeylovesong · 15/03/2017 11:41

Good luck sticky

Glitterbubble · 15/03/2017 11:43

Good luck sticky

Me and DH are going to find out the gender for sure, just feel like it will make planning and preparation easier, of course we have talked about names already and nothing has me gripped at all, so cutting that task in half will be a major help too haha!!

Can't wait until scan but it still feels forever away (11th April), feel like nothing is going on at all so I am anxious about it! Booking in is a week today, so will finally feel like something is happening 🙈

Rachieg88 · 15/03/2017 11:48

Best of luck sticky I hope you have a happy healthy bean!!

Lottbarn · 15/03/2017 11:52

Good luck sticky! Hope all goes well

ThatGirl82 · 15/03/2017 12:16

Good luck Sticky, hope all goes well for you.

We aren't going to find out the gender. My OH described it as "peeking at your Christmas presents" which is exactly how I feel. For me, part of the excitement of meeting my baby for the first time will be finding out the sex, and then deciding on a name that suits. I'm also not massively into pink and blue so land have seen some lovely neutral babygrows I look forward to buying in a few months!

charmanar · 15/03/2017 12:42

10storey we were the same last time - we were going to be yellow but had a few scares at the beginning of the pregnancy and when that happened I immediately wanted to know the gender to help me picture the baby better and bond. I want to find out again this time as I think it will help DS bond with the bump as a sister/brother rather than 'baby'.
Good luck sticky
After a horrendous last few days where DS and I have both been really ill and we have all just about been surviving, I feel normalish for the first time in ages and actually think I can deal with taking him to the park this afternoon! Sure it's just a brief respite rather than the end of all the nausea, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

BrioLover · 15/03/2017 15:12

We will find out the sex - DS has ASD so we need to help him prepare as much as as we can. I also really want to know!

Kirsty8333 · 15/03/2017 17:04

We will be staying on team yellow. I didnt find out with my other two either. I loved the guessing and and not know right up until the end.

DebsOctBaby · 15/03/2017 17:06

I originally didn't want to know but OH does (he has two boys already) and I'm a real control freak and organising person (I'm a PA) so I don't think I'll be able to not find out if I'm honest. I also am coming round to the bonding aspect

DebsOctBaby · 15/03/2017 17:06

Oh and today I feel like I've swallowed a beach ball, the bloating and gas is painful!!!

PlzBeSticky23 · 15/03/2017 17:11

Thank you all for all the luck - it must have worked because scan went well! The baby is measuring at 7+4 which means my due date is 28th October, and the heartbeat was so strong, we got to hear it and DP cried a bit, it's all very real now. Feel much more calm. Hope you're all having a lovely afternoon xx

Rachieg88 · 15/03/2017 17:17

Sticky that is such great news you must be so happy Smile

Anyone else suffering with crazy breakouts? My face is like a dot to dot puzzle at the moment! Confused

thepotatoesofdefiance · 15/03/2017 17:43

Congrats sticky!

We kept it a secret with DS1 (my choice), found out with DS2 (DH's choice) but didn't tell anyone else. I think there are arguments for both but at the moment I'm leaning towards another surprise Smile

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 15/03/2017 17:53

I'm spotting again, getting fed up of this now, 3rd time in the last 8 days, am worried the scan tomorrow will show the baby has died and that it's only the progesterone keeping everything at bay. Probably completely irrational but just feel so negative right now.

Otter16 · 15/03/2017 20:01

Best of luck loopy x

Allykatz · 15/03/2017 20:49

loopy if it helps a bleed doesn't mean the end. I had my second bleed last night. Got checked out at epu and everything going great.
But I can honestly say when this one comes out it'll be pay back! For all the stress it's causing me haha
Positive vibes from me x

witsender · 15/03/2017 21:17

Booking in appt today, all the usual forms. Plus lots of blood tests, vein collapsed half way through which was entertaining...I then passed out! I lost over 2.5l of blood after Ds, than passed out losing a few ml. 😂

KitKatSplat · 15/03/2017 21:46

Congratulations sticky and sorry to hear the drama, witsender! Hope you're OK now.

Interesting that I am seeing a trend of generally the women don't care less about finding out the sex.... I'm with a lot of women here in that I'm not a fan of all this pink blue (my mother dressed me in constant pink as a child and I hated it.) For me it's more a fear that I don't want my husband to - even involuntarily - start picturing what our baby will grow up to be based on lazy gender stereotypes (he's an avid football fan and I've told him I'll break his legs if he doesn't force his passion on a girl as equally if it would be a boy.) It's a real concern of mine. But, that said, if it's important for him to know, I'll go with it.

Trytowin · 15/03/2017 21:48

I cracked and booked a private scan for tomorrow! My reasoning is I'm going to see relatives next week and would like to know it's ok before i say anything. Also I'm so impatient! Re. Pink and blue I'm really not a fan but i don't do neutral either. I'm a Goth mum to be (eek) so white beige lemon pink blue etc. all out. That being said both my husband and I are of the find out persuasion so at least we agree! Plus we have the same taste so win win!

Lizzynic · 16/03/2017 06:07

My DH and I have finally agreed to stay team yellow, we both agreed that after our MC last year all that matters this time is Pip (our nickname for baby) is healthy and survives. Also I'm not a girlie girl, I never wear makeup and very rarely wear dresses, so girl or boy they being brought up to love rugby, walking and cycling GrinGrin

I had my first midwifes appointment yesterday as well, they couldn't get blood out of me and ended up using a vein in my foot which I can say was likely the worst experience ever. She was saying that the scan I had at 8weeks also put me 1 day ahead of what I thought but that will be determined on the 28th March at my 12week scan xx

boxesoffrogs · 16/03/2017 06:51

try good luck for today!

lizzy that sounds painful... pip is also the nickname we have for whoever is hopefully growing in there as well, snap!

Got a week and a day to go before booking in, and then 3 and a half weeks to go before first scan. The waiting and in limbo bit is driving me mad... I just booked a holiday to get back the day before, so at least hopefully that will take my mind off it, plus I need some sunshine right now.

A lot of you have had early scans... how do you go about it? Was it because of any previous history/bleeding, or just because you (understandably) want the reassurance? Sorry to be nosy.

mummabubs · 16/03/2017 06:57

Boxes I had a scan through my EPU due to bleeding at 7 weeks, it was literally 3 minutes start to finish- is there a baby still there? Yup! Phew! Early scans through the NHS will be because of this or if someone has a history of high-risk pregnancy/early loss. Others get scans by paying for them from a private company, think on average it costs about £80 per scan but don't quote me on that! X

BrioLover · 16/03/2017 06:59

YES Debs also bloating like anything. Really hurts too. And Rachie my skin is going bananas. Luckily it's more on my back and chest but the spots are massive and itchy.

I should probably have said more about why we're finding out the sex. DS gets on really well with girls, but not with boys. Apparently can happen a lot with ASD (he is Aspergers, so high functioning). So if it's a boy then we have to do far more prep, and I will need to start working on my worries and concerns about it being a boy so I at least try to prevent PND (which I had last time).

ememem84 · 16/03/2017 07:29

I like to think I'm not going to be all pink for girls blue for boys. But I'm sure some will sneak in somewhere.

I'm convinced baby is a girl. Dh doesn't care which and neither do I. He's said that he will encourage sports no matter which. S/he will learn about rugby and football and cricket and NFL. He's planning on using this as dad bonding.

He's thought about how funny it would be for him to teach baby (esp if it's a girl) to repeat commentators/pundits remarks on the tv and get her to say them to my dad. Neither me or my sister were good at or interested in sports. So it freaks dad out when I sometimes watch match of the day and then memorise stuff that's said and parrotnit back to him. He has to double take. Grin
