Londonmummy05 - I've put on a stone (at 18 weeks) and surprised myself... but I was reading on the BBC website about boys make you hungrier, and this is indeed a chap. Felt sick as a dog with the two dds - so this feels great!

Londonmummy05 · 20/10/2004 11:54

thanks babster that makes me feel better, maybe I should look hard between the babies legs at the scan! I haven't felt sick at all throughout my pregnancy-only a bit queasy until I eat then I'm fine- maybe we;re having a boy too! DH doesn't want to find out so it's great to hear your symptons to compare and try and guess, although I hear some people are sicker when they have boys so I won't really know until birthday!

bonym · 20/10/2004 12:15

Londonmummy - good luck with your scan - mine is a week Friday and, like you, I can't wait! Don't want to make anyone sick but I am actually the same weight as I was pre-pregnancy. I think this is because I actually lost weight at first - I put it down to no alchohol & no chocolate (went off both but am making it up on the chocolate front now!) and generally eating less due to feeling so nauseous. I was a bit worried that I hadn't put on enough but the bump is certainly looking big so I guess all is ok

ZoeC · 20/10/2004 13:40

Hi All,

Wow - it's really exciting hearing about everyone's 20 weeks scans. I've got 3 weeks to go before mine as the hospital couldn't count to 20 weeks but I expect it'll come round soon enough.

I've just weighed myself out of curiosity and I can't believe I've only gained 7lb . Although, I wasn't exactly at my ideal weight before pg so maybe I don't need to gain as much in the way of fat stores

thedame71 · 20/10/2004 13:45

Hi there, had my scan yesterday. Everything fine with baby! Found what it is...

The only slight hiccup is that the placenta is low. I had this with my first pregnancy and by 34 weeks it had moved up but this time it is particially over the cervex. The midwife said I have to be prepared that it may not move so that will mean a CS.

Theres nothing I can do about it so will wait until scan at 36 weeks and see then!

thedame71 · 20/10/2004 13:46

Yes I know its a baby... meant to say ' found out what sex it is!"

NewYorktoLondon · 21/10/2004 14:37

Great to hear about everyone's scan.
So thedame71 are you keeping the sex a secret?

Have my 20 week scan in about a week and a half. It is very exciting, though I am a little nervous as well. Just hope that everything is alright and growing!

Londonmummy - I've gained about 10 pounds I think ... at 18/19 weeks. It feels to me like alot more since I haven't be exercising like I use to - I feel very mushy. My bump is finally/ sort-of starting to show - but still don't think anyone would know.

I have a question for those of you who are working - when are you stopping? I was just talking with the woman that I'm taking my ante-natal classes with and she's suggested that I stop at 34 weeks. This seems completely crazy to me. I was planning on stopping at 37 weeks (3 weeks before my EDD). Curious to hear what others are planning.

Pidge · 21/10/2004 14:49

Hi NewYorkToLondon - it's great when you begin to get a bump isn't it. Mind you this time round I am rather terrified by the size of mine, I already look 6 months pregnant! Gulp.

Personally I'm planning to work until 1-2 weeks before my due date. I finished at 38 weeks last time round, and dd was a week late, so I was kind of twiddling my thumbs. I think the decision depends a lot on a) how you feel in late pregnancy (which is a bit of lottery) and b) what kind of job you do. Mine is office based, sitting down all day. The only pain is my one hour twenty commute each way, 35 minutes of which is currently on a bicycle! Don't think I'll still be pedalling at 8 months pregnant.

popsycal · 21/10/2004 14:51

Well
went back to gp today and my bp has bizarrely gone down to 120/60!!! WTF
Never in my life has it been so LOW!!

Anyway - I am signed off for another 2 weeks - half term week and then one more week. So back to work on 8th November I guess.

Pidge · 21/10/2004 14:52

poppsycal - that is great news!

Nice that you've got holiday and then another week off anyway.

popsycal · 21/10/2004 14:53

Not sure what my bp is doing to be honest!

LOL!

ZoeC · 21/10/2004 15:12

I'm hoping to work to about 36/37 weeks. Maybe I'm leaning more towards 36 (I did 37 last time) as I'm finding I'm much more tired this time round - it didn't occur to me that having a toddler full time, and then working 6pm-10pm 4 evenings a week is actually longer hours than full time used to be!

Londonmummy05 · 21/10/2004 16:07

My 20 week scan yesterday was fine, it was so nice seeing the little one again-it's grown. It was so funny because it was being naughty (already) and was facing downwards towards my pelvis and refused to turn around no matter how much my tummy was prodded! I nearly had to go back after my mid wife appointment but it finally cooperated so got some nice shots. My midwife said it looks like a very active baby, she's had 4 and said the 2 that were active in the womb were the same once they were born and the other 2 were calm inside and out- guess we're in for a real fun ride!

We didn't find out the sex, my midwife wasn't going to come in with us becasue she was afraid she'd be able to tell the sex and let it slip by accident, but I didn't mind, everyone tends to call babies he or she even when they don't know the sex so it should be ok. I have to go back in 3 weeks time for another scan because the sonographer thought that the leg measurments might be a bit on the small side for the dates we have and she thinks I should have waited a week or so before I went for this scan.

My due date is March 7th but when I went for my 12 week scan the dr said it was more like March 10th- which makes sense as my cycle was 33 days long but he didn't think it was worth changing if it was less than a weeks difference. Anyway, so the baby looks fine, thank god and it was a great bonding experience.
Dh met my midwife Jenny and thought she was great and we showed him where i'd be giving birth and the room for postnatal and stuff. This feels so real now!

I really felt as if I had a proper bump for the first time today. i was shopping with my mum and people were being so nice, sales assistants were calling me darling and little old ladies were giving me right of way in the supermarkets (role reversal or what!) The only freak out so far was this morning when I though I was about to faint. I haven't felt sick or faint throughout the 20 weeks so it was scary but lucky I was at my parents and my mum helped, I think it must be my Blood pressure I hear what you're saying popsycal last appointment my midwife said it was low and that I shouldn't get up too quickly or rush around (both of which i did this morning) but when she checked yesterday it seemed ok, I guess it was a good excuse for a sugary tea and Krispy kreme doughnut
can't wait until the baby show tomorrow I made dh leave work early so i wouldn't be squished by all the crowds at the weekend but he's only given me from 2pm and it shuts at 5pm so being the saddo that I am, I've gone through the exhibitor lists and taken down all the stand numbers i want to go to shouldn't be that big in Olympia though, any of you girlies going? Hope you;re all well.

Pidge · 21/10/2004 16:22

Hi londonmummy05 - great news about your scan. I am getting very jealous of everyone, I have to wait till 23 weeks for mine!

On the blood pressure front - totally recognize that feeling, I am finding everything goes black every time I stand up. I have to be really, really careful. My bp was 85/50 last time I went in. It just means you need to stand up slowly, and if you feel faint just sit down anywhere you can, even if it's on the pavement!! So far though, haven't had any problems when I've been cycling which is good, as I don't fancy falling under a bus!

thedame71 · 21/10/2004 21:11

I am having a girl after 2 boys!!!!! I am delighted!

I working up to week 35/36 and I am taking a year off definately, possibly even longer. After going back to work within 6 months with both my boys I am ready to have a break for a while. Also I don't really like my job so want to use the time to think of something different to do!

I also have put on 10 pounds so far at 20 weeks.

x

bonym · 21/10/2004 21:25

Congrats thedame - you must be thrilled! Glad to hear your scan went well Londonmummy. I have decided to finish as early as poss. (i.e. 11 weeks before) as I am just feeling so tired this time around - 1st time I finished 3 weeks before but I'm 7yrs older now! Can I ask how often everyone is havin antenatal appointments? I have only seen my midwife once at my booking appointment and she told me to make my next appointment at 26weeks. I seem to remember I was being seen about once a month last time around. Anyway, I have booked to see her next week (at 19 weeks) because I think another 7 weeks is too long to wait. What do others think? Hope everyone else is doing ok.

munchkinsusie · 22/10/2004 09:11

londonmummy05 - glad to hear the scan went well. i've got mine on wednesday and just can't wait.
pidge - that is a low bp. mine is about 110/60. of course, sitting down on pavements means you ahve to figure out a way to stand up again when you get bigger (images of a tortoise on it's back come to mind)!
i think i'm going to work up to week 36 - not that my boss has asked me yet and we don't need to tell them until 15 weeks before do we? this is a good time to stop for me anyway because my mum is coming down for a week so i'll want that time with her anyway. if i'm feeling fine i could always take that week as leave and work afterwards?

i'm suffering with a sore hip at the moment. i can't figure out what's causing it, but this morning i'm beginning to suspect it's something about how i'm sleeping. i've got a bad back so suspected that first but i've seen my physio who always puts it right and she said that she was surprised i was in so much pain for the amount my back was out (ie not as much as ususal!) and i'm on anti-biotics for a UTI so i assumed the pain was in my kidneys from this. but there was no pain last night before i went to bed but it came back in the night and i'm rather sore this morning. maybe i should try putting a pillow between my legs - maybe i've got pulling on my hip?? anyone got any other ideas - i can't put up with this for another 20 weeks!

misdee · 22/10/2004 09:30

i've got another scan on monday. i am seeing so much of this baby!!

can really feel movements now. was watching my belly (instead of the tv) last night, and swear i saw my belly move when it kicked upwards, instead of down onto my bladder. sorted through a bag of baby stuff last night, am gonna try and get the babies rooms sorted out this weekend, its currenly a dumping ground, and i did say i'd get this place sorted b4 xmas. just have to do the babies room, bathroom and kicthen. plus a little bit of finishing off in the hallway and living room.

thedame71 - congratulations! You must be so excited.
And Londonmummy, so happy for you that your scan went well. And now that you know that everything is alright - it will be exciting for you to go back so soon to see it again.

Pidge - be careful on that bike

Thanks for all of the feedback on when everyone is thinking about stopping working - I think I'm going to plan on stopping at 36 weeks unless I start to feel too tired or get too big. I suppose I can always work something out to work from home a few days a week, or drop down to 4 days a week - during that last month.

I have my 20 week scan a week from next Tuesday - I'm a little sad because my dh it going to be traveling that day and won't be able to join me. We decided to have another scan privately a few days later to help him connect.

steppemum · 23/10/2004 11:36

Hi everyone, wow, I haven't been online for a few days and SO much is happening on this thread, I can't keep up! Thanks for the round up pidge, there are a lot of us aren't there?
bonym, judging by ds, you will probably have your baby home and settled while I am still waiting for mine to appear, I'm sure we'll have some surprises with who goes first!

We are going to try and have a scan next week. (we live in central Asia, so not quite like popping down to the local hospital) they do have scanners in the maternity hospital, but then you have to be "in the system" we we have no intention of doing. So, we've discoverd a private clinic which we think will do it, and we'll give it a go next week. I'm really excited, we've decided to find out if it is a boy or girl, (I was SOOO against this with ds, but now I really want to know) but we aren't telling anyone, we're not even going to tell them that we know!!

I'm getting a few more movements now, but still really faint compared to ds, but then when he was born he was really active, and a girl in my NCT group had a baby that never seemed to move in the womb, and when she was born she was very quiet and still too, so maybe this one is just a calmer personality!!

weight wise I've only put on about 2 pounds, as I lost about 4 pounds in the first 3 months, (not sick, just nothing tasted the same) At the same time I'seem to have had a huge bump for ages, very odd sensation, trousers getting loose around the bum and tight across the tummy!!!

sweeney · 24/10/2004 20:15

went to the baby show at olympia today, bought a thing you can listen to the baby on and play it music - couldn't really decipher any noises, i'm 19 weeks today and it's abit early but hopefully soon! beginning to feel nervous about scan on 4th nov. hope you all had a good weekend?

Pidge · 25/10/2004 09:26

So exciting to hear of everyone's scans. Congrats thedame on your little girl!

I just had a lovely weekend with my dd (age 2.3) being adorable, and we met quite a few babies who she was absolutely fascinated by. Long may it continue! Also feeling very demob happy, as I'm only in work for 2 days, then off to Verona with dp and dd for the rest of the week. And I'm finally feeling like the sickness has subsided enough for me to enjoy some lovely Italian food.

misdee · 25/10/2004 09:28

off for another scan this morning. dying for a wee already!!

nashers · 25/10/2004 12:02

Morning!

Hey Sweeney - that machine sounds fab, you will have to keep us all posted...

How exciting you have all been having your scans - I've got mine on 11th November - I'll be nearly 23 weeks then - it was the earliest appointment they had. Am really starting to show now - isn;t it amazing how quickly it happens. Am still getting alot of the 'period' tyupe pains but have them put down to strectching and the likes. Glad to hear you are all well. x

ZoeC · 25/10/2004 14:37

Do you need a full bladder for the 20 week scan? I've forgotten. I'll be 21 and a half weeks by the time I have my scan so wasn't sure if the full bladder was still necessary.

Thanks
