yes zoe you do

and amazing pelvic floor control!

Pidge · 25/10/2004 15:26

Hmmmm ... I thought you didn't! I know you used to need a full bladder with the older scanning technology, but I thought with the new machinery it wasn't necessary. I don't remember from last time ... though I'm not getting mine till 23 weeks.

popsycal · 25/10/2004 15:27

my hospital told me i had to......

who knows lol

Pidge · 25/10/2004 15:31

Better get practising my pelvic floor exercise just in case!! Will let you know if they're needed in a couple of weeks!

Londonmummy05 · 25/10/2004 18:10

Sweeney- I bought the same machine! Couldn't hear mucj either I think it works better in the 3rd trimester

ZoeC- I didn't need a full bladder at queen charlottes.

NYtolondon-n good luck next tuesday, it'll be cool for dh to be at the scan, I was going to go woth my mum for the secoond 20 week scan cause I though dh wouldn't want to go again but he's dying to see the little one again!

DH felt the baby kick for the first time on Saturday night, I've been feeling it for a few weeks but it's getting stronger and stronger so I got dh to put his hand on my tummy when there was some activity and baby must have known cause it was a massive kick! Dh was so happy.

I went to my first yoga class today it was so amazing, I nearly fell asleep, it's for 2 hours and the last half hour is just for tea and discussions, I loved it and have signed up to go every week. It;s called Lolly Stirk yoga and I would definitely recommend it.

Misdee- hope your scan went well and hope all you other girls are doing well.

misdee · 25/10/2004 18:13

scan went ok. needed a very full bladder as last time the baby bureid its head down and they couldnt get the measurements.

wierd thing. i dont have to see community midwife till i'm 31 weeks. i would usually see them from around now, but as i have blood tests, anti- d jabs etc at the clinic until beginning dec, then i dont have to see community midwife till 31 weeks.

Hi eevryone, haven't posted on this thread for ages as I was feeling low and didnt have anything interesting or positive to say and didn't want to spoil the thread for others.

For those who didn't see my other threads, I was feeling deeply depressed for a while then started to feel better but didn't go on computer as too tired and busy. Managed to get son to stop night feeds for a while but now he is feeding often again even tho he is over 9 months old and I have thrush in my breasts so a bit fed up.

Haven't had a 20 week scan, am still waiting for appointment but because so soon after having son been giving different dates so don't really know how far along I am

misdee · 26/10/2004 18:42

welcome back milkybarkid.

hope your feeling abit brighter now.

cant belive how close in age your 2 will be. your a braver woman than me.

have u started looking for double buggy etc yet? thats always daunting. i used one for six month with dd1+2 but found it so heavey that i just got dd1 walking everywhere. might get a cheap 2nd hand one this time, then resell it on ebay.

Hi milkybarkid - glad you're feeling a bit better. Hope everyone else is doing ok. I'm looking forward to my 19week scan on Friday - hoping to find out the sex. Had a chat to my midwife on Monday about having a home birth - she was really positive about it which was great so as long as pg progresses well I think I will definitely go for it. Would like to hire a birthing pool as well although not sure what type to go for. Anyone else planning a home birth?

sweeney · 27/10/2004 17:28

bonym- we're not going for a home birth but hopefully a water birth at the hospital- but i think it's a wonderful thing to do. it seems the most natural somehow.

bonym · 27/10/2004 21:50

I agree - I wanted a water birth 1st time and when I got to the hospital they put me in a room that had a pool but I was never offered the opportunity to get into it (they didn't even fill it) and I was in such pain in the end that I begged for an epidural. This is the reason I want a home birth this time around - I was coping with labour fine at home but as soon as I got to hospital I felt out of control and couldn't cope. Although, tbh I probably wouldn't have opted for a home birth with my first anyway.

ZoeC · 28/10/2004 09:29

boneym - I'm planning on a hb this time - don't fancy waterbirth, but I'd definately prefer being at home if I stay low risk.

Dd is still using the buggy so I've got a sling and a wilkinet to use for the baby until dd gives up the buggy voluntarily - never did fancy a double buggy, but dd is 2 already so may not be using it for much longer anyhow.

sweeney · 28/10/2004 09:49

zoec- i,ve been looking at the wilkinet online. any advice on whether the cord or the cotton is better?

ZoeC · 28/10/2004 11:06

sweeney - I've not tried both - I've just got a blue and white striped cotton one really cheap off ebay (£6.50 + £2.50 postage). I don't suppose there's much difference really - I read that in hotter places the cotton would be better as cord is warmer, and as we're due March maybe I'd lean towards cotton?

There are loads on ebay if you're interested. Everyone I know that's used one says they're okay up to about 6 months but then get less comfy - things like the ergo are better then - so I didn't want to spend too much, and then I can sell it on again.

munchkinsusie · 28/10/2004 11:12

i had my scan yesterday and it was just amazing. the detail is fantastic and i'm glad to report everything was as it should be. baby was pretty active during the scan giving a big yawn at one point which was so cute! the wierd thing is that ever since the scan it's been much more active which has been great. it was dh's birthday yesterday and he had the best present ever when he felt two great big kicks for the first time. only negative point about yesterday was we went out for dinner to one of our favourite places to celebrate dh's birthday. it's a chinese seafood place and was as yummy as ever (all seafood cooked of course). the problem was i was up half the night with diarrhea, but no sickness. i think it was all just too much for my digestion to cope with - do you think i should be telling my midwife today so she can check everything is ok or not worry about it?

sweeny - i'm hoping for a waterbirth at the hospital. or at least to labour in the pool if not give birth. i'm going to stay flexible though and take it as it comes as i'm very aware that i don't really know what i'm letting myself in for!

bonym · 28/10/2004 15:10

Hi munchkinsusie - great to hear that your scan went well - can't wait for mine tomorrow. I wouldn't worry too much about the diarrhoea, you're probably right in thinking it might have been too much for your system - I have been finding that if I eat anything too spicy or rich then it upsets my stomach. We went over to France at the weekend and had a 3 course meal on Saturday night and my tummy's not been 100% right since. Unless it continues I wouldn't be too concerned.

milkybarkid · 28/10/2004 18:11

zoe c,

I have neveer got aon with slings, and I spent a fortune, buying lots of different ones, tomy, mothercare, wilkinet, huggababy (awful) and none felt comfy so will have to get a double buggy but am dreading it.

I am afraid that ds will beat up the baby in a side by side one ! and also these sort dont lie properly flat altho they are meant to be suitable for newborns. Tandems do lie flat at the back, but are so heavy, and once the new abby is older he or she would want to see out more. Im not very strong so I need one as light as poss. Mamas and opaaps do one only 7.4 kg or something like thgat and I dont think I could manage much heavier than hat with two children and especially with shopping too.

sweeney · 28/10/2004 18:17

thanks for that zoeC, i'll check ebay out.
so glad all hunkydory munshkinsusie. mine is next thurs...scarey/exciting. i don't think the trots can harm the baby, but might as well tell medwife.
boneym, isn't it your 19week scan tomorrow? how you feeling? good luck

bonym · 29/10/2004 09:24

Oh - thankws Sweeny -we're just off in 10 minutes for the scan - guess I'll have to have a couple of glasses of water first!±

bonym · 29/10/2004 11:06

Just got back from scan - cried all the way home as I feel so happy and relieved that she (yes, she!!) has all the relevant bits in all the right places! I think I have been feeling anxious all week but I can relax now that I know everything seems to be ok. I don't remember worrrying so much with no.1. We are also thrilled that the sonographer was fairly certain she could see girl's "bits" as we were hoping for another girl. DD will be so excited when we tell her, she is desperate for a sister! I'm going to be all day! Well must go and ring mum & dad to let them know!

sweeney · 29/10/2004 14:38

congratulations. bonym...it's all so moving and fantastic.
my scan next week and the tension is certainly building!

bonym · 29/10/2004 21:19

Thanks Sweeny. Hope yours goes well next Thursday - look forward to hearing about it.

Pidge · 01/11/2004 09:43

milkybarkid - really good to see you back - I know lots of people here have been thinking about you, and I hope you're feeling better.

I'm a big fan of the wilkinet myself - but I know a lot of people find them fiendish. I needed a bit of practice to be able to get it on myself, but then it was so comfy. Am hoping I'll be able to use it this time round, as dd is not keen on walking! She will walk about 10 paces and then wraps herself around my legs and says "Mummy carry you" (she's a bit confused about 'me' and 'you'!).

Just back from 5 day hols in Italy, which was lovely. Really nice food. And one night I even had a glass of wine, and really enjoyed it!

Now nearly 23 weeks and get my scan on Friday, can't wait.

milkybarkid · 03/11/2004 17:35

I had my 20 week scan today although not really 20 week because they took a while arranging it, Im about 23 weeks. They said there is a problem with both kidneys and baby could have downs syndrome, I dont know how they could tell me from a normal scan that there was a likelihood of downs syndrome. They have asked me to think about amniocentesis and let them know if I want to have one done.
