Hi everyone!

I too have had pain in my hip, especially the left one, but only when I am sleeping. If I get out of bed and walk around for a while it eases it a bit. But I have tried the whole pillow between the legs thing and it doesn't help. Why is it that we are supposed to sleep on the left side? I know something is wrong with sleeping on my back (that's my normal non-pregnant sleep position) so I am trying to avoid it, but have no idea why the left side is supposed to be best.

As for cramp in the legs, magnesium can help that if you are not already taking it. But you are supposed to bend your foot up to stretch the muscle out as much as possible (not convinced about that though) but don't point your toe, that definitely makes it worse.

As for pelvic floor exercises I also do them at yoga once a week but also don't like the feeling and I am never sure if I am getting the right bit to work so I don't do them otherwise! Is it really bad not to?

We finally moved into a new place at the weekend - it was stressful and for me very tiring, but I am so glad its done and feel much, much happier now - and we have a room for the baby! Great! Anyone started getting baby stuff together and preparing yet or is it still too early. Any advice on that? I don't want to have everything ready too early or end up getting too much, but then on the other side I worry that I am going to be too tired and disorganised if I leave it too late!

i guess you could ask them just to check anti bodie tier at 28 and 34 weeks. then only have one jab after birth of bubs if needed. but i think that goes against new guidelines.

pidge, yes i am having anti-d injections at 28 and 32 weeks and after birth if nesscessery. i had the anti-d after the births of both my dd's, and after dd2 i was also sent for a blood test a month or so later (different health district). I was very caustious over blood products too as was bought up as a jehovah witness, so i looked into it a bit, asked my mum (fountain of knowledge), and decided to have it.

The benfits do outweight the risks, but you have to be happy with your decision.

Welcome shalaa and 3mummy and hullo to everyone else.

Saw my midwife on Friday and completely forgot to take my notes with me! Also forgot to ask her about issuing a Mat B1. So pregnancy brain has definitely set in.

Contrary to what she said earlier in the pregnancy I AM being offered Anti-D at 28 and 34 weeks (due to being rhesus negative), so am now mulling over if I want it or not. Misdee I think you were having these jabs weren't you? Seems like the benefits of getting it outweigh the risks, but am always a bit hesitant about receiving blood products if it's not really necessary.

Hi, new here. I'm expecting my third, I have 2 lovely little girls and am looking forward to our latest addition due the end of March. Had 2 brill pregnancies and am now paying for it with this one!! Plenty of backache, heartburn sickness etc.... I am a bit worried about the pelvic pain I'm getting, having treatment with an osteopath, but was wondering if anyone else suffering too? Apart from all my gripes I am so totally excited and blissfully happy to be having another child. Nice to be here.

Yes i'm suffering from night time leg cramps! Also keep getting cramp in my butt and hip which is very uncomfortable!

Yes i'm booked in to see a therapist in December so hopefully we can get a better understanding of what triggers them off. Either way i'm a fighter and i'm not giving in!!

I also hate the feeling of pelvic floor exercises but i'm trying to do a few everyday, is worth it in the end im sure.

hi shalaa
welcome.... have you ever talked about the panic attacks to a therapist? in my experience of working with people it's good if you can find out the underlying reason for them. anyhow i'm getting bits of heartburn too and a terrible left hip. a little patch of it gets pins and needles, very uncomfortable!
down to 2 half days a week working, and it feels so much better.
as for pelvic floor i do them at yoga and pilates, so 2ce a week, not very much. i hate the feeling.

Hi everyone!

I'm due anytime between the 27th Feb and the 2nd March 05 (keep getting different dates). I'm 25 in May and my DH is 33, this is our first baby. My pregnancy has been ok, not been sick or too tired. Have suffered from panic attacks for a number of years now and they've gotten worse with being pregnant, just hope once i've had baby they will settle down again. Either way i'm trying hard to work through them and not let them ruin my dream of being a mother! I'm based in Derby.

Currently I have heartburn and am starting to feel heavy and tired. Maternity leave starts in 3 weeks and takes me through to next September!

Hi popsycal - you enjoy your time off, sounds marvellous! And at least the bp is stable and not doing anything too worrying.

boneym - so you are nearly a lady of leisure too!! The nice thing about maternity leave before the baby arrives is you (hopefully) get to pamper yourself rotten and have nice treats. I remember three wonderful weeks of doing a bit of swimming, then a bit of snoozing, then lots of trips to cafes to have cake! Oh and painting some shelves too, which was less exciting.

Has anyone else been doing pelvic floor exercises? I have been so lazy this time round - have done a total of about 3! Gulp, am beginning to feel a bit guilty, must remember to do them.

update on me ladies
still on the sick.....7 weeks with another 3 weeks sick note - bp is hovering between normal and the low end of high IYSWIM. Docs worried that if I go back it will send bp shooting up and I will be in hospital......

That almost takes me to the xmas hols.....and i had planned to only go back to work for a week after new year....

I feel quite good though - for the first time this pregnancy, I actually have some energy. Must use these next few weeks productively!

Hi everyone - thought I was doing quite well last few weeks - no symptoms, tiredness lifted, feeling good, but yesterday developed really sore shoulder and neck, feels like I've pulled a muscle or something. Worse today and making it hard to drive as I can't look over my shoulder easily. Didn't connect it with the pregnancy at all but was chatting to a friend this evening who said she had the same thing when pg with her youngest and has suffered on and off ever since. Hope it doesn't last - will have to see the doc otherwise. On a positive note though, I'm finishing work on 22nd Dec and can't wait! It's 11 weeks before my due date so earliest I can finish but am finding the whole pregnancy thing more tiring this time round and work seems like a drag. Am a bit worried that I might get bored though.

Leogaela - you're so right - the variety is huge. Even though you know that in your head, once you've done it once you just imagine you know what it's going to be like second time round! More fool me

Report
Leogaela · 24/11/2004 14:35

I don't know about pregnancy symptons being worse second time round but I think every pregnancy is probably different even for the same mother. I think the bump gets bigger ealier second time round cos the muscles and everything stretch more easily.
I really have no idea what is a normal bump at this stage in pregnancy and am really curious so I had a look a the belly pictures (!!!!!) on a website yesterday. I was amazed at how different the shapes and sizes are for people in the same week! Some looked HUGE and others hardly looked pregnant at all!

Report
Pidge · 24/11/2004 14:03

I read somewhere recently that pregnancy symptoms are supposed to be worse second time round. Don't know if it's really true, or if it's incremental with each pregnancy, heaven forbid. It's certainly my experience - sickness was worse and lasted much longer, indigestion is constant, tiredness more marked, waking at night to pee more often!!

Having said all that I do feel generally pretty good - still doing my cycling to and from work, and trying to walk up the stairs to my 3rd floor desk. Plus dashing about after dd, I must say!

The really disconcerting thing this time round is how BIG I am. I had 5 people yesterday ask me when my due date was, only to gulp in surprise! I'm only 5'4" and frankly this bulge is going to have my toppling over frontwards pretty soon. Am hoping the bub has been having a growth spurt and will now mellow out, slow down and quit bulging!

Report
Leogaela · 24/11/2004 13:37

Also no heart burn or leg problems. But still my bump is often really really hard which is quite uncomfortable and when I sit for a while it gets painful. Magnesium supplements and pregnancy yoga seem to be helping a lot though!

Zoe C, I had a really bad week last week and I am sure it was just because I was exhausted (and no 2 year old for an excuse). It sounds as if you could do with a good rest and some time to catch up with yourself. Can you find someone to take care of the 2 year old while you have some time to rest?

Report
Londonmummy05 · 23/11/2004 17:07

Hi Zoe C, poor you, I can imagine it must be so much more difficult if you have other children already, hope you get a chance to chillout before January, I've been getting really weepy too for no reason at all, I was bawling at the last episode of the OC last night! I don't think you;re alone on that one. I haven't got heartburn yet but legs feel a bit restless too, wander what the new symptom for us will be tommorow ;)

Report
ZoeC · 23/11/2004 16:47

Hi,

Symptoms - heartburn and restless legs are my two main ones I'd say. Constant fatigue (but I blame my 2 year old personally and the more tired I am, I can get very weepy. Twinges of pelvic pain that I'm desperately trying to stop becoming full SPD.

I'm honestly finding it harder work second time round and I wasn't expecting that.

I'm stopping work on 5th January - its about 9 weeks before I'm due but I can't keep on like I am doing - I'm definately overdoing things and something has to go.

Sorry - wasn't expecting that to become a moan but I think it reads a bit that way.

Hi girls,
So sorry haven't written for ages, don't really use my computer as much as before, I've come back to my old office for a week to cover for someone so it's easier this week, but I've been reading all your posts and keeping up with how you're all doing ;)

nothing interseting is really up with me- another reason for not posting and boring you all! I'm feeling great and loving being pregnant (most of the time) I'm 24 weeks now and look preggers so evryone seems to be really nice all of a sudden! I still go to pregnancy yoga every Monday which is great and see my Midwife quiet often, I can see it geting uncomfortable the bigger i get but It's all part of the experience I guess! Can't wait until Christmas, i'm trying to stock up on pressies and decorations now before the rush, I'm a huge christmas lover and intend to make the most of my last christmas as the baby, I know it will be even greater with a little baby next year but feel i need to have one final christmas fest for me this year!

just think once christmas is over we'll only have two more months and then we're nearly there ( for those of us due at the beginning of March)

I was getting really bored and restless at home so it;s great coming into work and seeing all my old friends, I wish I'd worked throughout it makes time go by faster and maternity leave all the more special

the only problem I have a the moment is that dh has strted snoring, he never used to and it's bad enough tryong to go to sleep pn my left side without him snoring in my ear- I guess with that and needing the loo every five mins I'm being prepared for the baby keeping me up all night. I had a scan at 23 weeks as the 20 week wasn't clear and the baby had already moved into position! So pushing head on bladder, but it can still move so no guarentees it will stay the right wayup.

What symptoms has everyone been having? It helps reading books and mags and looking at this site becasue you know what to expect and what's normal and it makes you feel a bit better about it

Hope you're all doing well and I'll try to keep you posted more often...

this time i'm not working so no need to worry.

but with dd1 i took 3 weeks of holiday first which was owing, and then started my mat leave, so i effectively left work 5 weeks b4 dd1 was born. she arrived bang on date.

I;d work as late as possible as you really do need the time after the bubba is born imo. but maternity leave and pay has changed a lot since i had dd1. think SMP was 60quid then. and only had 16 weeks leave as well.

aku - well I'm working till 2 weeks before due date, but I don't think I'd be doing that with twins!! One thing that is worth remembering though is that it's easier to bring your end-date forward than it is to push it later. So if you're feeling fine you could give them a late-ish date, and then you can stop earlier if you need to. I guess you're less likely to go to term anyway with twins, so make sure you allow enough time for some nice resting at home before the babies turn up.

Misdee, for someone who spent her first pregnancy rolling off a mattress on the floor, I fully know the joys of a good new bed. Enjoy! When is everyone thinking of stopping work, I have till sometime in December to let my people know and I can't make up my mind. Everybody keeps saying with twins I should stop as early as possible but so far I feel fine. What do you guys think?
