@Bawbles do you mean knickers or trousers you're struggling with? I agree jeans are tricky, I got 2 pairs of maternity ones in the bundle I bought and definitely prefer one style over the other, but also I also got some low rise elasticated waistband jeans just in a normal size 10 which work really well for me.

@Lallypopstick how's your throat feeling?

We went to an expectant parent event at Mamas & Papas today. Would recommend if there's one near you, it was pretty good. Had to book online in advance (free though) & there were talks and demos on baby first aid, hypnobirthing, car seat safety, prams, sleep safety & nursery set ups and gadgets. The talks were spread over the store and just kept repeating so you could do the ones you fancied. We did them all except prams. It was 10-12 and they provided as many drinks as you wanted (fresh orange juice and bottled water) and got a freebie fabric shopper bag which had a cute baby grow and bib in it and a £10 mamas and papas giftcard (no minimum spend, an actual giftcard), so it was a good morning Smile Also had 10% off everything but we didn't end up buying anything, already have most of what we need. Will save the voucher for when we're buying clothes a bit bigger bc it's valid til summer 2018

Bawbles · 02/04/2017 21:17

@danigrace knickers are the problem, my bump is low and all my pants just roll down. I usually wear seamfree briefs or shorts but everything just rolls down under my bump.

Clothes are fine, I wear overbump skirts or dresses. I don't wear trousers or jeans ever.

We went to the mamas and Papas event today too. I've been to three of them so far and each time get the goody bag/voucher. We took dp parents to one as they wanted to buy something for baby and got the 10% off and my mum came to another.

danigrace · 02/04/2017 22:43

@Bawbles go you with the voucher gathering! Have you been to one of the mothercare ones? Thinking of going next weekend. I bought a couple pairs of these knickers feeling a bit dubious about how the quality/fit would be but they're great so I ordered a few more! Read that the sizes can be a little small, I'm a 10 and bought a medium and they fit perfectly www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142218278894

glitterglitters · 03/04/2017 08:46

I was just wondering what breast pumps people have got/are looking to get. I'm not planning on expressing much at all so an electric would be wasted on me. This would be more for occasional use later on and also to help baby latch at the beginning if need be.

danigrace · 03/04/2017 08:58

@glitterglitters do you mean to just get a tiny bit off so the baby can smell it? If so you could hand express for that? If you aren't planning on expressing much until later it may be worth holding off on this particular purchase and buying if you decide you want one rather than adding to every mum's pile of 'things I didn't need' lol.
We got an electric (the swing) bc I'm planning on using it a lot bc DP and I run our own business together and plan to totally share the baby care and working, looking forward to seeing how that works out!

Lallypopstick · 03/04/2017 09:32

@danigrace I went to a mothercare event and wasn't as impressed as the Mamas and Papas one, though we did use the 10% to get a lot of our stuff. It was a bit too much of a hard sell at the talks we went to which put me off. Unless you have a specific interest in anything they have on, I'd say go, get the goody bag and voucher, then leave. The voucher lasts for 2 weeks anyway.

@glitterglitters - my friend recommended the Haakaa breast pump to me. She said you can just wear it on one side when you're feeding on the other side and some milk will come out of the non-feeding side too. Not sure if this is what you're looking for though.

My sore throat has developed into a cold and I just want to stay in bed, but I'm at work plodding on.

LuciBee231015 · 03/04/2017 11:44

@danigrace I've ordered some of this knickers from amazon! I ordered them yesterday.

@glittersglitters I plan to breast feed if I can but not going to think about pumps until baby is here. Will see how I get on first. If I do express it won't be until about 2-3 months in so I will just get one at that point.

TinklingTheIvories · 03/04/2017 14:26

@glitterglitters I'm hopefully going to be expressing once bf has been established so that dp can share the load, and I can shower etc. Haven't event thought about pumps yet but I think hand pump will be the best for us. Maybe. Need to do more research I guess!

glitterglitters · 03/04/2017 15:23

Thanks guys. I'm mainly looking for something to deal with the engorgement at the beginning as I hate hand expressing. I had to express slightly in the early days to help dd latch. Hand expressing just left me feeling battered and bruised after.

I'd just express a touch (not ounces and ounces) and then put it in her bath later or on her cradle cap that day. Dd also slept quite well in the early days and once she was back to birth weight it was good to have on hand in case she had a mammoth snooze.

She was a bottle refuser my first one so I'm apprehensive to spend ££££ when I sincerely doubt the second one will be any better lol.

glitterglitters · 03/04/2017 15:24

Also @TinklingTheIvories best advice for a shower if dp isn't there is a cheap bouncer seat. They are fab for putting down baby when you need the loo or a shower 😬😬😬

LuciBee231015 · 03/04/2017 16:03

Does anyone have any experience with maternity pads for after birth, which ones would you recommend?

Notyetthere · 03/04/2017 17:20

Luci watching you tube videos most of ladies take the boots own maternity pads. I plan on taking whichever shop I end up when buying things for hospital bag. If I end up in sainsburys then I will buy whatever they have available that day.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 03/04/2017 17:22

On that note - when are you all planning to pack your hospital bag? Is 30 wks too early? 1st timer here so very keenGrin.

OP posts:
LuciBee231015 · 03/04/2017 17:24

So anywhere does them then? I didn't know! Cool, so I can just pick them up from anywhere when I'm starting the hospital bag.

When do you all plan on packing yours? I was thinking 35 weeks?

A lady's water broke at work last week, my worst nightmare!

natienka · 03/04/2017 17:26

Hellloooooo.... back from my babymoon! Had to share this pic ;)

Thank goodness for that break as I started buy SO MUCH before going, and now chilled out a bit. But we're having new windows installed the next few days which are just gorgeous, and after that can paint the nursery and start putting things together nanana....

25w MW appointment this Thursday. Is it a good time to discuss birth options already?

how's everyone doing? :)

I have whatever is in the cupboard. Tesco and Asda do their own brands too and they are cheap as chips. Just make sure you buy a few as you will need to change them regularly. I swapped to heavy flow pads after a while as it does literally feel like walking with a mattress between your legs. 🙊 Also I'd stick a few in the freezer and get some arnica for healing too.

I'm going to pack my bag at about 34ish weeks. I'd do it now but I'd repack it a million times. I took a huge suitcase last time and I wasn't even in 10 hours 😂

That's such a a gorgeous photo @natienka I'm pretty set on my choices already but last time I never even did a birth plan. It just never got brought up in my mw appointments. 🙊

I'm definitely having that conversation though this time round as there are a few things I'm quite adamant about (though understand that things can change) like delayed cord clamping, skin to skin straight away (even if c section etc), weight after first feed, pool if possible, nothing but gas and air where possible.

natienka · 03/04/2017 17:56

Sounds like pretty much all choices I would be down for. Why weight after feed though? that may take a day or two. Out of interest.

glitterglitters · 03/04/2017 18:01

Oh sorry i hadn't written that very clearly. 🙈😂 I don't want them being taken to be weighed etc until I've given them their first feed. So literally skin to skin and latch on asap from when they are born (after a quick cuddle from dh and a nappy on). It's supposedly called the "golden hour" and it's to do with scent and oxytocin etc. Dd wasn't weighed till she was about 4 hours old because they just made sure she was ok and left her be. They did a few checks obviously but did it from observing rather than carting her off. This was in a midwife led unit. A lot of fr

glitterglitters · 03/04/2017 18:06

Oops pressed a button there. A lot of my friends had their babies bloods and sugars monitored immediately and ended up being told "their blood sugar is too low" "baby is very tired" "they need to have formula now to regulate them" "need to layer them up in clothes and a hat immediately" when they are things (according to a few Midwives i know) that probably would have levelled out within an hour or so, however because they were immediately checked they weren't given a chance and were identified as problems. This is however totally based on my own experience, friend's first hand experiences and is totally dependant on a lot of factors. I'm also not a hcp so don't quote me on this. ☺️

rhodes2015 · 03/04/2017 18:19

What a gorgeous pic nat glad you are feeling all chilled now!

I have started picking up bits for hospital bag but not packed anything. id like it to be sort of ready for 30weeks. I'm a bit keen too not Grin
luci i got boots maternity pads as I had ordered some makeup online so just added a few bits in for hospital too. But otherwise I would have got them from anywhere. They are big Grin!! They were 3 for 2 so I got 3packs.

natienka · 04/04/2017 07:05

Thanks everyone :)

Asaarrrgh leg cramps omg!!! Hurts so much, only started a week ago on hols ... could it be the flight? I did wear those sexy compression socks... what can help with it? After the horrible initial pain I've then got muscle pain for the next few hours.

glitterglitters · 04/04/2017 07:09

Worst nights sleep ever last night. I just could not get comfortable. 😭

ButterflyFree · 04/04/2017 12:04

Wait what...?! You're thinking of packing your hospital bags already?! I STILL haven't bought a single baby-related item yet 😅😅😅 you're all putting me to shame 😩

@natienka What a beautiful picture... so glad you enjoyed your babymoon.

Regarding maternity pads, a few of my friends recommended these to me as they are chemical-free and therefore less likely to cause any skin irritation - which we definitely wouldn't want on top of everything else we'll be dealing with down there!

Due July 2017 #4 …… Well into 2nd Trimester! 20 Week Scans and Bumps Galore
TinklingTheIvories · 04/04/2017 13:27

@ButterflyFree you're not alone. We've only brought a pram/pushchair as it was an absolute bargain on shpock. MIL has started buying though which made me panic a bit!!

Imaginarymenagerie · 04/04/2017 13:38

I got a 4 pack of the natracare pads from Amazon, was surprised by how huge the packs are! That's the only thing I've got for my maternity bag so far. Feeling like i need to get a bit more stuff sorted though!
