I kind of wish I could do another NCT course this time. I wasn't fortunate enough to have a group that I helped with (though probably says more about me than them 😜) and dh felt out of his depth when they guys were all talking about unwinding with a glass of wine and stressful meetings (he's more a pint and covered in oil job). I loved the lady who took ours though and I really learnt an awful lot from her. I got really annoyed at a few of the ladies on the course who slagged her off.

Word of advice though. When you do the nappy changing task try and get the further right nappy 🤣😏

Mawita · 29/03/2017 09:00

Hallo all!

Back from not so sunny Spain, it was very relaxing but no sunshine. :(

Kept thinking that the Maldives would have been sunnier :) however my body can't cope with flights suffering badly from coxis pain after the 2 hours return flight.

My bump is definitely bigger than most of yours... I won't worry about it as I have finally come to terms with its size. After many people's comments.

Baby is moving loads! But he goes quiet for Daddy so he hasn't been able to feel him yet. :(

@glitterglitters I use almond oil mixed with vitamin e oil and lavender in the evening and grapefruit in the mornings.

The lavender helps me sleep and relax, I have very vivid dreams/nightmares otherwise.

In terms of pregnancy pillows I have a V shape mothercare one which is doing the job just fine, in fact my DH is convinced I love it more than him...

And finally bump pic attached I am 23+5, I have shortness of breath and feeling super tired. Bring on the weekend!

Xx

Ooh I have some almond oil left over from df's cradle cap. I'll give that a try. And your bump is lovely!

I'm pretty big tbh. I'll try and get a snap later after I clean my mirror lol :)

danigrace · 29/03/2017 19:11

Lovely bumps girls!

@Bawbles haha I do prenatal yoha on a Monday and aquanatal on a Tuesday too! You don't do prenatal pilates on a Thursday do you? Lol. I find they help my back/pelvis too

Well I've had one of those realllly busy days whete nothing you set out to do at the start of the day actually got done and I'm lay here wondering how that happened and with a load more work to do but just SO tired...

Notyetthere · 30/03/2017 08:16

I have worked out what is contributing to the lack of sleep in our household. Our mattress is shit! 7yrs old spring pocket with a foam top so you can't even flip it to sleep on the other side. We paid lots of money for it at the time but I think it needs replacing.

I have slept in the spare bedroom the last few days because of the cold and cough and slept with a pillow between my knees. Older bed and spring mattress given to us by our grandparents and no backache at all for 3 days. Moved back into our bedroom last night, pillow between knees and the backache is back. Even dh has been complaining for the last few wks but I didn't take him seriously until last night.

Forget the holiday away somewhere warm, a good night's sleep is becoming more and more important. Off to do some research.

On the above note, what mattresses are you all buying for baby's cotbed? What made you choose that one over the other ones available on the market?

OP posts:
TinklingTheIvories · 30/03/2017 08:20

@Notyetthere we treated ourselves to a new mattress a month or so ago as I wasn't sleeping properly and DH had neck and back problems. Best thing we've ever done. We went for a pocket sprung with over 1000 springs. I'd definitely recommend a new mattress if you've got any form of back or neck ache. We reckon ours was around 10-15 years old!

LuciBee231015 · 30/03/2017 08:48

I got my cot bed mattress from kiddicare, they have a massive selection and good reviews on them as well. I went for a middle of the road one. Really quick delivery too!
They actually have a sale on cot bed mattresses at the moment, so worth a look!

I had a pants sleep last night. I think I was in a light sleep all night as was woken up 5 times by DH mildly snoring and got up 3 times for a wee! 😴

mcnics · 30/03/2017 09:30

Off to N.Ireland today for OH's cousin's wedding on Saturday, so this is as much of a "baby moon" as I'll be getting! A bit nervous to meet ALL of the extended family for the first time and pregnant and obviously can't have a drink to calm the nerves!!

Attached my bump pic from last week when I was 25+2 :)

rhodes2015 · 30/03/2017 10:29

not I got a temperature regulating pocket sprung cot bed mattress from Asda direct when I ordered some other stuff. Delivery/price was good.
mawita I keep getting shortness of breath too, it's horrible.
I just had a scan (26+2) and baby weighs 2lb 3oz and she's gone from head down (cephalic) 3weeks ago to breech extended - pretty sure I felt that turn about a week ago!
She looked like a proper baby on the 4d view!!
Also had transvaginal for cervical measurement which is shorter so have to go back in 2 weeks.
Enjoy your weekend away mcnics!

danigrace · 30/03/2017 10:52

@Notyetthere that's great that you've discovered the source of your bad back/lack of sleep so now you can act on it. Glad you're sleeping better since your new mattress too @TinklingThelvories.
We couldn't afford a new mattress (plus I do like current firm one, just no good for me side sleeping and therefore pregnancy!) but we bought a good 4 inch thick memory foam topper and I looove it.

@LuciBee231015 ugh sorry to hear that. I seem to be getting at least one of those a week too, maybe we're in training!

Enjoy the wedding trip @mcnics - I bet they'll all be extra super nice bc your pg so it's a bonus!! And cute bump ❤

Glad you enjoyed your scan @Rhodes2015 Smile Have you seen the 'spinning babies' website?

Re. cot mattresses I'm lucky in that my sister is giving me hers which she bought less than a year ago and is still in an unused cot in its packing (she ended up co-sleeping and intends to keep it up until 'big girl bed' time).

Notyetthere · 30/03/2017 13:46

Dani we have the memory foam topper but ours is sewn to the mattress. It has sunken sillouettes of where dh and I have slept. Not comfy at all. We are probably going to stick to pocker sprung from now on. The old one from grandparents in the spare bedroom was very comfy so I think that is the way to go.

Notyetthere · 30/03/2017 17:41

I now definitely feel for those who commute by tube! My journey was a short one from London Bridge to Aldgate east but in rush hour, that was a nightmare. The queues of people trying to get down to the platforms and then queueing again to get on the train and then people bashing into your bump bse you are all squished in like sardines. There was a but of relief with a gentle cool as I walked up to Monument for the district line which I will say wasn't packed. Basically avoid northern and central line.

OP posts:
Kitsandkids · 30/03/2017 22:11

I've been very lucky and got a Moses basket free off Facebook and my friend gave me a crib for free that her baby didn't really use. I've bought a new Moses basket mattress from a local baby shop for a fiver. The crib mattress is practically new but I will buy a new one just in case. They're about seven quid in the baby shop I think. We're going to get the bigger cot and mattress from IKEA.

TinklingTheIvories · 31/03/2017 07:44

Really need to start buying things.... painting the nursery over Easter so will do it when we've got somewhere to put things.

Had some massive kicks last night and DH was lucky enough to feel them. He said as a bit freaked out that I feel them a lot and from the inside though. I love them Smile

Started wearing my maternity trousers today - wow. So comfy!!

Kitsandkids · 31/03/2017 08:07

I need some new tops. All my pre pregnancy ones now feel like they've shrunk and are too short when really it's my stomach sticking out! I've been wearing my coat when out and about but if I have to take it off around people I feel like I have to walk around pulling the bottom of my top down!

danigrace · 31/03/2017 10:24

@TinklingThelvories we are also painting over Easter! Lucky enough to get on the velspar mumsnet product test for posh paint so it won't be costing us anything either which is a great bonus!!

I looove my maternity stuff. Been in it a while now, from knickers and bras to dresses, tops, and jeans it's all sooo comfy and flattering.
Bought stuff in sales and got an amazing bundle of almost new stuff (2 jeans/3 tops/shorts/3 dresses all next & asos) on gumtree for £15!!! And have been the lucky recipient of tops, leggings, and dresses from friends too. Bought a few pairs of knickers off ebay (new, just to be clear haha!) and wasn't sure if they'd be the best quality but they're great.

LuciBee231015 · 31/03/2017 13:41

Had my 28 week appointment with midwife this morning. Bloods all good, baby's heartbeat all good. Current position is head down in pelvis and back and bum on my left side, I can actually feel it on that side and if I lay on my back I have a lump where it is laying...cute! She measured my belly too which is bang on target for 28 weeks. Also said I should start to notice a pattern in movement this week and if I don't feel anything all day to try and make baby move, and if no luck call the assessment unit.

The past 2 days I've been feeling extremely nervous. My belly keeps going over. Not sure if it's fear or excitement! Just think it's starting to get close and more and more real now. I just get waves of that anxious feeling in my belly. 😳

Lallypopstick · 01/04/2017 07:34

NCT classes start this morning and I feel so nervous! Only two classes and a breastfeeding one to get through. Wish me luck!

TinklingTheIvories · 01/04/2017 07:35

Good luck @Lallypopstick let us know how it goes. We're booked in for some but not until the start of July. Think it's for the end of July/August due, so I may be one of the first due in my group.

danigrace · 01/04/2017 13:42

Hope you enjoy them @Lallypopstick, no need to be nervous! I've done some before but as a birth partner. Our one's for our pregnancy are in May - yours seem quite late @TinklingThelvories - hopeful you make it to all the dates before baby arrives!

@LuciBee231015 call it excitement and enjoy it Grin It's a weird indescribeable overjoyed/excited/totally terrifying all wrapped into one feeling this expecting a baby thing isn't it??!

rhodes2015 · 01/04/2017 15:12

Hope nct went well today lally let us know how you got on.
luci glad all went well at midwife appointment!
Feel the same, the weeks are really ticking off now aren't they and it all seems very close! Scary but really exciting!

TinklingTheIvories · 01/04/2017 21:16

@danigrace there's only 2 days. I'd gotten a bit muddled in my head, so they're 25/6 and 2/7. Lots of time really. Unless baby decides to show up really early. One of my friends has just had hers at 33 weeks. Eek!!!

My NCT group has just advertised a water birth course in may that I think I'll go to as well, as I'd love a water birth. Right before the baby show at the NEC so going to be a busy weekend for me.

Lallypopstick · 02/04/2017 04:37

Really enjoyed NCT yesterday. I was the one with the latest due date, people were end of May - mid June and I was the only July. We covered quite a lot in the six hours, the bit I found most useful was thinking about what actually happens in labour and how do you know when to go to hospital, then thinking about what might happen in the hours / days after you have a baby. We covered safe sleeping and slings, and postnatal depression too. The course leader was really knowledgable and answered all sorts of questions.

Today I'm up mega early with a sore throat, googling what it's ok to take for it!

Bawbles · 02/04/2017 10:00

not we aren't buying a cotbed/nursery just got the snuzpod so it'll have the standard little green sheep mattress it comes with

We will have lots of building work ongoing when baby arrives, I'm estimating we will decorate baby's room/buy furniture when
A) it's built Blush
B) baby will probably be around 6 months old and ready to move out of our room

Which I'm happy with as I did similar with dd (she stayed in mine until 9 months) so her first room was a toddler room which lasted her until she was 8. We missed the changing unit/nursing chair element completely.

Glad you are enjoying NCT lally

danigrace I've bought lots of maternity pants this time which I didn't need in first pregnancy - all my normal knickers just roll down under my bump. I tried sizing up but they ended up baggy on legs/bum but still digging into bump. It's an ongoing joke with my dp about my quest for comfy pants.
