Congratulations drmum

I'm just plodding along here, half expecting to have started bleeding every time I go to the loo because of how much discharge I've got (which is apparently normal). I am also veering between feeling nauseous (but not actually being sick, except for one-and-a-half times ten days ago - the half was when I was cleaning my teeth afterwards!) and grotty, and then not feeling nauseous so feeling worried that I'm not feeling nauseous!

I'm sure one of my colleagues has twigged because of the amount of lemon & ginger tea I'm drinking (although I switched from coffee at work to tea at the start of the year, and then added fruit teas from mid-afternoon a couple of weeks later so it wouldn't be so obvious when I stopped mainlining coffee a dozen times a day!) but I doubt she'll say anything.

I've got my booking in appointment at the midwife on Thursday (when I'll be 6+4) and I'm going to discuss whether the NIPT is sensible, or whether we should wait to see what the 12 week scan says before spending the money. I am probably going to pay for a scan at 8 weeks though.

Is anyone else likely to be under (or know they will be) a consultant? I'm 90% sure I will be, not only because of my age but I have a couple of chronic medical conditions (Ehlers Danlos Sydrome - Hypermobility and Idiopathic Intercranial Hypertension to name but two!) that may cause issues during pregnancy and/or birth. I'm wondering what difference it will mean in practical terms compared to what the websites/books say is the "norm"? (This is No1 for both DH and I)

powerpuffer · 26/02/2017 23:49

emwithme I'm consultant led due to a heart condition and other issues. The midwife said I will still have all the usual appointments with her but I'll also see the consultant which will mean more scans etc. I'm treating it as a positive as it means I'll hopefully be monitored closely.

missm0use · 27/02/2017 02:58

Congratulations drmum! That's exciting news!

Love Child - same here with the milk! Tried to 'power through' with a cup of tea but was awful and ended throwing it out and checking the milk wasn't out of date! Not sure how I'll manage without a coffee in the morning without milk!

I'm sorry to all the others still waiting for reassurance and lack of symptoms! Thinking of you all. Sorry for disappearing for a few days - been manic with work and DD1.

PlayOnWurtz · 27/02/2017 07:05

I'm under the consultant as I also have Ehlers-Danlos but I also have a history of severe post natal depression and various other issues. I also don't react well to hormones at all and after each miscarriage and also each live birth I've ended up seriously unwell. They want to try and prevent it happening again.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 27/02/2017 07:35

emwithme because you are hyperrmobile you are likely to get spd. Consultant led generally means one or two appointments at the hospital, and usually less birth options, as will be on the labour ward with monitoring rather than birth centres and birth pools. But it's all up for discussion in my experience. I was consultant led for ds1 but they agreed a plan that I wouldn't be allowed to go past 40 weeks, I wanted a home birth and they said if baby hadn't arrived by EDD that I would either have to be induced or have a section. He came early, waters went at 38+5 but ended up being taken to hospital in an ambulance on blue lights and had a cat 1 emcs. Was consultant led ds2 and they wanted me to try vbac, but had said would have to be on a ward throughout and monitored, and they would only allow 30 mins pushing before going for a section. Booked an ELCS with proviso that might try VBAC after examination that morning. Ended up having an ELCS as he went back to back and she said that there was no point breaking my waters as she didn't think he'd come out in time that way lol. She was right. He was a lb heavier than ds1 and wedged in so much they had to use forceps to pull him out, stomach was black for over a month. So sometimes it can be good to be consultant led as the midwives were all "75% of vbacs work" whereas the consultant knew that it wouldn't for me.

PlayOnWurtz · 27/02/2017 07:43

Based on how things went last time for me and reading I've done hypermobile ladies are at higher risk of premature labour and post natally thinks like prolapses are more likely. My si joint has never recovered from my first pregnancy.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 27/02/2017 07:50

Oh and congrats drmum on the twins, here's hoping they stay sticky

Good luck to all the scans this week, so many people on here now that I'm losing track of who is who and what's happening when...

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 27/02/2017 07:53

I am hypermobile wurtz and neither my boys were premature, ds2 was 9lb 3 so he wasn't small with it either. Agree re the sacroiliac joint though, my right one just never sorted itself out after ds1 and then had ds2 within 2 years. It's only the last 6 months or so that it seems to have improved and I haven't had as many problems with it, I think time is the biggest healer.

charmanar · 27/02/2017 07:54

Good luck to everyone with scans today. emvy I thought yours was today as well, you sound like you are doing such a good job of being patient and keeping calm, i'd be a nervous wreck having to wait that long in the unknown.
Currently on the sofa watching the furchester hotel with my DS, unless I feel better later this is what we will be doing all day, feel like such a bad mum!

Zookeeper73 · 27/02/2017 08:00

Well lovely ladies, it seems my time in limbo has ended. Started bleeding last night and have continued today like a heavy period with a couple of small-medium clots. I'm both sad and relieved as I think I'd been waiting for this to happen for 3-4 weeks now. Hopefully it doesn't take us too long to conceive again and the next one is healthy and sticky.

Best of luck with your beans and I hope they all become bumps!

Starfish83 · 27/02/2017 08:10

So sorry, Zookeeper. Hope you have lots of support around you. 💐

Congratulations, DrMum!

To all those with scans today, hope that you have good news. To those in limbo, hope that you're doing OK.

7+2 today.

⭐️ xx

PlayOnWurtz · 27/02/2017 08:15

So sorry to hear that zoo take care of yourself

loopy nor were mine however the research does indicate a risk. My dc are nearly teens and I'm still waiting on my si joint to heal! Grin it's a hard life being a mum isn't it lol

MoominMama22 · 27/02/2017 08:29

Oh Zookeeper I'm so sorry, sending strength Flowers

Lamaitresse · 27/02/2017 08:39

Zookeeper I'm so sorry 😢 Thinking of you and I too hope that the next one is a sticky one. Take care 💐

silkybear · 27/02/2017 08:40

8 + 2 now and off work with constant nausea and the occasional vomming. I forgot how horrendous this bit was but I know from last time the sickness will go by 12 ish weeks. Had booking in appt so just waiting for my scan date. Does a letter come through automatically with a 12 wk date, i can't remember if I need to do anything? Had a previous loss at 11 + 4 so wont relax til the scan really and don't want it to be delayed because I didn't book it myself.

silkybear · 27/02/2017 08:42

Sorry to hear that Zookeeper xx

Tigger83 · 27/02/2017 08:57

Zookeeper I'm sorry for your loss xx

Everyone with scans this week good luck!!

I've been feeling pretty rubbish I know it's just my body reacting to the hormones but seriously! The nausea is definitely there as long as I eat regularly it's bearable, the random headaches are fun to, this weekend my boobs have doubled in size (well that's how it feels lol) and are starting to get more painful, then there's the period pain cramps which keep making me panic that something's wrong and the sore back and hips on and off. Oh and the bloating, farting etc he he I'm a joy to live with!!

I'm a bit anxious anyway but I keep worrying that something's wrong. Especially with the dr saying increased risk of ectopic due to endo!!

Sorry I needed a moan, I don't want to sound ungrateful as I'm so happy

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 27/02/2017 09:34

So sorry zookeeper

tigger I'm with you on the bloated and wind, I have never farted so much in my life, and wasn't anywhere near this bad when pregnant with my boys. I've done nothing to make it worse either, I dot touch fizzy drinks and I haven't eaten baked beans or any brassicas!

Cath1212 · 27/02/2017 09:42

got to love the bloating, I feel like a massive wind bag!!!

The nausea properly kicked in at the weekend, pretty much felt sick 24/7 but definitely seems to get worse in the afternoon and evening, so much for morning sickness. I feel this is going to be a long week at work...

Good luck for anyone who has a scan this week x

Babycarmen · 27/02/2017 10:16

Well I had my scan.

I was convinced everything was going to go badly after a lot of bleeding this weekend..
but no! A tiny little kidney bean with a flashing heartbeat!! And measuring right for my date of 7+2. So relieved I burst into tears.

shellbell2014 · 27/02/2017 10:19

Awwww that's fab news babycarmen

Lovechild2016 · 27/02/2017 10:33

Sorry for sad news zoo take care of yourself.

Really pleased scan was ok babycarmen what a massive relief.

Sorry for sickness and needing to be off work cath I feel for you.

I've got some niggly left sided pain today so went to see GP they've given me antibiotics in case it's a UTI. She told me didn't think it was an ectopic... I hope she is right as haven't had a scan.

10storeylovesong · 27/02/2017 10:39

Brilliant news babycarmen and drmum!

I'm so sorry zookeeper - hope you have people around you to comfort you.

I feel so lazy today. Dh is at work and ds is back at nursery - the house is a mess and I have some work to do at home, and I'm curled up on couch watching box sets. The only time I don't feel like throwing up is when I'm lay completely still. I forgot how hard this stage of pregnancy is, but feel like I should be walking round with a big grin after how long it took us to get here!

sj3rram1 · 27/02/2017 10:49

So sorry zoo 💐 take care of yourself

Congrats to those with good news and good luck to those in limbo.

PlayOnWurtz · 27/02/2017 11:38

OMG I am so tired. Like. Painfully tired. I can't concentrate at work today Sad
