Is anyone else not "out" yet?

My four immediate work colleagues know, but not the whole world. Someone else at work is going on mat leave in a few days and there is so much baby talk! I'm having to stop myself opening my mouth and saying something to give it away.

CatRash · 18/01/2017 20:51

I'm "out" outside of work but keeping quiet at work. I have a lot of friends at work but only told one who was my scape goat at the Xmas party. I dont want to tell work because of upcoming payrises but then again I do feel very deceitful...

Not sure what to do really Confused as some people I work with are friends and I'm basically lieing to them daily!

DaisyQueen · 18/01/2017 21:12

I am not out yet. My mum and oh's mum know as do my brother, sister and best friend but no one else. I'm not even sure why we haven't told more people yet. I want to try and keep it under wraps until the 20 week scan but I'm getting bigger as the days go by so I'm sure people already suspect but don't want to mention incase they think I'm just getting porky

DrewOB0 · 18/01/2017 22:10

I have only told family and a handful of friends.
Anyone found morning sickness worse at 12 weeks? 12+ 4 here and nearly was sick at work this morning. It was sudden,I had no warning to give me time to hide in loo

Notyetthere · 18/01/2017 22:35

I'm out. I just can't be bothered to hide it more. Maybe I am being naive but i don't think it should affect any future pay reviews or otherwise.

On the subject of work, I think I have now drawn up a draft of what I plan to take for maternity leave. Our annual leave runs Jan to Dec and I have 28 days of annual leave left. I will take a few days between now now Easter.

I plan to take about 4days over Easter, combined with the bank holidays that should give me a good wk off. I plan to work from home the 1st 3 wks of June as I suspect the commute will be a nightmare then. I will then take the last wk off as annual leave. Maternity leave will start on 3rd July(EDD). I will take 6 months (full pay limit) and DH will take the 2nd 6months starting from Jan 2018. I will also take 4wks annual leave in Jan so that it overlaps with DH starting shared parental leave. Sort of like a handover (I hate this word) period.

Obviously things could change and baby arrives early or I get unwell way before that I'm forced to take leave sooner but for now I feel I have a plan. DH seems to be slightly concerned that I plan to work till close to EDD.

Drew the nausea calmed down a bit at 12wks but I was sick more often then.

I'm out with everyone now I think, couldn't see any reason not to be!

A bit of a random one but is anybody else experiencing a really sensitive gag reflex? I can't even brush my teeth at the moment without violently gagging and almost throwing up!

Spindelina · 19/01/2017 09:49

thumbs, I'm still waiting for my Down's screening, which is what's stopping me being out. Got my appointment for Saturday, so shouldn't be too long. Really hoping it comes back low risk, otherwise it's going to be more waiting for IONA.

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 19/01/2017 09:58

Spindelina I totally get that, fingers crossed you get good news really soon!

Notyetthere · 19/01/2017 10:20

Thumbs the gag reflex was really bad in the 1st trimester and I threw up at least twice a week but it has improved in the last 2-3wks. For a while I was using kiddy toothpaste as the bitterness of normal ones was horrible. Back to normal now though.

Wearing first pair of maternity tights today, soooooo comfy. I should have moved into these a long time ago when the bloat started. Only £2 per pair from asda.

I also bought a pair of maternity leggings but they are still too big in the belly area but we're comfy everywhere else. I have a couple of colourful joggers that i wear as my scruffs at home and I reckon they will work till baby arrives. I think I am now sorted for comfy clothes.

I've been in maternity tights for the last 2 weeks, I love them! I have leggins and jeans too!

My nausea and gagging stopped at about 14 weeks. I feel the odd bit of nausea sometimes but no where near as bad as it was, and it's only ever the odd morning, not every day all day like it was before.

For mt midwife appointment tomorrow morning, can't wait! 18 weeks tomorrow, seems to be going rather fast now and I have a proper round bump!

Seahawk80 · 19/01/2017 10:53

Had my 16 week midwife appt today. All good and they listened to the heartbeat. Suddenly everything feels really real!

LuciBee231015 · 19/01/2017 10:57

Ah seahawk I can't wait to hear the heartbeat tomorrow! DH. can't make it so I'm going to try and record it.

What else did they do/check if you don't mind me asking?

Seahawk80 · 19/01/2017 12:02

Not much to be honest! Just measured me from belly button to pubic bone, asked if I had any concerns, blood pressure and the usual urine sample! Just to warn you it took a good 2-3 mins to find heartbeat so don't panic!!

LuciBee231015 · 19/01/2017 12:15

Glad you said that, I would have so panicked! Do they start charting your belly measurements now?

bluebird1235 · 19/01/2017 13:12

Thumbs I have the gagging thing too - it's only ever when I'm cleaning my teeth right at the back on the top of my mouth. Makes me feel like I'm going to throw up. I'm also having trouble swallowing bigger pills. I've never had a problem before but the other day I accidentally fired one across the room!

Can't wait for my 16 week midwife appt but still 2 weeks to go. Has anyone else had a consultant appt? I have one next week but don't really know what it's for - I've only got it because it's twins but I wonder what he's going to say??

I did my first session of prenatal Pilates last night and it was really good! Very relaxing!

CatRash · 19/01/2017 14:00

Notyet you're right it shouldn't make any difference but unfortunately I feel it might. I previously heard my line manager refer to another pregnant colleague as "she doesn't count" which shocked me.

It sounds like you've got it all planned out. At the minute I'm planning to take a whole year off, only on statutory (unfortunately) and just wing it. Other half won't get paternity pay as self employed so we just have to save hard now.

I might tell my friends at work this weekend and then wait for it to work it's way through the grapevine. I'm still undecided...

I have to wait till 09/02 for the quad test as they couldn't measure during the scan due to baby being in a difficult position and refusing to move. So that's another factor.

LuciBee231015 · 19/01/2017 14:09

I was planning on working up until the week before my due date. Then do 9 months of mat leave and add my accrued holiday on the end.

rhodes2015 · 19/01/2017 14:52

Bluebird, I have a consultant appointment next week due to having stage 1 cervical cancer ages ago. The treatment i had "can" lead to miscarriage/prem birth but I think equally lots of people who've had it done don't ever have a problem. My midwife just said think of being under a consultant as you might get more scans Smile

Luci, same as you I'm planning on taking 9months from week before due date then all my holiday (5weeks) at the end.

My nauseas all gone and has been for a while but got no appetite again, hungry but don't fancy anything .... so frustrating.

Kitsandkids · 19/01/2017 17:43

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today too. It lasted about 8 minutes. She didn't examine my tummy at all or attempt to find a heartbeat. Are they meant to at that appointment?

All she did was take my blood pressure (slightly higher than last time but ok apparently), write in the results of the blood tests that were done last time (all fine thankfully) and book me in for a glucose test at the hospital in a few weeks and my next appointment with her at 25 weeks. That was it.
