Raspberry that's rubbish. It's hard to put yourself first but I think we all need to be a bit selfish right now!

I'm currently lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself having been sent home from work as I was sick! There's a bug going round school so I'm hoping I won't get it too bad. I felt iffy this morning but thought I'd just overdone it with the decorating at the weekend and I tried to soldier on. Definitely should've listened to my instincts!

Badgerbird · 16/01/2017 13:39

adventure I'm sure chilling in a bikini gave you more chance to connect, try not to worry but I guess keep an eye out for movements and contact midwife if worried. Well done in venturing out and buying some baby stuff! I haven't managed yet myself which is silly really as I don't believe you can jinx it :)

TheTantrumCometh · 16/01/2017 14:07

Raspberry that's shit, and I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure you will after some rest.

Rustler I hope your transfer goes well. Do you know when you'll hear from them again?

I grabbed a bargain this morning. I was in town taking some bits back to New Look and popped into M & S and there was a lovely cot mattress reduced from £89 down to £26.50 because of a fault. The fault was the packaging! It was all sealed inside a plastic bag, it just didn't have a box! Other than that it is in perfect condition. I quickly googled the size of our Ikea cot (as their sizes can be funny) and it supposedly fits. When I took it to the till it came up at £21.50! So even if it doesn't fit I can either sell it for a bit less and someone else has a bargain or I can donate it and I've only lost just over £20. Completely chuffed especially as we're so tight for money at the moment.

Raspberry sorry I can't make it tonight. I'm at home, full of cold. Hopefully next time!

RasperryInAMelon · 16/01/2017 15:59

Shame you cant make it MrsJW

If anyone else would like to join us this evening, we're meeting at Costa Coffee between platforms 7 and 8 at Victoria station at 6:00pm Smile

ShiniBerry · 16/01/2017 17:15

Sorry ladies, I won't be able to make it to Victoria this evening, am struggling with pelvic and ligament pain and barely made it through work. The thought of now having to battle rush hour tubes and trains makes me want to cry :-( Hope you all have a lovely meet up xx

yellowismyfavourite · 16/01/2017 17:28

Raspberry that sounds rubbish hope you feel better.
Grow and MrsJW hope you clear the bugs too.

How soon do you have to apply for places at nursery? I am thinking to go back to work 3 days a week from next January and we have a really good recommendation for a nursery not too far away but am not sure how to find out about waiting lists etc... or if I am worrying about it too early

newbieho · 16/01/2017 17:58

I'm on my way to Victoria, approaching clapham junction. Will be a bit late, sorry folks.

Take care Shini, hopefully you get better soon x

coxsorangepippin · 16/01/2017 17:58

I'll be there in 20 mins!

Sonnet18 · 16/01/2017 18:24

I organised dd's nursery placement about 4 months before she started and that seemed plenty of time but I've heard of people doing it sooner.
So, I'm a teacher and a child in my class has been diagnosed with chicken pox...I've had them as a child...would you still be worried?
Enjoy the meet up to the London folk!
Those who are sick and loaded with the cold, I hope you feel better!

McBaby · 16/01/2017 18:27

Sonnet if you have had chicken pox you should be fine but any sign you have spots go to the gp. 12 of my daughters class have had chicken pox in the past few weeks!

If you like s nursery it is never to early to look around. Some let you put your name down before birth and others make you wait till you have a baby. Plenty of nurseries near us are over subscribed!

Sipperskipper · 16/01/2017 18:32

I will be putting ours in nursery one morning a week (going back 2 days a week). I actually called up today as some nurseries have a minimum amount of sessions they will take on. Have found a lovely nursery very local which will do one morning a week, so going to take a look round in the next few weeks.

I think some nurseries have massive waiting lists, which is why people try & sort it early - guess it depends on location.

EsmesBees · 16/01/2017 19:23

I started looking at nurseries when DD was 4 months. She started at a year. If you send some emails out they will tell you how long the waiting list is for the baby room. It tends to be shorter if you are flexible on days. In ours, the wait for Wednesday is much longer than Monday or Friday.

Anyone expecting no 2 (or already have 2) recommend a book about a new baby for a toddler? I'm after something about the realities of living with a newborn, rather than that there is a baby on the way. If that makes any sense?

Sonnet18 · 16/01/2017 19:34

esme my mum got my daughter a book called "Zaza's baby brother" and it's a little zebra who goes from being an only child to adapting to having a baby. It's sweet. You could probably find it on Amazon.

yellowismyfavourite · 16/01/2017 22:00

Sonnet I am a teacher too and I had to check this out recently. NHS website says if you had it as a child you should be immune but if you're worried the doctor can do a blood test to make sure.
For me, it wasn't my class and I had it as a child so I didn't worry.

McBaby · 16/01/2017 22:16

There is a house inside my mummy is a lovely book. Dd1 knows it off by heart now.

Jugoo28 · 16/01/2017 22:42

We had a private gender scan following babys crossed legs and it's a girl!!!! Need to get used to saying she now, not it.

I'm already on the waiting list for four nurseries but I want one near work and there are only about 40 under two places between the four of them so need to be on top of it!

MrsJW15 · 16/01/2017 22:58

That reminds me - I emailed a couple of places over Christmas and I never heard back. I guess I need to chase them.

lullaby23 · 17/01/2017 01:04

Hope you had a nice meet up everyone and managed to relax after your strenuous day raspsberry.

Good recommendations on the books I hadn't thought of that? I will order one for DS, thanks! It's tricky to talk about a new baby with him as he still refers to himself as a baby Grin

Congrats on the girl jugoo! Glad you were able to find out after the disappointment last scan.

I thought that if you've had chicken pox previously if you come across someone with it in adulthood it gives you a mini immunity boost but no idea if that's true in pregnancy and always best to be cautious.

EsmesBees · 17/01/2017 07:03

Thanks for the book recommendations mcbaby and Sonnet. Will check them out.

Autumnsweater · 17/01/2017 08:05

Made our first big purchase yesterday of a car seat after reading about them for hours on Which. Exhausting buying baby stuff! Found a Grobag half price in Boots as well, and going to get the Aldi Moses basket I think so will be a bit more prepared by the end of the week!

jennymac31 · 17/01/2017 08:23

Morning ladies

Hope you are well.

Am definitely feeling quite emotional recently. Am feeling slightly stressed at work and feel like I'm not pulling my weight or working as hard as I can (but I can only do my best).

Also feel anxious and scared because someone I know, whose baby was due a week after mine, lost their baby over Christmas and it's been playing on my mind. I'm scared because I'm older than I was last time round and the risk of complications etc are higher.

Apologies for depressive post first thing in the morning.

Sonnet18 · 17/01/2017 08:28

Sorry to hear you're feeling like this jenny. I felt like that last pregnancy as I knew a girl who had a stillbirth the month before dd was born. Just remember all the other people who have NOT lost babies- the odds are in your favour that you will be like them (that make sense?) We tend to focus on the negative scary things but I had to remind myself that more babies are born alive and well and, yes, some poor babies do not live but just because it happened to someone else does not mean it'll happen to you. Hope you have a nice day and feel better

newbieho · 17/01/2017 08:51

jenny those days can be tricky when you are anxious. I did not feel the baby yesterday morning at all (during his "usual" wriggling time) and only stopped worried once he started to kick me off in the bladder yesterday in the afternoon. Try to think about it from the other side - you've managed to get to the halfway - well done :-)
