Lucie are you planning to breastfeed so just do the odd bottle? If you are then just buy some microwave bags, they are super easy.
If you want a electric on I'd take a look on which. I got given a TT and and Avent one. Both of which were fine but took up so much counter space I prefer to use the microwave.

Sonnet18 · 15/01/2017 20:06

We have a tommee tippee steriliser and use mam bottles and they fit totally fine. However, they pretty much all do the same thing and all have pros and cons!

lucieloos · 15/01/2017 20:43

Thanks everyone. I am planning to try and breastfeed but as it's my first I have no idea how I will get on so want to be prepared and I guess I will need something for when I stop breastfeeding which if I got on with it would probably be 5-6 months.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 15/01/2017 20:47

Another fan of microwave sterilisers. Don't take much space and transportable when you travel.
I BF, but did an occasional expressed and Mixed feeding from 6 months. We got given a counter top one. Used it once. Couldn't see any advantage to it. X

1004Rise · 15/01/2017 21:35

Just checking in as you've dropped off my "I'm on" threads. Lots to catch up on Grin

lucieloos · 15/01/2017 21:43

Having looked at a few I'm thinking of the nuk microwave steriliser just because someone else on here recommended the nuk as good bottles to combine with breastfeeding and so think I'm going to try them. The steriliser is only £15.

Northernexile · 15/01/2017 22:12

bright swaddling can help them sleep better as it stops their startle reflex that can cause them to flap their arms and suddenly wake (apparently). I found dd1 really liked being swaddled, dd2 not so much!

Rustler74 · 15/01/2017 22:18

Is it worth buying that massive pack of newborn or size 1 nappies?

EsmesBees · 15/01/2017 22:24

Ruster- probably not. Lots of newborns are not in size ones for long. Probably worth waiting to see what weight yours is born at. There are baby events throughout the year and nappies are often on offer.

lucieloos · 15/01/2017 22:27

Rustler I bought the massive pack of size 1 pampers at mothercare and got another pack free. I've no idea if it will be worth it or they will be ok but it says they go up to 11lbs and were a bargain so I figured I should get to use at least some if not all but I've also got some size 2 just incase as well.

bertiebunny · 15/01/2017 23:39

Gosh you ladies keep a pace on here. Thanks for the tips on aldi will have a look and @lullaby23 will DM you if I can work out how to on my phone!

Our nursery is full of the unisex bits I've bought and the furniture that all needs shifting so I'm feeling very behind you organised ladies!!

I decided to opt for the sleepyhead (over cocoonababy) and it arrived this weekend by courier. I bought it on eBay and am very happy with it. Looks new and in original packaging. Still deciding over nursery furniture and prams 😬🙄

Trying to be sensible. I did buy a few things from the happy Jackson range @ findmeagift they have got a sale on so I bought a pram blanket changing mat and some large bags for toys etc worth a look if you like that range. Also I have just got some work trousers from gap. Nice fit and over bump which is growing now!! Had 20 weeks scan last week and all going well - thought the foot pic was especially cute so have attached!

I can't make the meet up tomorrow as not in London until weds, hope you all have a lovely time!

I swaddled DS at night until he started fighting his way out Grin as others said it's good to stop the Moro reflex from waking them up. Just make sure you can still froggy up their legs as it can cause hip issues if you do it too tight round their bottom half.

Sah1987 · 16/01/2017 07:34

Guys I've just been sent a link for Tesco baby event starts today or tomorrow. I can't remember now I've closed the page :( just know you've all been talking about Aldi thought I'd let you know x

RasperryInAMelon · 16/01/2017 08:12

Just checking people are still on for tonight at Victoria?

newbieho · 16/01/2017 08:24

Rasperry I'm in Smile

Adventuregame · 16/01/2017 08:51

I'm in for tonight but might be a short chat for me as I'll need to try and get my 18:49 train but at least I'll get to say a quick hello !

Re swaddling, I bought some swaddles but never used them. Some babies need the reassurance of being tightly wrapped (apparently) - not too tight though!

I suspect co-sleeping prevented the startle reflex kicking in at night for us but he was generally a good sleeper anyway even for naps. We used a suitable-from-newborn sleeping bag (www.merinokids.co.uk/cocooi-sleep-bag) which probably stopped any leg-reflexes waking him. I do have a photo somewhere of him asleep with his arms straight up in the air like a zombie though Grin

RasperryInAMelon · 16/01/2017 09:15

I too won't be staying too long tonight I'm afraid ladies. Madame had a fidgety night which consequently left me with 2 and a half hours sleep, I've been travelling for work since 7am and am utterly wiped, but I'll stop by for a brew and to say hi Brew

PeachIcedT · 16/01/2017 09:38

I'm still good for tonight's meet, but need to get a particular train in order to meet you reasonably on time - as long as I make that ok I'll be there Smile

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 16/01/2017 09:53

Oh crap, I feel I have SPD, I remember the pain from last time round - it only started at 35+ weeks with DS1. Going to phone an osteopath right now, no point fannying with NHS physio, after all the waiting they were useless once I did get an appointment.

RasperryInAMelon · 16/01/2017 11:22

RANT ALERT

Super annoyed with myself today. Part of our company is closing and we have a warehouse which took me almost two and a half hours to get to which held all of our payroll archiving.

I was asked to go to the warehouse and take stock of what we need have brought to our business offices in London. I work in HR and my boss knows that I'm now 5 and a half months pregnant, I said I wasn't prepared to do any heavy lifting, reaching above my head etc.

'No you won't need to, there will be staff in the warehouse to help'

Well... what a load of bollocks that was, I've just spent the last hour and a half yanking full archiving boxes above my head and am now, quite frankly utterly wiped and aching like hell.

I know I'm just as much to blame because I shouldn't have done it, I should have just called my boss and said, there's no one here to help. But I know that it just needs to doing so stupidly cracked on. Really wish I could just go home to rest now Sad

Adventuregame · 16/01/2017 11:23

I bought my first 'baby stuff' yesterday - felt strange ! It was only small stuff but the mothercare sale ends this week so thought it would be silly to miss out. Now feel apprehensive !! On holiday last week my bump felt huge and I was feeling lots of movement every day. Back at work today and feel smaller bump wise and less movement. I'm sure it's just cos last week I was in a bikini lying in the sun with nothing to distract me so felt every movement and now I'm back in work tights, dress and too busy to relax and pay attention to bump but it's worrying all the same !

Oh Rasperry that sounds hideous ! I know what you mean tho - it's so easy to think 'well it just needs doing' ! Can you take a rest break this afternoon at all ?

OP posts:
Rustler74 · 16/01/2017 11:34

Off to Harlow in a moment (there is also a mothercare there!)
Sorry to hear Raspberry x I would make sure your boss knows how annoyed you are and def take afternoon break to rest.
Adventure game must be lovely to have felt that movement x I feel a surge of love when I feel baby!
Bertiebunny are you also having a surprise! I'm pleased we haven't felt the urge to open that darn envelope! Hoping to hold off
Just received confirmation from Lister hospital that they received my self referral (relocation of antenatal care from Watford as it is horrible to get to there and Stevenage is only 20 minutes away) hoping to hear from them soon

teainbed · 16/01/2017 11:40

I'm a swaddling fan. Grin Not with any specific devices just with a cellular blanket or large muslin, I'm convinced it helps comfort them when they're upset and sleep better.

Raspberry that sounds crap, rest up.

Enjoy the meetup for those who are going!
