Hi all

Haven't posted for a while.... had some bleeding (spotting mainly) and cramping over the weekend so phoned my local midwife Monday morning who advised me to go to a & e where they have an early baby unit... I thought she would tell me not to worry wasn't expecting to go to a & e.

Basically spent all of Monday in there having various blood pressure tests, blood taken and urine sample, finally got to see gynaecologist doc who didn't really tell me anything I didn't know 6 hours earlier. With no rest results given...

I've got an appointment back there at early baby unit tomorrow afternoon and I am hoping they will do a scan although not guaranteed apparently- does anyone know likeliness of them giving me one? I'm 10 + 2 today and haven't got my 12 week scan booked in until 16th Feb by which time I'll be 13 + 3 can't wait that long!
Still having spotting with fresh blood this week.... anyone gone through anything similar?!

Also finished a course of antibiotics for a uti that was picked up on my first urine sample...

Sorry for the long post - feeling worried Sad

MrsG280516 · 25/01/2017 12:55

missslw they should definitely san you if you tell them the spotting is making you very anxious, which is understandable. Can't believe they haven't scanned you already!

missslw · 25/01/2017 13:05

Thanks MrsG I know I was hoping they would on Monday but were too busy it took from 9.30 till 2.30 to get into that ward... nightmare 🙄

yolkybokey · 25/01/2017 13:29

missslw are you able to contact the EPU directly? In my local unit they have drop-in times when you can go for a scan if you are worried about spotting/pain - I was impressed by how quickly I was seen at 4-5 weeks. Maybe google for a phone number?

Kirstyinnorway · 25/01/2017 13:39

ScottishLady7 we're about the same, my 12-week scan would be 13th Feb (ish) if they did them here! We've booked in for an early though on Friday (I'll be 9+5). It wasn't too expensive and it has made me feel much less anxious already (crazy as that is). Do it!

missslw you definitely need that scan, mainly for your own sanity. Be pushy! You have reason to want one, please don't let yourself be fobbed off. I understand the systems are under serious pressure but it is important for you and you're not wasting their time.

wanting I'm excited to hear about your scan results!! Grin

WantingBaby1 · 25/01/2017 15:46

Had my 12 week scan. All looks perfect. Can't tell you how relieved I am! We saw and heard a strong heartbeat and little babe was waving away and kicking legs! Also got my test results back and it's low risk of downs etc, 1 / 15786, so hugely relieved.

Thinking of you all going through difficult times and worrying about scans and test results Flowers

yolkybokey · 25/01/2017 15:47

I'm another one waiting for my 12 week scan on 16th Feb, it's driving me crazy Confused

yolkybokey · 25/01/2017 15:47

Brilliant news wanting

Stinkbaby · 25/01/2017 15:51

Fantastic news wanting Grin

Missslw I would totally ask for a scan too, hope everything is ok xx

ZigAZigAhh · 25/01/2017 16:01

Yay wanting! Grin brilliant news.

Thinking of you missslw - definitely push for a scan to put your mind at rest, and look after yourself in the meantime.

Catherinebee85 · 25/01/2017 16:24

Missslw I would definitely stress how anxious you are. A scan might just put your mind at rest and surely an ultrasound should be a standard thing in an EPU?

Wanting I so hope I'm on here next week with the same news! So pleased for you xx

ZigAZigAhh · 25/01/2017 16:42

Really silly question about the blood test as part of the Downs/Edwards/Patau screening - do they do it at the 12 week scan and when do you get the results? I was hoping that all going well (touch wood) we would be able to start telling people (parents, work) once I had my scan, but am now wondering if we should wait until we have the blood test results too? Or if the scan looks low risk is it unlikely the blood tests will show anything different?

With DC1 we paid for private scans and the Harmony test (and were very glad we did as he got a 1:95 result for the Downs test from the scan alone but we were then given our Harmony results showing 1:10000 at the same time). Not sure how it all works on the NHS though!

missslw · 25/01/2017 17:15

Thanks for all the responses yes I will definitely push for a scan - I'm getting the other half to come with me too so I'll get him to help lol

Trying to not to think about it now - time cannot come quick enough! Fingers crossed 🤞🙏🏻

ZigAZigAhh · 25/01/2017 17:20

Good luck missslw - crossing everything that you get some good news.

WantingBaby1 · 25/01/2017 17:29

Thanks ladies!

zig re tests I had my bloods taken 1 week before my 12 week scan and got the results at the 12 week scan.

IntoTheWoods84 · 25/01/2017 17:51

zig I think it depends on your hospital but mine did the blood test and then I had a scan straight after. We waited for about 30 minutes after the scan (which was super long! They measure so much stuff!) and they met with us to tell us the results of the two combined - although during the scan they said everything looked fine so the wait wasn't too nerve racking.

Thinking of all of you and hoping for happy healthy mini babies!

Anyone else faint? I totally blacked out at the bus stop the other day (I'm 13wks now) even though I'd eaten. Scary! And no-one helped me - London...Hmm

ZigAZigAhh · 25/01/2017 18:00

Thanks Into and Wanting - very good to know!

Oh Into you poor thing, that's awful! Hope you didn't hurt yourself? I came close a few times on the Tube with DC1 (when I wasn't showing and didn't feel as though I could wear my Baby on Board badge and demand a seat, even though seats are very much needed in the first trimester in my opinion!)

I did actually faint having my hair blow dried at the hairdressers when I was about 22 weeks which was slightly embarrassing...I think it was a combination of the heat near my head and being in a confined space.

The joys, hey?

IntoTheWoods84 · 25/01/2017 18:06

Hehe yep - so far it's been pretty grim. Luckily didn't hurt myself though - I think I must have looked totally drunk! I'm looking forward to the 2nd trimester so much!

I reckon mine was down to a very wooly hat I was wearing so maybe the key is to keep a cool head - in every sense!

thenorthernluce · 25/01/2017 19:10

Wanting, my scan is tomorrow lunchtime, so I'm hoping for the same outcome as yours! Fingers crossed xx

WantingBaby1 · 25/01/2017 19:37

Good luck luce, be thinking of you Smile

MrsG280516 · 25/01/2017 19:51

Zig I've been told by the midwife that bloods are taken after the scan then you wait for either a phone call (within the week) if you are high risk or just a letter in the post if you're low risk. So no news is good news in my area.

Good work whoateallthejaffacakes!
My date is currently 28th August but may change after my 12 week scan :)

thisismee · 25/01/2017 21:38

Good work with the list Jaffa.

Oh my, pregnancy tiredness plus a one year old is like torture! I'm not as sick as before but never felt this tired ever. I thought at 13 weeks I may start feeling like I had a little more energy.

Hope everyone else are doing ok, and scans come around fast for you. The waiting is sooo hard.

clevername · 25/01/2017 22:39

Hi everyone. May I join? Sorry I'm late but I've only just found you guys!

I'm 10 weeks today, due on 23rd August (according to the online calculator thingys) and my scan is on 7th Feb.

I haven't read the whole thread but I gather there's been some sad news along the way - sorry to everyone affected... Flowers
