Hello Everyone

Im finally de-lurking after following this thread for a good few weeks so I feel like I know you all already!

Im 8 weeks with a very unexpected number 3! DD1 is 4 and DD2 is 1. We had always thought we would have a third but it wasnt on the cards for at least another year, or so we thought!

After 3 miscarriages between my 2 DD's I was very anxious but after an early scan yesterday everything is looking good. Im feeling dreadful and not coping very well with the nausea especially with 2 young ones to look after - roll on the 2nd trimester!

Look forward to sharing this journey with you all!

88claire · 10/01/2017 15:29

I'm probably being silly here, I'm very anxious and have a private scan booked for the 20th all I have is tests to show I'm pregnant... I'm worried the line on the first response tests aren't getting any darker? They did seem to be until the 7th and now I can't see any change. If anything I think they're getting slightly lighter? I know you're not supposed to be going by the line on the tests but there must be some correlation between hcg and line colour. I also did a digital yesterday and it still said 1-2 weeks.

I also have absolutely no idea how far along I am as I have really dodgy cycles!

Am I being ridiculous worrying myself?

MrsG280516 · 10/01/2017 15:36

claire88 after a certain point the levels of HCG will be too much for a pregnancy test and it won't be as dark as before.

Please try not to worry, a line is a line and you are pregnant. You're wasting a lot of money on peeing on sticks!

88claire · 10/01/2017 15:41

Thanks Mrs G

Fortunately I bought in bulk when I didn't think it would happen so quickly but yes I agree it's a waste I just can't help it!

I would have stopped except the digital only saying 1-2 weeks.

Anyway thankyou! I am aware I'm being silly and I spend half my time reassuring other people... I'm a children's nurse 😂

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 10/01/2017 17:39

88claire at this stage the concentration of your urine probably makes the biggest difference in how strong the line is or how far along the digital test says you are. I wouldn't go by urine tests anymore. Please don't worry.

yolkybokey · 10/01/2017 17:53

Hi all,
I'm new here. Grin
Positive test on December 17th, first GP appointment on Dec 22nd, which resulted in me being sent straight to the local EPU for a dating scan as I had no real idea how far along I was (irregular periods and bad memory!) Early scan put me at 4-5 weeks, with sac and yolk visible but no embryo yet. Have since had a very prompt booking in with lovely midwife at home, which I was well impressed with.
I reckon I am 7-ish weeks now, but of course I am super paranoid that something has gone wrong/I am fooling myself.
Ultrasound will be on Feb 16th, which feels like a million years away right now....just reassuring myself that I feel dreadful and scan did definately show pregnancy!!
It's really nice to read other ladies experiencing similar things.

MustBeThursday · 10/01/2017 21:39

Had my first midwife appointment today - she seems nice. Filled in a lot of forms and things. She was not pleased when she saw my arms - my veins are terrible for getting blood Grin She said I should get a scan date letter from the hospital in the next few weeks then we will finally know a date (sadly doesn't think it's urgent to get it dated).

Oddly, I seem to have shrunk 2cm in height since the last time I was measured a few years back Hmm and I've had a skin reaction to the plaster she put on my arm which just adds to the list of minor moans I've got at the moment...

Brainfried1986 · 10/01/2017 22:09

Hi all

So I'm glad to have made it to 7 weeks, but a bit stressed today as I've had twinges low down in my tummy all day - not painful, just like a light pang every now and again. Internet assures me it's normal, but it still makes me worry...

On top of that, a friend of mine announced today that she's due on July 24th, and now all I want to do is tell her I'm pg too!!! But I'm not telling many more people until I've had my scan, which means a frustrating 5 week wait before I can share in the joy! I know technically I could tell her, but also know it's still early days. Didn't expect to have this level of frustration!

Kirstyinnorway · 11/01/2017 07:25

brainfried I'm 7+3 today and have also had the odd twangy cramp over the last few days! I've also had (TMI warning!) the smallest amount of pale brown EWCM - literally just a tiny bit in the afternoon when I wipe. That's been going on since about 5 weeks now. On top of that, in the last two days I've lost my sickness. It's all very worrying, and the Internet either tells me it's normal, or that it's the beginning of the end,
depending on where I look. Need to step away from Google Confused

I don't know what to say to make you feel better, other than you're not alone, and this is a very anxious time. I'm sleeping terribly as I'm panicking that DH's parents arrive this week and we're meant to be telling them (we want to do it face-to-face and we don't see them very often) - I'm scared to tell them and then have it go wrong.

I know I'm lucky not to be throwing up any more, but I'm terrified that it's a sign that this bean isn't very sticky.

Is anyone else showing the same symptoms (or lack of)?

Kirstyinnorway · 11/01/2017 07:25

Sorry, that was a very long anxious ramble.

Sparklyuggs · 11/01/2017 07:53

kirsty you do sound anxious Flowers I've not had bleeding but brainfried described the twinges I'm having perfectly.
Symptoms do come and go, I would find some days were worse than others which is probably the hormones increasing.

Will the in laws be sensitive if you tell them it's early days? If they wouldn't I would think carefully about telling them (or anyone else who isn't sensitive) as it might increase your anxiety? My ILs have their moments but would be very sensitive so we told them at 6 weeks; same as you being expats but wanted to do it face to face. I've not told my Gran as she would a) tell everyone b) told everyone a cousin's wife mc'ed when it wasn't her place to.

I slept terribly last night, will you get a chance to nap?

88claire · 11/01/2017 07:55

Thanks for the replies ladies.. I know I'm being so silly but it's my first pregnancy and my mind is running away with me!

So after a complete melt down yesterday I did my last test in the cupboard today and finally got my 2-3 on clearblue.

That's it. I'm done with peeing on sticks all its done is caused worry!

Bring on the scan on the 20th Smile

TMI26 · 11/01/2017 09:02

You haven't got long to wait Claire :) just hold on the scan is around the corner had the worst dream today, felt so real I don't want to repeat it here but it has me petfrified

88claire · 11/01/2017 09:39

TMI

Oh gosh! I've had the strangest vivid dreams lately even before I knew I was pregnant. It's only a dream remember :)

Yes not long til a scan... Im off work for a few days as I work shifts and I think I'm better off there! I need distraction at the moment.

I'm working Friday then Monday to Thursday next week and then the scan on Friday.

It's a shame as I'm not enjoying being pregnant due to the worry!

MustBeThursday · 11/01/2017 13:31

DH has just got DD up and brought her back downstairs when I'd only just put her down for her afternoon nap...because she "called out" (she was chattering to herself as she does when she goes to bed) when he was pottering upstairs getting ready for work. He said she stood up as soon as she saw him - I asked him why he went in in the first place, he knew I'd just put her down! Apparently he didn't Hmm but he must have at least opened the door and stuck his head in for her to see him. He's miffed that I'm cross, now DD will play up when she gets tired this afternoon and he's out til evening now so he won't have to deal with it.

AND I don't get my rest while she naps now. And I got up with DD this morning. I want to cry I'm so annoyed!

Stinkbaby · 11/01/2017 14:35

Hey Kirsty, I've also had very slight brown discharge that lastest about 3 days, my symptoms have also eased off a lot so we're in the same boat. It's a waiting game Angry
Just gotta hope!

ClaraLane · 11/01/2017 16:42

Has anyone here been advised by their midwife to steer clear of nuts? Apparently because of my mum and brother both having asthma I shouldn't eat whole nuts during this pregnancy but things like peanut butter are fine. All the things I've read says this is outdated advice though - help!

Oh Kirsty that sounds stressful! I think I would still tell the ILs if I were you because if anything does go wrong then they can support you. We told both sets of parents about 6/7 weeks because we knew we'd need them if I did miscarry. I had lots of cramps in the beginning which have mostly disappeared however I panicked when they came back on Friday for a few hours. I also had a few days where my sickness completely stopped but it soon came back with a vengeance!

MustBeThursday · 11/01/2017 20:26

Clara I thought it was now changed to be nuts in any form fine during pregnancy, unless you are allergic or there's a history of severe allergies in the family? I did ask my midwife and she said its fine to eat nuts in pregnancy - I have mild asthma myself. I can't see how its different for you to eat whole nuts or nuts in peanut butter - they don't exactly pop through the placenta whole...

And then peanut butter etc fine for babies who are weaned but whole nuts not until age 5. I think there was a news article about it on the BBC website recently.

The weirdest advice I saw about foods was on the NHS website saying that its fine to eat licorice - I've never once heard of licorice being banned in pregnancy!

Sorry to hear you're all feeling so anxious. It's a worrying time but the way I see it it's going to be ok or it's not. I've had pregnancies go both ways and worrying didn't change the outcome so there's no point! It's helping me to think that way anyway!
For today - we are pregnant.
10+4 today and starting to feel less awful gradually. I even managed a coffee this morning! I feel a bit like I'm coming out of a rather unpleasant fog although the exhaustion is still all consuming. I came home from work on Monday night and DH sent me to bed at 8. I slept through (bar peeing trips) until 6am which was just what I needed.
The peanut thing keeps changing. i have atopic asthma as do most of my family but none of my children do. And I had an addiction to peanuts in one of my pregnancies (18 years ago it wasn't even mentioned).
Ive also got a massive stomach! It was finally almost flat after a year of getting into shape. Now half my clothes are too tight already! I'm reassured I'm not the only one.

missslw · 11/01/2017 21:59

Hi
Just joined this site today! Found out I was pregnant on 15th Dec and by various apps looks like due date is 21.08.17!
This is my first pregnancy (age 32) and was planned :-)
Have my booking in appointment tomorrow and not really sure what to expect- so much information so hoping to join this group. Feeling excited and nervous.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what all the abbreviations mean??

firsttimer12345 · 11/01/2017 22:18

I haven't been advised to steer clear of nuts but I don't tend to eat many anyway.
I definitely have a tiny bit of a bump now and a really sore back. Still struggling with a lot of food although have now introduced cheese and tomato pizza into my diet of chicken nuggets, toast and chocolate biscuits. Maybe that is why I have a bump already!

BlueIguana · 12/01/2017 03:22

Welcome missslw - We are due date buddies! See here: www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms Hope it helps!

Kirstyinnorway · 12/01/2017 06:31

Thanks sparkly, melons and clara Smile You made me feel better.

I'm a natural worrier anyway, and although I do have coping mechanisms, I think I'm losing control of the negative thoughts in these early days. I know I'll feel so much better when I get my scan. Given that the first scan here is 18 weeks, I think I'll book in for a private at 12. Only another 4 and a half weeks of worrying! Confused

I think MIL will be like a buffalo over my sensitivity but if we really hammer it home, she will (hopefully) wise up. FIL will be great. They arrive today and we've decided just to tell them! That's a pretty awful thought having someone tell folks about a mc! My aunt would be totally the same - she's not being told until the birth Grin

Sorry to hear about the nightmares TMI

Stink it is worrying, isn't it?! I've had the tiniest amount of brown discharge for about 2 weeks now. It's never developed into more (yet) so I'm trying not to freak out! Apparently some of us do spot throughout, so I guess we are that 30% on this thread!

Hi miss! Congrats and welcome. (Just FYI I'm not normally this negative!)
