BabyBonkers will occasionally feed until he voms 🙄

After a horrendous day yesterday, he slept amazingly well last night and had a good day today, just being fussy this evening. He's five weeks today so seems to match this chart.

How is everyone?

We're all ok at Turnip HQ. We all have colds including baby, his sneezing and coughing is very pathetic - poor thing. We've come to the conclusion that saline drops are the worlds best invention, that and a calpol plug on the landing!

We followed some advice to make night time as boring as possible and so far it has really worked with getting ds to sleep a bit more. Getting him latched in the dark took a bit of practice though.
I'm not sure if any of you remember but back at our 20week scan they found that ds has a clubbed foot. We had our first appointment for that today, it was mostly info I had already read and a look around the ward where we will be spending a lot of time the next few years. Next week he will get his first cast.
I'm trying to be OK about it all but I keep feeling really guilty, even though I know there was nothing I could have done.

Londonmamabychance · 18/01/2017 22:53

Hope all are well! Nice tattoo bigfam!

mejse it must be hard,
But as you say, nothing you could have done! A friend of mine's baby had a club foot too, he'd had casts and today it's all fine! Hope it goes well with the cast.

Sorry for everyone struggling with sleep issues!

My baby has turned out to be colicy, he cries for hours each evening and night and spits up loads. It's quite distressing, but what I find more distressing than him crying is family and DH panicking so much about it. They just seem so worried and fussed about it, DH really any deal with his crying. Father in law was just here and kept fussing too. I try to keep my calm and just view it as a phase he has to go through. I think all we can do is cuddle him and accept he does not want to be put down. Am not a great believers in infacol, craniotheraphy or loads of kit like hammocks or moving bouncy chairs. I figure he is just one of those babies and yes it's exhausting not but it won't last forever. But everyone else almost react as ignorant my attempt to stay calm and take it to as it comes is negligence! Grrr it's the exact opposite, I read loads about colic and in fact no one quite knows what it is, and studies show no probable effect of remedies like infacol. I feel so frustrated. Have decided to just keep try to calm him and keep him a bit away from DH if he really can't handle it.

Babydreaming · 18/01/2017 23:39

Hey everyone! Nice to hear how you are all getting along. My baby turns 6 weeks tomorrow and it's been a huge learning curve for both of us!

I think he is quite a well behaved baby generally...in the daytime he has predictable naps (although will not be put down so I have to carry him in a sling!)

Our problem is the evening. He wakes from a nap between 6-7pm. It then takes me til 11-12 to get him to go back to sleep again! He cluster feeds to the point where he is in pain and then won't be put down. It's tiring! He doesn't cry or anything..just won't sleep! I know I can't complain too much as he's otherwise a good baby. Any tips on getting him to sleep a bit quicker in the evenings?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 19/01/2017 17:14

Wow I have missed so much. So I moved last week and that has been a total nightmare. We moved in and was shocked to find we have no cooker and can't get one for another 3weeks until we get some money so it's been quick meals. Somehow my wedding ring has got lost in the move. I am still surrounded by boxes.
My Toddler has decided to play up and not like her sister.
And my LO who is 4weeks (which has gone very fast) has what I suspect is reflux. She is also suffering with a very blocked nose and cold and have been told I can't give her anything :-( feeling a bit deflated within myself too. Sorry about the long update. Hope you are all well.

Love that sounds like an awful few weeks. What a nightmare. You poor thing. Flowers

Baby we're having the same issue. DD won't settle until like 11pm even though it's obvious she's tired from about 9pm. I'm ashamed to say I've gotten quite frustrated with her. I've decided to stop fighting the tide tonight over this and just take her up a bit later, rather than spend 2 hours trying to settle her and getting mightily pissed off with her just crying in my face the whole time.

We're all down with cold / fluey viruses, which is not helping. Sad

TipBoov · 20/01/2017 06:27

Finally found my login details again - I've got a new phone and couldn't remember my Mn Password.

Placemarking so I can catch up.

SolomanDaisy · 20/01/2017 12:26

I just take the baby up to bed when I go, she feeds and cat naps all evening so there's no point trying anything else. My DS was the same. I find it easiest just to go with it!

london, bad luck on your baby having colic. It just seems like luck of the draw and you just have to wait it out.

love, I hope you get unpacked and settled soon!

Thisisbonkers · 20/01/2017 18:10

Seriously, you can't make this up. We've managed a week and a half of no medical assistance being required. I'm feeling well! I can do so much more. All going great guns, coming out of the other side.

I was sat on the sofa earlier feeding BabyBonkers, all happy. Then I saw a fcking, bstarding flea hopping up his baby grow. I squished that one, then had a meltdown on the phone to DP who came home via the vets for flea stuff. Baby wouldn't stop crying, I couldn't stop crying. Didn't want to put him down as suddenly I could see flea eggs everywhere (we're not filthy, I promise). So was sent out with the pram and ended up out for hours (baby had meltdown in the coffee shop too 🙁) meaning I'll be sore tomorrow. DP has blitzed the house with hoover, steam mop and flea spray. Just the feral cat to treat before he's allowed back in...

I'd just like no drama!

KitKat1985 · 21/01/2017 15:04

Oh that's tough bonkers. I hope it's all sorted now.

This thread has gone very quiet. Sad How are you all getting on?

Bigfam · 21/01/2017 16:46

I thought that kitkat, I hope everyone sticks around.
Romy keeps getting a bloody nose, it doesn't actually bleed, it's just her nostril is crusty with blood, not sure if it's the saline spray but I can't stop using it anyway as she literally can't breath without it. 6 week check went well, gp couldn't believe how good her head control was 😁 (she gets that from me!)
Ahhh bless you bonkers hope you're flea free now!

Thisisbonkers · 21/01/2017 17:21

Fingers crossed we've killed the feckers! Following the cats around with the hoover (they love that!) to pick up any dropped deaduns. I think it's just the feral one though.

We have our six week checks on Tuesday. What do they check? I know baby is to be weighed.

I'm glad Romy passed with flying colours 😄

OrianaBanana · 21/01/2017 17:56

Ok here, finishing the antibiotics and thrush drops today, she's just been screaming all day when put down Sad

Bigfam · 21/01/2017 18:01

They'll ask if baby is following you/objects with their eyes, if they've smiled yet, check baby's hips lungs heart & arteries in groin. The gp will get baby to hold onto his/her hands and slowly pull baby up. Basically just check baby head to toe & note any birth marks. Romy has red marks.on her forehead and eyelids but they'll fade, she has a big birth mark on her neck that goes up into her hairline. She's put on just over 3lbs so now weighs 10lbs8oz!
I bet the 😻's think you're loopy 😉

Lovewatchingrainfall · 21/01/2017 19:24

Aww bonkers that sounds like an awful meltdown.

So baby rain defo has reflux. I am so tired what with my toddler having really bad reflux which means she doesn't sleep. My normal happy baby has gone to not sleeping.
DH is back at work tomorrow not sure how I am going to cope with them both and no cooker feeling the strain already.

Glad you had a good 6week check bigfam.

duxb · 21/01/2017 21:44

Bonkers & love that sounds tough. Hope everything gets sorted for you two.

Colic here and it's still the devil. If we are extremely lucky, she will do 2.5hr stretches from about 11pm till 5am ish. That's a good night.

Quick question re: six week check. Do i need to arrange this or will my GP call me? Baby was 6 weeks old on Friday and haven't heard anything yet.

Bigfam · 22/01/2017 00:07

It varies depending on where you are I think duxb I didn't realise I had to book mine myself, I'm sure last time around they contacted me, the same with vaccinations, I also have to call and arrange those, sometimes in the next 2 weeks!!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 22/01/2017 00:15

Dubx as far as I know you have to book it yourself and needs to be between 6-8weeks. Some doctors will tell you about immunisations but not all, so check if you need to book these yourself or will the doctors.

Colic is awful hope you manage to get a longer stretch of sleep soon.

Popskipiekin · 22/01/2017 05:27

Hello all. Sorry to disappear a short while. Have had (slightly buggy and couldn't go to nursery) DS1 at home all week and wow it's been tricky adjusting to looking after both by myself. We had friends round last weekend and DH told them a second baby is "really easy, so much easier and more relaxed than first." As DH has slept in separate bedroom from DS2 birth and doesn't get back till both boys almost in bed, not like he's actually experienced any of what it's like to have a second child! I went into a rage slightly Grin

I've been told to book my appointment no earlier than 8 weeks as they like to do baby's jabs at the same time...

Baby is sleeping completely differently each night. The only thing consistent about his behaviour is an utter refusal to nap during the day. Thankfully ok at being put down at night, just not brilliant at staying there all the time.

Thisisbonkers · 22/01/2017 10:04

I got a letter from my gp with both our 6 week appointment on, and I think they automatically book us in for the injections too. So must depend on area. (We also got a letter from the the day we came out of hospital asking us to register him asap so they are clearly good with communication here!).

Awful night last night. DP was out and baby wouldn't stop crying. Then again in the middle of the night for at least two hours 🙁. He fell asleep feeding this morning so left him there whilst having breakfast and pumping the other side. Hope today is better as we're off to MiL's for lunch...

SolomanDaisy · 22/01/2017 11:02

Aw, they're both cute babies!

I love baby coos. I'd forgotten what they were, I had to look it up on YouTube to see if that's what DD was doing! She's v funny, her and DS have little conversations with her cooing at him. She has her second injections this week Shock.
