nurse and stubble thanks for the advice. Had a midwife visit this morning and she said basically the same and to expect some improvement by the weekend. My episiotomy had split slightly so that explains the additional discomfort! Hope u feel better soon too! X

NurseRosie · 03/01/2017 15:52

My lo had cradle cap. I've put some miracle coconut oil on, any other advice? Trying to initiate a bedtime routine, thought we needed some stability after the Christmas disruption. So far he hates having a bath, either falls asleep before his feed/bottle and then wakes up randomly, crying for boob and falls asleep in our arms but wakes as all as we put him down. So a very successful start. Any advice on routines?
Congrats Springroll.

Bigfam · 03/01/2017 16:59

Congratulations Springroll peeling/dry skin is totally normal, so are the red marks (I think they're called stork marks) Romy still has some now on her eyelids and just above the bridge of her nose, they fade eventually. Next will be baby acne, but I seem to have found that washing her face a few times throughout the day with just plain water has nearly cleared hers up completely.

Londonmamabychance · 03/01/2017 20:41

Hello everyone! Congrats on new arrivals! Hope everyone is doing well and those struggling will
Feel better soon. Having newborns is so hard! I forgot how hard it is!
Think I definitely have a bit of baby blues. My little one is quite windy and spits up a lot, so doesn't sleep so well at night and wants to be held constantly. Am carrying him around in a sling 50 pct of the time!
Also feel exhausted and am still bleeding 17 days after giving birth, is that normal? Can't remember how long I bled for with DD. Think having two kids is so much harder than with the first one, feel bad for spending less time with DD and miss her, at the same time feeling that my baby is so much more demanding than I remember DD was, but it's probably just because I forgot and because now there's two of them!

StubbleTurnips · 04/01/2017 05:52

Nurse I would say try not to get too hung up on routine, with sleep regressions / jabs / weaning and plenty more ahead it's easy to get wound up about them. I know lots say get it sorted early but that never worked for us until much later where we moved to a dinner / bath / INTG / milk / story situation and that must've been around 9m old with DD.

Saying that some babies like routine from an early age. Not sure mine do Confused

scales of doom came today and thankfully he's not lost too much with mix feeding. First time I've been near those scales and not been an emotional train crash so felt very pleased with myself. Then had a weep this evening about getting it all wrong first time round for DD, hormone overload!

Ladies just been reading what's now become a post natal thread and thinking that we are all amazing and everything we're doing/ trying to do for our little babies is enough. Flowers Brew Wine and Cake to all of us - Happy New Year!

DartmoorDoughnut · 04/01/2017 06:59

Hope you're all doing ok, mini Doughnut has been doing 2hourly wake ups which isn't fun but hoping he'll get back to 4hr stretches soon as I feel human on that much sleep! Still co-sleeping as its bloody freezing and think he needs my body heat.

Thisisbonkers · 04/01/2017 09:25

Argh! Can something not go right? I can't remember if I mentioned being readmitted with an infection of my section wound? So as if that wasn't bad enough, I'm now covered in a rash as I've reacted to the antibiotics. I just want to get well and recover! I really don't need the full experience!

Many congratulations to new arrivals!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 04/01/2017 09:47

Bonkers that is awful. Hope you recover soon and get to enjoy your little one.

Don't know if any of you remember me saying about having to move. Well we are moving on Monday. As the landlord wanted us out so quickly, we have managed to get him to pay for not only removal men but for them to pack it all up too. I'm not really happy with moving when DD will only just be 3weeks but at least I will be closer to friends again. It's just so stressful. It's bad enough I'm sleeping on the sofa every night as our room is so mouldy.

KitKat1985 · 04/01/2017 10:29

Bonkers that's rubbish. Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Love I hope the move goes well on Monday. Last thing you want to do with a 3 week old I'm sure.

Not much news here. Baby KitKat turned 8 weeks yesterday. We've got our 6-8 week GP check this afternoon, which I'm hoping is just a formality as she seems well and I've got no particular concerns.

Am thinking of starting a routine soon. Will probably start giving her some formula soon as well as I'm hoping she might sleep a bit longer with some formula before bed, and also I'm not managing to express much at the moment for various reasons and feeling a bit fed up with being sole feeder and on 24-hour boob call.

KitKat1985 · 04/01/2017 10:49

Oh, and I meant to ask, is anyone else feeling really down about their body image? I'm about 2 stone heavier still than I was pre-baby, and I'm still in maternity clothes. Sad Feeling quite down about it and on a New Year weight loss effort (but can't push it too hard whilst breastfeeding).

Popskipiekin · 04/01/2017 14:48

Oh kitkat you're only 8 weeks pp! Lots of people would say you should at least wait for your GP check (how did it go?) before starting exercise routine, and 12 weeks before anything too hardcore. And absolutely, with breastfeeding, you really have to eat well to sustain that. I understand though - I'm feeling far more flobby after this second baby. I can grab handfuls of my tummy! Ugh. Gently does it for the weight loss. It will come.

london we had similar birth dates and I'm still bleeding. It goes up and down. Think I bled 4 weeks+ with DS1. How are your iron levels? I was prescribed iron post partum and have been lax/cautious about taking it (causes constipation - in me at least) but I know I should face up to taking it, esp as still bleeding. It won't help the baby blues if you're anaemic. Worth a try?

Bigfam · 04/01/2017 14:49

Oh no bonkers you poor thing, really hope you're on the mend soon.

I'm completely with you kitkat the other day I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, I set a reminder on my phone's calender for new year to start 'planking' it was something fad to apparently get a lean stomach I heard about just before I got pregnant, haha, there's no chance I'll be attempting ANYTHING like that, maybe it can be next year's resolution...

😁

Awaitingalondonbaby · 04/01/2017 15:24

Sorry for those struggling with post-baby bodies, soreness and infections. It's hard when you just want to enjoy baby and feel so uncomfortable! I haven't dared go on the scales yet, I'm going to ignore it all for a few weeks and then reassess. My little one came on 31/12 so just getting to know one another at the moment.

My midwife has recommended we get a thermometer to put in the crib. I've seen the GroEgg but it's quite pricey, I wondered if anyone would recommend anything similar?

StubbleTurnips · 04/01/2017 17:57

Await we love our Gro egg, if you track them on camelcamelcamel for an Amazon deal you can get them for around a tenner.

I'm with you kitkat, unlike my pregnancy before where I lost weight through sickness for 36w - this one I mainly ate toast and butter. It's no surprise that I'm very hefty now, plus I gained a lot in the first 12 weeks (think it was nearly 2 stone). I've been told by the MW team not to do anything until at least 12w PP, and then only if I've gained bladder control / had my physiology referral.

OP posts:
kittyscot81 · 05/01/2017 00:06

kitkat i am definitely not loving the post baby body. Weirdly I'm lighter than I was pre pregnancy, but it's like I've lost muscle mass, my arms and legs look weak and skinny but I've the post preg belly. Hate it!! Deffo not planning to do anything other than very short walks until I feel better. Nothing serious for a few months anyway. I'm just telling myself it was worth it for the baby!

stripeyorangesocks71 · 05/01/2017 03:51

Hello everyone just checking in! Hope you're all well.

My wee man Gregor is a week old today I can't quite believe it! However he is very nocturnal it seems 😴 will this change? How can I help him adjust his body clock steadily? Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated :)

StubbleTurnips · 05/01/2017 07:07

stripey were a week old today too! We have no issues with nocturnalness - he's up every 2.5-3hrs for milk and then sleeps like a log. Although T2 is awake slightly more if he just snacks on milk rather than feeding properly.

It's the old 4th trimester theory I'm afraid, I do remember it getting better around 10-12w.

OP posts:
SolomanDaisy · 05/01/2017 09:06

stripey, my DD was nocturnal too! It gradually adjusted and she keeps human hours now. We didn't do anything special, I think it just happens as they adjust to being here.

NurseRosie · 05/01/2017 09:10

I know the woes about bony image. My tummy is all flabby and I'm worried my books will sag, they seem to be when they aren't full of milk.

Lo is struggling I think. I've been told up to a week between poos is normal but we are on day 4 without and he's getting really distressed. He is 7 and a half weeks. Struggling with wind so back on the infacol and given gripe water. I think I have a good diet but I'll try to get things moving that way. Just me and book today so hoping he'll settle.

Sending strength to everyone else who isn't having a breeze of a time. These first few months are tough aren't they but I feel we have developed a supportive chat here x x

KitKat1985 · 05/01/2017 17:57

Stripey I think the nocturnal waking is pretty normal (my midwife told me it's because in pregnancy they are used to being 'rocked to sleep' when you walk around in the daytime - no idea if that's true or not)! However I've been told trying to get babies out in natural light each day helps their body clock readjust. Something to do with melatonin production.

Any luck on the poo front Nurse?

Had 8 week GP check yesterday. I'm fine - got to have iron levels checked in a couple of weeks to see if I still need the iron tablets I was started on in pregnancy, and I've got a new contraceptive pill prescription if me and DH ever find 10 minutes undisturbed to have sex ever again . More worryingly GP said she could feel some clicking in baby KitKat's hips and wants her to have a hip scan to check for hip dysplasia. I'm not massively worried as she said it's mainly precautionary but obviously it's a bit concerning. Also no idea how they actually do a hip scan on a baby since obviously they are not going to just lie still. Does anyone know?

DartmoorDoughnut · 05/01/2017 18:03

Another not loving post baby body but too bloody hungry, tired and busy to do anything about it! Relying on sugar to get me through 2hourly wake ups which lead into a day with my utterly adorable but totally full on 2yr old DS who keeps deciding to not nap Confused so yeah diet will have to wait a bit Grin

Surf25 · 05/01/2017 18:09

Hi everyone, been keeping up reading but not posting much. Twins are doing well and gaining weight, nearly 4 weeks now and 38 weeks corrected. The other kids have been fantastic with them. Very aware of post pregnancy belly here too especially aware having had a section this time compared to previous deliveries. But it is all about giving it time! I am still bleeding too and did with other babies up until around 6 weeks. On Iron here too, as was during pregnancy. kitkat in my area all breech presenting babies get hip scans and as twin 2 was breech we are getting one in about 10 days for both twins so I can come back and tell you what it was like if that might be helpful? Nurse sorry to hear your lo is struggling with poos. Very common but so hard to see them like that.

StubbleTurnips · 05/01/2017 18:57

kit DD had the hip scan, they have a foam mould - like a sleepyhead but on a scale to lie them on their side. It holds them still while they ultrasound it. DD never slept anywhere but was straight out in the holder whilst it was done. It was very fast actually.
