Congrats Bumble!

I had 'just a graze' this time around, yet had a tear and stitches with my first baby, and I think the graze was more painful to be honest! I think a lot depends on exactly where down there gets injured.

Odd to think that after today some of our babies will be born in a different year!

KitKat1985 · 31/12/2016 10:07

Oh and I'm glad feeding is going better Chapman. x

duxb · 31/12/2016 16:18

Congratulations on all the recent arrivals. Bumble that sounds like a slog! Ruby is 3 weeks and a day old and we are getting there.

We are currently dealing with oral thrush and colic and a diminishing milk supply and baby that won't stay latched due to the oral thrush. So my milk went awful - watery and lacking. GP advised to pump and waste off for 24 hours and supplement with formula until the thrush and colic are resolved. The sheer lack of sleep for her and us wasn't doing us any favours (at evening/night she was going six or seven hours in a cycle of wailing, feeding, winding, nappy change and being generally inconsolable) and she said a fed baby that has had some sleep and is healthy is better than me forcing the exclusive breast fed mantra on myself. The milk seems to be improving and I've now got some cream for me as well as Ruby's oral treatment so fingers crossed we can be back to breast feeding shortly. Still debating whether formula in an evening will be better for her to settle - if it is, I won't be beating myself up about it.

Just wanted to share incase anyone else is struggling and feeling like a failure like I was a few days ago. The GP called me out on it straight away and said "stop feeling guilty, fed is best, sleep is best and the more sleep deprived and stressed you are, the more issues you will have with supply".

Hoping you all have very happy 2017s with these babies of ours - and for those still waiting, hope it isn't too much longer for you all. Flowers

NurseRosie · 31/12/2016 18:56

Sounds like you have a lovely GP Dubx, not like mine. And he was right, do what you feel is best for you and your baby. I sympathise with the thrush, we nearly went to formula but I was producing too much and would have been engorged, was advised not to express. I hope you figure out a plan that works for you.

We too are suffering with wind/colic. Had another day of feeding, screaming, sleeping and not bring able to put down. DH had arranged an evening at a friends so I hope when lo wakes he's more settled. Fingers crossed.

StubbleTurnips · 31/12/2016 20:40

Happy new year to all! Hope those still expecting get some rest and that these babies come soon.

All with new babies, hope they're good for you tonight!

I'm stuck under T2 - eating chocolates and trying to get in a comfy spot with this graze Hmm The most glam of New Years Grin Cake Star

Nurse if your BF is there something in your diet that makes baby more windy? I'm just wondering if maybe it's something in your milk which is what is upsetting baby? My Nephew was classed as a colic baby and turns out he had an intolerance to diary which was found out when she tried cutting diary from her diet and the colic disappeared.

Currently have a hiccuping baby rain and an upset toddler because upstairs neighbours are playing music really loud and swearing and the neighbour opposite is playing his drums. I get the feeling I'm in for a long night.

Still pumping every 3 hours but I'm losing my supply so I get a feeling it will be full formula soon. At least I know I have tried.

Happy new year to you all.

Bigfam · 01/01/2017 06:43

Happy new year everyone!
Baby Romy started her new year by sleeping through the night, she went from 11pm until 6am 😊 (admittedly she was in my bed again!)

I wonder if anyone had a new year's baby?

Dd3 has developed an allergy to something, no idea what, she keeps getting hives literally all over her, weirdly it starts on her face by her ears/on her cheeks, then quickly spreads everywhere else & then clears up for an hour, only to flare up on her face again followed by her body! It's bizarre Hmm

NurseRosie · 01/01/2017 09:35

Rainfall, you have done amazingly so far. Don't worry if you have to go onto formula, though I know it's disheartening if you want to bf/give breast milk. You are doing your best for baby and that's all that matters.

I hadn't thought that my diet might be exacerbating baby's wind. Hmm, I'll have a look at what I'm eating.

Bigfam that's amazing. Congrats on the full night sleep. Hope dd is ok and the hives disappear. Is she putting something on her face or her face having contact with any substance before anywhere else? It dies sound like a tough one to figure out.

Happy new year everyone x

SolomanDaisy · 01/01/2017 11:00

My DD also had a good night's sleep, from 12:30 to 7:30! She's done it before in the bed, but this is the first time in the next 2 me. She was awake at midnight and we watched the fireworks through the living room window and the neighbours came over to say hello to her through the window.

rainfall, you've done so well to keep up expressing this long. I found it really hard and I didn't have to express more than three times a day (I have oversupply). You should be proud to have managed it this long rather than concerned about switching to formula.

Bigfam · 01/01/2017 22:09

I really hate my health visitor, I've had problems with her in the past, but to name a couple, she insisted that when dd2 was 2.5 and had just started nursery that she need to see a SALT, I said she didn't, nursery said they had no concerns etc, but she pushed & pushed until a SALT went and observed her at nursery, they confirmed what we had, she was absolutely fine with her speech and actually advanced.
Another example, when I was pregnant with Dd3 I had really bad morning sickness, she turned up unannounced to say that she couldn't make an appointment the following day but wanted to see me then and there, I was in bed and dp told her so, but she literally wouldn't leave until she witnessed me in bed...
Now today I've just been looking through the baby's red book & I've noticed that in the notes for 'first visit by hv team' in the section where it says "any concerns about the baby's health or behaviour" she's written "No. But mum declined baby to be weighed + measured today" I did-fucking-not decline, she could clearly see that the midwife had been and weighed the baby the day before and she was back up to her birth weight, Romy was asleep and comfortable and there was no point in waking her for the sake of weighing her less than 24 hours after her last weigh in, then she pointed out the little red marks she's got on her eyes and forehead (which is something all my babies have had that's faded over time) and told me I need to make a note of them with the gp because (& I quote) 'people could take them the wrong way and next thing you know social services will be at your door' ShockHmm

Sorry for the massive rant, I just can't stand the woman!!!

Aw, I love the teddy outfit! Congratulations!

It's strange seeing so many newborn photos where the baby is quite a bit bigger than my ten week old!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 01/01/2017 22:57

Solomon how is your little one doing?

Bigfam that's awful I would make a complaint. She sounds like she is in the wrong job.

Thank you to those that have offered me advice, help and support you are of course right I need to be proud of what I have achieved and as long as she is getting feed then it should not matter how.

Bigfam · 02/01/2017 02:26

Gorgeous hannah congratulations.

10 weeks already Soloman, I can't believe how quickly the time goes, or how quickly they grow. I was only saying yesterday that when Romy first went in her nest she was tiny & it swamped her, now she's nearly as big as the bloody thing!

Glad you're feeling a bit more optimistic about the whole feeding thing rain whatever happens you're still a great mummy 🌟

SolomanDaisy · 02/01/2017 11:02

DD is ok, she's gained weight well but hasn't grown much lengthwise. It's weird, she looks like a normal chubby baby now, but really tiny (below 0.3 centile for length). She's still in tiny baby clothes. Not sure if there's a problem or she's just going to be very short. We have a consultant appointment tomorrow. She's meeting milestones though, cooing, smiling, good head control.

kittyscot81 · 02/01/2017 13:54

Can I please ask how you ladies are feeling recovery wise? I had spd and a forcep delivery. Currently 8 days post birth and I still feel awful, my back and hips are stiff, my legs are weak and I feel quite dizzy when I move around. I'm loving caring for the baby but I feel like I can't do as much as I want, hubby is doing all the night time nappy changes because I'm so stiff by the end of the day. Really hoping this will get better soon.

StubbleTurnips · 02/01/2017 16:40

kitty I'm 4 days in and still have no bladder control, my pelvis is also shot. Went out today - my milk is coming in so had to come home as a fever started about lunch time and it's knocked me out since. Am managing pain with Ibrufen and paracetamol but it's not stopping it all tbh.

I can just about look after T2 but I can't move fast, hence bladder control being an issue.

kittyscot81 · 02/01/2017 17:40

Stubble, I know, that whole area just feels really weird and numb/heavy. No one I know really spoke about what it was like afterwards so I have no idea what is normal and what to expect! I've had limited mobility for so long, just impatient to get back to being able to walk I guess!! Hope u feel better soon, the milk sweats are horrible! I had to sleep on a bath towel the other night!

StubbleTurnips · 02/01/2017 18:08

Try to rest up kitty it doesn't get any easier as they get older. I'm enjoying the 'stick under a newborn' excuse, DH is like this Hmm

I'm going to try Epsom salts in the bath tonight, lots recommend it online - will let you know if it does anything though.

OP posts:
NurseRosie · 02/01/2017 18:30

Kitty, it sounds like you need to rest. As for dizziness, did you bleed a lot, could you be anaemic? I felt sore for a few weeks I'm afraid. If hubby us happy to do the nappy changes, I would let him until you feel better.

Soloman, glad baby is gaining weight well. I bet she'd a little cutie when she's cooing. My lo is cooing and getting the odd smile now which is nice.

Bigfam · 02/01/2017 19:44

4 and a bit weeks already! Can't believe it 😘

My baby was born a week tomorrow and recovery wise in doing ok. Pelvic floor surprisingly good and aches and pains subsiding.

Feeling very low though - think I have a touch of the baby blues.

Hubby being very supportive and hopefully with a bit of sleep it will subside.

StubbleTurnips · 03/01/2017 04:14

Ah Tiny baby blues entirely normal, don't be afraid to ask for help if it's prolonged and be kind to yourself Brew

The Epsom salt bath did ease my poor old vagine a bit last night. Still hurting but I got come relief for about 25mins - which felt like a miracle.

Minispringroll · 03/01/2017 11:32

We've made it through the holidays and the family visits. Very belated announcement: BabySpringroll was born on 24th December, weighing 8lb12. He really was not happy at being evicted. Grin

I went in at 40+12 to be induced and contractions started at about 1.30am on 24th. Luckily, at about 2pm that day, the pessary came out by accident and the midwife checked my cervix (because I really didn't want another one to be put in). Surprisingly, I was 6cm by then and they took me off to the delivery suite. Hello, Gas and Air. Hello, Epidural...How lovely to meet you both. Grin Everything went fine from then on until the last few minutes when he got stuck and they got worried about his heartrate dropping. He was eventually delivered by ventouse (?) and with the help of an episiotomy.

So far, we've been getting on ok. Pain is mostly gone, but I find the lack of bladder control very distressing. Blush I have a cold and keep wetting myself when I cough. Breastfeeding seems to be alright, although it still hurts like hell even when I'm using nipple shields. He's a really hungry baby, though, and already back to his birth weight. He doesn't sleep at night, though, and means that I'm shattered throughout the day. He will sleep when he's co-sleeping with me but isn't happy to go in the next2me. During the day, he naps happily in the sleepyhead. Might have to keep him awake more during the day. Hmm
He does have quite dry skin and some reddish blotches. Is that normal?

kittyscot81 · 03/01/2017 13:55

mini your labour sounds very much like mine. Way overdue and induced. I got the pessary which did nothing, then the gel which got my contractions going really fast and strong. I ended up needing forceps because my baby was side on and stuck! His hands and feet are quite flaky, the midwife said it was because he was in the amniotic fluid for so long with less of the protective coating to keep his skin soft. I've been putting a little coconut oil on his hands under scratch mits.
