Thank you Savage very useful x
Agree with most but caution with bumbo seat. From a physiotherapists point of view, I would only use this from an age that the baby can sit with a straight back already. Otherwise they can be taking away from the time a baby should spend on their tummy. That time is crucial for babies to develop strength in their back extension muscles. Babies who have sat in the bumbo seat for too long have been seen sitting with a very round back which is encouraged inside the seat as their pelvis is tilted backwards.
All nice in theory of course and I'm sure it won't be a blessing doing what I do and knowing what I know when I have my own baby! Eek! Wink

Yes the nights are getting shorter with baby moving around...
Love the reusable nappies tip! Thank you Savage!

Might get some little Lambs savage. Used bamboozles with DS which were good but they're looking a bit tatty now.

yellowismyfavourite · 19/12/2016 09:16

Thanks for the link savage. Good luck to everyone with scans this week...

Sipperskipper · 19/12/2016 10:07

How are you feeling now Raspberry?

savagehk · 19/12/2016 10:09

Agreed re Bumbos - shouldn't be in them for long (same applies for most things, including our other favourite thing, the Jumperoo). We used our Bumbo mainly in the kitchen (completely doing what you shouldn't do, putting it on a countertop...) but our kitchen is tiny and he was never out of arms length or made any inclination to attempt to climb out or anything. It meant he could see what I was doing while cooking (this was from about 5 months, but he had head control and all that surprisingly early, think because he had such a large head - and babywearing is supposed to help too). Wasn't enough space for anything else in the kitchen for him to sit on or lie on.

It's also fantastic for getting a poo out :D

Rabbitykins55 · 19/12/2016 10:19

Bright me too! Scan this afternoon and I've been awake since 4am worrying that I'll be able to tell what it is when I really don't want to know! Blush I really hope they don't give anything away!

Badgerbird · 19/12/2016 10:27

Oooh thanks for list jw and brilliant list savage. I'll check out the lambs website as was thinking about using reusables (prob after first few weeks of exhaustion and overwhelm or I could be mad and making things a lot harder for myself, I don't know yet!?!)

Good luck with scan bright, how exciting! Smile

I've got midwife appointment today and get to hear heartbeat again, can't wait! Been getting a few cramps last few days but reckon it's ligament/growing pains etc....

RasperryInAMelon · 19/12/2016 10:34

Skipper still a bit achey but it's moving into my lower back rather than where it started at the front - I'm hoping it's just the norm. I guess I'm more worrying because I haven't had any ligament paid for a good few weeks now.

savagehk · 19/12/2016 10:58

I couldn't see any boy bits at my scan, so that either means they don't give away easily or it's a girl :) With my 20w scan last pregnancy we only got to see baby right at the start, then she turned the screen away to do her checks, then put the screen back to show us the baby at the end again, so it would have been easy to hide gender if needed. This time the sonographer talked me through all the checks as she was doing them so I got to see everything on screen... although I think it's still often an art to tell what you are seeing, so not seeing boy bits probably doesn't mean girl...

Badger we used reusables from when we got home, putting washing in the machine and hanging it up was one of the easier household chores :) You'll also have OH on paternity leave to help out right at the start?

Sipperskipper · 19/12/2016 11:20

Its all so worrying isnt it raspberry - always something to keep us on our toes! Maybe give mw a call to put your mind at rest?

Brightsmoke · 19/12/2016 12:50

My appointment was midday Rabbity, but baby isn't lieing in a good position so I was sent for a walk. Just waiting to go back in, I'm so hungry!! lol everything seems ok, but has it's hands in front of its face so I can't see it lol

FoxMulder · 19/12/2016 12:53

Birth to potty nappies are usually too big on a newborn, so we only started using them when he was a little bigger.

EsmesBees · 19/12/2016 13:41

I reckon it's really hard for a lay person to spot the gender. We had loads of extra scans last time and DH reckoned himself a bit of an expert and declared he had definitely seen boy bits. Turned out when she was born he didn't have a clue!

savagehk · 19/12/2016 13:58

Yeah Esme think you're right - unless baby is sitting legs akimbo and you can see all the boy bits (even then I think the testes aren't always descended). I remember the sonographer showing me where the kidneys were - tiny black spec - made me think if that's a kidney, I've got no chance of spotting any bits :)

Fox yes, indeed, that's part of the reason we went for fitteds - seems a waste to buy two sets of nappies, but they were great, no leaks. I think with a birth-to-potty sometimes the fit is a bit worse because of the compromise.

McBaby · 19/12/2016 14:14

20 week scan all good very relieved. It's a very wiggly active baby and was breech, transverse and head down all in space 15 mins!!

Rabbitykins55 · 19/12/2016 14:32

Glad all is going well for those that had scans so far today! I'm on my way now! Very nervous!

lalaland1985 · 19/12/2016 14:41

Congratulations on the scans! Lovely news! I've just been sitting at work looking at the calendar to see when would be best to start maternity leave Grin

Sipperskipper · 19/12/2016 15:29

Great news on good scans everyone, relieved and happy for you all. I've got mine tomorrow at 11.30.

MrsJW15 · 19/12/2016 15:55

Good news on scans and good luck Rabbity. Sipper we are 2pm tomorrow, it's going to be such a long day!

RasperryInAMelon · 19/12/2016 16:00

Lala I've been doing the same... counting down the days after my holiday in March now! Grin

Brightsmoke · 19/12/2016 16:33

Everything seems fine for my scan, but baby has a big fat belly! Sonographer wasn't worried, but I don't know what the 'normal' size should be, but it was big enough to be off the scale! Everything else is pretty much bang on, maybe I need to lay off the pies 😳. Husband got the sonographer to print off an awful picture of the baby with its eyeball on show, it's horrific but he's happy. Managed to stay team yellow which I'm very pleased about.

Glad yours went well McBaby.

RasperryInAMelon · 19/12/2016 16:38

Amazing news Bright!

I'm getting worried about how big baby will be when we go for ours on Jan 5th! I've been tucking into all sorts of crap over the last two weeks, no appetite for a proper meal, but hand me a bag of crisps or two and I'm all yours Blush

Adventuregame · 19/12/2016 16:43

Lala Raspberry I've been doing exactly the same. I suddenly had a panic that I was being really lazy to think of leaving so early but I text my friend for her advice and she said she definitely wouldn't have wanted to do my commute after 30 weeks so now I feel a bit better. I've got 3 weeks holiday to take first so actual mat leave will start at 33 weeks. Plus I have the medical condition which means I need to be well rested so I think I've re convinced myself that leaving early is wise !

Lovely to hear of all the scans today! I'm glad it's hard to tell the gender - I really don't want to know! We're first thing tomorrow so not long to wait after what I suspect will be a restless night. Gave in today and ordered myself a dreamgenii as keep waking up on my back.

Spent some time with my mum friends today and their little ones are so sweet - made me excited about what's to come!

Rabbitykins55 · 19/12/2016 17:21

All good from my scan. Was asked if we wanted to know and was told to look away when she got to that bit. None of the photos she showed us gave anything away!
